I hadn't been back here for a while, but my previous experiences were always positive. I don't eat a lot of sushi, so I can't really speak to that aspect of their menu. Typically, I come for rice bowls and I had the gyudon this time. The rice was sticky yet fluffy and the beef was thinly-sliced, very tender and lightly seasoned with a little pickled ginger on top. My bowl was enjoyable and the staff were so friendly and helpful -- my wife used the word "kind" to describe them. It is more expensive than getting a bowl at one of those places in the food court where they scoop the prepared rice and meat from a bin, but it is also a lot better. Note that the place does not look like much and it is quite tiny. There were a lot of take-out orders serviced while we were there and it appears that some people come for their large sake selection. It's been several years since we've swung by here but it's really worth the stop. It's just a great place to come if you're missing simple Japanese food delivered by the nicest people you would hope to encounter. The interior of the restaurant is very basic but I didn't mind once I had my teriyaki chicken donburi. It's just chicken glazed with teriyaki on a bed with rice but it hits just right. The only thing that would improve it would be the option to add some steamed vegetables. I even got to relive my memories of drinking melon soda in Japan by ordering their melon cream soda. It wasn't quite the same, but still good. More than anything, the two considerate servers made our visit very pleasant. read more

I would say Momo no Hana is one of the better Japanese restaurants in the Phoenix Metro area. It's a small quaint restaurant, the outskirts of Phoenix. They offer a wide selection of Japanese dishes and have a wonderful staff. I ordered agekake, a fried tofu. I've tried making it at home but this was the authentic experience. Small portions but so filling. Miso soup was also great. I've been to Japan before and this was the closest flavor to the food I tasted there. They deserve a bigger restaurant because they're so busy and so good. This is a small, quiescent spot in an unassuming strip mall. They don't take reservations which I assume is because the place has such limited seating to begin with. They have lunch specials which really isn't that big of a discount considering it's still a $16 bento box. The nice thing about this "special" is that it gives you a wide variety of items to choose from to go with your rice and salad. It doesn't even come with miso soup like other places; it costs an extra $2 for that. I tried out their chicken cutlet and tuna roll. The tuna roll wasn't that great and although the chicken cutlet was good, the sauce they poured all over it wasn't of good quality. The bento box comes with a lot of rice. The salad was tasty. I'd avoid appetizers as they give you so little for its price. Service was attentive and amiable. read more

When I went I had ordered a tempura shrimp roll, which was pretty pricey at $10 considering it was only a 6pc roll for something that wasn't so spectacular. Also, I ordered a teriyaki chicken donburi rice bowl which was $13. Which also wasn't so spectacular. To top everything off as I received my order I asked if I could have an extra side of teriyaki for my rice bowl. They expressed to me that they could add it on top of my bowl for me instead of just on the side. I said no thank you and the cashier went back to the kitchen and I could hear multiple employees laughing at me. She said she was asking the owner which means they were also laughing so I will not be coming back here. Do not recommend this place. read more

The sushi was not that good. A 8 piece roll was cut from a Role that was about 4 1/2 in. We had an 6 piece that was the same length. The tempura calamari was not crisp. With fair pricing, diverse menu, and authentic interior, this corner of the parking lot feels like a corner of Japan in the heart of Apache Junction. I can confidently reccomend this place for any item outside of their sushi (it was ok but- not anything to drive here for.) Push your pallet without pushing your wallet, this authentic Japanese comfort/bar food beat out others I've tasted in Mesa/Chandler/Tempe easily. After seeing the high reviews, my husband and I checked this place out. The moment we walked in, the restaurant smelled odd- like a public restroom. Still, we stayed and I ordered sushi, and my husband ordered the yaki soba. It took almost a full hour for us to receive our food, and my meal came almost 15 minutes before my husband's. One of the best Japanese restaurants in Arizona! The place is unassuming and run by a very nice Japanese family. You walk in and seat yourself. The food was excellent. I had to get okonomiyaki because this is the only place in Phoenix that serves it (many places here stopped offering it). The curry rice with karaage chicken was on point. They probably make the best katsudon in the valley. Some items people mentioned on Yelp are no longer on the menu, like the ebi fry curry rice. This place has never disappointed since it opened and is a little hidden gem in the corner of the plaza with minimal signage. Though you'd think a restaurant with minimal signal and in the corner would be a ghost town, it was far from it on a Wednesday evening! I initially was the only patron at 5:15pm, but within the hour I was there the whole dining room filled up. With great food that is freshly prepared at these prices, I can see why! Only $33 for two rolls, a teriyaki veggie bowl, a oolong tea, a dr. Pepper, and a Swiss roll for dessert!!! I try to eat more meatless meals if I'm able, and the service was great to review the menu and advise dishes that didn't have hidden fish paste, bone broths, etc. My selection of items was full of flavor and just amazing overall. Definitely somewhere that I can see myself frequenting and need to remember it's tucked away as it's often out of sight out of mind! Over priced! The food is just so so, but they charge downtown Los Angeles prices for not good quality. The Tempura was terrible, hard as a rock outside, the worst tempura I have ever had!
