I was worried about the bread being too hard because it looks crunchy almost crouton like but it was so soft with a hint of garlic. The short rib loco moco was delicious and tender. Melts in your mouth! Highly recommend it with fried rice. Heard they have good scones. Never got to try them since it was already sold out. We went on a Sunday in June at 11AM. A great location with lots of parking available. We went close to when they opened and were able to get seated within 5 minutes. However, the waitlist can get considerably longer depending on what time you arrive. The staff was very helpful with answering our questions and checked on us often. Updating my review from 2014 to 2026 and 12 years. Moena is still around serving pretty much the same menu they did back then and its still good. They are not as busy as in past years with other nearby eateries opening up but is a good thing for us as it is easier to get a table now. There used to be a dining room nazi where he would direct you sternly where to sit and be the only person taking orders. Notice he is no longer there and they have cordial friendly servers. I've found my new favorite at Moena. They make the best pancakes anywhere and dont let the name "short stack" fool you. It is actually one huge round pancake that fills the entire plate and larger than my face which is big! This pancake comes with your choice of breakfast meats and definitely pick the coconut syrup which just totally kicks it up. The texture an fluffiness of the pancake just oohhh.... There's lot of parking. When you get there sign in the book. It can be a wait but it's okay because the food is delicious. I actually went twice and finally doing a review. Sadly I can't remember what I ordered my other visits, but today I ordered the veggie omelette with no mushrooms and brown rice. I also ordered the chicken sausage on the side. I also asked for tapatio and it was soooo delicious! My friends and I shared the lilikoi mochi pancake which I think was just a special they were having and it was soo bomb!! Moena Cafe is alright. Service is okay and atmosphere feels very lax and comfy. The food for me was not bad but not great either. Loco moco I felt was too bland. Pancakes looked amazing from the top but when I flipped it over and ate my first bite it tasted burnt and sure enough the bottom on the pancakes were burnt. All in all in okay spot not to sure if I'd come back. So when my friends suggested here for brunch one Monday morning I jumped at the chance. It was busy a little after 10am but we got a table after a very short wait. They do not take ressies. The benedict was a slice of ham, 2 eggs with the hollandaise sauce on toasted bread. My friend commented that the eggs were more cooked than runny. Adding spinach or avocado and sides of potato or rice will cost you extra. I liked my savory vegetable crepe with roasted bell peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach and cheese. I really enjoyed it. Very tasty and flavorful. I'd get it again. It came with small slices of avocado and a slice of pineapple and strawberry. IMO, I think my dish was a better value than the eggs benedict. Coffee was $6 and the milk came heated, a nice touch. Little steep for coffee IMO. It was a nice brunch anyway- the food was good, service was very nice. read more

Arrived on a Saturday morning, put our names on the list and proceeded to take a seat and watch the vendors set up their shops. It wasn't long before someone was showing us to our seat. It's small space holding about 40-50 max. The staff are all attentive and service was great. The menu selection was diverse enough that some of the group had lunch and some had breakfast. All in all the food was enjoyable for everyone and portions were adequate. Location offers lots of free parking and the wait time is not crazy. Perfect timing because the kids were starving and cranky Got a delicious banana chantilly pancakes that were huge for the table. Meh. Would not come back. I had to sit across from some religious saying painted on the wall. That was very uncomfortable to me when I am trying to eat and they are trying to push that stuff. They were cleaning in the back and the super strong scent of the cleaning product wafted into the dining room. My food tasted like cleaning solution. Even when they have seats inside, they still make you sign your name outside and stand for a bit in the sun. All in all, there are much better places to get brunch. The food and service wasn't as good as usual. The bacon was very burned. I tried pushing through the first two pieces even putting syrup on them to try and cover the dried burned taste but the third was black and I couldn't get the charcoal taste out of my mouth. When I brought it up to the server Hana for a replacement there was no acknowledgment or apology she just repeated my request for a new piece of bacon. The banana Chantilly pancakes were very delicious though but I still prefer the crepes with cream cheese and blueberries. Service in general was slow today with me being sat down at my table but then not given a menu for 5 minutes even though othered were given menus by Hana before they even sat down. It was busy but it didn't seem like the server prioritized well. Not sure I'll be back honestly. It's a nice local breakfast/brunch/lunch spot. The inside is always clean and tidy. Staff is attentive and food is served promptly without much delay despite how busy they get. Of all our good/great brunch spots they have the best coffee but it is on the $$$-$$$$ sides of coffee. I believe a plain latte runs about $8-9. Plain coffee is $7+ with 1 refill. Highlights: Hands down the best Açaí bowl for the money on island. Super chilled covered in fresh fruit and granola and honey. Big enough to share. The best short rib loco moco I have found on island. Add the fried rice, it's worth it. It'll be a two meal day, and keep those hunger pains subdued for at least 6-7 hours if you can finish it. Hubs likes the MC Breakfast. Simple breakfast staples in that one. Eggs meat and starch. He adds a side of pancakes and the ciabatta roll. The Avacado toast is good with a salad built over the top of it. They have over medium eggs down to a science. There's never been a moment where we have been served over the two years we have been coming where we wondered if they got a new cook... consistent in quality. Their produce is consistent in fresh quality ingredients. Pancake specials are hub capped size but hit or miss in my opinion, and seem to change monthly. Family friendly atmosphere. Considering this was in the middle of nowhere (non tourist location), this was really really good. We were looking for traditional brunch items with a twist of Hawaiian flavor and this place was SPOT ON. Service was great and people were really nice. We didn't have a reservation so we waited about 15 mins around 10am on a Sunday. For drinks, we tried their Macadamia nut coffee (btw, the parking lot is surround by these trees) and their home brew coffee. The home brew is actually an espresso + hot water (Americano) and you get to have 1 free refill! For food, we tried Kalua benedict and it was sOOo good. The pull pork was very moist and with the egg yolk, it was perfection! We also had the loco moco with short ribs; the gravy was a little on the salty side, but with the rice then it was perfect. Other people that were less explorative tried their Belgium waffle with blueberries (local and super fresh), potato hash and veggie omelette. No one complain and everything was good. Also, the beauty away from tourist spots, the meals become a lot more affordable. Highly recommend if you have car during your stay at Oahu. read more

This may be a case of high expectations. Walking through Koko Marina Center decided I can finally eat at Moena Cafe. I've heard many good things about it and ranked very high in Yelp. I was able to get in at about 2pm. No line but, sat at the bar. Sitting at the bar is fine with me. I'm used to sitting on bars. Lol. The staff is very friendly, courteous, and attentive. The restaurant is not very big but nice and clean. I ordered the short-rib sandwich and potato salad. Yup, they don't have potato salad. I got a green salad (they seem to be health conscious). Totally, my bad. The waitress was so nice and got me some chips. Service above and beyond. Mahalo. I thought the salad was a little flat (I like greens that I can poke with a fork). The dressing was good tho. The sandwich(with brioche buns), I thought, was a little dry. Maybe a little more garlic aioli or caramelized onions (or mayo) would have been good. Oh it was so tasty the crab meat was just so tender and juicy. It has a lot of flavor we didn't want to finish it. Since it was a small location we did have to wait for over 30 minutes to get seated.
