I'm from out of town so I ate here only once on a special trip from Manhattan to Little Italy the Bronx. My son & I ducked in from the rain and were surprised how excellent the covered patio is...comfortable and homey even though the service was both formal and friendly. Awesome place! I guess I was very skeptical entering this restaurant at first blush, since the place was pity much empty at 7.30 pm on a Saturday. However, I was glad I did, the service was amazing, the waiters was very attentive.  My sister said she had the most delectable pasta cooked al dente, carbonara dish ever.  I had the truffle mushroom gnocchi made with oil since I am vegan, but complete dish would come with shrimp. Drinks was a pitcher full body champagne sangria with fresh fruit. The chef made us a special dessert called a lemon pudding cake, since my sister is not much for sweet desserts, this was Heaven for her! I haven't been to Italian restaurant in ages, but for this food alone, I will definitely go again. Oh! and by time we left there were much more tables filled. If I could give 0 stars I 100 percent would. This restaurant has changed owners in June and is absolutely horrible. I have been going to this restaurant for years and am absolutely appalled. We made reservations a week in advance and we were a party of 8. They were completely unprepared for us and put two circle tables together. We ordered drinks and were told there were no more martini glasses in the entire restaurant (only to find out later they had a whole shelf of them). The drinks were also poorly made since there was no bartender on duty and we sent several of them back. The owner and one person were working during our dinner. Our server (while nice) was completely overwhelmed and could not keep up with making our drinks, serving our food, and assisting the owner in cooking the food. Finally after 1 hour of waiting we asked for Parmigiano cheese and it was COMPLETELY MOLDY. One of my friends wanted to speak to the owner and he blatantly told her to take the cheese off her meal. He would not even come out to speak with us and show his face and was slamming dishes in the kitchen because he was angry about our complaints. There was only one other table there besides us. This whole experience was so horrible and devastating since this restaurant used to be such a nice experience on Arthur Avenue under the old management. While they took off the main dishes and gave a gift card there is no way we will be returning ever again. The rudeness / disregard of the owner and the disgusting mold in their cheese is more than a reason to find a different restaurant on the avenue to eat at. read more

My wife and I were here recently for dinner and had a nice time. We both ordered off of the daily specials menu; lobster ravioli for me which was very good and homemade pasta which is always a plus, and pistachio crusted branzino for my wife which was excellent. The portions were decent, not the usual Italian place "gigantic portion" sizes, but that was ok - the quality and taste made up for it. Their house wine (the white, anyway) was good, and a decent price as well. The specials (and most menu items) were a bit expensive for Arthur Ave, especially given the massive amount of competition in the area. The outside seating area out back was nice - nothing outstanding, but eating outside is always a plus. The drawback - the staff was almost overbearingly attentive - they took almost no cues to let us eat, and this was on a mid-week night with almost no one around, so they certainly weren't rushing us out the door, but if we were left alone for a bit, and not pressured to buy dessert (seriously, I am not changing my mind by the 3rd or 4th time you ask), we may have stayed a bit longer for an after-dinner drink. Overall, a fine restaurant, with pretty good food, and they'd do amazing business if they weren't on Arthur Ave. There are simply much better restaurants right there at a similar or lower cost. read more

We went around 7:00 p.m on a Friday and the vibes of the restaurant were definitely weird. There was no one sitting on the inside and two other table back in the patio. The bread basket was pretty good. The food was not bad but for the price I have had much better. We had to wait a good while to order and for our food. I feel like the service could have been better. To make matters worse, they serve it to me clams on the side of Fettuccine. The Caesar Salad was awful too. Some pasty, yellow, salty stuff slathered all throughout the greens. I wish I could give this restaurant a good review, we stopped in for dinner, they were very accommodating since we didn't have a reservation. Seated us in the downstairs room. All that was terrific. Ordered our food, I had the Penne Primavera, my husband the lamb chops. Lamb chops were not cooked as asked and they came with no vegetable or side as advertised on the menu. My Penne Primavera was awful. It was under cooked penne with over cooked carrots and broccoli, no other vegetables and no sauce of any kind. The penne had not been drained well so everything was swimming in water. Would have been happy to send it back but our waiter went MIA and we were with two teens who had finished their meal and wanted to leave. I would not recommend going to this restaurant, there are so many better ones on Arthur Ave. read more

Reservations for five were made mid week for Gerbasi Restaurant. It would be our first trip to Bronx Little Italy and we all looked forward to it. One of our party doesn't eat meat and Gerbasi's sea food menu was the deciding factor for us. The day came and there was a problem One of the party was going to be late. We moved the reservation back an hour and the change was made without a fuss. When we arrived we told the staff that one of us would be late and proceeded to order. I should mention that our table was set so there was no scramble to set up a table for us. We started with the Italian Anti Pasta plate and an order of fried calamari. The cheese selection for the antipasta was wonderful and the cold cuts were too. Fried calamari can be hit or miss. This was definitely a hit. It was crispy and lightly salted, something everyone appreciated. We ordered our entrée's despite our fifth person still not having arrived. All I can say is about the food is that it was delicious, and that the portions were perfect. The pesto sauce wasn't in clumps. The shrimp and mushroom risotto was great. The slightly undercooked carrots gave it the perfect texture. The egg plant parm disappeard without a complaint from the gues of honor. We were just finishing our meal when the fifth person in our party arrived. Without missing a beat her order was placed and within five minutes of her arrival she was inhaling her chicken parm. We had not told the staff what she wanted to eat. The desserts were wonderful They were out of cannoli's but they had everything else we wanted. The créme brulee was well made and delicious. Overall we agreed that five stars goes to the staff and chef. We plan to revisit. read more

RECOMMENDED My thoughtful lovely sprung an early birthday surprise on me on 1/9/16 when she set the GPS for Arthur Avenue as a tasty prelude to an ultra-secret visit to the fabulous Train Exhibit at the Bronx Botanical Gardens. She suggested Gerbasi Ristorante because she knew I love Veal Osso Buco, a dish which Long Island Italian restaurants are abandoning in favor of the less desirable Pork Shank version due to the former's high price tag. Gerbasi Ristorante features Veal Osso Buco ($29.95) not as a special, but on its regular menu. The restaurant is small,dark and intimate, the perfect setting for a date or special occasion.It got loud as the restaurant filled up, but conversation was still possible without yelling. Service was excellent. The manager, Tony, as well as the staff, worked very hard as they ran through the place, to ensure that customers were satisfied. Upon arrival, we ordered Expresso Martinis. They were just like I like them, strong and with a nice rich coffee flavor. Why do Expresso Martinis always taste better on Arthur Avenue? I ordered the Baked Clams Oreganata ($9.95) as a starter, and my lovely the Grilled Octopus ($13.95). The clams, seven to the order, were good. There was a nice ratio of bread to clam and plenty of moist sauce to sop the restaurant's fresh Italian bread. The clams were well-seasoned and cooked perfectly. Interestingly,the breading contained baby squid and baby artichokes, a nice touch.I actually preferred my taste of Grilled Octopus. They do this dish very well, just about the best version I ever tasted. On to the entrees: My Veal Osso Buco was set atop a pile of creamy and delicious Mushroom Risotto. It was meaty,falling off the shank and terrific!!!!! My lovely enjoyed the tripe. I cannot comment further because I don't eat tripe and I won't eat tripe. As the restaurant's side dish was peas and carrots(???)(Escarole or Broccoli Rabe Please!!!), she chose the red sauce pasta which my late Italian grandmother called "sewer pipes". The accompanying tomato sauce was good. We were too full for dessert or even coffee. I recommend Gerbasi Ristorante, particularly if you enjoy well executed and presented traditional Italian food and terrific Veal Osso Buco. read more

Forget everything you know about Little Italy in Manhattan on Mulberry Street. Arthur Ave is legitimate Italian! We had a group of 8 (most of whom speak Italian) and after attending a day game at Yankee Stadium, we decided to dine here on the recommendation of one of our group members. From the time we stepped into the patio oasis that looks like a Mediterranean bistro, to the time we walked out the front door, service, food, and atmosphere couldn't have been better! We got to chat with the owner, Maurizio, who was absolutely a class act! He was genuine and caring and took the time to socialize and ask us about our dinners! The grilled octopus tentacle was delicious and the figs wrapped with prosciutto and stuffed with goat cheese were otherworldly! Calamari was crisp, light and cooked perfectly and the gnocchi that a few of my group had was fabulous. I had the veal ossobuco over risotto with 3 kinds of mushrooms including porcini mushrooms that they import from Italy. The risotto was a touch watery but the veal was flavorful and tendor. The marrow was heavenly as expected. Desert was a meal unto itself. We had tiramisu with cocoa elements and cannoli's with a pour of sambuca and a double espresso. read more

This is a great little restaurant. The food was tasty, the portions were generous, the waiter was kind and helpful, and I left feeling good about my experience and looking forward to a return visit. I ate (or tasted): grilled octopus, prosciutto scallops with gorgonzola, pork bracciola, veal chop verdicchio, roast potatoes, broccolini, penne alla vodka, tiramisu, and creme brulee. I try to be fair and rate restaurants based on food, service and atmosphere, in that order. We were walking down Arthur Ave and were "hailed" into the restaurant (I hate that!), kept walking and eventually returned. It was quaint and cozy. And service was attentive. The food though - I ordered the prosciutto and mozeralla stuffed veal chop - it was sooooo salty. Why I didn't say something, I don't know. I should have. Not inedible but very overpowering, so not real enjoyable. My wife had veal parm - was OK, nothing spectacular not that veal parm can be spectacular. But it was soggy and not solid. Oh, and my broccoli rabe - also several doses too heavy on the salt shaker. I should be tasting garlic, not salt. So two stars on the food and service and atmosphere generously cannot quite bring it up a notch. Better choices nearby. read more

Went in for lunch and ordered the mussel appetizer and the Margherita personal pizza. They started us out with a fairly large bread basket with herb-infused olive oil. The bread was clearly very fresh; it was delicious. The olive oil was great as well. It took around 15 more minutes for the mussels to come, so not too quick but not unbelievably slow either. The mussels were very good, but the portion was pretty small. After the appetizers, we waited another 50 or so minutes for the main dishes, so very slow. The personal Margherita pizza was just okay, not as good as I expected. The crust was thin and crispy, but the sauce and cheese left a lot to be desired; it just wasn't that great. Besides the slowness of the service, everything else was fine. The waitstaff were friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was fairly nice. The prices were reasonable as well. However, the zuppa de pesce was a major disappointment! it was very tasty but definitely lacking in quality fish. Only 2 baby shrimp, 2 baby clams, some white fish and tons of calamari! You know they know better so not sure why but, this is what they served! They were nice enough to cook up an order of zucchini flowers when we saw them arriving perhaps for the dinner hour and they were delicious. So, if we go back or you go, ask for prices of entrees (not on menu) and remind them of this review if you order the zuppa! Also, not very good with drink orders, bloody marys were so-so! read more

Sooooo good. Tiramisu was really good. especially since I never enjoyed eating tiramisu My companions each enjoyed their food with high ratings. Owner and servers were also so friendly. Another visit and better than first. Fried zucchini blossoms are the best I've had (including Grandmas!), grilled octopus was as good as it can get - grilled whole segment, perfect. Lamb chops fantastic, orange and fennel salad fresh, simple and very good. Fresh porcini with freshly made pasta was ok but chef should pass on cooking it with wine - bit soggy and with plain Olive oil only and all the other goodies on it now it would he 1st rate. Nice selection inexpensive wines in bottle and the best outdoor dining area out back - just like families back yard city dining. Doesn't get better. I'll be back ! read more

Three points: First, when we arrived they didn't seem that slammed, however, after waiting over 30 minutes for our apps, we realized they apparently were. The kicker is, from talking to two separate staff members, this is a rush they usually expect. Why then would you not take the proper precautions, as management, to adjust to this surge is service? Second, of the apps we ordered, the one we received was the figs wrapped in prosciutto. Very odd perpetration. Maybe this is the correct method but cooked prosciutto ruins the flavor, imo. Next, the gnocchi, albeit homemade, was a bit of a let down. It wasn't cooked fully, which makes it nearly inedible, and adds insult to injury because then the flavor of the sauce doesn't have time to meld with the pasta. I understand they felt rushed to the peak service but I would rather of not been served. Speaking of, my first dish wasn't available (they ran out of the ingredients for the sauce) and the replacement I chose was also unavailable, this time they ran out of the pasta. I would have been less upset if it didn't take them the better part of 10 minutes (both times) to inform me of the shortage. Third and final, and quite frankly the only reason this isn't a one star review. Our waiter was extremely apologetic and truly did operate at his best. However, there is only so much you can do when given the resources he was. We were treated as VIPs at arrival. Our table was waiting for us promptly. The waiter and captain Charlie and George are so attentive and pleasant. Our food was so delicious. We had eggplant parmigiana, baked ziti, chicken parmigiana, meatballs and delicious fresh salads. The food is fresh and tasty, they don't pile on the salt, they don't need to because they cook authentically and use quality ingredients. We will surely be back! read more

Went to Arthur Ave in search of some great Italian cuisine. Lucky for me, I ran into George, who was so warm and invitIng I stopped in for dinner. I enjoyed a plate of gnocchi with Italian sausages and shrimps, vegetables, etc. it was great. Nice and fresh. Also fillet branzino with sautéed spinach garlic etc. I wish I took a pic, but take my word for it.... you can't go wrong. I shyed away from the Italian sausage because it was a little too funky for me but otherwise delish. Nice and intimate location. Perfect for a date night read more

We had a delicious meal on the back patio. Heaters provided warmth on the well-ventilated space. The minestrone was super fresh and hot, just what we needed after our visit to the Bronx Zoo. My ziti al forni we're very good but my husbands special of ravioli di zuccha with broccoli cream sauce was out of this world. Service was efficient and very friendly. Wine is affordable - the Toscana red was excellent. We finished with Tiramisu and complimentary Limoncello. A perfect dining experience. read more
