So we went last night to dinner with another couple. This was our first time. I love sushi. My wife is a vegetarian so we don't eat it often. We waited about 30 minutes at the bar and ordered a rainbow roll and a jalapeño popper thing. The sushi was good if not great and the jalapeño thing was very good. We were seated at the hibachi grill. Our orders were efficiently taken. The chef who's name was David was very personable. My reason for the mediocre review is not the service, waitstaff, or price, it's the actual food itself. I am not huge. I am 6 ft tall and weigh 190. After soup, salad, shrimp and ribeye combination plus sharing two appetizers, I was not full. The amount of rice and grilled veggies we each got was surprisingly small. My wife got the vegetable entree and she got three times the amount we received and she was able to finish her meal and she's not a big eater. Rice and veggies are cheap. I've eaten at Jiros, been to Japan 3 times, and ate sushi about once a week when we lived in ft worth, so I had hoped that our new town would have a good sushi place. Here's my first experience with Miyako since moving here: Ordered 7 rolls for takeout, got and paid for 6. One of the 6 paid for was missing and replaced by a double roll of something else. The rice was OK, the fish was barely passable, neither were bad but neither were great. People not affluent in what sushi should taste like might not be able to tell much difference, but the lack of quality was blazingly obvious to myself and my wife. The rolls were small, which is OK sometimes but at $114, with 10% tip, for 6 rolls and 2 miso soups, it was hardly a deal. It was also all packed in a single box so when I picked it up it was hard to tell if it was right. Think about it for a second, $114 and 6 rolls fit into a single plastic box, how's that possible? You make the rolls tiny and squish the rice together. 2 days later my wife had sushi from HEB or Kroger, I forget, and it was actually waay better, and cheaper, surprisingly so that we both agreed we'd eat that from now on. For the price, roll size, freshness, and order experience we will not be going back. There's a new place in town we'll try, and if that doesn't work out I guess it's grocery store or drive to ft worth. My advice to this business is that you're no longer the only game in town, and you need to improve aspects of your business, mainly the quality of your product, or you're going to start bleeding customers. read more

But every time we came back here, Miyako never failed us our satisfactions. Either dinner time or lunch time. I just don't know why, I had always had a good vibes at this place. My poor son-in-law had to work over the 4th, so when he came into town to join the rest of us we made sure to take him to Miyako for sushi. Yum yum! They have all kinds to try, and even my west Texas-raised husband enjoyed the choices. My daughter and son-in-law are pretty hard core, so they enjoyed the nigiri (red snapper and salmon), but we stuck to safe choices such as the Gator Roll, Fire & Ice, and the Granbury Roll. Just got back from probably my 26382th trip to Miyako's. It's always so good! My boyfriend doesn't like coming here all that much because it's kind of dark inside and we always get seated at the same table (it really bothers him for some reason haha) but I love the atmosphere! We've sat in the hibachi area once and the food and cooks were great. We normally sit in private dining though. My all time favorite roll is the Clawsfire! It has all kind of crawfish goodness in it and is super tasty. I also love the Granbury and Honeymoon rolls. I've definitely had better sushi but Miyako's is so good for what it is and where it's at. We have been going here for years. Haven't been in about a year, the food has been great up until now. The food was below average for a Japanese restaurant in our opinion (5 of us went as a group). There normally is some kind of interaction with the cook and some entertainment during the cooking of the meal, there was absolutely none. It was a very disappointing experience from the food and the entertainment. You pay out the nose when you go there so you would expect more. We won't go back. First of all, we only had the hibachi (we don't do sushi) however, everyone else was enjoying sushi! The first thing that we noticed when we walked in..it was very dark. They do not have very many hibachi stations so there was going to be a weight but we waited and he really didn't take long long. The chef was for deliberate and did all his performance..lol I had scallops and filet, he had chicken teriyaki. My meat was cooked to perfection! So tasty! Scallops were cooked correctly. The soup was good and the salad was yummy with an interesting dressing...ginger maybe? The sides were all great and flavorful. The food and service is great. The food tasted really good. The chefs also put on a good show. The only thing I thought was a little off in comparison to some of the other hibachis restaurants was the amount of rice. Most places load me is with so much rice I can have my left overs the next day and enjoy that delicious rice. I got maybe a cup of rice at most. Other then my rice issue everything tasted great and I got a little left overs for my noon lunch just no rice because it was too delicious. This deserves 5 stars. I have a lake home in Granbury, but live in Downtown Ft Worth. All the years I've been living there I never have been to Miyako. I love Sushi and typically w/my travels I avoid Sushi unless in a very large metropolitan area w/an Asian population and access to fresh fish imports or near the coast. We stopped yesterday and the food was really good. 4 start, but given it's Granbury 5 star. The octopus tasted fresh, stir fry vegetables were great, the tempura vegetables were very good. Soup was excellent. A/C a bit cold ( my wife needed a sweater). I just wish I had tried the sake. We didn't sit at the hibachi table because of COVID-19, but we did find a table that was well distanced. A few were a bit too close together but that risk in Granbury is lower. read more

One roll had green lettuce sticking out the ends for drama there was the smallest pea amount of wasabi and a small dab of ginger no garnish whatsoever. Extremely over priced. We ate here for the first time and enjoyed everything we ordered. We ordered 2 Bento Boxes, the Grilled Salmon and Tonkatsu, both including the 1 mushroom soup. We also ordered 2 sushi rolls the Sun Fire and the Fruta de Mar. It was about $70 a bit expensive for the quantity of food. At Nagoya in Arlington a Bento is a bit cheaper and would include 2 pieces of a California roll, a larger salad, and an option for a miso soup. Here we received a medley of diced cucumber and carrots with a vinegar type marinade that was delicious and cleansed the pallet, a small salad, and a much smaller vegetable medley than my hubby so for the price I would've preferred something more substantial. If you break it down the cost of the Bentos , soup, veggies, and rice is very marginal. So, most of the fee is for your protein and vegetable tempura. All quite delicious but wanting a little more bang for your buck. Also, in Arlington a sushi roll is typically a few dollars less than here and that's the city. This was our first time at this restaurant. We wanted to try the hibachi grill. The food was excellent, great atmosphere and our cook kept us entertained. We tipped the cook, got our bill, paid it and gave a small tip because our server wasn't that good. On the way out we were confronted by that server and she thought she deserved more money. I politely disagreed and took our children out the truck. I noticed my wife wasn't behind us, she soon came out and said she gave that girl more money because the server made her feel "bad". Hands down my favorite hibachi restaurant I've ever eaten at- and I've eaten at quite a few! We eat here fairly often, and I can honestly say I've never had a bad experience. This has got to be one of the worst Japanese restaurants I have ever been to. And we've been to a lot. My wife and I recently purchased a weekend condo here. We still have our place in Fort Worth. We went on a busy night so we decided to for go the cooking table and sit at a regular one due to Covid safety. First we started with a specialty sushi roll. OMG, it resembled a basic roll with your standard 6 pieces. For around 14.00, I don't think so. In FTW, you would get a large beautiful , delicious, unique, and expertly prepared roll. Then our dinner we decided a combo steak & chicken with vegetables. It looked like, and tasted, like a wanna be oriental plate at a cafeteria. For around 30.00 dollars, you've got to be kidding. Visually it looked like an Asian version of fajitas. No Japanese seasoning/flavor whatsoever. We asked the server how it's prepared and he said once cooked they then apply some type of sauce on top. He said only difference at the cooking table that they add the sauce while cooking. I guess that's their "show". I feel like the locals, not having anything else to compare it to, thinks it's great. Sorry folks, it's not! If one of many Fort Worth's great hibachi restaurants opened in Granbury, Miyucko may indeed turn into a cafeteria. read more

I never in my wildest dreams imagined I would ever find a sushi bar of this caliber outside of a major metropolitan area, much less in a small landlocked city in North Texas...and yet, here it is. Miyako is easily one of the top restaurants in Granbury, and quite possibly one of the top sushi restaurants in the metroplex. The all around quality is spectacular and, more importantly, reassuringly consistent. Said another way, you always know what you're getting, and you always know it's going to be good. My advice would be to sit at the sushi bar and let their sushi masters guide you. Start with a steaming bowl of miso soup, sample their simple, yet perfect, fried rice, and then dive into the sushi full force. Their sushi sampler is a great way to experience exactly how fresh their seafood selection is, and the Granbury and Claws Fire rolls are the best on the menu. For diners preferring food of the cooked variety, Miyako offers a full menu, as well as the ever-popular hibachi tables. Although I am always there for the sushi, I have both ordered off the menu and experienced the hibachis and was impressed. If you're a steak lover, the NY strip seared hibachi-style is out of this world. If you ever find yourself in G-town, I strongly recommend you give Miyako a try. read more

I've certainly had better sushi but for it being out in the sticks of Granbury, they do a hell of a job. And don't let its strip mall appearance and plumbing neighbor fool you. Like Gavin said, they are consistent which is a huge plus. Their wine list is lacking as is their sake menu but you can't win them all, eh? I'm not a huge fan of fried sushi so in my opinion the crunchy batter takes over the flavor of the Fat Tuesday Roll. My favorite roll is the Fire Claws, which is sooo bad for you but oh-so-good. Think lots of spicy sauce (aka, mayo) and creamy... but nothing was really that "spicy" about it, surprisingly. I also enjoyed the yellowtail nigiri and thought it was up to par with the quality I see in Dallas. Make sure you look at their specials on the board when you walk in, and if you aren't into standard table fare check out the three hibachi grills in the back room. On my last visit, the people at the hibachi behind me got a little too happy and started throwing chopsticks around the room. It was funny until one stabbed me in the back. read more
