I had been here before and thought the food was good with really reasonable prices so I wanted to come again because of the variety on the menu. We did have a bit of a wait but enjoyed a drink at the bar with fun bartenders. Ordered Chicken Oscar with Hollandaise and was disappointed. I suspect that the Hollandaise was out of a can and lacked flavor. My companions had Prime Rib and said it was great. Our server noticed I hadn't really eaten my dinner and asked if everything was okay. When I looked a little uncomfortable she said she would like to buy me a dessert. Reservations just guarantee that you will eventually get a table. The food and drinks were good. The server was excellent and I was impressed how she handled tables of 8, 10 and 14 persons all by herself with no assistance from other staff members. It is a shame that the manager and host staff have not figured out how to manage the reservations and seating them in a timely manner. We waited a hour and half to be seated and asked to speak with the manager. The manager could not make the time to speak with us until we gave the bill back to the server and asked her to give it to the manager and have the manager come and speak with us. (By that time we had been in the restaurant for over 3 hours) Every reservation that was waiting for their table was told by the hostesses that the people at their table were finished eating but were sitting there talking and there was nothing they could do. Literally, every reservation was told this because I listened to the hostesses say the same thing to each customer that approached them. The manager stated she has been with the restaurant for 23 years. I have eaten here 1 other time in the past and unfortunately the wait time for a reservation is consistant, well over an hour wait. We will not go back and it is unfortunate because all that needs to be corrected is properly training the hostesses on how to do their job and be able to seat people in a timely manner, but if the manager can't accomplish this how can you expect teenagers to do it. read more

Favorite place to eat out! If you go for dinner, you might have a wait, but it is worth it. You will get more than enough food whatever you order. The quality of food is supurb. We have driven by countless times on a Friday night and the place is always packed. As we were traveling north yet again, this time on a Thurs. We decided to stop. So glad we did. In Wisconsin our summers are too short and I have always loved this place for its yummy fish fry and huge outdoor seating area. I love to sit outdoors for dinner. The last time we dined here we asked for outdoor seating and were seated under the tented area. We noticed that no one was seated outside of the tent area. Sitting in a tent IS NOT SITTING OUTSIDE! So disappointed. This used to be my absolute favorite fish fry place but the fries were too salty and the fish was a little greasy. It still tasted pretty good but not worth the drive from Brookfield anymore. Too bad. Bye bye MJs. I won't be taking the trip out there in the future. read more

Very hearty portions, exceptional service and great atmosphere. First time for Friday Fish Fry with a family of 5. While we had a 45-minute wait, the hostess was very friendly and helpful as she let us know where we were in line. Our children had the chicken strips and waffle fries, and they told us it was the best they have ever had. My husband and I had the fish fry with their secret recipe fish coating, homemade coleslaw, waffle fries and rye bread. Excellent fish- we just found our new favorite fish fry place. We had the cream of duck with wild rice soup. It was flavorful and delicious. We definitely rate it the highest. Then we had fried walleye fish and fish fry. They were both very fresh, flavorful and delicious. This was one of the best meals in our 14-day cross country drive. Today, we ate for lunch the leftover fish that we kept in the hotel refrigerator. The breading, of course, is no longer crisp. But the texture and flavor of the walleye and the cod fish fry were just as fresh and tasty as yesterday. They did not smell fishy at all after one day. My wife and I went to this restaurant for the first time on Sweetest day. We had a server named Suzanne who was just a delight to talk to. She definitely seemed to enjoy her job which made us feel very welcome. We both had the Prime Rib. It was so tender and flavorful. We both agreed it was the best Prime Rib we had ever eaten. Came at 5:30 on a Friday, waited 30 minutes for an outdoor table...well worth the wait! Enjoyed a beverage in the beer garden while we waited (Bloody Mary was decent, well garnished). I ordered the dry rub ribs and was shocked at how tasty they were. Took my knife to cut them apart and they fell apart, so tender. Well spiced, now I am curious how they are with bbq sauce. The fish-fry is amazing. The fish is not your traditional beer-battered, cinnamon-flavored, but homemade breaded Atlantic Cod. Once you are seated the service is great & the waitresses are very friendly & attentive. Their wait times, on the hand, are ridiculous. We have been skipped and had to wait extra time with no compensation for the additional (30-45 minute) wait time. A few times we were told that "first available" meant that everyone that picked an area to sit got seated first & the "first available" got seated after that. Their table turning is awful. While waiting in their bar areas I've seen tables stay empty for 10-15 minutes while people were not being seated. Over-all if you have no where else to be on a Friday night M J Stevens is a great place to be but if you're looking to get in & out in a timely fashion - you're better off going someplace else. read more

Way overpriced for the "quality" of food you get. I was expecting way better food from what people who like the place have told me. I had the chicken Oscar and the chicken was extremely low quality with lots of gristle (seemed like a frozen patty they pre-bought not fresh) the crab on top was definitely NOT fresh at all, it was imitation crab and the crab on my husband's pasta dish was definately imitation crab as well. Speaking of my husband's dish it had absolutely NO flavor, I didn't believe him until I tried it myself and was astonished that it didn't takes like *anything*, I don't think they seasoned a THING on that dish and he ended up putting lots of salt and pepper to even make it palatable. I can't believe a place that costs that much money puts out such low quality fare. Service was also very slow on a not-so-busy night. Would NOT go back! read more
