This place was suggested by my coworker's cousin who also attended the wedding in Hawaii. I was driving along the scenic route on the east side and this was on the way so my friend and I stopped here for lunch. The place is small, seats about 25 people. We came around lunch time so there was a bit of a wait. 15-20 minutes. Their populars are listed on the board outside: banana pancakes, corned beef hash brown, and short rib loco mono with fried rice. I got loco moco two days before so I opted out and ordered hash brown. My friend ordered the loco moco and the pancakes to share for dessert. The hash brown was just a regular meal in my opinion. Although, I actually expected the shredded look type of beef, I was surprised to get chunks. The potatoes were soft and mixed with the beef. I tried my friend's loco moco and I liked it. She ordered the better meal out of us two. The fried rice specifically! Crunchy! Sweet with the gravy! Also good on it's own! the short rib was juicy and tender! The pancakes were delicious! the vanilla syrup was drizzled at the right amount to at least enjoy the pancake's taste and texture. Very soft. The toasted coconut added the crunch. I love crunchy! My coworker's cousin actually recommended to get the french toast, instead, we got the recommended from the board. I'm not disappointed by our choice though! This was my first time here and I was pleaseantly surprised. The place is clean and the staff is friendly. I had the Mo'egga, which is their take on egg benedicts. It was a artichoke spread with poached eggs on top or regular bread. My dad had their cornbeef hash, which is their signature dish, but looked liked they used can cornbeef instead of fresh cornbeef. No worries. My mom had the veggie omelet and wish the it was cooked a little longer in able to melt the cheese better. Breakfast is served all day. Lunch is served starting at 11am. One of the few breakfast places in Hawaii Kai. We went in at about 11 am on a Monday. The place was almost full but we were immediately greeted and seated. The waiter took out order within 3-4 minutes and our food came out quite quickly. The Mo Egga $12.50 - artichoke spread on garlic toast topped with poached eggs- was quite disappointing. Didn't taste much artichoke spread and the poached eggs were way overcooked to the point of hard boiled eggs. The Fresh Corned-beef Hash $13.95- was better but the sunny side up eggs were also way overcooked. However the corned beef has was quite good. Made with diced potatoes and onions. Not your typical corned beef hash where the potatoes and corned beef are mashed and shredded then mixed together. Service was excellent all the way through. A bit disappointed that a breakfast place can't make eggs correctly. Maybe we just caught them on bad day. The menu does have a lot of unique and interesting items. We called in a party of 4 at 905a to put our name on the waitlist. We arrived at 930a and were told it was a 20 minute wait. We watched as they seated numerous parties of 2 before seating us at 1030a. The supposed 20 minute wait was an hour. We would've gone somewhere else had we known it was an hour wait. Very disappointing and disorganized seating process. Recommend time limit for seated parties so you can better gauge the wait time. When we were finally seated, the server was super nice and friendly. We ordered right away as we had an hour to look at the menu. They got my cousin's egg order wrong. She wanted over-medium eggs for her fried rice because runny yolk is how you eat this! The eggs came scrambled but we were starving so she ate it anyway. My Portuguese sausage omelet was delicious. The eggs were fluffy and they made my sausage crispy like I asked. Coffee was good too and coffee is important. The food here is good. I would recommend takeout but even that process seemed a little disorganized as I watched people come to pick up orders. I've always wanted to try Moena Cafe, so when I slept over at my friends place over in Hawaii Kai, I couldn't wait to have an early breakfast here! Disappointing to say the least... A party of two sat and drank their water, waiting to order (most likely). No one came to them so they got up and left the restaurant! That's the kind of thing my mom would do... better not take her here! Now let's get to the food. Well, wait a sec. Coffee: overpriced. But as is any other caffeinated beverages at lunch places. Stick to Mcdonalds, people! Anyways, I got the fried rice and eggs (over easy, my go-to). My friend recommended it and said it was delicious. One word: UNDERWHELMING! Honestly, I could have probably made better fried rice. And I don't even cook. It just lacked flavor. (If you're looking for some real ono fried rice you should visit Bogart's over by Diamond Head. You'll never love another fried rice as much as theirs!) I split the banana chantilly pancake which looked and sounded amazing. Again, underwhelming. The frosting thing was yummy, but there's only enough for the top layer so the bottom pancake is dry. We probably should have asked for syrup. The overall consistency of the pancake was gummy. Cute little breakfast place that my cousin recommended after we tackled the Makapu'u lighthouse trail bright and early. We got there around 8:45 on a Sunday morning and the wait for our party of five was 40 minutes. After realizing how small the restaurant was inside, it explained the lengthy wait time. There are only about 10 tables! Service here was great. Our waitress was super friendly and accommodating, even when I requested something really strange: all the contents of an omelette, not as an omelette, but just sauteed. I don't care for eggs, but the Hawaiian omelette (kalua pig, green onions, cheese, and oions) sounded so good! I opted to upgrade to fried rice for an additional $3. I was hesitant at first because I thought $3 was a lot to upgrade for one scoop of fried rice, but it was deeeelicious. It definitely did not disappoint. My "omelette" minus the eggs was super tasty. I loved that the kalua pig was not overly salty. It was very tender and flavorful. Among the rest of my family, they ordered "MC" breakfast, fresh fish benedict, and the short rib loco moco. Koko Marina Shopping Center. Tons of parking. Got there at 8:45. We put our names down. There was a short ten minute or so wait. It was packed, so it took awhile for our order to be taken and for our food to arrive.  Our waiter was very friendly and went through the menu very thoroughly. I got the Belgian waffles with choice of fruit. I chose bananas. The waffle was too soft. Maybe it was undercooked. I am used to crispy and more crunchy Belgian waffles. This one had the consistency of a pancake. I would not get it again. I tried and liked the fried rice. Maybe I will get that next time. Nice place and very different from Kaila's in Market City. The atmosphere is calm and you don't feel crowded. It's a small place but beautifully decorated. The food is good and those pancakes are huge!! They are meant to be shared. Friend had the pancakes and he managed to eat all the fruit and a fourth of his two huge pancakes before giving up! However, it should be mentioned that he also order a side meat which he ate and that was another hefty portion. The server warned him...... Had the corned beef hash which was different. It had the elements of hash but separately cooked. The corned beef was cut into bite sized chunks like the potatoes and cooked together but separate. Moena cafe was a small cafe located near the Koko Marina consolidated theaters. It was also next to the Zippy's. There was plenty of parking since it shared one big lot with other food places and stores. We arrived around 11 am and we waited for about an hour outside before getting seated. This was quite a long wait but thankfully there was shade. They also had four chairs outside for people to sit on while waiting but they were occupied. There was about 3 other parties waiting to be seated when we got there and another 2 parties arrived after us. Very busy! Although masks aren't required outdoors anymore, I wish they enforced mask wearing for those who sat immediately outside the restaurant, including those sitting in the chairs. It was a bit uncomfortable to see a couple sitting in the chairs without masks, next to a stranger who had her mask on. It was also common to see people walking in and out of the cafe without their mask on, which was surprising. After we got seated, the waitress came to grab us drinks and five minutes after that, she took our order. The food took about 30 minutes to come out. The three of us all got the traditional egg benedict, each with our own addictions (avocado/potatoes/fried rice). These dishes were absolutely beautiful!!! The eggs sat on top of hickory-smoked ham and a delicious slice of roasted garlic bread. The Hollandaise sauce was impeccable. Hands down the BEST egg benedict that I've tried. My boyfriend agrees! We finished our dishes within 10 minutes! I got a side of potatoes, which I personally loved to help soak up the extra egg yolk and Hollandaise sauce. I was also able to get salt, pepper, and ketchup on the side. I personally needed the extra salt and pepper but the potatoes in general were great!! My boyfriend got fried rice on the side. He said it was good, but not the best fried rice that he tried (the egg benedict was the star of the dish and made it worth it). If I was eating the food alone, I would give it a 5/5 easily! Location/Parking: The restaurant is located near Zippys in the shopping center near Koko Head. Parking is plentiful but parking fills up quickly during the lunch rush hours. Wait Times: The wait wasn't that long. We waited 10 minutes on a Saturday around 11am. Food: Our party of four ordered the ribeye Loco Moco with Fried Rice, Crab Benedict and a short stack of Banana Chantilly Pancakes. The ribeye Loco Moco was good but I wished they gave more meat. The Crab Benedict had fresh crab, hollandaise sauce and French bread. It was unique tasting and tasty. The Banana Chantilly Pancake was huge. It was good! The food in general was great!!! My husband and I were visiting Oahu and some family took us to the other Moena Cafe location and so we thought we'd stop by the location to see the breakfast/lunch menu.. I wasn't disappointed, but I also wasn't impressed. The place was definitely smaller, compared to the other location, but it wasn't too bad. We were able to get seated right away. As far as the food goes, it was okay. I had the short rib loco moco and the meat and rice ratio was a little off. I had way too much rice leftover by the time I finished the short rib. I did really like how soft the short rib was. My husband on the other hand had the Fresca panini sandwich and he said that it was okay. I didn't really get much other than, "it was okay." I'm not too sure if it was just because we had such a great experience at the Kapolei location and had the same expectation for this location, but I'm not too sure if I'd come back to this location. read more

Moena Cafe is located at the Koko Marina in Hawaii Kai. There's a lot of parking. I recommend coming as early as possible because the wait time can be really long. The food was so good! My wife and I got the cinnamon roll pancake (it's huge so petite stack is best unless you're super hungry), kalua pig Benedict, and the short rib loco moco. The kalua pig Benedict came on a slice of French bread and the hollandaise sauce just soaked it up just nicely. The kalua pig is just salty enough while the egg just drip over after you cut it open... so good! The short rib loco moco is recommended to get with fried rice. The gravy was very flavorful. The cinnamon roll pancake is as the name says like a cinnamon roll! Lol but yeah so good. We didn't try anything else because after all that, we were stuffed. The service there was amazing. The server of ours was really nice and made sure our drinks were refilled in a timely manner. Walked on in for the first time for a bite to eat while visiting Hawaii for the first time. My wife picked Moena Cafe and I would definitely eat here again! We actually stopped by the next day. But they were closed. I think we got there after hours. Back to the food! My wife had the Moco Loco plate and I had the Pulled Pork sandwich. My sandwich was delicious! Right amount of bbq sauce, brioche bun was toasted perfectly and the pulled pork...oh the pulled pork! So good! Perfectly cooked and seasoned! I ate that sandwich pretty quick because I couldn't stop eating it! The Loco Moco was also very good! Good amount of gravy, the beef patty was fresh and I ended up eating what she doesn't and I could have ordered another Loco Moco and polished it off! But I used some restraint. I came here after hiking to Makapu'u Lighthouse. We were able to get seated immediately at around 9 AM, as there were several open tables at the time we got there (on a Saturday). This was fantastic, as our other choice for breakfast would have been Cinnamon's, where the wait is much longer. I ordered the MC Breakfast with link sausage and potatoes along with a side of bacon, POG, and regular coffee. The coffee was excellent, and $2.50 with one free refill. The POG came in the cutest glass cups. The MC breakfast was fantastic. Everything tasted super fresh and high quality. Much better than a similar plate that you would get from say---Zippy's. Oh, and I also had a $3.00 side pancake. The pancake was amazing! It really made me want to try the cinnamon roll pancake next time, or the banana chantilly pancake (which wasn't on the menu at the time--I guess it's a special). I would definitely come back! The service was really good. I had an Asian male server and he was great. I never had to wait around for refills and I never felt that our table was neglected. This place is really upscale on the inside with everything from the presentation, to the glasses, to the table settings/decor, but the prices are NOT upscale. Our bill for 2 was only $22! Of course, like all the other brunch places on the island, expect there to be a wait. I've come here 3 times so far and I've gotten something different each time! I've tried their Eggs Benedict, Pineapple Sausage Hash, the MC Breakfast, and of course the Banana Chantilly Pancakes. The food is good but extremely small portions for the price. I wasn't sure if I wanted to give this place a 3 or a 4 because of the slow service and small portions. The first time I came here, I was super disappointed the Eggs Bene didn't come with any sides. For around $14 just for Eggs Bene, pretty steep. The hash wasn't what I expected either. It looked yummy but was eh. It was diced sausage and potato with an egg on it. The pieces were so tiny, it was pretty difficult to eat cause you could only get so much on your fork at once. Most recently I got the MC Breakfast, fried rice, 2 eggs, and breakfast meat of your choice. It was a lot of food but not sure it was worth $10.50. I seriously only come here for those pancakes! They are huge and worth sharing. At $9 for just one pancake, eh it's definitely a splurge but hey! If you share it amongst 3 ppl like we did, it's not so bad. This breakfast place was perfect after a long hike up the Koko Head Trail. Definitely come here with a big appetite because they have largest specialty pancakes I've seen and eaten! We ordered the Banana Chantilly Pancakes and it was enormous. The consistency was relatively thick and heavy, but was still fluffy and moist. The Chantilly sauce was a great addition and it was not too sweet. Lastly, the pancake was topped with coconut, which added another texture to the dish. Also ordered Eggs Benedict with avocado (extra $2.00 by the way). It was different than other Benedicts that I've had. They were very generous with the hickory-smocked ham as it was very thickly sliced and they use garlic bread instead of classic English muffin. I also ordered classic ice coffee, which was nothing special hence the name. I regret that and should have ordered a specialty coffee drink instead. Waiting time: It's a popular brunch around Hawaii Kai and the restaurant is not necessarily large so expect some sort of a wait. We went on a week day around 10 AM, but still waited for around 10 mins. Parking: Plenty of free parking! One of the few places we visited on the island where it wasn't a headache to find parking. We have heard about this place for the longest time, but with two kids and grandma and grandpa it's hard to get a table. We lucked out one morning around 8:30am and got a table in 10 minutes. The service was very attentive given the busyness of the restaurant, and the food was ono! My 3 year old got the keiki pancakes and it was huge! Fluffy too, he loved them. I got the short rib loco moco over fried rice at the recommendation of our server. Nailed it! A thriving brunch spot in Hawaii Kai where the wait can be worth it to some. For a part of 2 on a Sunday morning the wait was ~25 minutes, while larger groups had to wait as long as an hour (from what I overheard). Moena has an extensive breakfast menu with pretty much all the local and traditional fixings, crepes, and coffee too. From what I read on Yelp, their pancakes are revered so we of course had to try it. Our waiter recommended the cinnamon roll pancakes as it is one of their most popular ones and also advised us that the petite stack would probably be more than enough for the two of us. I also ordered the eggs benedict spinach Florentine with tomato and my friend ordered the short ribs loco moco w/ fried rice. The food took a while to come out after ordering but the place was also packed so it was understandable. When it finally came out I was impressed at the presentation and amount of food that we actually got. The pancake really was enormous and probably twice the size of my face, so I was really glad we went with the petite stack. My eggs Benedict was a little too runny for my liking but I appreciated the generous amount of spinach and thick slices of tomato. No skimping on any ingredient whatsoever. It was pretty bland, but nothing a little Tabasco can't fix. Personally, I'm a waffle fan but I have to admit that the cinnamon roll pancake really was a treat! Light and fluffy accompanied by the cinnamon flavor and a drizzle of cream cheese syrup made it the perfect breakfast dessert. We couldn't finish it all but that just meant we could take it home to enjoy for a second round. The service was commendable and they were very good at refilling our waters and checking to see how we were doing. The only thing that is keeping me from coming back is the price and wait since there are closer breakfast joints to me with a much more reasonable price tag and same quality of food. I ended up getting the Eggs Benedict with avocado. My cousin got the Kalua Benedict and my brother got some artichoke thingy I totally forgot the name. We also got a blueberry waffle to share. Food: My food literally melted in my mouth! It was the most divine thing I have ever tasted, I mean I was totally blown away. The bread had Chunks of roasted garlic inside and it was just so Ono. The sauce and the eggs and the HAM! Oh boy it was perfectly pieced together especially with the creamy avocado. I couldn't get enough. The waffle was really yummy as well. The whipped cream and the syrup gave it an awesome sweet taste perfect In every way. I will DEFINITELY be back to eat at Moena Cafe, i really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. read more
