Even though it was my first check in here i made a self promise that It wouldn't be my last. Seriously, right when I walked in there was a sudden vibe of tranquility and calmness. Maybe it Was the no music playing but only the pure harmony of silence + the modern interior decor. Im the type to count calories of every sprinkle on a cupcake... but For beard papas cream puffs? I literally devoured it without tracking my calories. It. Was. That. Good. The beard papas cream puffs were calling my name w/ it's scrumptious display behind the cashiers window. There is a cream puff station where the cashiers would pump in the cream once you order it so it would be fresher than the prince of bel air. There are 2 sizes you can opt for which are the mini puffs or the regular sized ones which are as big as the palm of your hands!! Can u guess which one I went for? That's right the bigger the better! *on the outer layer of the pastry lays a crispy flaky buttery crust, with a light powdered dust atop. In the center is this yellow custard cream that takes you to heaven and back w/ every bite :-) I love beard papas and I'm so very thankful that Mochi provides that instore! mochi creates all sorts of stuff literally they have the fish ice cream where it's a fish shaped crepe thingy with your choice of icecream on top (that's really been poppin lately) but I haven't tried it, maybe one day I will if I feel like cheating calories again. Mochi- can you please teach your staff proper hygiene. I love the goodies here but everytime I come I see the staff touching either the phone or the register or their hair with their gloves hands then touching the food items. I feel like they've been slowly going downhill and the renaming of the store is the last mail to the coffin. Back when it used to be "Mochilato", they sold traditional mochi on top of the mochi ice cream, but not anymore. Which I find is ridiculous since their name is Mochi, but no normal mochi? And they sell taiyaki with ice cream instead? I see their prebaked taiyaki fish heads in the corner, it's not going to be fresh out of the oven hot like other taiyaki places. Maybe they're grasping at straws because they're not doing too hot financially? Other than that, their mochi ice cream, regular gelato and sorbet are alright. Staff is nice and tables are clean to sit at. Shaved ice is decent but basic. Meet Fresh and Blackball do it better. They're just whatever now if you're too lazy to go anywhere else. After eating kbbq, we were craving sweets. Since we were in the plaza, I automatically wanted to get at mochilato only to see that it is now called mochi. The mochi was just not the same as I remembered so I was a bit disappointed. It tasted like store bought mochi. We ordered the mango, pistachio and black sesame. The black sesame flavor wasn't great. I like that this place has a lot of options to choose from. It ranges from gelato, mochi, cream puff, shaved ice, snow, and even normal, non-dessert food. It was difficult to choose what to get because options are so endless. Prices do seem a bit steep for some items. I noticed that a large shaved ice was like 25 dollars, which is a crazy amount of money just for shaved ice?? I feel like some items like the mochi or Taiyaki, you could just walk over to Mitsuwa or Daiso next door and get it for cheaper as a pack. I came here for their Taiyaki and I was surprisingly not disappointed. They have a lot of filling options but I went for the traditional red bean. After lunch, we decided to have some Americanos and Fish cakes at Mochi. We ordered 2 hot Americanos and 4 Fish cakes. They told us that they will call our number. Somehow, they didn't call our number for maybe 10 minutes. We went to pick up our order, we found only Fish cakes in a to-go box without any plates. They were okay, not great, for its high price. We had to eat it without our Americanos. When we went back to pick them up, they forgot to make them. Finally, when we pick them up, they were lukewarm. When we ask them why, they said their hot water machine is broken and they used a microwave oven to warm it up!!! We had to ask them to microwave them more twice. If their hot water machine is broken, they shouldn't be selling Americanos, in my opinion. They apologized, but didn't offer anything else (e.g. refund). read more

My brother and I came in around 11-11:15am and apparantly nothing was set up or ready to go when the store was already opened. We ordered the 5 mini beard papa cream puffs and was told that it was too hot so we needed to wait 3-4 minutes. Okay, that's fine...then 15 minutes pass and we go up there to find out what's going on and they said "oh oops we gave your order to the other customers" uhhhhhh ok then hurry up and make ours ASAP! Instead of just standing around talking amongst each other. They suck I miss the old owners. Btw, they ONLY have regular custard. No other flavors! "Milk tea": They gave me a room temperature drink that looks like coffee tasted like tea in Water with a lot of brown sugar at the bottom. I am a regular customer at Mochilato but my favorite is not their shaved ice or gelato, to me it is the croissant taiyaki! Yep, they are the only korean dessert place in Irvine and 15 miles radius area who sells my favorite snack. Btw, now they renamed it into Mochi Food: ***** Taiyaki is very crispy and hot, they all freshly made when we order so it took 10' waiting but it's totally worth it. Price: ***** You can get the taiyaki for $3.95 which is 45 cent more than Snowy Village in Buena Park but that's okay for me since driving there would cost me an extra same. The place is very clean and neat and not too crowded when I was there. It had a cafe feeling to it where people are seen with their laptops and tablets browsing the internet or catching up on work. The noise level was low and people were listening to music with headphones. There are lots of different treats to choose from. My friend and I had the Italian shaved strawberry ice garnished with fresh strawberry, kiwi, banana and mango slices. The presentation was very beautiful and it only took a few minutes for them to build it. The flavor was amazing and the portion was just right for two people to share. My kids love Hawaiian shaved ice and we just happened to be in the area. Bought 1 cup for each of my kids expecting it to be the typical flavors served in a white foam cup. When we received our order, the top 2 inches of one of the cups was cracked on one side and a triangular-shaped inch was missing on the other. When I asked for a new cup the employee named Sara gave me an attitude and said that the cracked cup does not reflect on the content. Wtf?! Is this how you serve a paying customer? I even tipped them thinking how bad can the service be? Boy was I wrong. Called and complained to the floor supervisor who didn't seem to care either. I used to be a fan of the puff pastries here but it has been two years since I've been here and the quality plus taste are no longer satisfactory. I came here for dessert after dinner next door. I saw an outdoor sign that offered "sparkling sorbet drinks" and was enticed. Sparkling? Sorbet? My two favorite things. I choose the strawberry basil sorbet. Sadly, I was regretful first sip and regret paying an exorbitant $5.50 for sparkling water and subpar sorbet. I could barely taste any strawberry since the basil was so overpowering. If you like a strong taste of basil, and little strawberry flavor, I suppose you'd enjoy this very much. I also tried the chocolate eclair. Unfortunately this was an equal counterpart of the aforementioned sorbet. Tasted frozen and not fresh, as it used to. Will not order again and could hardly force it down. I stumbled upon this place and the name automatically interested me. Mochilato sells gelato-filled mochi, and they are quite good. I got the tiramisu and coffee flavors, and both tasted very good. It was nice that the gelato wasn't super hard or icy as some mochi ice cream places can be, so that was refreshing. The mochi was still chewy and wasn't really all that messy to eat. Only downside is that each piece is $2. A little pricey for me. However, still good and would recommend people try it out. read more

With so much to choose from, I decided on a cream puff from Beard Papa since I have never had one before. You get to pick the outside shell of your cream puff and then the flavor of cream filling. I decided to order the Original shell and standard vanilla cream filling. It was very tasty, but I wished there was a little more cream filling in the middle. BF ordered a waffle cone with chocolate gelato. He devoured this very quickly. A nice treat on a warm day. He said the gelato was delicious. An order came up while we were waiting in line and I had to take a picture. It was the Italian style shave ice. It was a masterpiece of shave ice with fruit adorning the sides. They didn't really greet or explain anything to me as I looked confused at the board. I was looking for mochi donuts, which I mentioned, but they only mentioned the cream puffs. It's kinda weird they have many Japanese stuff.. Oh well. $10 minimum for credit card usage. Plenty of parking. They sell bunch of stuff : Japanese classy cookies by "Yoku Moku", macrons, rice cake and other nostalgic desserts, "Beard Papa's" cream puffs, mochi ice cream, gelato, shaved ice, dippin' dots, waffle, foods like fried rice, drinks like tea and coffee etc. It's just too many and I can't figure the whole products out. - Gluttony Expedition - Shaved ice - Mochilato style: They put the shaved ice in the regular size drink cup (1 person size for $5.95) for eat-in... It was way overpriced. I felt like I was ripped off. It was also freaking hard to eat - they put lots of fruits (mango, banana, strawberries and kiwi), mochi and little sweet bean paste on top of the very weak green tea normal shaved ice (it wasn't a fluffy Taiwanese one. More like Hawaiian one). In the middle, they put vanilla gelato (I guess) and very watery strawberry things at the bottom... I don't understand what was about mixed Italian and Japanese styles...For the price and quality (very watery), I really should have gone to "Class 302"...;( - Conqueror's Deduction - Korean people make awesome Korean foods. When they copy other Asian stuff, they can make them look better for sure, but not so much of better taste. I've tried many Korean tea places, but they were all overpriced and disappointing. F-YEAH! If you are a fan of mochi and gelato you will LOOOVE mochilato. This spot has: Mochi Gelato mochi+gelato= mochilato GIGANTIC Italian and Japanese style shave ice. Mochilato is more than just a name. They carry an array of flavors- mango, hazelnut, chocolate hazelnut, vanilla, creme brulee and the list goes on. If you are not into mochilatos... this place also has mochi and gelato by itself. I am not a huge fan of mochi but I sure do loooove gelato. I tried the creme brulee and tiramisu mochilato. I was a bit disappointed that the creme brulee did not taste like creme brulee. It was more plain vanilla. The tiramisu on the other hand tasted more like alcohol than mascarpone. Both were still tasty. The mochi was surprisingly okay. It was not too hard or too chewy. The highlight of my visit was the Barrista Way shave ice. That was amazing!!!
