If you're looking for a quick in and out kind of restaurant, this ain't it. But here's the greatness. I went there on Father's Day and there was NO long line. Only the wait for our order was long (at least an hour), which should be expected for a Sunday and holiday. But it was all worth it. The food is great and the staff are very professional. The food is not kept at the right temperature! I got rib tips and the first thing I noticed was they were lukewarm. I figured because it was BBQ that it's probably not too hot so I brushed it off. Then I started to eat my macaroni salad and I noticed that about halfway through it was sour at the bottom. I felt disgusted that I had eaten the first half and it tasted fine. When I finally got to the sweet potato pie I noticed it was hot. This wasn't made fresh by them so why was it hot? I came to the conclusion that the food isn't being stored at the right temperature. The hot things aren't hot enough and the cold items aren't kept cool. There's no way I should have hot pie, if anything it should be cold. The BBQ itself is still tough and too saucy. It had a good smoky flavor but I didn't want to get sick so I stopped eating everything. If they can't get the temperature right then I'm not sure about anything else. Not coming back here! DARK MEAT CHICKEN LOVERS BEWARE! The food is good but management/ownership is terrible and sucks. Over 20 years as a customer and in the last few years, they do not accommodate requests for dark meat chicken on their meals. Their cheapest meal on the menu starts at $11, average is $14. I got a BBQ chicken wing dinner and the wings tasted old, like they had been sitting in the freezer waiting on someone to buy them. You can tell they were reheated and served. Yes, this place is located in 'hood part of South Los Angeles, but it was some barbeque I was willing to try. It is a short drive from the 110 South, Imperial Highway exit; and when I went there it was a nice Saturday afternoon. A family pulled up straight from the beach, and a nurse finished her shift and wanted some BBQ. Both said Mom's is the best. I have family right around the corner, so I ordered a 33 piece beef rib order. I had my aunt with me and she saw the beef heated and drenched with the mild BBQ sauce. Our order came with a side order so we went with potato salad. When we arrived back to my Aunt's place, I opened the bag to find the sauce oozing out of the container and into the paperbag and it came with four slices of bread, napkins, and two forks. My immediate reaction was to laugh, "Auntie, they thought these 33 piece BBQ was just for me and you!" And so, my family (that was 10 people altogether) shared the ribs and the potato salad. Not bad. The meat came off the bone quite nicely and the mild sauce was not hot at all. I could, though, very well have smoked ribs myself and dip it in sauce as what it seems like Mom's BBQ did, but having the meat fall off the bone the way it did says enough to me to want to try it again. If the 'hood frightens you, show up during the daytime and place an order. Otherwise, give it a shot (no pun intended). Use cash. Order quickly. It pains me to have to write such a review as I've been coming here for over 15 years. And in those years never have I ever been told that you can't order the same meat on a two-meat combo! I was floored when my husband called me and told me that. The person taking the order said she has been employed there for 16 years and she's never let people order two of the same meat...Okay lady if you say so. Another issue is you guys seem to have stopped caring about your product when you start serving cold meat and covering it up with hot bbq sauce. This place has become a hit and miss for me. There are other popular BBQ spots that I have tried but no one, I mean no one can outdo this location. There prices are very reasonable and the portion sizes would make you hurt yourself. Their sauce is "lick your lips delicious". Customer services is A1 (no pun intended). Fabulous spot to eat some real BBQ. Our parents have gone overseas and we're left to our own smoky devices-type BBQ. The lady at the counter doesn't say too much and me being the sentient-type from overseas, I can smell the resentment. Not anymore though, because there was a time I'd just order styrofoam cups of all their sides, but now I get the whole meal and she has softened to my plight a little bit. But its my fault for not looking at my order before I left Moms and waited till I got back to Riverside to check my order thats on me. But its on you to have a better quality of beef ribs just like you got a good quality of pork ribs. I pulled into the parking lot and before my foot hit the pavement I was accosted by a woman who wanted 40 cents. My brain replied, "What will 40 cents buy her?" It's a hole in a wall place... (With apartments facing the parking lot) No outdoor seating but, there is a parking lot where you see everyone eating inside their cars! LOL The food portions were big, the BF and I had to share, a to go plate. We got the pork ribs, the sauce on it was too sweet for me. The side portions were small, for the amount of meat they put on the plate. The macaroni pasta was very good and even the potato salad! All their drinks are cans sodas only!!! 4 stars. Smoky BBQ, what a treat! I was somewhat in the area and gave myself an excuse to seek out Mom's BBQ. It's pretty much in the same category as Jay Bee's in Gardena, though JB has a slightly upper hand with the ribs and sauce, I think. (Although Mom's has the upper hand on service... yes, even at just take-out level.) You can definitely smell the hickory smoke upon walking up to the order window. The parking lot was only about two-thirds-full, but there were a few cars that were parked crooked over a few spots and along the wall, so it just appeared more chaotic visually, plus it's inner-city-ish... During my short wait after having placed my order, there was a Springer-esque scene going on in the apartment building nearby... 90210 it ain't. The prices are competitive and include taxes. I didn't notice any seating outside (or inside) the store, just order and pick-up windows. There was a short line but my order was taken promptly by a friendly clerk. I got a slab of pork ribs and a rib tip dinner, beans, slaw, macaroni salad, and both hot and mild bbq sauces. The ribs were smoky and had good flavor, were slightly on the lean/dry side (I asked for sauce on the side). Same for the rib tips, as expected. Beans were fine, and the other sides were pretty good but did not really stand out. The mild sauce is the one to have as the hot one really packs a kick... almost too much for bbq, for my taste (and I'm a fan of capciacin). Good ol' Wonder bread came with the order. The order was well-packed. Verdict: smoke is king, sauce is good, ribs a bit on the dry side... but flavorful. Best enjoyed with a cold one... or two (but you'll have to get your own at home.)
