Came here with some friends after work on a Friday night. None of us had ever tried this restaurant, but it's been on all of our bucket lists, so deciding on a restaurant was a no brainer. Wait time wasn't too bad, considering that it was a Friday night. We got seated after about 20 minutes and got a good table. There wasn't a line to order your food, so we were able to place our orders and get our drinks in a timely fashion. Our food also came out very quickly, which was great, but also wasn't. We ordered some appetizers and wanted to have more time to enjoy them before all of the other main entrees got served, but once the appetizers came, the entrees were at our table in a matter of minutes. Food was tasty but not the best I've ever had. And my drink didn't have much alcohol, if any--definitely not worth the price for just a sugary flavored beverage. As far as the atmosphere goes, it was okay--quite noisy and a bit humid. Had lunch here today and our server Christian was excellent. He said he had just started working there recently. He was very attentive, polite and knowledgeable about the menu. We were saddened to learn that their signature cream pies are no longer on the menu! That's a big part of why we frequent Moku Kitchen. I'm not complaining, but now I'm also not driving . I followed that up with a Peelin Good. Now it has Campari in it, which is bitter asf, but holy hell the balance of this drink was Immaculate! Now for the food. I ordered the fish and chips. Don't ask me why.... But the fish itself tasted great and was battered very well. I'm still struggling to execute fried fish this well. But let me get a little critical here (hopefully constructively). The dish was not served with malt vinegar. I believe it to be an essential seasoning to the fries, but when I asked for it, it was delivered in a small cup. Not a bottle. This presents a risk where the customer may accidentally drown their chips with vinegar and although it's their fault, it's still not a good experience for them. I think Heston or the Not Another Cooking Show guy suggested a spray bottle which is genius in my opinion. Portion size was smaller than I hoped but I'm just hungry like that. My father's pizza also had a bit too much of a flop to it. Being from Chicago, I expect a little bit of a crispier crust. I think this may be a symptom of the oven used or duration of cook. Came in for Sunday lunch. We ordered the caesar salad, pepperoni pizza, and garlic truffle fries. Staff will first take your name down and check for COVID vaccine. Then, you go to the next staff and they will take your order. Self seating. They give you a number/metal stand so staff can bring the food to you when it is ready. We decided to sit at the bar so I could catch some football. The bartender staff was helpful and quick to refill waters and provide condiments. He helped me get a football game on the TV I was watching at, so that was good. The food was good. Not too heavy which was what we were looking for. I believe they have validated parking, but not too sure. We were able to find street parking, and since it was Sunday, we were able to avoid any validation for parking. If you come during the weekdays, I definitely recommend saving time and just going with parking in the structure or lot out front to save time. Parking can get difficult. You order at the bar and pick a seat after. The server will bring everything to your table... and it comes pretty fast too. I understand with the pandemic and maybe they needed to look for ways to cut back on staff, or maybe the lack of staff, they decided to do this, but hey, it worked. Still same food and great service. I have been here so many times, I have lost count! Always a great experience. My boyfriend loves the Kahlua pork and pineapple pizza, as well as the corn chowder. We also enjoy splitting the cheeseburger sometimes. The saimin is my favorite, which is very delicious and fresh! I also enjoyed the sausage and broccoli pizza but i don't like to eat too much cheese so won't probably order again. The kale salad with chicken is the way to go if you want to be super healthy. It is quite scrumptious as well. And if you order the truffle fries I would suggest asking them to cook them a little longer so that they're crunchy. I visited monkeypod in Maui which is their sister restaurant and they have almost identical menus. The truffle fries there were 1000% times better though and the only difference I could tell was they were cooked to be crunchy lol... I also really like the ribeye steak tacos, good flavor there. The fish and chips are alright. My friend likes their taro ravioli and stir fry green beans. My boyfriend always gets a Mai Tai here, he said they are the best Mai tais on the island! Last night was my first time visiting Moku Kitchen. I would say 5/5 out for the food, but a 3/5 for the way the restaurant is run. We put our name on the OpenTable waitlist and started with 19 parties ahead of us. Within about 30 minutes we were moved up having 7 parties ahead of us. Once we were in the spot with 1 party ahead of us, it took an hour for us to get seated. We were confused because we saw people leaving Moku Kitchen and new people getting seated, but we still were waiting. We eventually were seated at 9pm, which was a total of 2 hours of waiting. We would not have waited had we known it would have taken that long. The setup of the restaurant seems unorganized. You order your food, then find a table. In our case there were multiple open tables and we were told we could sit at any of them, which is another reason why we were confused at our long 2 hour wait. Thankfully, the food that we ordered was great. We had the cheeseburger, the mushroom garlic truffle pizza, and the roasted veggie plate. The burger meat was juicy and high quality. The pizza had thin crust and did not have a overwhelming garlic or truffle flavor. The roasted veggies were amazing. There was a ton of different veggies and they were roasted and seasoned to perfection. My favorite dish was the poke with taro chips & sea asparagus. It didn't look great but it was so good and the taro chips tasted homemade. Also got the classic ulu ravioli (which they said they're removing from the menu??) & my favorite drink the (iolani) No Ka Oi: vodka, lilikoi, Thai basil, honey, lime, & egg whites. If you're tryna get a lil wild and take some shots but are like me and actually like to drink things that taste good, I highly recommend their green tea shot! It's Jameson and peach schnapps but tastes just like peach iced tea! My only complaint here is that the food menu is pretty limited so we often end up just getting pizzas to share. Ordered the pork sliders, ribeye tacos and the mushroom pizza... we thoroughly enjoyed all of them, probably the sliders the best as they were tangy, sweet, salty, & spicy. Yum! Enjoyed the tacos very much so too... the beef was nice and tender, they just needed a little salt. A little oily but i just squeezed some of that out! We'll be back. Surprised the average for this place isn't a solid 5?!? Ate here in October 2021, two days in a row (Something I almost NEVER do). The Kailua Pork pizza was consistent and one of the best if not the best pizza I have ever had...although it comes with pineapple, we opted out. Jalapeno Mash - 5 stars and those Mai Tais were incredible. I would take 1 Moku Kitchen Mai Tai over 15 Duke's Mai Tais, they are that good! The staff, setting aside COVID protocols and the inconvenience of having to place your own order at the counter, everyone from outdoor hostess to indoor host, to bartenders - super professional, made us feel appreciated / valued. The food is okay, but the cafeteria style dining they have set up is a no-go. You have to order immediately up front before you even find a table, including any drinks. Not exactly ideal, not to mention when you order your drink they make it right away and set it on the bar feet away where people are lining up to the side of you to order? Moku kitchen has one of my favorite happy hours. They switched up their ordering process since the last time I went. Now you order at the counter and the servers will bring the food to you- sort of like a fast casual restaurant. The food is really good and I like that they incorporate local flavors into their dishes. The sliders had a kimchi sale that went really well with the pulled pork. The taro ravioli was light but creamy and had added goat cheese on top. My go to is always the Parmesan fries - so crispy and fluffy in the middle. I heard so many things about Moku kitchen that I was really excited to try it! Apparently (reading all the reviews) it was really good before Covid, but definitely my experience was different. The first thing is they don't take reservations. I think this would definitely help during Covid as you can spread people out and socially distance better. Service now is very minimal. They seemed grossly understaffed. Once you enter the restaurant they check your temperature, then you look at a paper menu, then you walk down to the bar where you order and then you find and seat yourself at your own table. I hate to say this but it kind of reminded me of a cafeteria. We ordered the fish and chips, garlic truffle fries, and cheeseburger. Burgers and sandwiches here do not include fries. They give you a table number that you place at the table so the servers know where to bring the food. After sitting down at the table I had to wave somebody down to bring us water. They cannot accommodate larger groups. If your group is more than 4 to 5 people you'll have to sit at a separate table and they specifically told me that we cannot socialize with the other table due to Covid restrictions. The food came out and was definitely tasty, but portions are small. Do not come here hungry or you will be disappointed. The fries were soggy, and the lemon wedge that came with my fish appeared old and shriveled. My daughter ordered the cheeseburger and her order came out as the bun and a piece of lettuce. There was no cheese and not even a burger on it! Once I was able to get the attention of the server he apologized and took her plate back. The manager came out and said he didn't know how this happened as "all food goes through at least three people before it comes out to the table". Was this supposed to make me feel better? It's really sad when a cheeseburger entrée comes out without even the burger or cheese and three people looked at it and didn't notice that the burger is missing? Just a stone's throw from the Blaisdell Center (couple bucks for a Lyft or a 15 minute walk) Moku Kitchen was the perfect place for our Pre- Earth Wind & Fire concert dinner. That works for a hamburger place but not somewhere when you are having drinks, pupus, perhaps dessert.It was the first time and I was stressed trying to order because We didnt know what we wanted and there was a long line behind us then the scramble for the table. The good news is that if you want another glass of Lambrusco or later decide on dessert, your waitstaff will take your order and put it on a tab. However if you dont know this - you end up trying to make all decisions in less than 5 minutes. Horrible enough to take a star off. That aside, the drink selection is fantastic (they have Lambrusco..and mead) as is the food. We had the lamb gnocchi, as suggested by one of the waitstaff, which was excellent! Crispy gnocchi in a warm comforting lamb and slightly spicy sauce. The mushroom pizza was really garlicky and cheesy. Delicious and love that the ingredients are all local. The garlic truffle fries were really good - could be slightly crispier and it seemed like we got the bottom of the fries basket with all these little pieces of fries. Not a bad thing, just use a fork. The best part - Strawberry Cream Pie. Not kidding - it was the best pie Ive ever had. The crust was like a warm buttery cookie with silky smooth cream with thin slices of strawberry with a perfectly tart guava jelly/jam mix...omg I want more now. But the service is the worst part , absolutely terrible. Our server Waikalani was so rude and coy the entire time, answering simple questions with such a condescending attitude. To top it all off the hostess came over and tossed the check onto the table over my shoulder, no thank you, no excuse me, no we can collect this when ready, literally tossed it over my shoulder. Finally got to try Moku's! In general, it was enjoyable. The atmosphere was lighthearted. There was a live DJ, playing great beats. The staff were welcoming. So you either make a reservations or join a waitlist. When your party is accepted in, you order your "first round" of food and drinks in the front. They ask for your card to start a tab but won't run the card until you're done. When you close out your tab, you can ask to pay in cash. You then have to find your own seats; there's booths, indoor tables, outdoor tables and bar seating. I assume they reserve tables if your party is big. There will be a waiter or waitress checking up on your table if you want to order anything else. Most of the dishes we tried were tasty, especially the desserts! The pies...chefs kiss. Will definitely go back for that. The only dish that I wouldn't order again was the ham pizza. Crust and texture of the pizza was appetizing. The mixture of the toppings were interesting but sadly underwhelming. It is a great place to try with friends or even as a fun date night. read more

Coming back to Moku as an experience was not ever so pleasant. Being excited for a community hyped place that clearly is busy and bumping with patrons, I was clearly excited for the second time to be returning, but completely and utterly failed in providing that experience. Walking into the restaurant, staff was generally friendly and welcoming, then looking at a extremely small tv menu to order my food was one that confused me with the type of service the price point at a restaurant like Moku had in processing my meal and drink. First, for $13 a glass of bubbly is extremely over priced for a location outside of Waikiki. The fish tacos at $23 for three pieces and no sides was another extreme disappointment since since it was ONE PIECE of cut ahi at a 1 1/2" to 2" was also extremely overpriced, overrated, and messy on presentation. When calling the manager for clarification on the price point, she was friendly, understanding, and helpful but had no reasoning for the overpriced drinks and highway robbery prices on the menu except that the fresh Ahi fish was caught that morning. Though receiving a comp on my beverage which I did not ask for, I am still extremely disappointed in the quantity and price of the food, when I could have gone to Doarku sushi restaurant on Kapiolani or anywhere else, spend triple the amount for amazing food, drinks, and service that is worth its value and price point in the market today. I clearly do not recommend you come to dine at Moku unless you come to happy hour which is limited between 3p-5:30p, but then for 1/2 off on small plates which I'm gonna assume that those are even more disappointing in quantity for the price point. It's a shame owners are robbing locals and visitors of what potentially be an amazing experience. read more

I've been wanting to come to this restaurant for the past two years. So today when I went I had really high hopes... And they met my expectations! This place is like a farm to table style restaurant so the ingredients are locally sourced and the food is a tad different than what you may be used to, for example they have mashed potatoes but they're jalapeño mashed potatoes or something like that and they're green. The restaurant itself looks really nice, they have TVs too. The service is a little different, it's a walk up and order kinda thing just to start a tab. Once you start a tab you can sit at any open table which I thought was kinda cool, then you can order more with the waitress and waiters. There's not just one working your table it's like two in a section and you can get either one to help you if you need something. I like that. The drinks are really strong but they still taste good. I got a golden hour and it was sooo refreshing, almost like you weren't drinking liquor. It's hard to explain. We got the garlic truffle fries which comes with ketchup and some kind of aioli and they could've kept the ketchup because that aioli was so good I never touched it. We also got the pork potstickers, those tasted like most potstickers, but came with a mango habanero sauce which was really good. It has a nice kick to it but it isn't too hot. I got the duck tacos, the duck was so good but the tacos were kind of dry. They come with the mango habanero salsa but I wish there was some other sauce that came on them sort of like the fish tacos. Like a sour cream based sauce or something because unless I drenched it in the mango habanero sauce it was just too dry. But the meat was nice, tender and very flavorful.
