Came here on Tuesday! Got there maybe around 2pm, and there was no line. Staff is very friendly. They had a lot of cookies, breads, and other pastries. They also sell coffee! But I mainly came for their english muffins. It's super delicious when you toast them, and make a little breakfast sandwich. The inside is a nice place to have a little brunch. Their infamous English Muffins are very good, but more of a hamburger bun pretending to be an English muffin. They re lighter and fluffier than a traditional one. They leave oil on your hands when toasted before spreading my own butter on them. They would in fact make a good burger bun. read more

I've always driven 11/2 hrs to get to Model bakery in St Helena. Now that they opened a beautiful store front in Walnut Creek. I'll be able to save an hr and visit more often. Their English Muffins are my favorite! I can't wait to actually sit on the patio and enjoy a sandwich on their freshly baked bread. Don't let the line out the door scare you! After trying this place in napa i couldn't wait for the walnut creek location to open (its closer to me). I could not be more impressed with this location! They have the same great food and ambiance PLUS more seating options, i think its an upgrade from the napa location because there is more space. You have to try "the original" breakfast sandwich i also always get the cappuccino with oatmilk. For the holidays they had this super cute and tasty gingerbread cookie the drinks always come out fast but the food does take a minute as its always pretty full! Persuaded my walking group by teasing them w/ their infamous English muffins from the oxbow Napa location they were anticipating the opening as well. We showed up ready to try our local bakery & came away with great results. They greeted us with welcoming arms & wonderful service. This place is always a stressful experience. My first visit was in afternoon and everything was sold out, I figured that was on me. Returned again in the morning and signature product was already sold out. I walked out along with several other customers. For my last try today I ordered ahead of time, and they actually had it, but then there werent any tables. Customers are pushy and antsy probably due to confusing layout. If you want to try this place my recommendation would be order food for pick up only ( so you know for sure they even have what you want to try) and enjoy it someplace else. read more

Their English muffins are very good, of course (thanks to the addition of butter in their recipe), and the interior of this cafe is elegant and comfortable. Also on the positive side, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. I would happily return just for a cup of coffee/tea with an English muffin. But on the whole, the food was very average, which is why I am only giving 3 stars. I tried both sweet and savory items, and nothing was special, really. I can easily make a much tastier Mexican Wedding cookie with a few ingredients. Even the jam that came with the toasted English muffin tasted very "meh." And I was sorry I ordered a $16 kale salad there instead of getting a much better and less expensive one from nearby SweetGreen instead. Sorry to say, you can do much better by going to the other side of the tunnel (e.g., Market Hall in Rockridge). It's only about a 15-minute drive (outside rush hour). read more

I went to Model Bakery early at 7:30am on Tuesday morning. There was no line and about six people were dining in. The place is beautifully decorated with tables inside and a patio with a few tables outside. I bought a 12 oz cappuccino $5.50, the original breakfast sandwich $13.00 on a fluffy English muffin. It had a thin slice of ham, a mountain of egg and a slice of cheese, very filling. I also bought a 6pk of English muffins for $14.00. My bill came to $33.50. While the ambiance was nice and the food was decent, I found it a bit expensive. By the time I left, there was a short line of about 4 people. We arrived close to closing time, at 2:30pm. English muffins were sold out, no big deal. We ordered two lattes, a drip coffee and some cookies and brownies. It took 18 minutes for the coffees to be made. We waited on the patio, and after getting our coffees it was now 2:48. At 2:50 an employee walked out and practically yelled that they were closing in 10 minutes and that we would have to leave the patio at that time. Then at 2:56 she returned and again in an uncomfortably loud tone (the patio is tiny) said "You have 4 minutes! There is a city of Walnut Creek Public patio that you can use across the street!" The cookies were dry and her aggressive "service" was awful. The coffee was mid; more foam than espresso. The happy hour savings were not worth the rude interaction. read more

I love what they have done with the place and will definitely come here for my next meeting or breakfast in town. The decor is nice, welcoming with a good vibe. What I came here for, though, was the famous English Muffins. You have to come early, they do sell out, but let me tell you, it's worth it. They are not your traditional English muffin -- don't expect an elevated "Thomas's" disc. These things are creatures in their own separate category. They have the smell and texture of a doughnut, but without the sweetness. The fun is adding your own sweetness to this crazy good texture. I love them with a shmear of cream cheese and gobs of fresh fruit preserves, good quality stuff. It's like making your own pastry exactly the way you like it. I have also tried them with Nutella and they are divine. Of course, you can eat them plain with a little salted butter and they still taste super yummy. I want to try them with eggs benedict, I'll bet they will be great. I'm so glad they opened here. No more trips to Napa for these divine muffin creatures. Pure bliss. read more

While I waited for my food I heard an argument between what I assume is the manager and a staffer. He was yelling at her and it was just an awkward experience as a customer sitting in their lobby. This place has gone down hill fast!!! The staff seem miserable and there are far less workers present. My buddy, Kasey, is gone and she was hella cool. I asked the guy with the mustache but he seemed confused. So I asked one of the cashiers and she said she's gone. I have been coming because she made me feel like we were friends. The food is better than McDonald's but for that price with the wait being what it is, I'll be passing. The pastries are mediocre (hit and miss) and the wait for breakfast has been long. like 20-30 minutes with minimal people there. I love model bakery in Napa and Yountville but this Walnut Creek location seems to need more time to figure things out. The food and drink was good but they never called our number for the drinks so we had to go to the counter to figure it out. Our two breakfast sandwiches took 30 minutes. I don't like rushing employees so we waited 20 minutes to finally say anything after multiple orders after ours were called. Then, when we asked to change it to "to-go" they seemed as if that was an issue but we no longer had as much time to eat in since it took awhile. Three of us had coffee and a pastry each. My chocolate croissant had a small rectangle of ice cold chocolate in the middle of the croissant. The bear claw was similarly cold.
