    Galbi teppanyaki combo.

"Heyyy, you were probably the product of your parents' New Year's Day ..." Let's not finish that because I, a Virgo, am traumatized. Thanks, J-Wow. I have a brother that has a birthday three days after mine. As we've gotten older, joint-birthdays have become a thing. I don't mind but sometimes we have a difference in opinions on where we want to go to celebrate for dinner. He wants sushi and I want KBBQ. Masa Sushi was our compromise. I liked my meal. It was a Galbi Teppanyaki Combo. It came with fried rice, short ribs (galbi), and tuna rolls. It hit the spot. There used to be a Masa Sushi about half a mile away from my house so it was nice to pop into Masa again. Good eats.

We really like this place. It definitely has a Japanese bar vibe. There are lanterns and lots of Japanese parasols hanging from the ceiling. It definitely is a warmer, more colorful, slightly darker lit place than you'd think in the middle of the day in a strip mall restaurant. Its cozy! There are some likely Japanese chotchkes (like a little daruma) throughout. The coolest thing, though, is what had to be thousands of photos of people who have come here to dine and celebrate. The walls are covered! The menu had quite a few good choices--bentos, boats, platters, and lots more. We chose: *A bottle of Fuji apple sake *Bento E (spicy tuna roll, assorted nigiri, mixed tempura with gyoza, chicken teriyaki) served with miso soup and salad *Bento C (assorted sashimi, tuna roll, salmon teriyaki, mixed tempura with gyoza) served with Miss soup and salad We got a lot of delicious food, and it was a great bang for the buck! Service here is always good, too.

If you want to experience good food, an excellent atmosphere, and exceptional service, you have to come to Masa Sushi. One of the most delicious sushi restaurant in town! 100% recommended

Ichiban Combo with a Rainbow roll and a Caterpillar roll.

The ambiance and service were average, wasn't bad nor was it special. Pictures in the wall were fun to look at. The food was below average. Specifically the miso soup was bad and the some of the sushi was okay and other sushi was bad. Picture shows one of the bad sashimi pieces. The prices seem to match other sushi places, but not worth the sushi we received. Still looking for great sushi in Phoenix

I have been coming to Masa for years! Masa is perfect for a quick lunch out and to avoid the downtown Gilbert crowds. Service can be hit or miss, it seems as though they typically just have one server and one person making sushi. This was the case for our most recent visit so it took a bit for our food to come out and I did have to ask for the check. Masa is a cozy little spot and the sushi is always consistent, love that they provide complimentary miso soup & salad. Some of our favorites include; assorted nigiri, killer shrimp roll, popcorn lobster roll, masa volcano and the crunch roll.

My first time dining here this past weekend. We typically order through delivery. The experience was quite good. It's a mom and pop located in Gilbert, would say the food was very delicious. The price was right as well. We ordered mostly sashimi, hand roll each and toro nigiri. For me, likely the better raw sushi I have had in the closet vicinity. The place is filled with Polaroids of patrons over the years which makes the decor fun. Our server was sweet and was very attentive. Overall I think I would definitely come back!

I always drive by this place and have kept telling myself I will stop by. Well the day finally came and we made a little visit on Friday evening. We were greeted as we walked in but waited a few minutes to be seated. There was one big group, a couple smaller groups, and there were only two waitresses running around. We sat down, ordered some waters, and looked over the menu. We ordered: Two orders of Shrimp Tempura One order of stuffed jalapeños One midnight roll One Mexican roll One crunch roll Miso soup and salad The miso soup and salad came out right away and they were both good. The miso soup was not hot enough though and would've tasted better if it had been! The shrimp tempura and stuffed jalapeños were the bombbbbbbb. The tempura was crispy and hot! The stuffed jalapenos were a creamy goodness and they had a very nice kick to them. Our crunch roll and Mexican roll came out not too long after and we enjoyed them both. The Mexican roll had so much flavor and was very filling. The crunch roll was another fave and we wanted moreeee. The midnight roll was baked and it was finally dropped off when we were done with the other two. The midnight roll was unfortunately a hard pass for us as it was very mushy and left us with a gross aftertaste. We gave it two tries and nope, its still a pass so we left it there... Service was very slow, our waters were never refilled, and it took forever to get our check. The servers were friendly but they definitely seemed stressed. Didn't see a "hiring" sign up front but they definitely need the extra help. We were thanked and said "bye" to from the cooks and servers as we walked out the door which was nice. We will be back on a weeknight next so they wont be as busy!

We have been here several times. They are efficient and the food is good. Last night we called around 7:50 to see if they had room for a party of 3 and they told us they would by the time we got there. When we walked in they already had the table set for us which was awesome. I ordered hot green tea, seaweed salad and the vegetarian combo. The combo was delicious. Unfortunately the seaweed salad was frozen in spots, most likely because they were closing in an hour and didn't have any out. I asked for a new one and they brought it but it was still frozen in some spots. They took it off the bill and took it back. Not a big deal at all, I'm sure it was just because of the time. I usually get it and it's delicious.

Appetizer: Tempura mixed-huge! And very tasty

Stopped by after going to the bike shop a few doors down. It was packed ar 5:15 PM. I ordered the yellow tail sashimi. Perfect temperature and delicious, with a delightful texture. Would absolutely order the gyoza again--finely minced, tender pork. The mixed tempura had onion, sweet potato, zucchini, and shrimp. It was twice the size I expected and super yummy. Although the veggies were served in the traditional tempura way, the shrimp was fried in a different kind of batter, more like a panko. It was ok..and I prefer the traditional tempura style like they cooked the veggies. I will def be back!

I figured a Sunday afternoon would be calm, so I decided to pop in for a solo lunch. What I Ordered: - Yuzu Mule: The drink was delicious and refreshing, so I ordered a second one. Definitely order if I return as well. - Hamachi Lime Roll: This roll had an odd texture to me, and ultimately, I grabbed the rest to go as it was a little off putting to me. The flavor was decent though I found myself wishing there was more crunch with tempura flakes or panko bread crumbs on top. - Crazy Roll: The winner between the two rolls in terms of flavor and preference. Though, I wish this roll had the spicy mayo the other one had. I'd definitely order again and ask for a side of spicy mayo that I could add to the roll. Love the soy paper option! As for ambiance? I thought country music was an incredibly odd choice for this establishment hence the 4 stars versus 5 star review. I'd prefer more traditional Japanese music, or heck, even some J-Rock over American country music. I'm guessing Sunday afternoon is a slower time, so it was employee choice. Overall, I'd visit again when in the area and recommend to friends/family.

Course 2: Spicy Scallop Futomaki/hokkaido scallop / benishoga / chili crisp/ takuan / wasabi mayo. This roll tastes great, scallop tastes fresh and I love the way it was seasoned. However the rice around it was too much that I couldn't taste the scallop fully. I wouldn't get this dish again because of the rice around it was too much. Course 3: Ocean Trout Mi-Cuit/ okinawa potato croquette / citrus cream/fried capers / crispy salmon skin. I love the cream and the capers in this dish. The fish is seared. Although not much flavor in the fish itself but because of the sauce, it complements the dish well. Course 4: Dessert - Yuzu Lychee Sorbet/vanilla whisky hojicha granita. Oh my gosh, this is my favorite dish! It was so good and refreshing! The yuzu sorbet was tart and creamy. And the hojicha ice underneath was delicious! I would come back to the restaurant just for this dish and the first dish!

We arrived a little early, so they told us we could sit at the bar & have a drink. We sat there for 15+ minutes & the girl getting things ready for the bar totally ignored us. Right before we were seated someone else took our drink order & said she'd bring them to the table. Hubby got a beer & I got a Tito's & cranberry juice. We ordered an appetizer. While we were waiting they sat another 4 with us. We all expected dinner & a "show", but none of us expected the show we got. One of the staff started screaming at another staff member. We had no idea what the female staff member was saying since her words were not in English. She was so loud & screaming in the bar area so the entire restaurant could hear her. A couple of staff members tried to claim her dow. This went on for several minutes. It was crazy. All us customers were silent & just looking at the girl screaming & yelling. The next thing we know, round two. It was unbelievable. What was even crazier was they didn't send the staff member home! No one came over & said a word. No one apologized or said anything. After all of this, they sat couple with us. Finally the chef came to the table. By this time it was 20 til 6:00. Hubby got the filet with fried rice. I got the shrimp with fried rice. The food was good. However, hubby's steak was over cooked. Thankfully, hubby told the chef he wanted to change the steak from medium to medium rare, or it would have been even more over cooked. I also watch all of the employees but one prepping the food without gloves. This used to be our go to place for, but now with all this issues this time, we will probably have to find a new place.

The restaurant is fairly large, and seems like a lot of people like coming here for family/friend dinners. Like the name insists, the teppanyaki is the way to go. Their menu isn't that large, so it was pretty easy to make a decision. I opted for the filet mignon (rare) along with shrimp. Teppanyaki is really more of a show/experience, so the food comes out to you in sections (versus all at once like at a traditional restaurant). The filet was so soft, and was perfectly rare, and the shrimp was so good. I think in the future I'd eat a whole plate of shrimp. I also got to try the yakiniku, and that was also pretty good but very sweet. Their Boo Yah Ka roll was also pretty yummy. It's essentially a spring roll, but with some spice and citrus to it. I felt that the portion was good for a large meal, but my friend who got the chef's combo definitely had enough for leftovers.

The menu was 5 courses prix fixe designed by the head chef for this group. The restaurant was closed as a private event. Service was excellent, the food was also so delicious, and cocktails were great too. Shimogamo is one of the few Japanese restaurants in the valley that remind me of eating Japanese food in Japan. It's well prepared, fresh, and high quality. The cocktails are creative and nods to Japan with delicate flavors and unique ingredients. Our courses were: started with the truffle amberjack which is a flavor bomb, very rich and truffle forward. Which I don't always enjoy but when paired with amberjack, it was great. 2nd course was a nigiri plate- 4 choices: sea bream (which I love), a fancy type salmon, toro, and couple pieces of the wagyu roll. Next onto a darn near perfect crab croquet that was creamy with big pieces of crab and perfectly fried, and main course was K4 ranch Wagyu from Prescott. Very buttery and delicious. We ended with a matcha basque cheesecake. The chefs talked about the food, answered questions, and talked about their background. It was an enjoyable dinner and we will be back for the "oysters and cocktails" hour they were promoting. I love both of those things.
