Good food but the servers need a little training. The way to serve beignets is with cafe au lait but getting that was not an option. What we got was a coffee with a tiny pitcher of steamed milk. Ok, but really not right. The beignets were pretty good. Also, I've seen this all over and I don't understand why it happens. The server brings out the next course before clearing plates from the last course. Now the server is juggling food while we scramble to make room. If I wanted to bus my own table I would have stayed home. Back to the food. We had catfish po boys. Remoulade could have been a little more pronounced but still good. The salad was the hit. A Caesar with a surprisingly peppery dressing that was very good. Also, the croutons had a cinnamon sweetness to them. Sounds bad, tastes good. It would be a big expense, but maybe take your servers to NOLA once a year to get a feel for what they are representing. read more

I feel rushed and I don't think they like kids to much in the dining area.so I stopped going there and we'd order food to go and always (not hear and there) We'd be missing something mostly a Mac and cheese. At least 5 times in a row so I learned to check the bag and tell them there. But then again it's the staff and they look at me like I did something wrong. So I just completely stopped going there. We've been coming to Moe Joe's for several years but this was the first time since Covid. We were seated immediately and the waitress took our drink order. I got iced tea since I don't really care for how they make their Hurricanes and it was lunch time so no big deal. Hubbie ordered an Abita (their signature beer) but the waitress didn't hear him or something but she came back and said they didn't have that and offered other drafts for$3. He ordered an ipa and then we ordered lunch. We wanted cups of gumbo and a shared jambalaya and had to qualify that with the waitress... new? cute but dumb? thinking about other things??? The gumbo was delish but really filling so I asked for the jambalaya to go. I had also asked for toasted French bread to eat with the meal. She said they had only white bread but I reminded her that their sandwiches came on French bread. Oh yah okay. Now comes the bill. The draft ipa was $7 instead of the quoted price of $3. When I questioned this the waitress sent out the manager. She asked if there was a problem and I explained the beer mix up. She said yes they have Abita but that my husband ordered something they didn't have not Abita. He said he asked for Abita twice and then ordered an ipa. Turns out only certain iPas were $3. Never mentioned!!! That's when the manager got snippy with us. Beer taken off bill ... whatever! Too many great places to eat in Plainfield to be disrespected!!! read more

I waited 20 minutes for an incomplete curbside order. Ordered take-out for a 5:30pm pick-up with curbside pickup. I called when I was outside and was asked to come in for the pickup. Finally found a parking and went inside to be told they are behind and looking at 15 more minutes. At 5:50pm the Manager comes out with my order and then decides to tell me that there are no sides with online orders. I will have to wait and pay if I want sides. They are still out the "kinks" with the website. I explained that I had to come in, wait, and then not get the full order. If you want to get away to New Orleans without leaving the state of Illinois, then check this place out. It's a fun bar and restaurant that has a cool atmosphere, NOLA style! It's decked out with tons of beads and alligator heads, along with other New Orleans themed items. I only checked out the bar, so I won't have any review on the restaurant... My coworker and I were able to be seated at the bar around 6:00pm. I recommend getting there earlier to avoid the crazy loud crowds that come in later. The place will turn into a loud biker bar/college bar as the night goes on. I was very impressed with their elaborate bar and cocktail selection. Moe Joe's offers the classic NOLA drinks, such as the hurricane, but it also had a lot of other fun drinks that will make your night go wild! I tried a martini with gummy bears infused with vodka. They also have a variety of beers if you're not into hard liquor. It's a fun New Orleans styled bar, that gets louder as it gets later. A taste of NOLA! You walk in and you you definitely get a bourbon street vibe a little bit of everything decor except the music (c'mon we need some music lol). Sat at a high top table in the bar room and was pleased with it. Ordered some fried green pepper rings, a hurricane, and a Turbo Dog beer. To kick off. (Awesome pepper rings, mediocre hurricane) Our entrees consisted of crawfish po boy, blackened chicken po boy, and cup of gumbo. Po Boys were fantastic! (Pass on sweet rum sauce and go for Spicy Remoulade) Crawfish po boy was great had spicy remoulade sauce. I really enjoyed that the tomatoes were diced not sliced kept the sandwich together better. Blackened chicken was fabulous the blackn'd run was spot on and also opted for the spicy remoulade sauce. Chose blue ribbon fries for both sandwiches Gumbo. Best I have had. Definitely better than some restaurants in Nawlins. Pros: Hearty portions, fabulous food, and great atmosphere. Cons: Pricey, Sweet Rum sauce was awful, Hurricane was syrupy, and no prices on drink menu. I definitely loved Moe Joe's, I also really love Po boys on Frostwood in Peoria, IL. Went there for dinner with the husband. Neat atmosphere, cajun creole, mardi gras type theme. Pretty casual. Service matched the place, pretty casual. I had the Turkey Pirogue (pronounced pee-row) sandwich. It had cajun spiced turkey, a sort of pesto, and gouda on focaccia. The description sounded much better than the sandwich was. I expected it to be bursting with flavor. Not so much. The fresh fried chips that came with it had a good cajun spice on it, but they were really oily. I could actually see the oil sitting on them. My husband had the gumbo. They use some VooDoo beer in their gumbo. I didn't care for it. There was so much okra in it and I don't think the beer made it special at all. It just had that yeasty beer taste. My husband had tried it before and said he liked it, but he only ate half, took the rest home, and threw it away after a couple of days. I don't think he liked it as much as he remembered. They also serve some cornbread with honey/cinnamon butter. This was okay. I wish the cornbread was warm. It was cold and mediocre. Some friends and I came here on a whim, wanting something different, and WOW! This place is FANTASTIC! We started off with a couple cocktails and an onion ring appetizer. My Hurricane was really good, very balanced. I tried my friend's Chipotle Pineapple margarita; it was interesting, kinda spicy, very smokey. The onion rings were very good, and we also received an side of cornbread with a tasty cinnamon butter spread. I ordered an Alligator Po Boy. The alligator meat was nicely cooked, and the sandwich was spicy yet very tasty. The servers were extremely polite, although the service was a little slow. I've visited New Orleans and Mo Joe's really makes you feel like you're there on Bourbon St. They start you off with corn bread and cinnamon butter- so good! Go for the Crab Cake Po Boy with spicy remoulade. Only thing, I wish they had regular fries rather than chips or sweet potato fries. Jambalya was also delicious - but spicy. The food here is definitely unique and has been pretty good in my experience, which is why I am adding an extra star. The service and organization of this restaurant, on the other hand, is a completely different story. If you want a table in the evening, especially on a weekend, their system of tracking who is next in line and getting people seated is a joke. I guess this lends itself to the jester on the sign. There is a very large section of the dining room that begins to be quartered off in the evenings so that a DJ can set up. However, nobody mentions this, and you're essentially sitting there staring at multiple empty tables wondering why you're not being seated. Multiple people that were called when their table was ready were unhappy and didn't show up, and I can understand why. While you're waiting, you're basically ignored and given no updates while others who got there after you appear to get right in. Once seated, you're in for having a game of musical chairs played around you as tables are constantly rearranged and the dance floor is cleared for their DJ to setup. I had chairs carried over my head while I'm trying to eat and have a conversation. This is way too small of a venue for a bar, a restaurant, and a dance floor. As other reviews have mentioned, the additional fee added for using a credit card is silly and unexpected. There is nothing on their web site that mentions this, and I didn't see any notice inside or on their menu that this would be added. Your total is calculated on the receipt showing what it comes out to with the fee added, and above it what the cash price will be. This is a bit deceptive I may add because it assumes you're using a card and presents it as the grand total. There is a notice of the fee on the bottom of the receipt that says they "love their cash customers". Is that so? I paid with cash and the waitress pocketed the extra loose change! The fee I would have been charged was almost a wash at that point had I just used a credit card. If a business is going to round, they had better do it in my favor, else I expect to get everything back. This is more on principle than anything, but do they think customers aren't going to notice this? Come on now... This is 2019, and the majority of people do not carry cash. How frustrating it must be for those that have a large order only to find out at the end that there is this surprise fee. They also have the audacity to add an automatic gratuity on top of this if the party is large enough. All in all, this was not the most enjoyable experience, and I'd rather cook at home next time. read more

Once seated, nobody approached us for 15 min until my girlfriend finally asked if anyone was serving the area we were sitting. Drinks took another 15 min. Bread was brought out to us, but no napkins or silverware. My girlfriend finally got up and took silverware off and an unused table. Alligator bites were over cooked. Overall, pretty bad experience. My hubby and I plus another couple ate at Moe Joes Friday night. Our friends who have been several times recommended it. So it was our first time and definitely will not be our last!! I had the best seafood jambalaya ever. The sauce was amazing, the blackened shrimp and scallops were so flavorful and the rice was cooked perfectly. We all shared the corn fritters and they were to die for. My husband had a chicken dish served over rice and he loved it! The cocktails were amazing too! Our server was very attentive and the atmosphere was very chill. One minor complaint is the cornbread served before the meal could have been bigger as there were 4 of us. New Orleans is one of my favorite places and I have been craving authentic cajun food but when someone told me that a place so close to home had some great cajun food I was a bit skeptical. I am so happy that we tried it out! We came in and it was like stepping onto Bourbon street (minus the strong stench of stale beer that New Orlean's has sometimes). The decor is spot on and captures the magic of NoLa. We sat over on the bar side and started with a couple of bloody mary's. Our waitress, Jen, was super friendly and very attentative even though the place was packed. She gave us a list and a pen to build our own bloody's and the options were limitless. I settled on a pretty basic one, and it was delicious! Before dinner they give you a little loaf of corn bread that is very good and goes great with pretty much anything on the menu. For our meals, I got the shrimp etouffe ( 1/2 lb. of shrimp sauteed in our onion pepper sauce served with white rice) OH. MY. YUM. It was incredible! Buttery and tasty and a large portion. It was the hearty meal that I needed on a cold day like that one. It was so freaking good. My husband ordered the Alligator Sauce Piquante (Blackened alligator tail and grilled Andoulle sausage in a tomato pepper saute, served over rice) and he very much enjoyed his as well. Both dishes had great spice and was piping hot. There was enough food for us both to take home left overs for a whole 'nother meal. We ordered delivery from here 9 times in 2020 and so far 3 times in 2021. I'm sad to say this last time might have been our last. I tend not to have my first review of a place we frequent be after a bad experience, perhaps that's the reason I didn't go with the one star. Quality and quality control have been slipping as of late. From missing ingredients like the dressing on the Caesar salad dinner, or not following order instructions, to putting the wrong sauce on the poor boy sandwich. I've only been at Moe's for lunch and it's never crowded. This perplexes me. This place is total Louisiana goodness (I should know I used to date a guy from LA and his mom would ship us food to eat every week.) One of my co workers ordered the blackened catfish and he raved about it. I don't think I've had anything bad on the menu. The bar is in a separate area and they have a stage set up in the basement for a band. If the weather is nice sit outside and people watch. MoeJoe's was a bit disappointing, to say the least. If the food and experience matched the price tag of their menu items perhaps I'd be a bit more forgiving. But I just can't bring myself to give four stars on our initial experience. We arrived and stood in the doorway until the hostess showed up about two minutes later. After asking how many in our party, she told us it would be a moment as she had to go clean a table for us. Don't they have buss boys to handle that? She came back a few moments later to seat us- at the table right by the kitchen/restroom hallway. Ugh. We browsed the menu for a few moments until our waitress showed up. She was a super sweet, friendly girl. She asked us what we wanted to drink but then noticed we weren't given a drink menu. She snatched one off of an adjacent table and gave us a moment to look it over. I went with my standard beer as I wasn't here to have my dinner in liquid form. Husband decide to try the do-it-yourself Bloody Mary bar. He was pretty disappointed, as they only garnishes available were olives and pickles. Maybe other options were available earlier in the day and were put away as the dinner crowd arrived. We chose the Corn Crusted Alligator Tail as our appetizer, which did not disappoint. The jalapeno honey sauce served for dipping was so flavorful and had just the right amount of spice. I was torn on making a decision for my entree, so I settled on the Muffaletta and my husband picked the Pirogue. The flavors of the muffaletta are good but I wasn't crazy about the bread (they use a tomato focaccia). Don't get me wrong, I love that kind of bread but not for a muffaletta. I subbed fried okra for my side and was a bit disappointed with it; many of the pieces must have been harvested too late as they were woody, tough, and stringy. After literally choking down a few pieces and attempting to discretely removing the strings from between my teeth I gave up on them entirely. M wasn't too crazy about the Pirogue and didn't really touch his ribbon fries. The drinks and food were brought out in an acceptable amount of time. It may have been a bit slow but it was late Sunday afternoon so where the hell were we rushing off to, anyway? I can certainly see why it would be frustrating during peak hours, though. The positives? Again, the waitress- she was wonderful and didn't go MIA for extended periods of time. I enjoyed the decor; yes it's kitschy but I didn't feel that it was over the top. The atmosphere was enjoyable except for the occasional bumping and jarring from patrons and waitstaff try to access the back of the restaurant. I'd consider going back to try a few other items but in the alternative I'll stick to Heaven on Seven, Pappadeaux, or New Orleans proper if trip #3 is in the cards. read more

Moe Joe's is centrally located in a little picturesque town with patrons sporting wife-beaters with obvious minimal efforts extended on dressing to impress; even I enjoyed the non-competitive spills this evening though. The mood was fun and flirtatious, with a very Bourbon Street-esque flair (sans the smell). And our server was absolutely delightful. Sticking to fish, I ordered up the ahi tuna steak with haricots verts sides, and garlic cheese mashed taters, on the recommendation of our server. Our food arrived timely, perfectly prepared, and well-portioned, but far from obnoxious. The only thing we were lacking this perfect early Sunday evening was a live Zydeco band from The Big Easy, I, a dancing partner (more importantly a partner who likes to dance), and a mardi gras mask to hide behind so I can dance around worry-free and shamelessly. read more
