Shrimp Egg Foo Young Egg Roll

I ordered the shrimp egg foo young and egg rolls. The patties I don't feel were equally the same size. The egg rolls were tasty. Intimate restaurant setup. Loved the updates for my online order.

A favorite since 2006! This week Mon Lung catered our office's Lunar New Year lunch for 50 people and it got raving reviews! It feels high end for such a cozy spot! Great ingredients, large portions, and friendly staff that was easy to work with. A must stop spot when I'm in the neighborhood!

I placed an order for takeout and it was ready very fast. The restaurant is closed to dine in. The hunan chicken was good and had a nice spice to it. The mon lung beef was good too but tasted too similar to the hunan chicken.

Okay, I'm a fan! I've only ordered take-out here once on a whim, but I have a hunch that Mon Lung will be a more consistent presence in my life. It was getting late on a Tuesday night and I didn't have food prepared at home. My go-to Asian spot around the block was closed on Tuesdays so I was on the hunt for something quick, close, yet would hit the spot for Chinese comfort food. I remembered reading somewhere online that a chef really liked the chicken here. I wouldn't be able to tell you which chef or where I read this, but that fact always stuck in the back only head. I just didn't have the opportunity to venture to Mon Lung until now... since it was just far enough away to be outside of my usual radius for something quick. If you're paying by credit card, you would need to order online. Their website connects directly to slickmenus.com and it was really easy to order. I ordered: A small hot & sour soup A mapo tofu (one size) A large orange chicken I was very happy. This food was so comforting. In my opinion, there are maybe just 1 or 2 spots in Wicker Park that provide that authentic mom & pop style, cooked in a wok, don't need extra packs of fake soy sauce, comes-with-white-rice-without-needing-to-ask kinda place. I didn't order this famous chicken that a chef had mentioned before (I think it must be their "Mon Lung Chicken") so I'll have to order that the next time. I'm already eyeing their Hunan Beef, Hong Kong Steak, and Szechuan String Beans. A note: their hot & sour soup is on the sweeter side (versus sour) and that was new to me but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Their mapo tofu also had shrimp in it (also new for me) and had more of a gravy sauce versus a chili-oil and doubanjiang/ spicy bean sauce as the base. It was not spicy, but maybe their style is more distinctly Cantonese and mild? My habit is to always attribute a reason to something or at least try to find a reason but in this case I don't know. I still really liked the food. I feel that it is good in my bones and it's a variation of the food I grew up eating. To sum it up, Mon Lung is the perfect place for quick mid-week Chinese take-out ... AND they are open Tuesdays!

    Shrimp and broccoli lunch

We ordered shrimp and broccoli lunch, orange chicken lunch, salt and pepper shrimp and everything was meh. The food came quick but o thing was good even the shrimp fried rice.

Beef & pea pod, chicken fried rice and a veggie egg roll.

Best Chinese restaurant in Chicago. No surveys or further reviews/opinions needed. Egg rolls: out of this freaking world. Chicken fried rice: out of this freaking world. Beef & pea pod: out of this freaking world. Orange chicken: out of this freaking world. Pick any menu item: out of this freaking world. I've eaten at dozens upon dozens of Chinese restaurants in Chicago and out of state, and Mon Lung is still, hands down, the best ever. Nothing comes close or remotely compares. Do yourself a favor and just place an order... you are welcome!

So we both Kung pao chicken and beef over rice, yes we got size small but wowwwwwwwwww it's nasty, overpriced and miniature size, oh and nothing came with rice....oh and thanks for NO NAPKINS OR I DONT KNOW SPOON/FORK, yes I'll eat with my hands.

We ordered like the PERFECT amount of food and best variety. Roast duck: I honestly don't know if I've ever had duck before, but I'm a duck believer now. The skin on theirs was the perfect crispy shatter texture and the duck was sooooo juicy! I don't know why I was always so worried about it being gamey. They give you fluffy steamed bao buns, a sauce, and scallions on the side as well as duck fried rice! Turnip cake: Obviously a must any time I come to dim sum. I've never seen turnip in any other form than this. Japanese salt & pepper tofu: My FAVORITE dish ever. Any fried salt & pepper tofu always makes me happy. They use a creamy egg-like tofu and the outside is lightly crispy with amazing aromatics stir fried in. Steamed white rice on the side is perfect with this. Loved everything else my dinner buds picked and we were super full by the end! Service was good and food came out fast and scorching hot! ***Parking in the area is treacherous (not the restaurants fault, but reconsider driving if possible bc cell signal can be zero to none around the garages if you get lucky) ***Their website allows you to request a reservation as long as it's 3 hours before your desired time. We came on a Saturday evening around dinner time and there was plenty of room for us to get a table immediately as walk-ins!

Please be advised, they do not take Apple Pay!…read more Both the egg yolk buns and shrimp friend rice were delicious! I went on Sunday afternoon and there were few parties dining in, so we were able to sit and get our food quickly.

Potstickers: Nice thin skins, good crunchy pan fry on the bottom, slightly underseasoned filling. Sautéed bok choy: Crispy and light with a hint of garlic, easy and healthy. Biang Biang noodles: Interesting mix of strong flavors, which weren't quite my favorite. I found it to be a touch too salty, and I was surprised by the tomato. Trialing the thin noodles was probably the wrong move; the thick hand pulled ones would've stood up to the savorineas much better. Large portion. Beef noodle soup: The thick hand pulled noodles were homey and delicious, just the right texture with some alternating thin and thick chewiness that reminded me of home. The beef noodle soup was quite light without any real beef flavor, though comforting nonetheless. Some pieces of beef were chewier and not completely cooked through while others were tender and melt in your mouth. I'd return when in the mood for a bowl of thick hand pulled noodles and maybe some healthy sauteed vegetables.
