The only thing is there is usually a long line but it goes really quick. The food comes out quick and the service is amazing. The workers are nice and friendly. It's good to see that Moby Dick's still managed to hire an all foreign staff, despite the visa restrictions put in place by the federal government. When I went, the place was staffed entirely by English girls, and for that reason alone Moby Dick's earns a few stars. Their nametags all state their home country, almost as if it's an apology. "We're sorry it's hard to understand Holly's accent. She's from England. You'll understand." The chowder is meh. But the lobster roll is good. It's all meat, and either very little or no mayonaise. But the soda had too much ice. Also, they fill it for you, so no free refills. And the fact that they have an entirely separate building just for the gift shop is completely chintzy. These guys do it right. This is probably the best restaurant between truro and orleans (which isn't saying much). But it's the best of the family oriented places. We got lobster rolls. The fresh lobster was piled HIGH on a toasted bun, and with a cup of melted butter, perfect for dipping the lobster chunks or pouring it right over it all. The french fries were crunchy, which is how all french fries should be. The irish students, I mean staff, were all really nice and helpful. The food was fresh and quality ingredients were used. The only downside, which is a big one, is parking. This place gets awfully crowded, to the point where you can't find a parking spot. But if you go before 5:30pm or after 8pm, you should do all right. read more

Very good. A line but they give you menus and even on a rainy day you are standing under cover. You are ready to order when you hit the head of the line (moves pretty quickly) and the food comes out promptly. You can sit totally indoors or under a roof. Good food. If you are tired of fries with your lobster or clams, ask for a substitute. Along with the good cole slaw I had a black bean salad. You can bring in your own beer or wine. Old school, family run seafood restaurant. Food is terrific, service is even better. Owner Todd remembers you from one yearly visit to the next. They correct the rare mistake quickly, apologetically and overcompensate with freebies. However, they rarely make a mistake. The food is great, and despite the lines, it moves quickly. For a perfectly boiled lobster dinner on Cape Cod this IS the place. There is a very specific system in place, so don't be surprised if, 1 - you have to wait online for 15-30 min and 2 - get handed a menu outside. Additionally to cut down on costs, they use heavyweight paper and plastic plates cups and utensils (no dishwashing) so if you're expecting fine china, go elsewhere. My wedge salad was awesome and large enough at $5.99 to be a light meal, my crab cake sandwich was yummy ($12.99) with a lot of meat, the chicken Caesar was also quite large and my bf liked it and his seafood gumbo a lot. You order at the front and sit where you like, the servers/cashiers were friendly and we're from places like S. Africa and England on student visas I'm guessing. We'll go back, but maybe order a little less food. We could have shared pretty easily, and the fried meals ordered by the table next to us were large portions and looked delicious (even the broccoli;) read more

Moby Dick's is one of the classic family friendly seafood restaurants in the Truro/Wellfleet area. When on the Cape, I'm a regular customer. This year I ate there twice. The broiled scallop dinner was good - a little overcooked but still fresh and sweet. Plain broiled scallops depend on freshness since there is no sauce or seasonings to mask the fish. The lobster roll was delicious - generous with almost invisible mayo. I got a little butter on the side. Mmm Staff are friendly, coming from many countries. They are helpful - regular refills on drinks, extra napkins, and responsive to "more lemon, please". This year, as I left the Cape I stopped at MD for a lobster roll to go. I was the among the first customers. Staff was still setting up. Oh no, it was awful, $22 awful. The lobster meat had a bad smell obviously left from the day (week?) before. It was small, the size of the $11 one down the road. The meat was scraps - mushy. I threw it out. It's difficult to write a three star review based on one negative experience. I tried to call 2x to let a manager know but the number listed is a fax machine. Go to Moby Dicks but if you order food to go check it out before you leave the restaurant. read more

We never would have pulled into this place just because it looks like the standard, old touristy joint. But a friend suggested we try it. Glad we did! No frills, simply good food. The hubs had fried whole belly clams and they were done perfectly. Ever so lightly breaded. He even commented that the tartar sauce was a step above the usual ... had a slight "kick". I ordered the lobster bisque. Delish! But as is often the case, it was only lukewarm, not piping hot. I also had the lobster roll, which was a tad disappointing. The lobster itself was good and plentiful. The New England style roll was not up the the status of the lobster. I wish they would consider upping their game with a quality roll and toast it. Fries were good .... but again, not really hot. Nice, friendly service. This is a BYOB place, by the way. We will definitely return, but I believe I will skip the pricey lobster roll and try something else. read more

Sorry that it's taken me so long to write this review, but I must say that this is theeee absolute BEST of the BEST for some of the most authentically prepared freshest seafood grub ever! 1st of all...there's always a line, so just deal with it! (No line - - the place sucks...duhhh!!) Their Lobster Bisque is rich and flavorful, their oysters are delicate and outright delicious... I've tried it all on the menu...run scoring triples all the way! When the owner is present, he makes it a continual habit of always making sure everything is fine..."Of course it is! This place has a unique way of ordering and seating. Bring your own alcohol!! They don't have any! I had a Caesar salad with broiled scallops. The salad was below average but the scallops had a nice portion and flavor to them. My husband had broiled shrimp and scallops and was very pleased. We both had the lobster bisque and we were not impressed. The lobster was ground and we found very little pieces in the soup. We finished by splitting a piece of key lime pie which was EXCELLENT! Stopped by at this restaurant on our way back to Provincetown, MA. Having heard so much about lobster rolls, decided it was time to give it a try. The amount of lobster meat was quite plenty for anyone hungry, however it lacked much flavor. No sauces or dressing to compliment the meat. Had to resort to some melted butter and lemon juice to bring out the fresh lobster meat flavor. I recommend providing some dressing / sauce on the actual roll or on the side. First time I had been here and will definitely go back! The food was hot and fresh and came out quickly. The owner was walking the restaurant making sure everything was ok and even refilled my drink for me. He answered any questions and the staff (both local and from out of country) were just as amazing! It's hard to find a place that cares that much. Upon arriving at this restaurant there was a line out the door. We asked how long the wait would be and was quoted 10 minutes. We thought we had to wait a long time but surprisingly the wait was quite short. We were given menus while we were on line. Once we reach the door we realized that you order and pay before being seated. After we were taken to our seats and the food arrived to our table promptly. They bought out the seafood gumbo first. We had the cup size and it was relatively small. It was pretty good with rice and chunks of sausage and seafood. Then our crab cakes arrived and it was quite thin and small. It was okay and a little greasy. We also ordered the grilled seafood kebob and a pound of steamers. I'm a fan of the seafood kebob, it had swordfish, scallops, shrimp, summer squash, zucchini, onion, red pepper and rice pilaf. The steamers consist of mussels and clams. It's very basic and comes with drawn butter and clam broth. For dessert we had the key lime pie. This is a seafood restaurant, but out of everything we had the key lime pie was a favorite. Always a stop when we're in Wellfleet. The service is professional, the restaurant is clean and the owners are present to ensure it all runs smooth. Food is fresh, tasty and priced right. Only caution is: because this place is so popular, there can be long lines to get in, but they will move folks along at a steady pace and it gives you plenty of time to review what is on the menu before you get in. After reading the reviews here, we came in with pretty high expectations. Unfortunately, the food was bland and pretty gross. We got: - Lobster - Comes in whole and slightly overcooked, with a plastic container unsalted clarified butter. You have to crack it yourself, so be ready to be covered in lobster guts. Ive done this before and knew what to expect, but the whole thing was chewy and flavorless. Comes with an unseasoned corn on the cob. - Scallops - Seriously overcooked, lacking flavor, and taste like they were previously frozen (kind of a slimy texture). Comes with a prepackaged container of tartar sauce and an unseasoned baked potato. - Oysters with pesto - These were actually pretty tasty, though cooked like escargot (broiled with pesto) - unusual, but the only good thing about the meal. - Key lime pie - Tastes like it was made from store bought mix. The servers are all women from England and Ireland, which was a bit strange. At one point the owner sat down at our table and started regailing us with the exact same stories about nice drives in the area and pirate ships that we just heard him tell the other 2 tables in the restaurant. Oh Moby's. How I used to adore you. I'd been coming for over 15 years and loving it. But alas, it's finally jumped the shark. Prices have just gotten borderline insane, which was probably inescapable since they're always crowded. $21 mediocre lobster roll, $9 bowl of seafood gumbo with no fish to be found. $24 for grilled shrimp and scallops. Maybe these prices are fine for a waitered, table clothed restaurant but you're standing on a long line, crammed into a small dining area with no A/C and wondering how you dropped so much money. Also, small pet peeve: why replace the large paper soda cups with tiny plastic cups loaded with ice? How much $ does that actually save the proprietors? Because it's insanely annoying to have to ask for refills 4 times. On the plus side, the college age European help does try hard, and the fish and chips were still yummy. Please Moby's, watch your prices, retain the value you're known for, and give us a decent sized cup of soda for having stood in line for 45 minutes. read more

We really enjoyed our recent visit at Moby Dick. The ambiance is classic cape cod-looks good to us. We whole fried clams are fantastic; good size, tasty batter coating, cooking level was right on. The fish sandwich was also very tasty- the fried fish is light and crispy done just right. Very worthy of a return next year. read more
