Awesome diner. I ordered a salad with chicken. Solid, fresh, quality greens. Chicken breast was tender and well seasoned. My boyfriend loved his crab Benedict (off the specials/brunch menu.) We ate at the Monarch Diner today and it was a very pleasant experience. First off our waitress was phenomenal and that is no exaggeration. Very polite, friendly, helpful and patient when we were taking awhile to order. Couldn't have asked for better service. Very disappointed with service after I called about my full take away platter which I accidentally left (my mistake) however, I called 10 mins later to ask if I could pick it up and was told it was thrown away, the girl hadn't even checked before she made the claim. Then she gave me to a manager and he tells me "don't know what to tell ya pal" I spent $200 bucks, at least you could offer me a coupon or a dessert. customer service goes a long way with me, I understand the food may Have been thrown away, but acting like you care can make the difference. The service and food from this diner are both out of this world. My food came out quickly, was a good portion size and tasted amazing. I also recommend mimosas if your 21+. The service was outstanding and the prices were more than reasonable. My only complaint is that the diner does not serve breakfast at every hour. It's very busy there, but the wait wasn't too long. Carl was a great waiter; he was patient and answered all my questions. Paying the check at the front caused a bit of a bottleneck since there was only one register to scan the checks. The food was really good. Hostess was miserable! She rolled her eyes and exchanged words with the shift manager as she sat us. My mother wanted to move tables and I asked 'Miss Sunshine' if we could. She said "you'll have to come back up front" ok, so I walk back to the table to tell my mother and she follows me and says to my elderly mother "get up!" I go to the monarch Diner at least once a week in Glassboro service is very good food is very good very clean very respect for greeters and great server personalities but aside from all those good things there is one thing that the owner chef or chef please don't put so much salt in your soups I love your soups but there's just so much sodium in there the first thing you taste is the salt the sodium and it kind of turns you off I've tried the soups three or four times now still the same please tell the chef!! read more

The server, when she finally arrived, greeted us, but went to the next table (which was empty), so that was confusing. She told us she just came from the bathroom. Umm, ok, not sure why we needed to know that. She went out of her way to bring me a sample when I asked how a veggie on the menu was prepared. That was very nice. We ordered our food and I ordered a cocktail from the list on the table. The food came after quite a long wait. Luckily we weren't in a rush, but it was lunchtime, so something to consider in the future. I ordered ribs. Although they smelled good and the meat fell of the bone, the meat was good, but there was so much sauce on them! She didn't even bring extra napkins. My husband asked for some. The sauce was cloyingly sweet. It was so thick on there that I tried to scrape most of it off, then wound up using one of the napkins to wipe away more sauce. Way too sweet. Wound up asking her a second time for the cocktail I had ordered. She said, "Oops, which one was it, again?". I showed her on the list and she said she forgot. The bartender herself brought it over and was very nice and even took the blame onto herself for the wait. A few minutes later, she came back to see how I liked it. The bartender was wonderful. We've eaten at this establishment for years, starting back when it was PB's. Since this has become Monarch the service has suffered. Today we encountered employees and Management that could not care less about their customers. We were married last night and made arrangements to have breakfast this morning, for 18 We know that Monarch does not take reservations so we made an arrangement to call ahead when we all were leaving the hotel and that the entire group would arrive at the same time. Confirmed this and let hem know at 9am that the group would be there 10:30am and the number was 20. My entire family walks in and despite having our name, the number of guests, and the arrival time clearly written on a piece of paper with the hostess my group was told our table wasn't ready. Fine, no problem, it'll be a few minutes. An hour later they seated 15 of us and said they were waiting for people to leave so they could seat the remainder of our group. When I approached the manager and expressed my displeasure. I was told that we weren't seated for over an hour because we had 20 in the group and we called ahead for 18! Well, 4or 5 already left because they couldn't wait so that's bulls**t. The response was priceless. Sir, you cursed. I'm going to ask you to leave. Oh ok. Food and menu are pretty much the same as the old Lamp Post Diner in Blackwood. Service is horrible. Still workinv out the kinks and the food is not as good as the Lamp Post. My friend and I were excited about going to the Monarch Diner in Glassboro, NJ. We enjoyed the restaurant that previously occupied this location so we felt good about going. We both ordered burgers well done. Neither of our burgers were served well done. Even after asking the burgers to be cooked more, they were returned pink in the middle. The manager informed us that the burgers were cooked as much as possible. My friend and I decided to leave. We ended up at Seven Star Diner who was able to serve well done burgers on the first pass. read more

We had a delightful, waitress, Shannon. She was the very best part of our visit. We were motivated to try the Monarch because of their supposed vegan menu (we are not vegan, but we do lean that way for health reasons). First off, I asked for plant milk for my coffee. Shannon came back and told us they had had almond milk before, but now they didn't. So we had to lighten our coffee with dairy creamer. Note to owners: if you are going to advertise vegan options, you need to have plant milk available at all times. Then we looked at the breakfast menu, and there wasn't a vegan option in sight. We told Shannon we were puzzled, due to the sign posted in the entry foyer that stated "We now have vegan options!" Again Shannon checked with the kitchen and came back and told us that any of the egg omelets could be made with tofu, but there is an upcharge. Hmmm, I can buy tofu at the grocery store for $1.49 a pound, so I'm not sure what the need for an upcharge is. At that point, we decided we were better off ordering our breakfasts with real eggs. Our food was okay - not anything remarkable - but we were very disappointed that there were no vegan pancakes or any other vegan breakfasts offered, except for the tofu omelet option, and I assume we would have had to forego cheese if we had been allergic to dairy or had been true vegans, because it is safe to assume that there was no vegan cheese option in the kitchen either. Vegans, beware; vegetarians, you might do okay. Dairy-free people need to be wary too. read more

Will never be coming back. A huge mess and absolutely no professional or accountability. Hostess kept skipping us, I had to go up TWICE to talk to them to get a table. None of the hostess would take any of the blame that we were skipped, all feigned ignorance and one girls excuse was "she was in the bathroom." Finally we were seated and for about 20 minutes had no waiter. Finally someone comes over but explains that they are not our waiter but will be taking our order. Takes our order, 10 minutes later another waiter comes over and takes our order again. Confusing but ok. Food comes out and it's fine nothing special. We can see the manager going around to every table checking on them and making sure they are good, we get skipped every time she goes around. The next time the waiter comes over we ask for the manager to come over. Tell her everything that happened and all she has is excuses and tries to blame the waiters for all the problems. Very unprofessional, I could not even believe that this woman, Dawn, refused to take responsibility for her establishment. Had lunch with a friend I haven't seen for 2 years we decided on Monarch as it was half way point for both of us. Experience was bizarre from the minute we sat down, server kept bugging us every second to order it was very odd. We order quickly just to get her off our back. My friend ordered the chicken salad plate. She is never a complainer and told me every thing tasted as if it was processed chicken salad. I ordered the stuff peppers as they are my favorite. My food was cold as ice. I could not find my server to tell her she said she was in the back helping someone having a panic attack.when finally came back I said my food was ice cold including the mashed potatoes. She said I'll take it back and get you a brand new one. When it came back it was still not steaming and it looked like the chef put his fist in it. I told my server I had lost my appetite at that point and she took it away. 2 minutes later a man who doesn't identify himself comes to the table with the same cold disheveled plate and screams at me what is wrong with this plate. I said it's still cold and it was promised to be a new plate it is not. Man then identified himself as the owner and said that's bullshit this is not the same plate. I've been in restaurants 30 years I know a half assed plate when I see one. This place is an embarrassment to the area. Mr Owner you will fail miserably you need a front of house manager with a personality you are an idiot. Good food. Abysmal service. My husband and I have been to this diner several times in the past and the food has always been decent and the service inconsistent but okay. But good enough for us to come back when we've found ourselves in the area. However today was our last visit. We will not be returning. Halfway through my breakfast omelet I found myself choking on eggshells; some large bits along with others I had unknowingly ground down while chewing. Fortunately, I was okay, but I needed to let management know that they needed to pay more attention in the kitchen. So I waited for our waitress to come and check on us. Sadly, it was about 1/2 hour from the time we were served before she returned to our table. She apologized for both the wait and the eggshell and said she would send the manager to our table. That took another 15 minutes. I explained the problem, prefacing with the fact that we've been there on a number of occasions without issue, but that she needed to know about this. Instead of an apology she stated that since they use fresh eggs this was bound to happen and they are not responsible. She wanted to see the shells I had spit out as proof. Apparently, my stating that I had choked on and swallowed much of it wasn't enough. She whisked my plate away and didn't return. After about 5 minutes of waiting we went to the register to pay the check and she happened to be there. She actually looked us in the eye and said, "how was everything today?" Seriously? When my husband said, "okay except for the eggshells my wife was served," she shrugged and asked him to swipe his credit card. There are plenty of restaurants that offer both good food and good service. We'll be spending our money at one of those instead. read more

Went here for the first time with my boyfriend and daughter. Our server came over and said she'd bring more place settings and grab our drink order. Took her 5 minutes. We put our drinks in. 1 milkshake and 2 mimosas with water. She brings the waters and the milkshake and says she will be right back with our mimosas. 10 minutes goes by no sign of our server. She finally returns and takes our order. Still no mimosas for another 5 minutes until she brings them. So we order another round and they came immediately. Food comes out quickly and hot but there was a hair in my food. I had to call another server over to get my server. I just asked her to bring me out 2 eggs and hash browns instead because I was starving and didn't want to wait for another dish. Came out fast and it was good. Everyone enjoyed their food. We get the check and I was surprised they didn't comp my meal. They took off my original meal and charged me for another. If that happened at the restaurant I worked at the customer wouldn't be paying for it period. Might return but I hope the service is better next time. read more
