Tasty, but I wish it was softer as it's a bit hard to chew and cut with a spoon and fork. I prefer the version at Daeho. We enjoyed our dining experience at Modoo - food was authentic, staff was nice, and the seating (we got the table with partitions) was very comfy. We ordered the tofu stew, oxtail soup, and fried dumplings, and every dish was spot on. The oxtail soup was my favorite -- hearty, comforting, and full of tender meat. The broth was simmered for hours, which is incredibly satisfying. It's not too flavorful so they it also comes with salt and pepper for those who prefers a stronger taste. The tofu stew with seafood was rich and flavorful, packed with plenty of ingredients, while the tofu was soft. We also ordered fried dumplings, which were slightly underwhelming but not bad as an appetizer to start off our meal. In short Huge menu, exceptionally good ingredients, a little more expensive than some spots as a result, huge dining room and STILL always a line out the door. In long This isn't the most sumptuous stretch of 99, but the affordable real estate has drawn in tons of great restaurants in between all the car dealerships and strip malls. You can barely see Modoo until you're practically on top of it, but that's not to say it's tough to find. There's just a bunch of landscaping out front blocking the sign. You could be forgiven for not realizing how great a restaurant there is in a building like this. It's one of those tilt-up office-park-type things that looks like they built it as inexpensively as possible. It's nice as soon as you're inside, though. Big bustling dining room with more rooms off to the side. Tons of booths, tons of tables, tons of families, tons of people overall. You check in on a kiosk and it texts you when you're on deck for the next table, then they call you and guide you back. We were extraordinarily lucky to wait only 10 minutes at 1:30 in the afternoon. At least 5 more parties came in after us. The menu isn't the longest ever, but there are several dozen choices, many of which you can order with different proteins or starches. No kbbq or kfc, no sullungtang, but otherwise you have pretty much everything you want to eat at a Korean place. Every ingredient and technique is taken to the absolute top tier in every dish we tried, so you can definitely splurge on a fancier, pricier meal here, especially if everybody wants to try lots of things. And you definitely have to share here. The tables are extra wide to make room for all the plates. Family style all the way. Banchan Nice mix of fairly conventional and even seemingly somewhat Americanized dishes along with some interesting and funky flavors. 100 year wine Worth repeats, reasonably priced, delicious and funky. Chicken wings Ordered spicy, next time I'm asking if they can go spicier. Absolutely delicious. We started to say they were worth the visit all on their own, and somebody at the next table said literally the same thing at the same time. Soft tofu soup Probably as good as any I've had anywhere. We ordered a mix of beef, kimchi, and seafood, and the brininess of the seafood might be better left out next time. Comes out at a roaring boil, after your server already dropped off a raw egg that you add right away. Fun! Jjusami $44 for multiple servings worth of food. Thinly-sliced pork belly, no excess of fat, thankfully. Nice chewy squid ("webfoot octopus"). Awesome huge flavors. They will turn the extra broth into fried rice if you like. Seafood pancake I haven't tried every single one of these in town, but I dunno how you could make a better one. Beautifully tender octopus, tons of other sea proteins, all sparkling fresh and flavorful. They have a huge staff here, I think 4 people visited just our table with all the different dishes and orders. Everything comes out when it's ready, so they just keep hitting you with food. Every single ingredient we tasted seemed like they were getting the best of everything--never even the slightest hint of off flavor or unwelcome chewiness or anything. Generous portions, all cooked exactly to temp and seasoned with great balance and explosive flavors. This kind of caring attention to detail costs a little more than many of the more-informal spots around town. It's so, so worth it. And this has to be one of the most-packed restaurants I've seen in a while, aside from maybe a place across the street from a big event or something like that. They put a lot of bean-sprouts, more than I like just because they make the sauce a little bland * Gopchang Hotpot: The beef intestine wasn't stinky like we thought. Broth was flavorful. Both sound expensive but the portions were actually huge. I didn't have either of the dish before and enjoyed them a lot. Employees were really friendly and kind and constantly checked in on us and I think that ordering the combo was perfect, we got to try the spicy jjamppong, and I would recommend the jjajang platter over the classic bowl because I feel like the seafood enhances the sauce. Worth driving over an hour to eat here! Wonderful and flavorful Korean dishes served here. Our group of four tried three of the dishes. My favorite was the beef short ribs served like a roast with super tender and juicy meat and a deep rich spicy sweet flavored sauce. Comes with pumpkin, baked potatoes, and carrot slices. Also had a steamed/boiled pork served in thin slices that you eat as cabbage wraps and an octopus and spicy pork dish. Modern interior, this place was busy! We came here got in right at opening on Saturday to not have to wait. For four people, we ordered the spicy beef kalbijjim and jjusami. We added the cheese to our kalbijjim but not our jjusami. Modoo was our go to for spicy kalbijjim before Daeho from SF opened in Bellevue and after coming back to try it here I definitely prefer Daeho's better even though this one is cheaper. Some differences when compared to Daeho is that there's giant shiitake mushrooms in it and at Daeho you can add vegetables and glass noodles. Nevertheless, the kalbijjim is still decent. Jjusami was pretty good but a bit salty. In hindsight I wouldn't order these two dishes together again because their flavor profile is very similar. I also should have mixed in the bean sprouts up top because they're not flavored. I enjoyed the texture of the squid in this dish and wouldn't mind eating this dish again. The Banchan as always is spot on and the servers are constantly doing rounds to check up on you. If I had to guess, we were asked if everything was all right at least 15 times at minimum during our meal Leftovers the next day still tasted great. I came here with a couple friends for a late dinner at 8pm, and we waited a few minutes before getting seated. They had complimentary hot tea which I really enjoyed, and the menu was quite extensive. Even though it was late at night, the restaurant was still pretty busy with other diners. My friends and I shared the army stew and a plate of pork belly. I thought they had huge portions for reasonable prices. This was my first time eating army stew. I definitely would not be able to finish the army stew by myself, but I think I could finish it with one other person and the option to bring back any leftovers. I loved the mushrooms and tteokbokki in the army stew, and it was the perfect dinner for a chilly night. The pork belly was so yummy, and I appreciated how juicy and flavorful the meat was. The banchan had a nice variety of different flavors and textures of food, which I enjoyed. The service was great, and they were able to help us out with the flame underneath the army stew when the stove wasn't lighting up. Was driving down from Anacortes after whale watching and was unsure of what to eat. Saw this restaurant on Yelp and was very unsure at first, but I cannot believe how amazing this place is. Visiting from Southern California I didn't think this restaurant would live up to the expectations but was pleasantly surprised. Food came out quickly and steaming hot. Everything was delicious. The wings were exceptional. My favorite was the spicy beef soup. Service here is amazing all of their employees are extremely tentative. The ambiance is nice and relaxing. - Great food and service - We came here with our friends around 11 am and got a seat right away. The restaurant was around 65% full when we came, and there were people waiting in the lobby around 11:30 am. They set the table as soon as we sat down, and hot barley tea was served promptly. I really like the design of the double sided menu since it's simple yet straightforward without too much stress on the brain. They also have their 10 (most popular) dishes with pictures that we appreciate. We ordered up ordering A2 japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), M5 Modoo Bossam (house special boiled pork belly), and S7 Gamja hotpot (spicy pork backbone soup with potato). Our order comes with 4 bowls of rice, so I guess both M5 and S7 are considered large dishes, which is meant for 2 people each. The side dishes came quickly and they were delicious. I enjoyed the acorn jelly, which is a less common side dish to find in the Korean restaurants that I visit more frequently in Bellevue. The kimchi, on the other hand, was just okay in my opinion. The M5 Modoo Bossam came first and it was delicious. The jalapeno and garlic definitely makes the taste more complex, and for once I was enjoying the ssamjang as well. I usually skip those but I think the wrap tastes better with it. The thing is though, they didn't give us enough napa cabbage to make the wraps, so that was a shame. The pork bellies don't taste that good by themselves when compared to kbbq pork belly, but I think adding them in the soup might be a good idea. A2 japchae was good as well, but it's really a safe dish that can't go wrong even in the comfort of your home when you cook it yourself (unless your soy sauce is expired???). S7 Gamja hotpot was huge, and it's on par with other Korean restaurants. I ate the meat and potato without the soup, and I think there is not much taste for the potato given it's a huge cut. So make sure to scoop some soup and eat your potato with it. Overall I enjoyed the dining experience, and the service was good that our tea were refilled 3 times. I think their employee to customer ratio is higher than most places, so it was easy for us to wave someone down to get anything we need. Oh, and I think they spent more money on the bathroom. There was even a makeup station with mouth wash, and the sinks look fancy. We didn't end up finishing everything, so we grabbed leftover home. The total comes to around $32/person after tip, which is reasonable given most Korean restaurants charge $25 or so for a one person soup, plus we also ordered the japchae. When we stepped out around noon on Saturday, there were around 20 people waiting in the lobby. I'd recommend coming early or else you'd get stuck in the line. read more

My personal favorite is seafood pancake, bossam, and jjusami(make sure to add cheesy fried rice at the end). Their meats are tenders, spice level is balanced, and presentation is great. I just wish they had better banchan, although their fresh house made kimchee is the best I've had compared to any other restaurant. Service is friendly which is uncommon for most Korean restaurants. They do not take reservations, and we were frustrated that when we arrived at 5:55 PM they told us we would have a 30 minute wait for a group of four people on a Friday night, but it was literally 55 minutes before we were seated. We ordered the jjusami (webfoot octopus, pork belly, and veggies), LA kalbi (short ribs and onions), the vegetable & seafood pancake, and three drinks. At the end of our meal, we asked them to make us cheesy fried rice with the leftover sauce from the jjusami. After tip, we the four of us paid $42 per person. The ambiance is a casual & family style restaurant - no tablecloths, paper napkins, and most guests are wearing jeans. The biggest drawback here is the long wait times. Service was reasonable, not impressive, but not a disappointment - service was faster than at most Seattle area restaurants, but we did find ourselves, waiting to order more food and get the check at the end. My wife and I were craving authentic Korean food and from what I read online, this is the place to go. We went a bit crazy and ordered the Spicy Fried Chicken Wings, Soft Tofu Soup, Stone Pot Bibimbap, Kimchi Pancake, Beef Bulgogi, and Jjusami (we ended up with tons of leftovers..) The service was great, but the food was just OK. The only items we felt we would really order again were the chicken wings and tofu soup; everything else was good but nothing special. The bibimbap and kimchi pancake were a bit bland, definitely lacking in flavor until they were drenched in Gochujang. The Jjusami was good, but pretty monotonic in flavor. The Bulgogi was good but the beef was a bit tough. Honestly, if it weren't for the prices being so steep (especially for a place that's out in the suburbs), I would probably give another star, but these prices felt like they warranted much better quality than what we got. Next time we'll stick to Kimchi House in Ballard which is closer, more affordable, and tastier. read more

My boyfriend and I arrived around 7:15pm-7:30pm on a Tuesday night. The wait was around 10 min so not bad! We got seated, were offered tea and water, and were provided menus. Food: we ordered 3 things: bossam ($40), octopus dish ($39), and kalbi tang ($19). The bossam was absolutely delicious! Only downside is that the cabbage provided was not proportional to the pork on the platter, so we asked for more. The waiter told us it would be an extra $5 for more cabbage. That's kind of bizarre lol. The octopus dish was yummy; it had teobokki, bean sprouts, octopus, and maybe cabbage. For Kalbi tang, my bf and I didn't think the soup was salty enough so we asked for salt. The waiter brought over the salt and pepper containers which was perfect because black pepper definitely completes a kalbi tang! While being served, our server did mix up the dishes a bit, so a cheese dish was brought to our table, but we didn't touch it yet. Get there early on the weekends because it was packed half an hour after opening, and a dozen+ people waiting in the lobby 45 minutes after opening. I had the combo E which was a stone pot bi bim bap with kalbi.
