I missed a Mongolian BBQ joint since moving to Oxnard, and was quite pleased to see that Mong Q opened in the Collection. I stopped by a couple of times to get the lay of the land, kinda sorta, and tried it a couple of times. I loved the choices and everything looked fresh. During my most recent visit, I had a chance to speak with Junior and Angel. These guys really helped me make some better, more enjoyable decisions and my wife and I truly enjoyed our meals. It was clear to me that these guys wanted us to be satisfied and did everything they could to make it so. They truly seemed to care about the product and it made me feel that much better about my decision to eat there. I am going back there again, because of these two people. Pro tip: You decide on your sauces at the outset. I'm glad they offer minced garlic. When you mince garlic and store it like that, garlic slowly loses its flavor so to get that garlic punch that we crave, don't be afraid to ask for more. Much more! (I get five scoops!) Pro tip #2: Careful on that spicy sauce! Use too much and it will be overpowering. Pro tip #3: Like a great pizza with lots of topping options, too much is just too much. Be selective in your meat and veggie choices. The tendency is to pile it on, and I, for one, love doing that, but it can be too much of a good thing. A little bit less makes for a tastier outcome. I am slowly training myself to be more selective (it's not working...). Pro tip #4: If you're thinking about lunch, get there when they open. The options look fresh and inviting. I really wanted to give this establishment a shot, since this particular location has so many different eateries that's been in n out. We needed a different vibe, so yes.. so excited for Mongolian BBQ. My first time there, I wasn't sure what to do, there was no one at the counter so I had to flag someone to come help. The guy there seems like he didn't want to be there, so I kinda felt unwelcome. I got the regular bowl, and he asked for sauce preference... I also tried their seafood boil. You pick 2 seafood and it comes with rice, 1 corn and 1 potato. No different sauce, just spice level. After paying, walk towards the toppings and stack your bowl. Meats, veggies whatever your heart desires. All meats looked broken up, and all items were very low. Nothing was filled. After you finish piling the bowl with whatever toppings they have...the guy at the end will cook it, and Toss in the noodles or rice if you prefer. After a few minutes, foods done. Let's eat. So my first bite of the noodles was bland, just salty. I had to add in some sriracha for flavor. Then onto the seafood boil. First bite, omg so salty. Tired the rice. So dry. Finally a place that doesn't skimp on portions or flavor. I would say that I eat quite a bit so to get a consistently hefty plate with all the toppings you want that can fit in a bowl because you're serving it yourself! The beef and pork are soaking in that flavor, fresh veggies, you can make your own sauce with extra on the side, and the heated plate gives it a nice almost char flavor without the smoke. Pair that with the seating at the Annex or grabbing a table with Bottle & Pint and that's the best of both worlds. The price may seem like a lot but the regular bowl if you stack it high could easily be 2 meals, I usually opt for the noodles and stacking on veggies you know don't tend to wilt when they're cooked to maximize volume, but I'm glad they reopened after their quick hiatus! read more

Passed this place many times and was curious to try. You pay for your bowl size and drink first. Our total was like $40 for one regular one large and 2 drinks. They scoop your sauce - you have a choice of: lemon juice, oyster juice, bbq juice, chili oil and garlic. Then you get to stack on however much fits in the bowl. Everything was clean and appealing. You have to let the cook know if you want noodles or rice before they automatically add noodles to your veggies. It smelled and looked good but the flavor was not it.. I don't know how this place was so popular. My plate tasted like salt water? There was no sweet or savory teriyaki type sauce. Mong Q is a great new addition to the annex at the collection. I'm happy to see that they are plenty busy and that this is a cool new spot to come for lunch or dinner when you want something quick but filling. At Mong Q you start out with a cup of sauces that you pick which are poured for you by the cashier. Then you load up your own meats and veggies. It's nice not having to worry about the noodles, as they'll load the noodles for you themselves at the end. Appreciate this as it leaves less of a mess. However, if you are on who likes more / extra noodles, then you'll have to pay for that upfront since you can load your own noodles to your bowl. I have no issues with that as the portion size is plenty. The cashier Chris was super nice and helpful for my first time. Kudos to the nice staff that work here and make Mongolian bbq approachable. The food overall was pretty good. For the price you get a hefty portion and the flavors were good. I loved all of the vegetable options they had and that everything looked fresh and the counters were clean. At the end of the row they have sauces so you can make your own flavors at the end. First time EVER having Mongolian BBQ . This spot is at the Annex food hall at The Collection in Oxnard . I chose the large bowl and packed as much goodies as I could. The pork was a little tough but the beef was cooked well. I added tofu and a ton of veggies . I think I could have done a better job at packing more in my bowl though lol! We paid and took our bowl over to the grill. The gentleman working the grill wasn't chatty at all as the cashier was but I understand he is cooking. No worries. Our bowls were cooked and we sat at a booth in The Annex which was popping on a Friday. Tons of people out enjoying the different spots there . Loved the vibes! Huge portion and I ate it all. I think next time, I would not get the lemon sauce . I didn't love the flavor. Overall, I really did enjoy my plate and had zero leftovers. This is a great place to get Mongolian BBQ. You don't really see much restaurants that have this style of cooking. I usually see them in malls. It brings me back to my childhood where I would go with my dad to the mall and we would share half with each other. So this experience was pretty nostalgic. They had a lot of choices of meat, veggies, and sauces. You first pick your sauces. You can choose the amount of spice that is put in. The next part is the meat and there's a whole row of veggies after. We definitely overflowed it to get more bang for our buck. The noodles are thrown in on the side when they cook it. We got an extra side of noodles and we split the container into two for my bf and I and we were full with some left to spare! We are so happy to have Mongolian bbq in Oxnard. The one closest to us use to be at the TO mall but now we can just drive 10 mins to the collection. It was a bit salty for my taste. I think they put too much sauce. I think they can improve this. Portion sizes were solid and they know it seeing that it's cooked and served right into a togo container. This is our first time eating at this place. They're inside The Annex in The Collection Oxnard. We paid for the Large bowl; the cashier asked me if I want spicy or mild. I chose mild since spicy and my stomach do not get along. Normally when we go to a Mongolian restaurant, we piled up the bowl with all the ingredients and then we top it off with noodles. Here at Mong Q, we just needed to pile it with everything but the noodles. The noddles is the same amount whether you buy a small bowl or a big bowl which I think is wrong.If I wanted more noodles, I could pay $3 extra. What???!!! The way they cook is they keep flipping the food around this big grill pan. Unfortunately for me, the food in front of mine had a spicy sauce so my food got spicy too. Very awesome to have a Mongolian BBQ option in the 805. As with all Mongolian style restaurants, you personalized your dish with the meats, the veggies, and the sauces. You give it to the cook and he'll do his magic while adding the noodles with it. For me, I grabbed as much beef as I can get in my large bowl, added an honest amount of veggies, and had them make a BBQ sauce with loads of garlic. Once cooked, I added some sesame oil for more flavor. How was it? Super delicious! Tasted the way I exactly wanted. My wife went all veggies with the lemon sauce with garlic, topped off with soy sauce. How was it for her? It was okay, sounded like she needed more flavor. Think she tried to go too healthy with her dish. It's okay, she wants to come back and try way to create her veggie dish. Service is great and staff will help you if you have any questions. I had to update my review. I recently visited again, it was on a day that their shipment arrived and it was very busy behind the scenes for them. The reason why I'm updating my review is because of unsanitary concerns. I am now completely grossed out by this location. As I waited for my turn to have my food to be cooked I noticed one of the employees who with the same gloves was touching the trash cans and moving them around to allow for the delivery guy to deliver their goods. Without changing his gloves he was serving noodles on to the bowls, serving the spices at the front register, and even assisted with cooking the food. Not once did he change his gloves. this is cross contamination. Especially when touching trash cans, that's unsanitary. I really liked this location, but will not be returning. read more

Cashier was great and very customer friendly, as for the cook, he was very rude, spilled ingredients and serviced customers who were behind us in line after grabbing our bowl, he placed it back on our tray and picked up the next customers. I love the concept. You fill your own bowl with as much meat and vegetables as you can put in the bowl. There are no restrictions on how much meat you add to the bowl. Then you hand your filled bowl to the cook, who adds the sauces and cooks the meat and vegetables. Then he adds the noodles. The food was really delicious, and enough for two meals. I don't know if that would have made a huge difference though as the whole meal had a burnt taste. I think the grill should have been cleaned off. I was surprised to find so many positive ratings for this spot. I love Mongolian BBQ "MB" but this place was not my favorite. The service was okay, the cashier was friendly, the cook didnt speak to me at all, no interaction and not the kind of experience I have had at other MB places. The flavors were not there for me, the food was bland, sodas were flat. I have had better MB. This spot is located inside the Oxnard Collection which is cool. It's convenient and a great spot to shop and eat. I plan to visit once more before making a final decision but based on my first experience, I am not a fan. read more
