I went here on a recommendation from a friend. Went around 6:00 and it was not busy so I decided to sit at the bar. I was ignored by people who were just standing there so I asked the hostess if I could get a table. She should learn how to be friendly. S he said she wasn't sure she could seat me. There were 6 empty tables and she decided I could sit in the corner by the bar. Waitress was very nice and checked on me often. I ordered the chicken mole enchilada and was surprised when I bit down on an almond. I asked the waitress if there were nuts in the enchilada and she said yes. By my count there were peanuts, almonds and pepitas which were not disclosed on the menu. I think that's risky given the number of people with nut allergies. Anyway the chicken was grilled and not slow-cooked pulled like you would usually get. Personal preference I guess. But the quality of the chicken was below my expectations. Went to MOLE on great recommendations, found the place nearly empty, despite the super cool vibe. Ordered the bone marrow as an appetizer, it came out absolutely incinerated! Sent that one back quite apologetically, and a second came out similarly ruined--the waitress said 'thats the way the chef wants to serve it. Oh my! The remainder of the meal (ordered the mole covered enchiladas) and they were acceptable if not quite good. So my wife and I have been walking El Paseo for years and today we saw a sign of a new Mexican restaurant that is 100% authentic Mexican food and made to order. Forget about all these other Mexican restaurants. We came across this restaurant that has only been open for a year called "Mole" the food is made to order and extremely authentic from all different regions throughout Mexico. Our food took a very long time to be prepared, even though there was very few people in the restaurant. The shrimp cocktail that was supposed to have crab did not have any crab and very few shrimp. After we received our food, the waiter never came back to the table until we called upon him. Our friends have eaten here a number of times and insisted on taking us here. We dropped in for lunch on a weekday. The place was not crowded and we were seated right away. Fast service from Jesus and others. Now for the food. They raved about the chips and they were completely correct. Crispy and a hint of lime sprinkle with yummy salsa. Between 4 of us we ordered 2 different tostadas and an order of chicken mole enchiladas. We ate it all, and were totally happy. I am a mole fan and thought the spices were just right with a little heat and super smooth texture. We went here a few weeks ago and can't wait to go back. I must start by saying that I love Mexican food. I had the chicken enchiladas the sauce was amazing. My husband had the seafood enchiladas and I kept stealing bites. Rather than tortillas chips they had small corn tortillas deep fried. The salsas were very flavorful and lingered on your taste buds. The only downside was it took a long time to get drinks and the food, but they kept the chips coming. They may have been short staffed. The restaurant is nice and the service was attentive. However, do not come expecting authentic Mexican food. We came in on a Tuesday evening for dinner while visiting the area for a work conference. The restaurant was pretty empty and were seated right away. We ordered our drinks, wine and a margarita. We ordered the cornbread to start off with and can say was the only thing worth ordering on the menu. It was warm and delicious made in a cast iron pan. The margarita was ok and I'm glad I ordered wine instead. The ceviche was not ceviche as it was in a tomato based liquid-myself that I am Mexican and my boyfriend that is Peruvian were appalled by what they constituted ceviche. The shrimp chicharrón tostada had too many elements going on and the fried did not make sense to be served on a bed of avocado. At the end I was underwhelmed and not satisfied with the quality of the food. I felt it was overpriced for what they had and the menu does not offer many authentic options. read more

Overall, this was a very unpleasant experience. Mostly, because our server was so unwelcoming and unprofessional. I am on a whole food plant-based (vegan) diet and typically order sides at Mexican restaurants to make a meal, such as rice, beans, pico de gallo, corn tortillas, guacamole. I have never had a problem before and have done this dozens of times at Mexican restaurants. But this waiter (strangely) resisted and strongly suggested I order the only the vegetarian entree, an unappealing succotash. I said I preferred the sides, and he ended up bringing beans/rice and guacamole covered in cheese (!) and the tiniest container of pico de gallo (holding no more than a tablespoon). It seemed passive aggressive. My friend's fish tacos were also poorly prepared. They were covered in so many wet ingredients that she had to eat them with a knife and fork. The restaurant was supposed to be upscale and priced accordingly, but the waiter showed no knowledge of table etiquette. For example, instead of coming to my friend's side to clear her plates, he reached all the way across the table to clear them. Then he stacked all the plates up in front of us. It was very low rent. Go elsewhere. My meal at Adobe Grill at La Quinta was MUCH better, all the way around. read more

Spent 3 days in Palm Desert for golf and was ready for a great higher-end Mexican meal. Mole set high expectations based on the menu and interior photos. Unfortunately they did not deliver. Wanted to start with the Blood Orange Mezcalita, but they were out of blood orange. Hmm. Moved on to the iron skillet cornbread and seared pollo borracho for the main course. The pollo arrived before the cornbread, but I let that go for the time being. The chicken was extremely dry and chewy. What little flavor survived wasn't notable. Could have just been a simple rub for all I could tell. The cornbread finally arrived, and it too was dry and over cooked. Seemed like our food sat under heat lamps for too long. Our server was nice enough (he comped the cornbread), but it was clear that front of house and back of house were not working together. He mentioned the overcooked food to the back and they apparently just shrugged. We ended with the made-to-order churros, which were good but heavy on the filling. The restaurant itself has a nice, open al fresco feel. However, poor food and front/back teamwork is unrecoverable. Save your money. read more

Shady Business Practices! First, our waiter was attentive so this review is no reflection on him. Food was good but not excellent. 3 out of 6 entrees came out luke warm instead of hot. Ambience - it is small, a bit cold. Better than a cafe but definitely not fine dining. However, we would have likely given it another chance. Here's the rub. We were a party of 6. Our bill was significant after appetizers, entrees and cocktails. Our server was very pleasant and we tipped generously over 20 percent. When reviewing our bill a few days later, we noticed an additional tip of 20 percent. So basically, we were automatically charged a 20 percent tip and then we added our own additional tip of 20 plus percent. We contacted the restaurant and the person on the phone who identified herself as the "manager" stated, "sorry you can't read, it is stated on the menu that large parties of 6 or more automatically incur a tip charge". Since when did restaurants start considering parties of 6, large parties? And please, get a manager that is better suited for customer service. Also, when I looked at the menu online, the note about the automatic tip is in small print at the bottom of the menu buried with the statement about food allergies and it states 18 percent, though we were charged 20 percent. Very shady! The restaurant business is a tough business and the desert has many better places. We are all local to the area and not one of us will be returning and we will be sharing our experience with others. read more

Absolutely loved this restaurant. If you are hard of hearing then an indoor table could be rough (try to eat outside) but if your hearing is good and you like a vibrant spot this is it. Drinks were outstanding. At our table 3 different margaritas were ordered and one was just as fresh, well made and delicious as the other. Food was really good! Loved the homemade chips, the salsa and the corn appetizer. Only disappointment was with the guacamole which had almost no flavor aside from avocado. Even the pomegranate seeds on top were not all that flavorful. But the main courses were excellent and the mixed ceviche was some of the best I have ever eaten. Our server Val was a delight. Let's just say wow! I go to a lot of Mexican restaurants in Los Angeles and they are great. This place is another level believe me. After Antonio's on Melrose closed which had incredible mole sauce I never thought I would have good mole again. I tried a MANY others but they were terrible. I've now found my Mole Nirvana! Not only that but everything else had an incredible upscale feel. Even there quesadilla which is not a traditional quesadilla as far as I know in Los Angeles but this was absolutely delicious! When you walk in the restaurant is semi small, very beautiful decor with table seating, two big picture frames to the left and booth type seating to your right. Pleasant lighting all around on the tables and a bar on the left back wall. The seating doesn't seem very practical but, beauty is pain ? The service was great very attentive removed all the plates with urgency as we ate. This was nice since 5 of us were slightly crowded In a booth when they had open tables. All of our drinks came out at the same time, appetizer and entrees came out in a timely fashion. People consistently ensured we were happy and we were. Service was definitely not lacking None of us tried any alcoholic drinks and we were pretty basic with what we got so can't speak on that but no complaints. For appetizers we got chips and salsa and charred esquite. The chips were like mini tostadas they were great had a hint of lime or lemon. The red salsa tasted canned or better way to describe it may be processed/ preservatives not fresh. The esquite was great loved the presentation and the cilantro with pickled onions on it. The menu didn't say it came with it but it was good For food the chicken and steak plates were freaking phenomenal ! All had very good flavor and the marinades left you wanting for more ! The type of potatoes on each of those plates were killer too. One of them had a poblano Chile mashed potato's and the other one had a Hispanic spice take on the roasted potatoes. Any of the enchiladas were much to left desired. The tortillas I doubt were fresh or handmade in any way tasted store bought from Walmart. The rice was a little hard and the beans were slightly underdone too the mole had to much cinnamon I didn't expect it to be completely traditional per say but yeah they can dial back on the cinnamon. Full disclosure This is not an elevated restaurants they just have pretty decor. Better way to describe it would be a slight American/Mexican fusion. Their entrees come with rice and beans but none of their enchiladas plates come with rice and beans .The entree price is well worth it. The enchiladas prices should be considered crime especially since the flavors are just not there. The word "mole" is a word that encompasses such a rich amount of meaning, flavor and tradition that this place truly does not deserve the name nor will it be able to earn the respect of bearing that name. Food was delicious! It was our first time dining in at this restaurant. The food was delicious! We ordered the roasted beef bone marrow the pork Chicharrón and the guajillo beef Tamal. The Roasted beef bone marrow was our favorite with delicious corn surrounding the bone. The Pork Chicharrón was also a great eat! It had a great blend of sweet savory and a hint of spice with the topped jalapeños. The tamale was pretty good but not like nana makes them. The drinks were pretty good I liked that they weren't too sweet and the spicy margarita was actually spicy. New restaurant on El Paseo definitely worth a visit if you appreciate creative Mexican food. The one suggestion I have, is try several different dishes and share. The appetizer menu has so many items worth trying. Crab guacamole, ceviche, and bone marrow on a bed of street corn. Just ask them to bring you a couple of home made warm tortillas. Tacos were delicious and come two on a plate, so you can split. Avocado fries and shrimp tostada were awesome. Our waiter made me a extra spicy margarita... so good and beer is served in tall icy glasses. Love this new addition to the desert. We went with friends to Moles the other night. It's a new gourmet Mexican restaurant in Palm Desert. The decor was nice. Unfortunately the food was not what we expected. We all ordered the mole chicken enchiladas. When our entrees arrived at our table there were only two enchiladas on each plate! That's it for $26.00 dollars!! Everything else , rice/beans etc., is a la carte! Overpriced and absolutely ridiculous! Our Paloma drinks were weak as well.
