When I was younger I used to love Mom's. Any chance I would get I would get the Mom's Special and love it. Recently, I was down in South City and I picked up a sandwich. I could barely contain my excitement and after I took my first bite I knew I'd been a sucker all those years. The sandwiches consist of 50% dressing, 49.5% bread, and 0.5% cheap meat. I hate to complain about the cheapness and lack of meat because the sandwiches are so inexpensive. But I'm going to anyway. It really does have a great atmosphere though and you're in and out in a couple of minutes. I'll always have a special place in my heart for Mom's but as for my stomach I'll go elsewhere. read more

Good sandwiches, reasonable prices. They use a mixture of mustard and mayo as their spread and at times they put it on a little thick for my taste, so I request that they go light on the spread. But that's just personal taste. Lines can get long in the middle of a weekday, especially if the weather is particularly nice. But they move quickly. Seating is limited to a few tables outside. Again, those fill up fast on a beautiful weekend afternoon, so plan to get your meal and take it elsewhere to dine. read more

Went and picked up some sandwiches on a Saturday at lunch time. Line was over a half hour long, which seemed to be a good sign. Girlfriend got the Mom's Special while I got the meatball. The dressing used on the Mom's Special was delicious, but everything else was typical, nothing special. The sandwiches are huge, buts its mostly bread, which taste like just regular bread. Go to Mom's Deli if you want a sandwich you could have made yourself, but were too lazy to go to the store and get all the stuff. read more

Nothing tastes better than a fresh hoagie! The bread is always the most important factor... and Mom's does it every time! In Scranton, PA, hoagies are like a staple of the region. They are good pretty much everywhere you go. In St. Louis, it's all chains and they all kinda taste the same - processed and unoriginal. At Mom's you get that fresh taste of the bread and the meat and cheeses and sauces... uhhhhhhh it's so good. The only thing you have to remember before you go is that they do not accept credit cards. They have an ATM, but it's just easier not having to fumble around with that. Cash only and you are set! Mom's Deli is a south city institution. Their prices are good, good service, and very fresh tasting sandwiches. We like the Mom's Special at our house. I'm not a sandwich eater but I love these. If they are crowded be patient & prepare to wait, but it is worth it. While you are there take home some of their homemade Italian sausage & their homemade Italian breakfast sausage. The breakfast sausage is unbelievably lean & flavorful. I cannot go back to store bought. Good people making good food. read more

So I have been there twice now. It is OK and convenient to where I live but definitely nothing special. They use the fast method of heating sandwiches; they microwave so the bread is soggy. Mom's is a tradition for so many St. Louisan's and I've been going here for years. The sandwiches are huge and there is a wide variety to choose from. I always get the Mom's Special with everything and have never been disappointed. The 1000 Island dressing can't be beat, and one sandwich gives you 2 meals! If you are able to catch Mom's at a good time you can get a very good, nicely priced sandwich. If you come at a bad time expect a nice little wait. The inside is cramped and sometimes the line goes out the door. The only sandwich I get is the Mom's Special and it never seems to disappoint. Cash only is the one negative. read more

I've had my eye on Mom's Deli ever since I moved to the city. I live in the area, and pass it pretty much every time I have to run an errand. This week I FINALLY tried it out, and it was great! Their prices were amazing for the amount of food you got, and they had quite a bit of variety on the menu. I got the Mom's special and my husband got the hot roast beef with gravy. Mine was awesome- all of the ingredients tasted fresh. I will say that I was not impressed with the potato salad or the macaroni salad- I'd skip out on those. This is a south city institution. Many people grew up eating Mom's, sadly I did not. We live super close and I'm glad we do! It's convenient to pop in and pick up sandwiches, drinks, and sides to go. I have lived in the area my whole life, and there is a common argument. Who has a good sandwich? Moms is not the place for me. The quality of the meat is just bad and tiny amounts, the staff is usually clueless, and the setup of the deli is just strange. I have always had a great experience with this place until today. Called in my order and went to pick it up. First walked in and didn't see a single person wearing gloves thought well no one at the moment was making food so hopefully they had just taken them off. Though with what's going on every other food place has employees wearing gloves all the time. Then got home. Fish sandwich had nothing on it but what looked like a frozen fish patty warmed up. No cheese or tartar sauce as requested. Then the eggplant Parmesan had a wrapper inside of it or so I hope that was a wrapper not part glove. So now 2 family member throwing away food. Then the veggie sandwich which is my favorite had nasty tasting end pieces of tomatoes. Plus the whole sandwich tasted off. It had so much sauce threw it away. And this is the sandwich I always ordered. I was trying to support a local business during the shut downs but I'm not going to be back here for awhile if again. I love Mom's Deli. It is locally owned and provides several great sandwich options. In addition, there are some groceries available, such as soup, beer, ice cream and more. There is no way a chain could have the same ambiance. Best of all, it is within walking distance for many who live in South City St. Louis. Just had to write a review as I was eating my moms special because it's so darn good! All of the flavors just compliment each other so well especially when I add mustard. That homemade thousand island though!! It's about a 15 minute drive from where I work but well worth the drive. Would go atleast once a week if it was closer. Also great price for size of sandwich, my meal was under $15 for 2 moms specials and a bag of chips. Just grand! read more
