My husband and I have been here a few times and we're a major fan of this place. The one thing that keeps us coming back is the homemade bread. I just love the French baguette. It always comes out warm, lightly toasted but still soft in the middle. My husband gets the home-style breakfast with bacon, eggs scrambled, white rice and toast. It has come out perfect each time for him! I like to switch it up and try different things on the menu. So far, everything I've tried is great. I've had the home-style breakfast with portuguese sausage, eggs over easy, fried rice, and French baguette toast. I've tried the southwest scramble that had scrambled eggs with shredded pork, peppers, tomatoes, onions, chives, and melted cheddar cheese on top. DELICIOUS!! I am sad to say that we have moved to the mainland and can no longer go to one of our favorite breakfast places right down the street. =( read more

Love the name...good Sunday morning crowd. Friendly wait staff. They have terrific housemade muffins of the day, tasted fresh out of the oven. My son's Eggs Benedict disappeared the minute his plate hit the table. My husband had the loco moco with Portuguese sausage and topped with their pork chili. Every waiter stopped to see the combo..amazed that he finished it all. My breakfast was cooked to order Portuguese sausage and eggs, over medium with extra crispy hashbrowns and housemade honey biscuit. #fail on the biscuit. I was soooo disappointed. This thing could be classified as weapon. Hard as rock..couldn't even cut it with my knife. The kitchen staff should have realized this when it went on my plate. This is my favorite breakfast place in Kailua. If you get there early enough, you won't have to wait, and I've never found parking to be a problem. The food is fantastic! And the menu is diverse. The staff is friendly and responsive even when they're busy. The decor is beach casual, interesting art in a fun funky setting. I always take visitors there, and we've never been disappointed. You might want to note that the name is pronounced mo'-kay. Calling someone a "moke" rhymed with "coke" can be insulting. read more

The last time I came here was a few years back and I was sure I would never return. Then, my hamburger was underdone, then overdone! I entertained my return because my friend really wanted to try it, being the last restaurant to try in Kailua. Menu looked fine, however substitutions were forbidden. Lame! Break a rule people, you may find that accommodating your customer, they may return and speak better of your place. The waffles was lacking taste, but thank goodness for maple syrup. Ordering the typical egg, meat, carb meal was fine. Hashbrowns were crispy (how I like them), scrambled eggs were not runny, and Portuguese sausage was fine. The morning would have been fine if my friend did not bite on something hard and cracked her tooth. Did any employee care? NO!!! No one came by to check on us, no one offered to comp the meal, NO ONE CARED!!!! Cinnamons and Boots and Kimos are the normal places that a lot of people go to for breakfast on the Kailua side. However, if you really want an intimate feel, then this place is where you should go. The Lilikoi pancakes are a must try. They are light and delicious. They also have omelets that are awesome as well. They have a hand made corn hash patty but it's ok. I think I like this place better than Over Easy. Over Easy is good too, but their menu is limited and I haven't liked everything I've ordered there. Not to mention they are situated in a less than picturesque location that doesn't really stir the appetite. Moke's menu is a bit larger and less "fussy." We visited this breakfast spot on the recommendation of countless Pintreat-linked blog articles. Situated on a moderately busy cross street, the parking on the street or near by is easy. Bring some change to fill the meters. The menu is well thought out and seems time tested. What works for this place has worked for years from what I gather. We sat with no wait at a table near the kitchen. Opening the menu found many "stand by" breakfast meals. Eggs-bacon-toast type items. Once you dig in, the gems start to surface, most notably the Stuffed Hash brown. Imagime an omelet sub-hasbrowns-hold-the-eggs. The Moco Loco selection is unique. The Lilikoi (did I say that right?) pancakes were very good. It seems hard to mess up pancakes to me but restaurants often do. These had the consistency of an angel's pillow in Heaven. The sauce. The. Sauce. The ingredients are sourced locally and the taste is spot on. (Slow clap). By far the best experience here was Jeffery. He was our waiter and in addition to being a skilled server ( they all seemed to be), he had some really spot on suggestions about the must try spots around "the rock". He is obviously a foodie and had strong opinions, developed pallet. He was wonderful and a true asset to Moke's. If we ever come back. We'll visit again. read more

Best breakfast I've had in Kailua so far. Here's what we had: -Muffin of the day. Apple cinnamon, hint of nutmeg. Tender, fluffy, delicious. - Loco moco with fried rice. Very, very good. Substantial gravy, not watery and tasteless. Fried rice had big chunks of portuguese sausage. Hamburger patty was handmade. Would have liked to seen mushrooms and onions, but still, really good. - Lilikoi pancakes. This should be in bold, so GOOD! They make a great pancake, but the lilikoi sauce they put on this is just perfect. -Side of hash browns. The weakest part of the meal, really. Skip and get fried rice instead, or pancakes/muffins. There was no wait, no line out the door (but we got there at 7:30). Crowd was almost entirely local, no tourists yet. But something as tasty as these lilikoi pancakes won't stay a secret forever. read more

Delicious! Love crunch and I were in likiko'i heaven! ...or nirvana for you rinpoches out there. For these two rimps, it was complete enlightenment. The answer to life is liliko'i pancakes at Moke's. The apple waffle wasn't too shabby either. Make sure to add maple syrup, it's sooooo ono. My serradura had the Mokapu omelet with hot chocolate, which was tasty, but had too much pocho sausage. Would have been better without it. Only mistake, which I deeply regret, was filling up on the mediocre honey butter biscuit. I wasn't able to finish all the rest of my carb filled goodness because of it. Jacks in 'Aina Haina has the best biscuit anywhere so go there if you want a good one. My wife grew up in Kailua and we back for a long weekend for my niece wedding. Usually, we are visting with our kids and will hit breakfast at Zippy's or Times in Kailua, but while shopping for a dress for my wife, we saw Moke's and decided to try for breakfast the next day. Initially, I was a little concerned because it's not a big place (both indoor and some outdoor seating), but we got in after about a 10 minute wait. I ordered the portugeuse sauage, eggs (scrambled), and rice. While it's a simple order, all of the food was perfectly cooked and the sauage was one of the best that I have had (Neto's is better in Santa Clara, CA). Additionally, I ordered the lilikoi pancakes. Never had lilikoi pancakes before. I will be having lilikoi pancakes in the future! The pancakes were lite and fluffy with the lilikoi sauce on top. Very ono! There was a time when every Sunday we would go to Mokes for breakfast. It was worth the 30+ minute wait. I'm being nice by giving 3 stars bc this last breakfast was worth 1. Decided to get the eggs benedict special. It definitely was special the hollandaise sauce had the consistency of oily scrambled eggs. I brushed it to the side and ate the egg, ham and English muffin and at the end of the meal told the waitress to inform the chef that that is not what hollandaise is suppose to look like. She agreed. After our morning hike to the Lanikai Pill Box, we ended up here for breakfast. WOW, what a great pick based on reviews on YELP. Friday morning and this place had a full house with a small line of waiting patrons that grew after we arrived. The food is great, omelets, pancakes, grilled muffins(one side is toasted), no bad choices here. The staff is great and was always available if there was a question or a request.
