Two reasons I went here 1. It is on the first floor of my office building 2. It is highly rated on yelp There is a serpentine queue here right from 11.30. I ordered the Fusion salad it set me back by 12$. Now that is what a lunch in the city usually costs. But most of the places in the city serve good food. This salad was just horrible. I dunno. I've eaten a few times at the "other" Mixt Greens on Sansome and it was great. I got the Cowboy Salad there--yum. I tried this location yesterday and thought I'd mix it up with a Maui Salad--seared ahi and such. It was pretty awful. The ahi was decent, but the salad, well, sucked. You know the hard pale heart of a head of lettuce? well, it was nothin' but those. A little bitter and dry and unappetizing. The dressing left something to be desired too. And of course the lines were L O N G (about 20 mins) and the salad cost $11. I'll put up with that for a great salad, but this place just made me go, "hmmmph." read more

Why do I eat salad? Because I hate to exercise and I've convinced myself that by eating greens for lunch, instead of a burger, I'm being really healthy and the weight will fall off. You can only eat spinach or lettuce in so many ways... so it was a welcome treat to find a place that makes salad interesting. First of all, the look of this place is amazing. Not so much the building itself, but the layout of the long counter filled with anything and everything you can think of to go in your salad. OK. I have been having good experiences at Mixt Greens lately. They've got a customizable calorie counting webpage, and are eco-friendly and fairly fast moving service, considering the lunchtime crush. A bit pricey but worth it for a once-a-week treat. About an hour ago I was halfway through my delicious salad (mixt greens, garlic croutons, black beans, bacon and avocado) when I saw something crawling on the leaves of my salad. It was a big ole beetle. With antennae and flailing pale green legs. I picked him up with my fork and put him into the (eco friendly) compost bin in my office. So the good thing is that they clearly take this organic no pesticides thing seriously. The bad thing is that I probably won't be back. And yes, I finished the salad anyway. read more

I'm starving, even though I just finished a Maui salad from Mixt Greens. I think the ingredients would probably fill about an 8 oz. cup, and then rest was butter lettuce that wasn't even torn apart - just in leaf size pieces, which makes it kind of hard to eat. They've got great dressings, and a variety of toppings, and I love that I can control what I want to put into my salad, while keeping the nutrition in mind. I really do like that the salads fill me up (whaaaat a salad can fill you up?!). Yes. I guess it really depends on what you put in your salad, but I always find myself feeling satisfied after eating a Mixt Greens salad. The restaurant is nice and clean and very modern, but for the amount of people coming in and out of the place for lunchtime, there is not much seating available. But I guess it makes sense since I assume a lot people bring their salad back to work. The lines can be very long, but in the off-peak times, there is a very short wait. The workers work really quickly to build your salad/sandwich, so I don't mind the wait as the line moves very quickly. I usually choose the 'design your own salad' option. I typically get arugula and mixt greens, with avocado, egg, goat cheese, pickled onions, tomatoes and sometimes chicken with cilantro lime vinaigrette. I honestly can't really taste the cilantro in the vinaigrette but it's still a pretty good dressing. For a 11-13 dollar salad, I hoped they would add more toppings. But all the ingredients here are fresh and never wilted. What can I say? The salads are solid, so I can't really complain. Taking into consideration the location of Mixt Greens (Financial District) and comparing the prices of the other salad spots in the area that charge you per topping, I guess the prices are reasonable (you can up to five specialty ingredients and a dressing). Although it's a bit to pay for, I'm not sure you can find a place with cheaper salads I will continue to come here for my salads. Mixt Greens is definitely a solid salad spot. read more

This place is pretty much terrible. I've really tried to go here a few times expecting different results, but it is consistently just bad. If you are going during lunch time (11am-2pm) plan to wait in line anywhere from 10-30 minutes (no joke my last wait was 25 mins). While you are waiting in line, plan to stand next to a bunch of D-bags with sweater vests or fancyschmance ugly purses (you might lose your appetite at this point). By the time this is done, you can expect to pay twice as much as you would if you would just go next door to the local salad bar. The salads are OK but nothing to die for. Two stars because this place might be OK if you ordered in for a meeting and did not have to visit the location. It seems there's always about 2-3 guys preparing to go orders so I will be optimistic and hope that that portion of their business is decent. read more

Let me start by saying that I really do love mixt greens and I frequent this location often for lunch. They ran a deal at the end of the year; if you purchased five salads by the end of 2016 you could earn 50% off your first five salads of 2017. Sadly, the three times I went to redeem my 50% off deal they were out of 50% of the ingredients - I feel cheated! Mixt Greens biggest fault is their utter lack of planning and preparedness... they are out of 50% of their special salad ingredients before lunch is even half way over. Today I went at 1 p.m. to order the Parker knowing that they tend to run out of some of the ingredients later in the afternoon. I waited in a long line only to make it to the front to discover they were out of roasted brussel sprouts and squash - THE ITEMS THAT MAKE THE SALAD SPECIAL. There is never a way to tell what ingredients they are out of until it's your turn in line. They don't update the menu screen or tell you when you start your order, it's only once they realize half the ingredients are gone that you are informed; then you stand there stumped as to what to substitute for the missing ingredients and you hold up the line of other customers who are sure to be just as disappointed as you are that the salad they came here to specifically order can't be made. I feel really bad for the employees, they are always very apologetic and try to be as accommodating as they can. You can tell they are frustrated too. This is the third time this has happened to me in two weeks - GET IT TOGETHER MIXT GREENS. How hard can it be to make enough ingredients to prepare the salads you advertise? If you are always running out of certain ingredients it should be apparent you need to make more.... ludicrous! Icing on the cake, I got back to my office and noticed I wasn't give any salad dressing (I always get my dressing on the side). Honest mistake after being flustered about subbing half the ingredients for my salad, but damn... three strikes and you're out. read more

Mixt Greens has the most fraudulent frequent-customer program and atrocious customer experience at the cash register. They promise you 1 FREE salad after you buy 10 salads there. Today, I rudely found out that in fact the free salad is NOT FREE. After presenting my frequent lunch card, I was told that I owed additional dollars, and the check out clerk eventually and condescendingly explained that it's only free up to $9. This is a classic CON game called "bait and switch" To be precise, the average price of salads at Mixt Greens is $11.03. So this program was designed to be malicious and fraudulent. So Mixt Greens, you will lose my business forever and you have just created a Net Detractor. Adios! read more

I usually LOVE Mixt Greens.... Except not when they try and shred my intestines by nonchalantly ignoring a food allergen. I have a severe gluten intolerance, it's not Celiacs', but its close...I walked in to Mixt Greens and made my order. It was loud as usual, and I asked for the Gluten Free Croutons. The chef threw a might hand full of croutons into the bowl, where upon, as I have to, I reiterated, "are those were 'Gluten Free'" the chef next to him turned and responded that they were OUT of GF croutons. There was an uncomfortable silence. I assumed that the Chef was going to remake the salad. I assumed it was being remade (as it was literally just greens dressing and the croutons) and I turned around to gawk at the cutest Rhodesian Ridgeback I have seen in a while. The chef finished mixing up the salad and handed it to me, and I paid and left. While walking back to work I noticed a little monster glaring at me from inside the greens... It was a tiny fragment of a Crouton. I realized that the Chef had not re-made the salad, but had just PICKED OUT THE BIGGEST PIECES. When a known allergen has infiltrated the food item you are preparing it has been contaminated and is unfit to serve to the customer. The way the salads are mixed all of the little crumbs from the croutons would now be coating the salad. I was basically served poison. If I am going to fuck my gut up, I will do it on my terms - those being fried chicken and biscuits with all sorts of various and exotic gravies .... So I was out 15$.... My co -worker told me to call up and speak to the manager, and I did. I spoke to Matt - he was very apologetic and offered to comp me a Salad... but I wasn't going to go back as I couldn't trust the food prep procedures. He did apologise profusely, and stated that they would have a talk with the staff after the shift. It did make me feel better. But not enough to go back. He's the only reason I'm giving them 2 stars. I've ordered online twice from here, and both times they've messed up on the salad. They forgot a different ingredient every time. For a $15 salad I would hope I get all my ingredients. Lunch is short for me, so I have to run over grab it and get back to the office quickly. Sucks to get back all the way to the office only to see that part of my salad ingredients are missing. The salads off the menu didn't seem particularly inspired or compelling, so I ended up making my own salad (with 2 specialty items and 2 staples). I got the edamame, herb roasted potatoes, marinated tofu and avocado. Maybe I didn't get the right things, but either way the lettuce-to-stuff ratio wasn't so good (too much lettuce/too little stuff). They were super stingy with the avocado (or maybe it got lost in all that lettuce) and the tofu and the potatoes were both bland. My friend commented that she felt like she was eating rabbit food. Going here definitely made me miss Chop't (in NYC) where I was regularly suckered into purchasing a $10+ salad. Even the pre-packaged salads from Trader Joe's are more inventive and tasty than the salad I got at Mixt! Positives: The line was long but it moved fairly quickly and it was nice to sit outside in the sun with my free cucumber water. It is also nice to know the ingredients are organic and locally sourced. The salads at both Cafe Venue and Lightening Foods are cheaper and tastier. Even if you upgrade your lettuce at Cafe Venue to organic baby spring mix (+ $1), you're still paying much less than at Mixt. read more

I often frequent this place for lunch because it's right next to my work. However, overtime the service and food has definitely gone down. One time, one of the guys was unclogging a dressing bottle and squirted dressing all over me! I'm sorry, but you just don't point bottles towards peoples' face. All he did was give me a quick apology and a towel to wipe myself off. I told the cashier/manager guy what happened and he just said sorry and shrugged it off. Ugh! Also, if I'm going to be paying over $10 for a salad, it better be good! I ordered a Caesar Salad today and the croutons were stale and only had 3 measly pieces of anchovy. On other days, the proportions of the ingredients are just thrown together...a few pieces of tofu and a ton of green papaya. On the upside, if you're lucky, the salads can be pretty good. But that depends entirely on if you get a good salad preparer and that the ingredient selection that day is fresh. If I had a choice, I'd definitely favor the other Mixt Green locations. read more

How can you not love Mixt Greens? The concept is smart (don't lie, we all wish we though of it), and you CAN get a hearty salad for under $10, contrary to popular belief. I usually stick to hearts of palm and edamame for my basic add-ons and then goat cheese and tomatoes for my specialty toppings, and low fat balsamic vinaigrette (be prepared to tell them since they'll ask for it first). Sure, the line is long, but as long as YOU don't stumble on your menu choices, the line process isn't too painful. When I interned at a PR agency in Jackson Square, this particular Mixt Greens & nearby NakedLunchSF were my lunchtime "splurges". I used to like this place. Until the day that I ordered my ten dollar salad and sat down to eat it outside. I was a few bites into it, engaged in a great conversation with my roommate, when poking around with my fork, I happened upon a twitching moth soaked in vinaigrette at the bottom of my bowl. A moth. I was immediately reminded of the big moth in the Silence of the Lambs (A Tabacco Hornworm), but on further reflection I think it was a Bilobed Looper. (I've been thinking about moths ever since the incident). I'm usually not picky about my food. I've found long hairs in food before and not made a big stink, but the moth was too much for me. I had lost my appetite, and I just wanted my money back. I took my salad back up to the counter and explained it. I didn't get an apology, or anything like that. I am so conflicted as to how many stars to give this place. Being an avid Pluto's fan (please see previous review) I'm all about a place that serves fresh, make it yourself, filling salads. Mixt Greens has amazing options including ahi tuna, mango, bleu cheese, marinated steak.....and its all incredibly fresh. HOWEVER, if all i get is a whole bunch of lettuce with a *sprinkle* of the toppings I asked for and get charged $11 for it.....i start questioning my lunchtime decision. These stars go only towards the *idea* of what this place could offer. Being stingy with the food and then STILL overcharging is like being a not-so-attractive person and then also being a big jerk-off.....you gotta have SOME redeeming qualities to keep people coming back for more. read more

The pros of Mixt Greens (high quality, fresh, organic salads) used to outweigh the cons (overpricing, ridiculously long lines, mediocre service). However, today I ordered a Seasonal Vine salad with pork (almost a $15 salad) and discovered a thumb-sized and a nickel-sized glob of DIRT at the bottom of the mixed greens... gross! Needless to say, this experience has made me lose all confidence in (and appetite for) Mixt Greens. Addendum on 5/23/11: Co-worker found a 3-inch piece of plastic in her "fresh" salad. Not a good track record. Addendum on 8/24/11: Found a big, live bug in my salad (it hopped onto my fork). I went back and they replaced my salad promptly and professionally. read more

I go to Mixt Greens whenever I want to treat myself to a yummy and healthy lunch. It is a bit more expensive than I would normally spend on lunch, but worth it for all the great, organic ingredients. I usually get the Dagwood salad, which is basically a grilled veggie salad, with a couple modifications. The line moves way quicker than you'd expect, mostly because of the phenomenal skillz of the friendly staff. Everyone there has been supernice, especially the awesome people at the cash-registers. The other main plus for me is that there always seems to be excellent people-watching at Mixt Greens, and that happens to be one of my favorite pastimes. The only real negative is the prices, but someday I will splurge that extra $4 and get the coriander-encrusted seared ahi tuna. mmmmm read more

I very rarely change my opinion on businesses and restaurants but in the case of Mixt Greens, I've been pleasantly surprised and have progressively felt like my previous rating was a bit harsh. Yes, it's a bit overpriced but what isn't in the financial district? If we're willing to spend ten bucks on a burrito at Tlaloc or ten bucks on a burger and fries at Bistro Burger, why not spend that on a very fresh and delicious salad that's healthy and easy to acquire. So yes, I'm proud to say Mixt Greens is in my building and my insane laziness coupled with a newfound realization to perhaps include SOME veggies in my life have led to my transformation into a frequenter at this location. I highly recommend ordering the make your own salad over the pre-fix salads - it's $10 and you can include pretty much anything your unique taste buds desire. I usually get half spinach, half butter lettuce with goat cheese, caesar dressing, marinated tofu to quench my tofu obsession, avocados and corn. Lunch break at 12 here? Be prepared to wait in a line out the door. I have never waited so long in line for lunch. With gorgeous weather outside, the line only gets longer. Besides the wait, their salads are delicious and it won't make you feel guilty for finishing the whole thing afterwards, although you might get hungry in a few hours after consumption. Anyways, I love how you can choose how heavy you want your dressing - light, medium, or heavy. They let you substitute items without charging you extra for it now (before you said no ____ and instead add ____, they would charge you for the extra ___). The cashiers are quite on it with making sure you don't get away without paying for "extra" items. I guess this is how they managed to open up 3 stores in the FiDi in only a few years when most restaurants take 3 years to even start making a profit. read more

I've walked by this place a couple times prior to today and was scared off by the huge line of hungry FiDI employees. Much like any good eatery in a highly saturated business neighborhood, the place gets packed. It's all about knowing the secrets. If you want to get in and out in less than 10 minutes and have someone HOOK. IT. UP. on the fixings, go after 1:30. 2:00 if your stomach can hang. I can't promise that I'd worship this place if I had to wait in line for 30 very hungry minutes and someone skimped me on the goodness, but I'm okay with that. I just hope my computer is, too. When the guy at the register (and not even the one charging your credit card) says: "See you next Monday, Rebecca" (and it's Friday). A girl starts to wonder. Do I really eat here that much? And how the hell does he know my name? And how many names has this guy committed to memory after reading their credit cards? Besides being called out for my love of salad and good veggies, I do go here several times a week to craft my own creation. The price tag can easily get out of control and I've learned to keep to the 4 staples and 1 specialty included with the design your own salad. This is the only way I can keep myself in check and walk out of the store with a salad under $10. I love this place for lunch. It's healthy organic salad & is delicious. My favorite salad is the fusion (w/ahi on top) YUM. The atmosphere is condusive to catching up w/friends over lunch, especially if it is nice outside although they have indoor seating as well. Very random but I noticed they also got top ratings on this new site I found that shows the ratings restaurants get for cleanliness (cleanscores.com). My constructive feedback is that you want to ask them to go easy on the dressing for most salads, if your not careful you have an expensive organic salad soup w/the dressing. Also, the punch cards are for a smaller value than any salad I've ever managed to walk out with so my "free" salad after 10 punches isn't really free, have to pay the difference despite it being the same price as all my other salads... The cookies are YUMMY, I am a fan of the oatmeal raisin, very well spiced. Highly recommend you try the half-homemade lemonade half-homeade green tea combo if you have some extra $ to spare after your salad & are thirsty on a hot fall day in downtown SF. Everyone there is really friendly, especially the folks at the registers (very speedy too). Overall really do like this place A LOT. Props to the compostable containers & overall eco friendly cafe as well. Love the outdoor seating too. read more

Mixt salads are pretty darn delicious, but a star is deducted for a) the lines that resemble an airport security checkpoint, and b) the inconsistency where sometimes I get a full container, and other times my lettuce droops to about 40% full. Can't you see when the box isn't full? Throw some more stuff on there! I've often tried to establish relationships with the various salad tossers (yeah, I said it) in order to avoid the half-salad shortchanging... but to no avail. $12-13 is steep for a salad, but I can only take so many burgers, cheap burritos, and fried chinese food before I crave vegetables and seared ahi from Mixt. read more

My office regularly orders from other Mixt Greens location for lunch and we have never had a problem. But on Tuesday we ordered from this location and bad does not even begin to describe it. We put in our order for noon, and went to go pick it up arriving at 12:05. Our order wasn't ready so we waited around for 5-10 minutes (enough time for me to play one game of sudoku on expert level so I know it had to have been at least 7 or 8). Good thing we weren't in a hurry! They gave us the wrong drinks and we had to sort that out ourselves - the guy at the register was too busy ringing people up to help us. When we got back to the office, everyone started noticing problems with their salad. And before you ask, our names were clearly written on the salads, so we definitely were given the correct bag. One person was missing dressing, 2 people had the wrong dressing, about 3 people were missing bread, my salad was missing the spicy peanuts, another person said their salad was missing tomatoes, someone else said theirs had egg bits and shouldn't, etc.. the list goes on. I called Mixt Greens to let them know that our orders were really messed up and the guy sounded like he was sorry and offered to give me a credit. He confirmed my email address and said it would be about an hour or 2. It's been well over 24 hours and still nothing. It's one thing to make a mistake, it's another thing not to fix it. read more

**Updating my review as the VP of Customer Experience got in touch within 24 hours of my post** Got food poisoning here right before the Thanksgiving holiday. Not a huge deal - I realize these things happen and I eat at mixt 3x a week with no problems - but Mixt's response raised some questions. I let them know via email to make sure they double checked their romaine given the recent recalls to prevent anyone from getting as violently ill as I did. Many days later I got a pretty sketchy reply. 1. They claimed I was the first to make a food poisoning claim and expressed their sympathies that my colleague and I fell ill...but I ate alone that day and made no mention of a sick colleague in my note. Kind of screams copy and pasting error. 2. They wrote about 3 paragraphs explaining that Mixt was an unlikely source of my illness bc food poisoning often takes "weeks" to manifest. Sorry but we ALL know that is not true haha. Would have been nice if they had at least refunded me for the salad or offered me a free salad during my next visit, but didn't get anything besides the "not us!" ema. Mixt Greens has some very unique, yet tasty salads and sandwiches. I particularly enjoy the salads with the various nuts (almonds, peanuts, etc.) and fruits (strawberries, rasberries, etc.) mixed in with their greens and tuna salads. I'd recommend trying their meatloaf sandwich, b/c it's the best meatloaf I've ever had imho (in my humble opinion). The location is awesome, b/c you can sit outside and enjoy the great weather, do some people-watching, and just relax. Fair warning though, my co-worker did complain once that he had tree sap drip on him and his lady when they were enjoying their meal outside, so perhaps you shouldn't sit directly by the trees? The only downer here is the ridiculous price, b/c it's going to cost you $10+ for a meal here, and these aren't magical salads. They are good, but are they really that good?.. hmm.. not so in my case. Perhaps you're really paying for the atmosphere. read more

Mixt Greens next to my office = happy inner health freak! It's clearly a popular lunch spot - sometimes the line is way out the door and snaking around the corner, but it goes by relatively quickly. The containers the salads are put in are deceiving - the salads are actually pretty large, which you would hope for considering you're paying around $12-$15 for a salad. On the pricier side, but still one of my most frequented lunch spots! I was totally prepared to hate this place before ever setting foot inside based solely on a) the pretentious misspelling of the word "mixed" and their "eco-gourmet" subheading, b) the fact that it's a chain and there's another branch located a mere one block away and c) the exorbitant $12 price tag on their salads. I only agreed to go because my better-paid coworker offered to expense it to the office (gotta love corporate life!). Convinced this would be my first and last visit to Mixt Greens, I went for the most expensive item on the menu: "The Bachelor", a salad consisting of grilled prime flat iron steak, herb roasted potatoes, carmelized onions, blue cheese, and cherry tomatoes on a bed of red leaf lettuce with balsamic vinaigrette. I tailored it to suit my more refined palette, substituting butternut squash for potatoes and goat cheese for blue ("The Bachelorette," anyone?). The only disappointment was that I had to admit my premature judgment was entirely misguided. The ingredients were so fresh and delicious they actually tasted "eco-gourmet" (whatever that means) and the steak was perfectly tender - I might even go so far as to say it was worth the $12 my boss paid for it. Thanks to Mixt Greens, an important lesson was learned today. As my friend Sam R. said when I reported my experience back to her, "I guess you can't judge a bougie book by its expensive-looking cover." I've been ordering salads here for months and haven't had any issues. I used to order the mixt greens as main green but after a few orders that had old slimy lettuce, I switched to the butter lettuce and romaine hearts combo. Today, I decided to order a combo of butter lettuce and mixt greens and halfway through the salad there was a caterpillar like insect (about a half inch long) dead resting on a few greens I was about to munch on. More like 3.5+ stars. They are not that consistent for me to give 5, but when they get it right, it is really good. UPDATE: Nov 2010: 2 stars. This place has the most perfect bacon ever. Perfectly cooked perfectly crispy bacon that's obviously done in the oven. But I'm not going there in rush hour to spend 30 minutes in line. So I wait until almost two. But they never put up a sign to indicate that their bacon is out, and almost 50% of the time I go, they are out. No apologies from staff, and I almost always tell them to put it up on their "out of stock" board. To the Asian guy with glasses who usually works on the far right of the counter (from an Asian guy with glasses): Please slow down with the salad dressing. You make a good salad, but you always, always put too much dressing. No matter what I say, "Easy on the dressing," "Light dressing," Whisper of dressing," my salad is always overdressed. This is not just me talking. You are known as the guy who overdresses salads. Seriously. I don't have this issue with anyone else. Underdressing is not a big deal, but overdressing can make a salad inedible (and just unhealthy, which kills the point of me going here). I sincerely mean this to be constructive, not anonymous internet snark. I don't want to be that guy who says "Hey, you overdressed my salad, make me a new one," but the way this is going, that may be inevitable. Maybe I will just let someone pass me up in line when you are open, but then that person will get an overdressed salad, which is a bummer for everyone. Just my two cents. I agree with the comment about the Spring, the lamb was pretty gamey, not a very good salad. Just waiting for the Heirloom to come back this summer. read more

Ohh...I think they dropped the prices! My salad (make your own) consisted of choice of greens (mixed greens) with 4 staples, I chose red onions, carrots, chickpeas and edamame; 1 specialty-avocado; and dressing, soy sesame. It was delicious, filling and healthy. $6.95 + tax = $7.88! Service = fast. I'm not sure about friendly necessarily. :-P My friend loves their farmer sandwich, which has burrata, portabello mushrooms and other veggie delights. And it comes with a side of salad. During lunch time you can find all the Mixt Greens having lines of business dressed workers trailing out of its doors. If I see the kitchen lines I follow. Mixt Greens offers a wide variety of salads and several sandwiches that range from $9-12. The salads are served via salad counter. Although there are many line cooks waiting to take your order the line doesn't move as briskly as I would have thought. I think the main reason for the slowness is that there are only two cashiers. I ordered a seasonal salad "heirloom". It's composed of mixed greens, sweet corn, heirloom tomatoes, figs, vinaigrette, and goat cheese. They also give you a choice of how much dressing you'd like as well as a slice of bread. It's a good salad and the bread is good. I just wish some of the elements were more prominent and of great portion especially the tomatoes. Something was lacking. For being a ten dollar salad I expect more of a wow and satisfaction. ____ If you're hungry it'd be best to order the salads with meat in it. But then again you could also go to a burger joint for the same price. Why $2 for chips and cookies?? There's nice seating outside and for some reason it's rather easy to get a table. read more
