So me and the wife were shopping in the downtown Plainfield on Lockport street and needed to get some food, so we decided to visit Moe Joe's and have some lunch. The music was great, the Bar had anything your heart desired and the food was better than tavern food. I used to love going to this place. The last time we went a week ago the food was horrible and service was just so so. Ordered turtle soup and it was ice cold, the alligator bites were over cooked and 2 people in our party ordered shrimp poor boys and the buns were burnt to a crisp. 45 min wait. Fine. Gave the hostess my # and told her we would wait at the bar 50 mins later no call. Went to ask how much longer and they said "we called you but you didn't answer so you were taken off the list". Never had any missed calls or voicemail. Should of left then. Finally get menus off the bartender. Order. Pretty sure she forgot to put our order in bc it took over 30 mins for the appetizer and two entrees to arrive. Server drops half the appetizer order on the ground. Rice was cold. Sausage chewy. Chicken in the jambalaya was good but that's about it. Better options downtown Plainfield. read more

FOOD: Just ok. We tried the blackened catfish and fried catfish with sides. The fish was average and the sides were too. The corn on the cob was very horrible it looked like the dried corn people put out for decoration. We think the crows got to it before they served it. The other sides, beans and rice, sweet potato fries were good. We also ordered alcoholic drinks but had to have them sent back as they just were not good. One of the drinks tasted like pure syrup. SERVCE: Waitress was friendly and timely and we were seated right away. However they forgot to send an additional item we ordered so we asked them to remove it from bill, which they did. My wife and I have been coming to this location for several years. Normally we are very happy with the food and service. Today, not so much. The hostess was friendly, welcoming and seated us immediately. It took a while for our waitress to arrive, welcome us and offer us drinks. Our drink order was incorrect and the corn bread provided was dried out. It took our meals an inordinately long time to arrive. We ordered the gumbo and it was predominately a ton of rice on top of a little gumbo. The rice served as a side dish was overcooked. We requested drink refills well before our meals arrived. We didn't receive them until after the meals were done. The service time was in the late afternoon and the restaurant was not that busy. read more

Giant shrimp po boy was awesome. Bread soft but crispy. Remalaude was yummy but other sauce option did not apoeal to me. We also ordered a muffaletta. The move falada generally comes on a piece of focaccia that is at least 9 to 12 in. I think this is better called a mini muffaletta. And was quite expensive for what you paid for it. The sweet potato fries we're good. The move a lot it was good but way too small. These sandwiches are generally meant to be shared and that is definitely not what you get here. The place is very cute. Beads all over. Waitresses outfits are pretty darn skimpy. My partner said it reminded him of Hooters. But that's fine . just want to put that out there. The prices were a bit high for what you got. But I guess they get away with it because it's a specialty restaurant I suppose. Very pleasantly surprised. It seems like everywhere we've gone recently we've encountered short staffing and poor service. We were greeted immediately by a very cheerful young lady. She commented on the impending storm on it's way. Our server Samantha D was very patient with us and very good at following up. The drink menu is very intimidating because it is so large. We figured it out. We started with amazing fried green tomatoes. The four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals which included the gumbo, seafood jambalaya, Cajun pork chop, Blackened shrimp Po boy, blackened Alligator. Sides we enjoyed- fried okra, mac and cheese, yumbo (gumbo over mashed potatoes. Really good food and very attentive service. read more

Homemade chips piled on to "make" the plate look full....and charged extra for kids beverage ($2.70)! Waitress was slow as molasses in January & February! Just ridiculous! NO MORE Moe Joes! They have a $1 oyster special every Monday. Along with other specials during the week. Thursday's special includes selected martinis! The business owner is always so friendly and bright. The chairs are so uncomfortable it's impossible for me to sit there for more than a short time. The prices are crazy high in my opinion. They say on the menu that a burger requires a 30 minute wait. This place was hopping on Fat Tuesday! It was a fun place to come for dinner. All the waitresses were in Mardi Gras outfits and make up. The hostess said there was an hour wait for a table, but it turned out to be less than that. Since the bar area was crowded, we ducked out and went next door to wait for our table. We were seated in the dining area downstairs next to the fireplace. Unfortunately, the fireplace didn't generate that much heat and I was cold sitting by the door because it's very drafty. Every time the main door opened upstairs, a new draft of cold wind would come down right by our table. However, if you were at a table that's away from the door near the bar area, it was pretty hot on that side. That's probably why they leave the door open to cool off the area. The food was pretty good. We had alligator bites, gumbo, alligator po boy and jerk chicken. The alligator bites aren't really my thing. They didn't taste like much and needed a lot of sauce. The gumbo was really good and hearty. A cup for $7 comes topped with a ball of rice. Mix it all together first and dive in! It had just the right amount of spiciness. The $25 rest.com certificate put a small dent in our hefty bill for four, but it was all worth it. read more

We went there with a group of about 35 the day after Fat Tuesday. This was previously arranged with them for at least a month. When we arrived the gentleman at the door was completely unaware we were supposed to be there and looked astonished. No preparation had been made and we all stood around while they scurried to put tables together (someone must have finally told them we were supposed to be there). They put a line of 2 or 3 tables along the center and 4 or 5 tables along one wall with chairs on all sides. WE had to move the tables along the wall further from the wall to be able to get in and out on the wall side. Then they passed out silverware wrapped in cloth napkins. Several of the guests commented that the knives were not clean (possibly the dishwasher). They took drink orders and offered an additional special drink menu. No prices were listed. Water was not set out until after the drink orders were taken. They "apologized " for not being ready saying the staff was "really" tired from the "great " time their customers had the night before, that they were packed and stayed very late cleaning up. This place has been here through many Mardi Gras celebrations and should know how to prepare. When the drinks came it was "Who ordered the .....". Food orders were then taken and delivered in the same "Who ordered " way. There was a very long delay between ordering and receiving the food. We had been there almost a hour before any food arrived and there was never little cornbread loaves brought out as is their normal procedure. Some guests who ordered soup had their entrees delivered before the soup. The smaller group of tables didn't get their orders until many at the other tables were well into eating their lunch. Some of the sandwich buns were partially over toasted and the contents were dry from the over cooking. They took orders for items containing oysters and came back to the tables requesting those guests to order something else because they "didn't know they ran out of oysters the night before." If you are a Cajun restaurant and have a yearly Fat Tuesday celebration you should know how to order and prepare for both the event and the next day. The prices were extremely high for the quality, quantity, service and location. The wait staff number was not properly adjusted to the number of people causing us to eventually have only 1 or occasionally 2 waitresses rushing back and forth which was certainly not their fault. When the bills came there were up charges for items without having previously informing the customer. They have a policy of not giving separate checks but an exception was made in this case which was previously agreed to. However several checks were wrong and had to be redone; one twice before it was correct. The camaraderie was lovely but the restaurant experience was certainly not. read more

Tried to stop by for lunch. We waited by the door to be seated for about five minutes or so and watched as all three employees just look at us. One of them would come by and just fix the menus, not say anything and walk away. Not a single hello, or welcome, just a bunch of looks our way and nothing. Terrible. I heard so much about this place and I finally had a chance to go! Hubby and I originally had our mouths set for tacos until an incoming text message came through and said you MUST go to Moe Joe's - ok fine we detoured and came here. Wow...service was AMAZING. The hostess was super nice and greeted/seated us quickly. Moments later, our server, Raymie, came by and greeted us as well. Still mezmorized by the menu, I didn't even think about drinks - I ordered a Watermelon margarita and my husband ordered a Blue MF. Both drinks were extremely strong which was an A in both of our books!!!!!! We ordered apps and boy they could have been our main dishes - they were so large. We ordered the jerk wings, fried crawfish and the crab cakes (don't judge us). SMH - soooooooo freakin good. For the main course (yes we were still ordering food), we got the fried catfish po boy sandwich and the fried catfish dinner platter. My husband didn't like the blackeyed peas that came with it, but I thoroughly enjoyed them. They had bits of onion and pickles (well it tasted like pickles) throughout. They were good to me so next time, it's probably a side I will order. The entire place made you feel like you were in New Orleans - theres a cute light post inside that says "Bourbon St." I love it here and will come back....SOON!! When I lived closer to this restaurant, we were always here! We knew the food was good and the service was fast and friendly. Wanted to come back and get some takeout, and was disappointed with the service we received. I had ordered the seafood gumbo and the chicken po boy around 2:30 pm and with them telling me it would be ready for pick up around 3:30. I knew it was a Sunday they were probably busy, so I was ok with waiting the hour. But when I arrived to pick it up, the order hadn't even been started and my food wasn't ready until 4 pm. It was really disappointing that even when I arrived to tell them I was here to pick up my order, no one greeted me, asked if I needed anything or If I was picking up food for ten minutes. My family and I used to frequent this restaurant a lot, and it saddens us that the service simply wasn't at all what we were used to. read more

If your coming in for drinks I highly suggest!! They have super good drinks!!! As far a food wise...everything had a super weird taste to it...maybe they needed to change their oil..but the fried pickles really threw us off and they weren't good at all.... This is my third visit to Moe Joe's. The first two were 3 to 4 star experiences. This visit was a one star , so I gave the extra star for the first two visits. My husband and I have completely opposite palates, and Moe Joe's menu has a good variety of choices to please both our tastes. The waitress was training another girl, and they were both very pleasant. I had questions and she answered them fine. However, the first issue was the painful amount of time it took for our entrees to come out. It was about an HOUR for a burger and a chicken platter to finally arrive. The kicker was that the sides were luke warm , and the burger was well-done ( ordered medium -rare). My husband was starving by this point and said he didn't want to wait... and that at least it wasn't dry. I did let the waitress know only because it was so extremely overcooked. I feel the kitchen needs to know or they can't correct an issue. It was not like it was a slight overcook. She said we should have said something and they would have recooked it, but again it had already been an hour. My husband does not like spicy food. He ordered the ribbon fries/chips with his burger. I saw by the look on his face that he would not be eating them. Beware...the seasoning is very spicy. Heat level should always be displayed on menu (especially at a cajun place). If it was it was not clear. I had ordered the same meal the last visit...Chicken platter upgraded both sides to brussels sprouts and red beans and rice. ($4 upgrade fee). Not only were the sides luke warm but the red beans and rice had virtually no sauce or flavor. I was very dissappointed because the last time they were perfect. Consistency is not their strong suit. I ordered buffalo wings to-go when I placed my dinner order. $12.95 for a few buffalo wings...no sides???? *note...menu says $10.95* When the bill came I didn't even look at the bill and handed her a credit card. When she came back I noticed something on the receipt I have never seen before. I almost didn't notice because it's where they usually ask you to review them or something similar. It stated that "Due to rising costs" they are charging credit card users an ADDITIONAL 3.99% !?!? Their prices are not cheap to begin with. BUT , WHY DIDN'T SHE TELL ME WHEN I HANDED HER THE CARD ? She saw that I didn't even look at the bill. Also, there are no signs displayed anywhere. I had cash and for sure would have paid with cash to avoid an additional $3 charge! The bill was $73 for two people and one appetizer to-go...plus the $15 cash tip = Almost $90 for what was supposed to be a quick moderately priced meal. Summary: Overcooked burger with inedible ribbon fries. LONG wait even on a slow day. Inconsistent food taste and temperature. EXTREMELY expensive for what you get. *PS...bathroom was absolutely disgusting! read more

Love the concept for the bar. I'm a huge fan of NOLA and visit about 3-4 times a year so I was pretty excited to have dinner and some drinks, I even wore my favorite NOLA shirt to go. I went by myself and sat at the bar. I ordered the jambalaya and I really really wanted to love it but sadly it just tasted like a pile of salt. I tried one of their featured cocktails called 'Give me some beads' it was supposed to come with beads but the bartender never gave them to me The people next to me ordered some wings that looked and smelled really good. If I ever go back that's what I'll order. All in all I enjoyed the atmosphere and the decor but wasn't impressed with the food or drinks. read more
