For those of you who don't dare venture to MacArthur Park for the best Jewish deli, Daughter's Deli is a fine substitute. The thick-cut pastrami was heavenly, and from my first bite of the Papa, it brought me back to the first time I had the #19 at Langer's. The Papa ($27) is jam-packed with thick-cut pastrami, Swiss cheese, and coleslaw on double-baked rye bread. I attempted to recreate the influencer aesthetic by photographing the Papa sandwich with both halves together, but failed because it was too oily from the pastrami. While the pastrami itself was good, it was dripping with oil, almost as if it had been soaked in broth. The texture on the crust of the Rye was more toasted than double baked. I must say as much as I enjoyed the crunch from the crust of the Rye. I prefer Langer's over Daughter's Deli. The ordering process is a bit different here - you order at the register and pay upfront, which isn't the usual Jewish deli experience. I wanted to try the potato salad, macaroni salad, and coleslaw, and was happy to pay extra for them, but Adrian was incredibly kind and gave me a sample of each without charge. I really appreciate that! I had this place bookmarked for a while and was happy to finally try it, but it was a bit underwhelming compared to my favorite Jewish deli. Wife and I have been fans of Langers and Nate & Al's pastrami sandwich for years now. I had no idea this place existed until I saw it on social media. I haven't been to other restaurants in several months due to life, but I don't remember paying so much for a sandwich. 2 sandwiches, 2 sodas and fries + tip was $81. The food was absolutely delicious and portions are large but just seems pricy for a sandwich. The parking lot is extremely small and can kind of be a nightmare to get to depending on when you go. They are moving soon, hopefully the new parking situation will improve. I think I'd go back to Nat & Al's or Langers first before coming back here. read more

Seating is very limited--maybe three tables and a counter by the window--so most of the action is outside. Everything I've tried here has been solid. Yes, it's pricey, but the quality makes up for it. The pastrami is the star: tender, melty, and worth the splurge. Corned beef is good too, though not quite as tender. The matzo ball soup hits the spot, and you can get it with chicken and egg noodles (the way I like it). Honestly, you could split a sandwich and a bowl of soup between two people and leave perfectly full. They've got Dr. Brown's sodas too--Root Beer and Black Cherry--which is a nice touch. The food at Canter's isn't on this level, but Canter's has the history and atmosphere that keeps it worth visiting. Here, it's all about the quality of the food. Coleslaw and Russian dressing isn't too sweet and too sour and overpowering. It is just perfect. It is very delicate. It isn't too tart. chili cheese fries was delicious. It's greasy, but not too greasy potato salad was just OK for me. But other than that great customer service and a nice outdoor patio to have lunch outside. They have a small parking lot out front which is super convenient, especially given its prime location on Sunset. It comes with a small side, we got cucumber salad. The sandwich was good, we loved the thick pieces of high quality pastrami. Overall tasty meal. I've had better though, but it was probably in NY. So maybe the best LA pastrami sandwich. I added a pretty generous amount of dijon mustard to it. But can we talk about the bread? We ate the sandwich instantly, right out front at the picnic tables, and very quickly, the bread got soggy. My last bite, the bread was barely holding on. I can't even imagine what it would be like if we ordered for takeout and waited to eat it when we got home. I feel like they need to figure that out, but the pastrami itself was delicious. We stopped by Daughter's Deli on Thursday afternoon and really enjoyed our visit. The Papa Pastrami sandwich was excellent--flavorful and generously portioned. I personally prefer a lighter sauce, so we asked for light Russian dressing, which was perfect. The portion size is great and definitely easy to share. I also loved the side cucumber vinaigrette salad--it was fresh, light, and delicious. We tried the chicken schnitzel sandwich as well, which was crispy, flavorful, and very satisfying. The only downside is the parking situation. There are just a couple of spots, so you'll most likely need to find street parking. They are at a temporary location down in Little Ethiopia ( South Fairfax) in a store front where you make and pick up your orders from outside the store. I rang a bell and someone asked me if I was picking up and I said I had not ordered yet. Someone soon came to take my order. They were very pleasant. I knew I wanted to try the pastrami sandwich with deli mustard and their double baked rye bread. I also wanted to get a slice of plain cheesecake. Order took about 10 minutes or so and then I paid. Potato latkes were very good but I would say the portion was light. , 3 small. Cornedbeef sandwich was disappointing the corn beef was dry and the portion was small considering prices and typical Jewish deli sandwiches. Also had the pastrami sky high now the pastrami is excellent about as good as I've had. Been wanting to come here for quite a while since it started flooding my social media channels. Taking the long trek from OC we had high expectations and it didn't disappoint. Ordered: The papa - pastrami was absolutely perfect while the rye bread was the best we've ever had (been to Katz deli and a bunch of other delis) hands down! All the ingredients stood on their own, launching their own flavor profiles at just the right time during the chew. Awesome sandwich...so awesome I feel calling it just a sandwich doesn't do it justice. Bagel with cream cheese and bacon for the kiddos. Well done bagel. It was really good. Caesar Salad was really good too. You can tell by the anchovies forward dressing it was made with fresh ingredients. I don't know what magic they put in their "Papa" pastrami sandwich, but it's one of the most delicious sandwiches I've ever had... other than the OG from Langer's deli in midtown (which is owned by the same family). The rye bread with its crispy crust comes from double-baking it. They re-heat the bread and then cut it when making the sandwich so it's warm on the inside. Combine that with the coleslaw, the thinly sliced Swiss and delicious pastrami inside... It's absolutely perfect. Even the potato salad is excellent. And the fresh pickle. A must try if you're at Sunset Plaza. Fast service and they have a lovely outside covered patio for dining in; great on sunny days. The takeout sandwich is beautifully wrapped in white paper and when you open it up, it looks absolutely flawless. You can see from the photos. read more

The Papa sandwich at Daughter's Deli looked deceptively small on the plate, but nope, not small at all! Flavorful, high-quality pastrami, and excellent rye bread. I was debating whether I should get a more simple sandwich with just pastrami, cheese, and mustard, but this one was a good call. The crunchy slaw and the Russian dressing were a good counterbalance to the saltiness of the pastrami. I think this is probably slightly better than Langer's... and I like Langer's slightly more than Katz's Deli in NYC. Yeah, I said it! The sandwich came with a small side (I chose mac salad). The mac salad tasted as expected - nothing out of the ordinary. It also came with a pickle. I'm not a big fan of pickles, but I did give this one a try. It tasted like a pickle. There is a small parking lot out front, and I was lucky to snag a spot when I got there on a Saturday just before 1PM. This place is on the Sunset Strip, so if the parking lot is full... well, good luck to ya. They were fairly busy, with plenty of people dining in. Also quite a few people coming in just to pick up orders. It looked to be an even mix of both locals and tourists. The staff were friendly and quick. Pricing is a little steep - my sandwich, fries, and a lemonade came out to just a few cents under $40 after tax and before tip.
