I don't know if they change their chef or prep cook because even the coleslaw isn't as creamy as it used to be being that I am gluten-free I always get the cauliflower wrap the past two times. I have been to Monarch multiple times for breakfast, all with good food and service. However, a recent trip has made me consider never going again. This particular instance I went with a party of 9 people for dinner. The diner was not crowded at all, yet we were sat at a table with an inadequate number of seating arrangements and utensil settings (had to request twice to get the proper amount of utensils). Usually dinner guests get bread baskets, but we never received any even after asking multiple times. Our server failed to deliver any sides requested and also got our friend's order wrong - he asked for the 4 course NY Strip Steak meal but got an improperly cooked steak and only 3 courses. We were also sat under a leaking ceiling vent that dropped water on a few members of our party. That issue was not resolved after alerting our server. We noticed throughout our time there that the servers in our section were sitting and chatting with other tables while on shift. We asked 3 servers for various items previously requested but did not get them during our stay. Our food was not good and the service even worse, so I am probably not going to Monarch ever again. read more

I have had great service here until today. The servers were great however management was rude. We brought a cake in and they informed us we couldn't eat it. The manager then proceeded to come over multiple times staring over our shoulder then the owner came out and gave us a stalker stare. I eventually said something because we felt uncomfortable. I tried this sad excuse for a diner twice and they failed miserably both times. On the first visit I had their Italian trio. The lasagna tasted like it had taco meat inside and smelled awful!! The service on this night was average at best. On the second try I ordered the Reuben sandwich and asked to substitute onion rings for French fries. This was apparently against their policy and they tried to up-sell me a $7.00 order of onion rings, my whole sandwich was $9.00. I accepted their ridiculous house rule and the sandwich came with fries. After I got my meal another manager came over and attempted to justify their substitution rule. This guy, who had a full beard, proceeded to argue with me and aggravated me to the point that I didn't even eat my dinner. The owner then came over and also attempted to calm the situation. All of this over 4 onion rings!! What happened to the customer is always right. Needless to say I left without having eaten, I still tipped my waitress since she was apparently caught in the crossfire. After two failed attempts, I recommend driving down the road and eating someplace else!! There was no reason to escalate this to the point where it ended up. The managers need more training. I was really looking forward to trying this place when I saw that they have a cauliflower substitute for panini bread. The food is the reason for 3 stars. To be honest, if I was basing it off of service alone, it would be a 1 star. I came here tonight with my husband and son for dinner. When we sat down, my husband immediately went to use their restroom and said it was unusable. There were feces all over the toilet seats. He came out to ask an employee if it could be cleaned so he could use it. That employee was the African American woman who runs the front counter. She was extremely rude to him and said someone would get to it "later". He didn't want to wait so he basically went in and cleaned the stall himself so he could use the restroom. He was in there for 20 minutes or so before finally returning to the table. I had ordered our drinks in the meantime, and our waitress came back with just my son's drink and my drink. She forgot my husband's until he asked for it. She was a nice lady, but was very forgetful. When dinner was brought out, she asked my husband if he wanted some grated Parmesan cheese for his Chicken Parm and he said yes. She never brought it. It wasn't even that busy in the diner. In addition to this, it was a bit annoying sitting so close to the bus boys' dumping station where they put all the used plates. They made no attempt to do it respectfully.. they basically tossed them and it was pretty loud. As we were nearing the end of our dinner, apparently we weren't the only ones that had an issue with the rude African American woman working the front counter. There was a customer having a screaming match with her as she was trying to pay (over God only knows what) and the cops were called into the restaurant. Not a great way to end an already mediocre experience, and not something that was acceptable for my 5 year old to witness. To make light of the situation, the food is pretty good. Not cheap, but I do like the vegan and bread substitute options they have. It's a shame that the employees lack just about everything you'd expect from a food service worker. We pulled a chair over for an extra person than were told we couldn't do that because we were blocking the aisle. The exceptionally large aisle with more than enough room for the person on the end. The food was sub par to say the least. My grilled chicken sandwhich was too salty to eat. Most others in our party were equally disappointed in their orders. When it came time for the check we were told it could not be split other than for the number of tables we ended up at (3). The entire time we were there we were made to feel as if we were a bother and inconvenience. Our large group eats in the area twice a year and tip very well (not this time!). This was our first visit. The menu is very modern and that was a pleasant surprise. They do have all the basics in play for those who wish to embellish. I however went for the sausage egg skillet with chipotle aioli. It was very good. Nice portion size. The only criticism would be about the potatoes. They were deep fried. In a area with a multitude of excellent diner choices it's good to see someone take over the old PB's and enter into the fray. Went here on a Sunday morning the first week they were open and was very pleased. AMBIANCE: Layout is pretty much like the old PBS but the decor is much brighter and more open. However, it's still a diner and so expect that you're going to be sitting near other customers and the service staff are going to be whizzing by your table all the time. SERVICE: A lot of brand-new waitresses working with an expected opening-weekend made things a bit frenetic but apart from the kitchen being a bit slow my waitress was incredibly attentive. MENU: Not like the encyclopedias that some diner menus have become, nice manageable variety of typical diner food. FOOD: Excellent. Well-prepared & presented. Large portion size. First let me start by saying that I really liked this restaurant. It has so many options to choose from for the whole family. Usually when I go, it's in the morning or afternoon. The DAY-time manager is extremely nice and has the best customer service skills. She's very personable. I come to this diner at least 2 times a week. Each time I bring someone new. Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience tonight out with my 4 children. I met one of the most rudest manager's I've ever met. My son ordered a "Mikey Mouse" meal (which is breakfast) off of their menu. He found egg shells in his eggs and we asked for them to be returned and brought fresh. They did! Great! My extremely NICE waiter proceeded to let me know that the eggs would be taken off the bill. Great thanks! The bill comes, but the eggs are still on there. I asked him if he could bring an updated check with the eggs removed. The waiter says, "Oh okay. let me go change that." The manager, Mr. Nick comes over and proceeds to tell me that he is not taking the eggs off the bill ($3 by the way) because they brought fresh ones to me. While trying to explain a similar situation with hair in my salad from a previous visit and the fact that the really nice DAY-time manager removed the salad completely off my bill AND brought me a new one FREE OF CHARGE, he continued to try and shut me up by telling me to have a nice day. I grew extremely upset, I sent the eggs back and asked him to take the eggs off of my bill THIS TIME! He continued to try and get me to stop talking and cutting me off. Then rudely, pulled up a chair saying " You want to talk, we can talk all night, let's talk". Extremely rude. His tone, his demeaner and his attitude was completely uncalled for, especially in front of my children. Very rude. I walked up to pay my bill, asked the girl for her manager's name, Mr. Nick comes out from the back again STILL pushing me out of the door saying "Have a nice night". THIS restaurant needs a replacement night time manager who cares a little more about his customers and takes time to listen to them. We asked to speak with the manager and showed him the bug. He was not at all interested in the bug and stated that this happens with imported lettuce all the time it's fine to eat. We told him we had lost our appetites and was leaving. He became very rude raising his voice that we were leaving and not staying to eat the main course that was on it's way out. He yelled I've wasted $100 on the food that was prepared for you and your leaving never apologizing for the bug or I'll comp you a dinner, nothing like that just yelling at us following us through the restaurant out of the front door and telling us to never come back to his restaurant. Ordered a split order of wings-5 parmesan garlic, 5 buffalo-they had a lot of breading and little, dry meat-and somehow, not much flavor. They were also greasy and/or mushy. Ordered a hot roast beef sandwich with au jus...meat was dry, flavorless and chewy; the au jus was only ok. The roll was stale. Fries were decent-but zero salt! You have to salt them right out of the fryer or it doesn't stick! Coleslaw was, in my opinion, a little too sweet. The tables, salt and pepper shakers and menu's were clean. If I could give 0 stars I would. My fiancé and I just moved to the area last year and came here all the time for breakfast and it was great. Since the coronavirus (I can assume), monarch has gone way down hill. I came a few weeks ago and placed a large to go order. For myself I got a burger. It smelled like wet dog and tasted awful. I called and mentioned it to them. I didn't want a refund or new food, I just wanted to let them know. From working at restaurants, myself and the staff have always appreciated someone calling to give feedback even if it was negative. Who knows. If it was bad meat then we could nip the problem at its bud. The waitress on the phone wouldn't send me to a manager, told me it must have been bad ground meat and that was it. I swept it under the rug as them trying to pick back up, and it happens. Today my fiancé picked up 2 breakfast meals to go as well. My egg white and mozzarella omelet tasted like fish. I mentioned it to him and he said it smelled like fish too. I called and asked for a manager however a server answered the phone and made an attempt to handle this issue. She said that it must have been cooked on the same grill or near a place where nova lox or other fish was cooked. I asked her opinion on the issue it would present if I or someone else has a fish allergy. She told me I should have asked first. let me note that I placed this order online and no where does it state that these items may have been cooked somewhere that could inflict with an allergy. Anyway, she also mentioned that in "this industry" they don't have the privilege of using different fryers or grills especially for allergies. This is not true. I have been serving for at least 10 years and working in numerous restaurants. There is ALWAYS a fryer or area of a grill that is used especially for shellfish or fish allergies. Again, I didn't want a refund or something new. I thought it would be a decency to call and notify them. Nothing she said made sense and after 2 strikes in 3 weeks, I'm done. To start off, my food was delicious. I got the filet chicken sandwich with bbq sauce on the side, it was out of this world. Next the waitress was great and service was fabulous too. But one thing brought this down a lot was the customers next to us. Even though I should not talk for anyone, they were outrageous. So first they are a vegan family, nothing is wrong with that. But what gets me is that when you are sitting next to them and on your table is chicken, beef and salmon, you get all the looks. So when I decided to take my lettuce and tomato off my chicken sandwich because I was not feeling it, the younger girl I could feel giving me a dirty look and staring at me, so I look up at her and she finally looks up and we are dead eye to eye; so I give the look of like really what are you doing, that type of look, so she turns away. In about another minute, one by one each family member keeps looking over our plates to see why we are eating these types of proteins. The jist of the story is that I do not care if you are vegan or not, that's your decision and I will respect that, BUT! It's another things to keep staring at the table near you and giving dirty looks because there not eating vegan like you! read more

I am so disappointed by what just happened at this Diner. I never leave reviews but I am so astonished by the nerve of this place. My kids wanted pancakes so we decided to come to the monarch. They ordered their Mickey Mouse pancake and the waitress asks them if they'd like chocolate chips on it, they both nod. She says how about bananas, one nods. After eating we get the bill and I am completely alarmed by what I see, I figure it has to be a mistake. The small handful of chocolate chips on ONE pancake is $3.50. Both of my kids said yes to the chocolate chips so I was made to pay a total of $7.00 for chocolate chips on their pancakes... and if that wasn't enough - the bananas, which was the equivalent of half a banana, $2.95! I felt so taken advantage of... Two Kids pancakes turned out be $19.00! I will never eat here again. Seriously, I am baffled at how any establishment can think that is ok. I brought it to the attention of the staff and they looked embarrassed to say, yes, we're sorry but this is true. Even they knew it was insane! Never will they see another dollar from me.
