    Refreshing.

Although created in 1944 by Victor "Trader Vic" Bergeron in Oakland, California, the Mai Tai became synonymous with Hawaii because Trader Vic brought the drink to Honolulu in 1953 to develop the bar program for the Matson Line Hotels, including the Royal Hawaiian. Sheryl M., my waifu, told me I had to get he Mai Tai because that's what everybody loved getting at Moku's. Other sips we had: $8 Deschutes Black Butte, $9 Monkeypod Mai Tai, $14 No Kai Oi, $14 Bartender's Special, $8 Hop Island Beer, $7 Housemade Ginger Beer, $14 Pear Pressure, $14 Wahine Noho Mauna. $88 before tax. All drinks were amazing and the service was wonderful. They remembered Sheryl M. so this tells me this is the kind of place that takes time and effort to get to know their patrons. Five stars! I would have loved to try their food but we were having dinner afterwards.

We came for their happy hour with friends and we were not disappointed. $6 off their signature Mai Tai so refreshing and yummy. Half off small plates and $13 pizzas what a deal Seated right away and with a big smile. Service was good and we did not feel left alone. Restaurant was filled and very festive (and noisy) We ordered... Garlic and Truffle oil fries.. great fries super savory Poke Tacos... fresh poke in taco shells very flavorful Szechuan Stir Fried green beans... need some veggies! Bulgogi Sliders... Not bad meat was tender Hamakua Mushroom and Truffle oil Pizza... slightly floppy but taste and flavor on point Kalua Pork and Pineapple Pizza... Sweet and savory at its best And a few more drinks I can't remember!?!? I think it was one of our best meals in Oahu. The happy hour prices do sway my decision though. Worth coming back again

Great first stop upon arriving on the island. This is one of my fave areas in Oahu for eats and shopping. What a deal for HH. Have long been a fan of Merriman's and Monkeypod so the mai tai would be the same. Had the mushroom pizza and poke tacos - both delicious. Of course we had at least two mai tais with lilikoi foam - so notalgic. We noticed we got charged the wrong bill and we brought it up to the manager and she corrected and gave us a comp entree for next time.

    Best mai tais ever!!

Best Mai Tai ever!! That lilikoi foam on the mai tai ... winnas! Best Happy Hour on the island!! Daily 2:00-5:30 pm. Also a late night HH at either 8 pm or 9 pm depending on the day. The mushroom pizza the best. Their salads are awesome too (just not a happy hour item but worth it full price). We sat at a table this time and had the best service by Gigi. She accommodated all of our special requests and food allergies. Not many places do that, and all with a smile on her face :-) I also love sitting at the bar ... all the bartender staff are so friendly. Moku's is #1 in my books!

Phenomenal mai tais and happy hour menu! Restaurant is spacious and bar can accommodate many people. Service is fast!

Moku is always a go-to for happy hour. The deals are just too good: 50% off small plates, $13 pizzas, cheaper beers, so it's easy to try a bunch of things without feeling bad about it. Honestly, I don't really come here for regular lunch or dinner because the pricing isn't really worth it to me. But there are a few things I always get. The squash ravioli is a must every time. I tried the pizza for the first time recently and it was so good I'd actually come back just for that. Poke nachos and bulgogi sliders are both solid too. I'm not really a mai tai person, but all my friends love the Moku mai tais. Their draft selection is good though, the lilikoi mead was like juice, so yummy. I come here a lot for work lunches and service is always really nice and attentive, probably because we go early before it gets busy. If you go during happy hour or dinner, it gets pretty packed so service can be a little slower, but nothing crazy. The vibe is always nice, there's usually live music during happy hour which I like. Parking is easy with validation at SALT, and it's just a fun area to be in overall.

It was happy hour so we decided to get some items on the happy hour menu. We shared the pot stickers, and butternut squash ravioli. I love trying their appetizers when they're 50% off for happy hour! These were delicious and flavorful, I would definitely get them again. I also got the Mai Tai which was only $9 during happy hour. It was so delicious I love their lilikoi foam! This is a must try drink. As usual we got their pizza, which is only $12 during happy hour! We tried their rotating pizza which was a corn beef hash pizza, it was unique so decided to give it a try. I enjoyed it, as it was interesting flavors. I liked the dill and the creamy sauce. Overall I enjoyed the dinner a lot, our server was awesome and attentive the whole time! I can't wait to return again.

Moku Kitchen Happy Hour! Food: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Stopped in for a birthday luncheon. It was happy hour at 2pm so food and drinks were a lot cheaper than usual. We love the Mai Tai here and it was only $9 during HH. Small plates were also discounted 50% off and the pizza was $13. Our favorites were the Stir Fry Green Beans, Pork Potstickers, Poke Tacos, and the Hamakua Mushroom & Truffle Oil. Everything was so good, definitely recommend stopping in for happy hour!

I've visited Moku Kitchen dozens of times throughout the years. It's a wonderful place for many different reasons and a great place for many different occasions. But it never feels one-size-fits-all. Whether you're looking for a boozy brunch with the GF's, a working birthday lunch with the coworkers, or a Pau Hana sess with the bestie, Moku's got you covered. Service is always attentive and friendly and the food is consistently Ono! I wanted to write a review for a while now but never got around to it. (Sorry, Moku Kitchen!) What finally prompted me was their coconut chowder. I don't consume land animals and recently eliminated dairy. But Moku Kitchen still has my back! Their coconut corn chowder is vegan!! Don't let the label fool you. Just let the soup fill you. It's a bowl of comfort with hints of sweet coconut and the brightness of lemongrass. So ONO! Also, you can get truffle Parmesan fries sans Parmesan and it's just as delish. Szechuan green beans are always fire! I thought this review might be helpful for anyone else who has restrictions. Don't let those keep you away from Moku Kitchen. I also love the live music here. Years ago, I heard Josh Tatofi play here live before his music blew up, so you never know what rising star you might be enjoying. And the happy hour deals can't be beat - 50% small plates (which includes the soup!) And $$ off all wines by the glass, draft beers, and libations. Plus $6 off the famous Moku Kitchen Mai Tai. There is a reason this place has been around so long. Give it try! It won't disappoint.

The small plate menu is 50% off at happy hour. Happy hour: Mon-Sun, 2-5:30pm Sun-Wed, 8-9pm Thu-Sat, 9-10pm There's also lives music everyday from 4-6p, then 6:30-8:30p. Why have I never tried the poke tacos before?! So yummy! Comes with 3 mini tacos with poke, no onions, and you eat them in 2-4 bites. Packed with flavor. Worth it. The roasted squash ravioli is good, but I only like to order it every now and then. I need more texture. The taste is good though. The feta makes this dish!

3.5* Would be a 4* if the food was consistently great. Happy hour prices are great! Weekday reservations are easy. Patio seating: 4* Less noisy & less crowded than inside. Rain, wind & pigeons are occasional nuisances. Service: 4* With 1 exception, the servers have been friendly & responsive. Food: 3* $13 GARLIC TRUFFLE OIL FRIES generally delicious. Usually don't order or eat fries, but a yelp event got me hooked on these. Inconsistent portion size, varies with each visit. 1x they were noticeably burnt & should not have left the kitchen; the replacement was noticeably smaller. $13 COCONUT CORN CHOWDER: Tiny with a thin consistency although tasty. $23 HAMAKUA MUSHROOM & TRUFFLE OIL pizza: Can't really taste the truffle oil. 2x it looked different & tasted bad - new kitchen staff? Otherwise usually enjoyable. $22 KALUA PORK & PINEAPPLE: Enjoy the macnut pesto. Sometimes the kalua pork is skimpy. 1x there was no roasted pineapple - no pineapple in Hawaii?? Usually not a pineapple on pizza fan but it works with the pesto. Sometimes the PIZZA SPECIAL is appealing. There was a yummy lamb version.

Love the location. They have indoor and outdoor seated. Their menu is not huge but what they make is delicious. Pizzas, salads, appetizers, burgers, and artisan sodas. The food tasted great but the portions sizes are not that big compared to other places. I ordered their smash burger and garlic truffle fries. Cooked to perfection and the fries were crunchy yet soft. We went an around 2pm. After the lunch rush. While the servers were friendly and attentive, it did take a while to get a check. Overall it was great food but a little over priced yet I would come back because the food tasted great!

Did they go back to real restaurant service? Meaning the sever takes your order, not order at counter and then get a number

Sit down and order from a server...no. It's a hybrid system, you order from the counter, pay for your food and take a number. Food server will deliver your food when it's ready.

Are they still doing proof of vaccinations or negative covid tests?

    No, they're not.

Have they started to take reservations again?

Yes you can reserve on OpenTable

    Is there outdoor seating?

Yes there is although on a sunny day it can be quite warm

Are Moku's happy hour selections & prices (pizza & small plates) also for take-out?

Nope, it is only for dine-in.

Can Moku please bring back its full menu?

    TOTALLY AGREE!! 🙏🏼💯

    Do they take reservations?

No, it is still walk ins only.

    What time is happy hour?

When we went today, it was 4pm - 5pm. Menu is smaller, but it's their best sellers.

So are they/you open or not? The website says they are as of June 16 but when you call it says they're closed - sooooo?

I *think* they open today. Hours are posted on their site with today's date. But their phone still isn't on.

    When is happy hour?

    3-5:30 pm 9:00-11:00 pm

    Is there a gluten-free menu?

    They have gluten free options!

Do they have a private room?

Not sure. I don't think so. They do have sectioned areas which could help.

Is happy hour menu only offered at the bar?

    Nope. Anywhere in the restaurant.

    Where do you park?

There is validated parking for the entire Salt complex attached to Salt. The entrance is on Keawe St. on the right, after the pedestrian crossing in the middle of the block. It's a couple of bucks for the 1st 2 hours with validation and cheaper than… Read more

I am allergic to canola oil. Is Moku Kitchen still putting canola oil in everything even grilled vegetables and desserts?

I would address this question to the owners or management of the establishment.

Do they have late Happy hour?

Are these pies same as serving at Monkey pod kitchen?

Sorry. That am I not sure. I haven't had dessert at Monkeypod yet.

To my surprise, on a Sunday evening after having dinner nearby at Maze, my wife and I walked over to Bar Leather Apron and we were able to get seated right away! In fact, around 7:30 p.m. when we stopped by, there was actually a ton of seating available in the bar. Who would've guessed. If you're in the same boat as me and are unable to find a reservation for your upcoming visit, I would encourage you to stop by and try a walk-in. The first page of the menu lists a wide variety of whiskey based cocktails. Most -- if not all, of the cocktails are pre-fixed with BLA (Bar Leather Apron), and represent a collaboration with the named distillery. If you're fan of whiskey, you'll definitely have a difficult time picking only one. I ultimately ordered their "Take Warning" -- 2021 BLA Knob Creek BLA Single Barrel, Cynar, Carpano Antica, Mezcal, Bergamot Salt. Drinks here are not cheap -- averaging $20 to $25 per drink. Although my drink was very spirit forward, it still felt very well balanced. I appreciated the hint of smokiness from the mezcal that rounded out the end of a sip. Service here quick and friendly. When we received the check, a cute small chocolate snack was brought over as well, borrowed from the menu at Maze. Overall, I can see why Bar Leather Apron has earned so many accolades in its field. Definitely worth a stop by if you enjoy the art of mixology.

We started our vacation with dinner at the Hideout, and upon entering you could immediately hear live music. We received a warm welcome, and brought over to our booth where our server Kai was quick to greet us. We ordered cocktails (I don't remember the name of mine. It's something spritz, and my husband tried the banana bread old fashioned) and we shared the appetizer platter (brussel sprouts with pork belly, kalua pork egg rolls, poke tacos, and edamame)to share. We also ordered the garlic shrimp dumplings. Everything was super tasty. Lots of other items on the menu that I want to try during another visit to the island.

I initially tried the bakery directly across the street at the International Marketplace, but they didn't open until 7am. I began to walk towards a distant Starbucks I found on Google and noticed an active escalator and signage pointing towards the open Hideout at the Laylow. Advertising local coffee, I immediately took the ride upstairs and was greeted by two young ladies full of smiles and Aloha spirit! Being summertime and hot (even at 6am) I ordered a large iced latte and decided to drink it on their large open lanai. I'm glad I did. The breezes up there were perfect and watching the daylight get brighter with local birds chirping and fluttering about made for a very nice wake-up! This became my go-to stop every morning of my visit! I only ordered breakfast once and kept it low-carb so I had cheesy eggs and Portuguese sausage. Perfect and hit the spot. If staying at the Laylow (Marriott product) or close by, I'd recommend this as your morning wake-up as well! Enjoy!

It is why you've searched for EP bar, looked over various reviews, and randomly found yourself reading thru the first few lines of this review. Well, welcome Dear Reader, and I hope what I'm about to share peaks your interest to visit EP Bar. I had my 2nd visit to EP Bar earlier this month with friends for some after dinner drinks. We did make a res, but there were some walk-ins while we there, so it's probably recommended but not necessary. We perused the menu, and our 1st round consisted of: Ringo Star Strawberry Fields Forever Pho Us By Us Hail Mary Any guesses on the drink I chose? It's related to the Beatles. If you guessed Ringo Star.....take another guess. The Strawberry Fields Forever was very refreshing. Recommended. My partner ordered the Hail Mary, which (sadly) wasn't to his liking, and he happily "helped" me finish my drink before ordering one this own in the next round. I chose the Ringo Star as my next drink, and I'd say if you're a fan of Mr. Star and/or apples, this drink is right up your orchard. Recommended. SERVICE The service is friendly, mixed with a splash of polite, and served with patience and knowledge. BOTTOM LINE A great place for drinks. Casual ambiance/vibe and relaxed atmosphere. Recommended.

Fifteen minutes west of Waikiki, you'll find yourself in a completely different Hawaii…read more Honolulu's Chinatown feels worlds away from the beachfront resorts and postcard-perfect sunsets. The neighborhood is vibrant, gritty, and alive--a mix of Chinese, Southeast Asian, and Native Hawaiian influences layered over historic buildings, glowing neon signs, art galleries, and hidden cocktail dens. It reminded me a bit of New Orleans: worn facades with stories to tell, creative energy around every corner, and the sense that the best experiences are often tucked behind an unassuming door. Which makes it the perfect home for EP Bar. "EP" stands for Extend Play, a fitting name for a place built around music. Long before listening bars became fashionable in Los Angeles, New York, and London, there were the jazz kissa of Japan--small cafés where people gathered not to drink or dance, but to listen. Records spun through carefully tuned sound systems while patrons sat immersed in the music. The music wasn't background noise. It was the main event. Walking into EP Bar, you can feel traces of that tradition. The room is intimate and inviting. Reservations are highly recommended because the place fills up quickly on weekend nights. Once inside, the atmosphere hits a sweet spot. The music is loud enough to create a mood and provide privacy for conversation, yet never so overpowering that it dominates the room. Loud enough to muffle the secrets being shared between old friends. Loud enough to drown out the office gossip that somehow followed everyone from the coffee machine into happy hour. The soundtrack isn't just playing--it's setting the tone. As an Old Fashioned guy, my choice was easy. I ordered a Oaxaca OF, which swaps traditional whiskey for mezcal. Smoky, balanced, and memorable, it felt like the kind of drink that rewards slow sipping between tracks. Another member of our group went with the Pho Us By Us. To nobody's surprise except perhaps her own, it tasted a little salty. Considering the ingredients--Green Chile Vodka, Sake, Pho Spice, Lemon, and Soda--it was probably the most honest cocktail description I've ever seen. The drink tasted exactly like its name suggested. That's part of the fun here. The menu doesn't hide behind clever marketing. Drinks like Thai Me Down and Candy Rain practically dare you to order them. Not every note landed perfectly. Service was a little off-beat during our visit. But like any live performance, sometimes the rhythm isn't flawless. Thankfully, the vibes, decor, music, and overall experience more than carried the set. What I appreciated most was that EP Bar doesn't feel like a gimmick. It feels like a genuine continuation of a tradition that began decades ago in Japan's listening cafés, traveled across oceans, and found a home in Honolulu's Chinatown. It's a place where music matters, conversation flows, and the pace of the evening slows down just enough to appreciate both. The place slaps for what it is--and for what it isn't. In a world increasingly filled with distractions, EP Bar invites you to do something refreshingly simple: sit down, have a great drink, listen to great music, and be present. I'll definitely be back. After all, every good record deserves another spin, and I'm curious to see how the needle lands next time.
