On most weekends, i am in the Morgan Hill area and GVA coffee shoppe is my absolute favorite place to get coffee. The employees have impeccable customer service; friendly, well informed and always armed with suggestions to try different products without being forceful. I just discovered they carry the coffee line from New York, Death Wish, and i was absolutely ecstatic. The baristas brew my drink to perfection everytime i visit the shoppe. If you enjoy strong coffee, i suggest the Valhalla groom the Death Wish line but if you like string AND sweet, try an iced caramel latte wish 2 shots of Death Wish. Don't worry, they also have their hone brands of coffee which jus jusy as tasty and strong. No weird after taste and wholesome. read more

I love the automobile theme, and the gelato is top notch! (You can tell by how well a place does vanilla bean.) My only complaint is that it's a bit warm inside the cafe. Luckily, they have outdoor seating, and downtown Morgan Hill is very quaint. read more

Best gelato place in morgan Hill. People here are super nice and there's a nice selection of gelato. I rarely find places that serve affogato and they do here! The lemon bars are pretty good as well. I was in town on business and was looking for a coffee and dessert joint after an excellent steak dinner and this was just down the street. The coffee was most excellent and the salted caramel brownie was huge. I highly recommend this for sweets and java. read more

love what this place and evolved into. Besides some good Santa Cruz Roaster brews available, tasty little eats, and always rockin 90's music ha ha, they've really turned into a community hub too. Again, Good Coffee, Good pastries, breakfast plates, gelato, so if you're looking for these things, come here. I've also tasted their catering side of things and... about the same, "it's tasty", and made with love. The "more" part that i absolutely love is the live music they bring into town that creates a stage for musician to do their thing and share it. I love hanging out here with my laptop or meeting up with a friend and enjoying a wide variety of options - some days a GOOD cup of coffee, a hot tea or smoothie, and others some super yummy gelato (ahh.. Yea for Italian ice cream), sandwiches, not to mention their wide selection of very delectable looking desserts and pastries. And even though it's not on the menu, when I asked if they had any salad, the owner's daughter quickly offered to make me one (and it was beautiful). If that's not enough they also offer beer and wine and a comfortable lounge type area with a variety of evening entertainment. It's so nice to find a locally owned and operated coffee shop/cafe/live music venue all in one spot. It is in an idyllic setting with lots of character and down to earth, helpful service. It reminds me of the popular local spots in San Francisco with the relaxed country Morgan Hill atmosphere. Kudos to the owners for the reminder that local business owners have a vested interest in the community and really able to know and deliver what the locals want. read more

I first came across this place's coffee because they bring their coffee for some event at the Community Center before the Rotary Club comes in. I got to try a couple of the different coffees and wow they are by far much better than any other coffee than I have had. I am one of those people who has a little coffee with their cream and sugar, lol. But the flavors are bold, versus blah at competitors. Plus its a small town small business which is a bonus. I walked in and asked if they had anything similar to a frappachino and they showed me the different flavors they had. I told them that I really like something 1st street coffee in Gilroy had that was called Irish cream dream. They said, no problem we cant make something like that! The girls there were very friendly and personable. My daughter for the cookie dough frappe and she slurped it down. So I got a irish cream one and it was sooo good. I wish I got a bigger one. I went to GVA with my son, his wife and baby the other day for lunch because it is such a relaxed atmosphere and the food is very clean eating and very reasonably priced. I got a Cobb salad and a Mayan mocha, my daughter-in-law got a turkey avocado sandwich with fresh fruit and yogurt and my son ordered an Americana iced coffee and a sandwich and salad. There was so much food I had to take some home. The baby loved the fruit and yogurt. There are two rooms, so plenty of space to move around in and room for the baby and daddy to walk around in when she got restless. The food came quickly and was really delicious. I also love coming on Wednesday evening for the open mic, great entertainment from local talent. read more

After dinner in downtown Morgan Hill i was in the mood for some coffee. We found this corner shop in downtown Morgan Hill that has a lot to offer . . . maybe a lil too much! I walked in and was totally overwhelmed . . . signs for the skirt steak sandwich dinner special, gelato, brew bar, beer, wine, baked good, desserts, open mic on Wednesday (or was it Thursday?), car theme . . . WHOAH!!! I didn't know what to look at!! I ended up ordering what I came for . . . just coffee . . . actually a soy Mayan Mocha. Nothing too special about it. Workers were pretty friendly, but looked busy. I didnt notice how many people were in the shop since I was too busy looking at everything else. Based on the atmosphere and my coffee this spot seems like a cool place to hang out. I'll need to come by when I have more time. I did notice they sell affogato which is gelato with espresso. Stopped by yesterday to grab a mocha, beans and some gelato, bad move! 2 employees and I assume the owner were working behind the counter. I asked if they still sold beans (no bags in sight )she said to pick out flavor and she'd bag it up. Took a min, turned to tell her I'm ready and she had disappeared. No biggie, the owner (?) Was there, yakking the other kid's ear off. Poor guy kept glancing at me but seemed scared to interrupt her, I waited and waited for her to take a breath so I could say excuse me but nope, she kept right talking while looking at me! Finally got tired (& I was tired after working all fricken day, starting from 0400) and walked out. So I went to Carmel Roasting instead, got BEANS and a great iced mocha! I'm almost sorry to write this review. I SO MUCH want a decent coffee shop in town. (and by decent I mean a place that can serve a good cappuccino.) the short version: floors and tables: sticky and dirty, Gelato: stretchy and gummy, baked goods: wrapped in saran wrap, Cappuccino: like trying to find some espresso under a dome of dry styrofoam. the long version: So the new owners have been in for a while and have had time to get situated and settled. The hubby and I finally decide to give it a try, especially since we recently came home from Italy and had a hankering for gelato. The place was dirty - dirty tables, dirty counter, everything looked a bit sticky or crumby. I thought it looked like it could use a good hose-down with a hot dish towel and some bleach. Now a little background to this story: I lived in Italy for a while, and ever since I have had a love-hate relationship with cappuccino. I fell in love with cappuccino in my Italian village, and finding a decent comparison back "home" (the U.S.) proved quite difficult indeed. I complained endlessly about the pathetic attempts at cappuccino from the various shops we would visit, about Starbucks "McDonald-izing" and ruining the neighborhood coffee shop, and only rarely finding satisfaction in a proper cappuccino. Hubby always scoffed and rolled his eyes at my complaints. He rarely complains about food and usually gives the benefit of the doubt. Well, after our last trip to Italy, hubby finally drank cappuccino with me instead of the usual espresso. NOW HE KNOWS! He ordered a cappuccino at Grinds Vines.. etc. I suspect that the poor young guy making it didn't even know what a cappuccino really is. (for those who don't know, cappuccino is a delightful blend of espresso and steamed milk. The milk is brought to a creamy, rich froth and blended with the espresso. The bubbles in the milk are so miniscule that a sip is like a velvety creamy delight with a wonderful flavor of strong delicious espresso.....not quite cream, and not quite liquid, but a little of both......a creamy, wonderful extravagance for a morning beverage) ...back to our experience: He steamed the milk to a dry stiff pouff and proceeded to SPOON the dry pouff bubbles into a cup - NO milk was added, just pouff bubbles. When he had the cup full of dry foam, he poured an espresso over the top and handed it to my husband. Hubby, being the trouper he is, decided to give it a go. He stirred in some sugar and sipped. The best way to describe his reaction is that he is STILL talking about it to this day! That was over two months ago!! He said it was like trying to find some espresso under a dome of styrofoam. He said "it was the WORST ever!" He said a lot of things, but you get the idea. On top of the sad cappuccino debacle, we also ordered some gelato. The gelato had a weird gummy texture, rather than the creamy texture so beloved of gelato. It also had some ice crystals in it. The flavor wasn't too bad, but it was overly sweet and lacked the quality punch of flavor that you find in fresh-made, quality-ingredient gelato. I also considered a baked treat to have with my espresso (I was too scared to risk the disappointment of a cappuccino!), but the baked goods were all individually wrapped in plastic Saran Wrap. They just didn't look very fresh and appetizing, so I passed. Needless to say, we will NOT be back. The whole experience was so disappointing, and bad to the point that my husband still gets excited explaining how awful his order was - months ago. read more

GVA Cafe is such an interesting place. The bf and I decided to stop by Morgan Hill for dinner after shopping and we stumbled upon gva. I really just wanted gelato but realized there was such a huge diversity of other stuff there too ! I wish it werent so late in the day, or else I would have gotten coffee. There was a huge selection of fresh coffee beans. They had tea, breakfast, and other food too. They even had beer and wine. 2 Stars. Came here one evening for some gelato. The place sells way too may items, Gelato, Sandwiches, pastries, breads, Italian soda, coffee. The place almost seems like it doesn't know its own identity. Besides the identity issue, their gelato is just not that good. I got the mocha almond fudge and the flavor was seriously lacking. It wasn't smooth and creamy like it should be, but rather on the icy side. Not a fan Final Thoughts: Can I really expect authentic gelato in the middle of Morgan Hill? I've been here a handful of times in the afternoon and the coffee has been decent. But the last two times...not so much. I came in for an iced coffee and it was just hot coffee poured over ice = watered down coffee. I'm pretty sure you have to use twice the amount of coffee to get a good cup of iced coffee right? I just went in this morning because i was very close nearby and got a pour-over from the brew bar, should be easy right? Wrong! She used a tiny little scoop for 16 oz coffee... once again diluted coffee. I know starbucks caters to the "blonde roaste" drinkers of the world but i was hoping they were the only ones. You guys have like 30 jars of beans on the wall but I can't even enjoy them..frustrated :( read more

Cute cafe in Downtown Morgan Hill. The SO and I made a quick stop for a drink while lunch was being made across the street. Walk inside and the cafe is a little busy with a lot going on (in terms of decorations), but once you get past that, you're good to go. They sell gelato, beer, and coffee here. I didn't pay attention to much else so maybe I'm missing something. I ordered a nonfat iced mocha and it was pretty good! This place is just too fun. Originally a bank built in 1905 it has been turned into a fantastic coffee shop that still uses the original bank counter. This was by far my favorite feature. Followed by all the old car paraphernalia hanging everywhere. The lovely lady helping me was a true delight and made a fantastic almond milk latte for me. This is the only place I'll get coffee in Morgan Hill, period. I just want to support the "little guy" in town. I'm not a coffee snob. I barely drink the stuff. To paraphrase the Most Interesting Man in the World, "I do not always drink coffee. But when I do, i drink it at GVA!" The staff is always friendly, and I always enjoy the coffee. I usually get it to go, and walk around town. Today, however, the power went out at my house. I was working from home, so that was more than just a little inconvenient. I was about to head to a big-name coffee shop to get some internet, but thought I'd try GVA instead. Good call! They do have wireless internet -- I'd never needed it while there, so I didn't know. Anyhow, I came downtown and got a mocha with their dark Peruvian blend, and got to work. So here's what I really didn't know: They have an AWESOME Cobb Salad here! I was very pleasantly surprised. Really fresh ingredients, and put together beautifully! I knew they had lunch items here, but I'd only ever gotten coffee. I will definitely be back for this salad. I was surprised to see that GVA was open but they seem to be handling everything really well. The employees are very nice and don't rush you like some other places might. They also had hand sanitizer when we went! Not sure if it was just a one off but it was really nice. The drinks are very good quality. I got a breakfast burrito with ham and an iced caramel macchiato with coconut milk. The caramel macchiato was super good but the burrito was okay/goodish. I liked the ham in it but there was a lot of egg and it was a little flavorless, the salsa made it better thought. During my short time in Morgan Hill/Gilroy, I frequented Grinds at least three times during a two-day period. The staff who works at Grinds are great! They had wonderful recommendations on what to order and try and places to visit in Morgan Hill/Gilroy. I could see this place being a coffee shop/cafe where people knows your name and story. The cafe had a personable vibe to it. I had their lemon-grass tea which was really good. The smell of the lemon-grass was strong, but in a good way. I also loved their sorbet and ice cream selections. They had acai sorbet! The staff was so friendly. He let my friends and I tried many flavors before making our final selections. Who doesn't love samples? And, each one of their sorbet and ice cream I tried was so good! It was definitely hard to make a decision and i actually came back for more the next day!
