So, sorry, great idea, terrible execution here. I was in the area and did a yelp lookup and found Mongolian BBQ. Haven't had in a while, so I thought, yeah, a good lunch coming up. In this case, you can judge a book by its cover. I've been to a few different places before and this place, well, I'm sorry to say, doesn't compare well. Let's start with the egg drop soup. Is that ground chicken in there? I don't know, but I really don't like it. Tasted ok, but didn't like the ground meat. Now to the buffett line. Limited selection of vegetables, as compared to other establishments, but I could live with that. Meat selection is fine. Then come the sauces. Ok, I guess one scoop of each, but honestly it didn't have much flavor when I got to eating. Cooking, this shouldn't have been too hard. Only me and another guy. Burned mine. Really!!! Eating, Well, the hoisin sauce is about the only thing that saved this meal. The interior, well, it's old. I think the seats were salvaged from another restaurant and they appear to be older than this strip mall. I'm surprised about the high ratings, either a bad day, or they haven't eaten at a higher quallity Mongolian BBQ place. As for me, I doubt I'll be back. read more

One of the best hole-in-the-wall restaurants. The owners are always very friendly, as are the staff. The man who cooks the food on the giant skillet has worked there forever (he's not a family member), so he must love it there. The restaurant is not at all fancy, but it's clean. I love the ability to prepare my own food because I can eat an awesome gluten-free meal, and it is good for those on a low-carb diet if you don't eat the rice. Instead of noodles, I pile up the bean sprouts and other veggies in one bowl and use another bowl for my meat. I always ask for the rice wrappers and plumb sauce because my meal is not the same without them. For dessert, they offer bananas, canned fruits and jello--something nice and light after stuffing my face. If a person's food ever tastes gross, it is their own fault because they prepared it on their own. Absolutely the worst dining experience ever. Please do not eat here. The server literally just pointed at our table, didn't ask if we wanted drinks, our food was burnt beyond recognition, I finally asked a bus girl for a soda, she brought me it with the paper still on the straw but in the soda, on second attempt at not burning our food we came back with bits and pieces of other people's food, I asked for a refill only to told refills cost 1.00 (SERIOUSLY?!? A BUFFET PLACE WITH NO REFILLS?!?). Horrific disgusting burnt rude service and no refills. Absolutely horrific. I work nearby and will be telling all my customers to avoid this place like the plague...which coincidentally given the luke warm meat at the cold table I'd be surprised if you don't actually get the plague from eating here. read more

Finally decided to try this place out and... it was alright. The best part about it is it's cheap. So if you want quantity over quality, then it's hard to do better than this. Meal doesn't come with wraps or ice cream (you have to pay for the latter separate) and the choices of ingredients and sauces aren't super extensive. The BBQ itself was fine and I agree with some other yelps in that the place could have been a little cleaner, but it wasn't that bad. This is totally a 5-star place, but not the typical 5-star place. This isn't a 'take your date out for a nice meal in a romantic atmosphere with an eloquently prepared entree' type of place... no, this is the "other" type of 5-star place. This is the 'my friends and I just came back from an all day hike, we're tired, hungry, and want something healthy to eat in a cozy, relaxed environment at a good price' kind of 5-star place. Or the 'my wife and I worked our assets off all day on a house project and just want to go some place cozy, get treated well, and eat some good, hot, healthy, fresh food at a good price'. Yeah, that's the kind of 5-star place this is! It's true, this is the basic Mongolian 'put everything in a bowl and throw it on the grill' type of place (it's not BBQ, but I like the misnomer in the name), but there is a huge selection of food: veggies, meats, noodles, nuts, oils, sauces, garlic, fruit, etc... and it's all very fresh!! I've been to other Mongolian grill type places... Mr. Chang, you know I'm talking to you... where I just question the stuff I'm putting into the bowl. Not here... this place is fresh. As to the flavor... it's dee-lish!!! But then again, if what you put in the bowl doesn't taste good, then you'll have to get a mirror to lay blame. You can make your food as healthy, vegetarian, vegan, or carnivore-lovers as you want... you can make it as lean as you want, or dripping in oily sauce. You can make it as low-carb or carb-o-loaded as you want. For me, it's a couple scoops of hot oil, one scoop of sesame oil, some soy superior, some teriyaki sauce, TONS of garlic and water, a lot of ginger water, and other little finishing touches on a heaping bowl of veggies, thin-sliced beef, and some yakisoba noodles with peanuts on top. I'll tell you why we like this place so much... it's not far from us, it's a family owned/run business, the owner always greets us with a hug as we come in and makes us feel at home, the place is cozy (not fancy, but clean and comfy), we always leave feeling totally satisfied, we can eat what (and as much) we want, the food is fast (soup right to the table, and the grill as fast as we can load up the bowl and get it grilled) the meal includes hot soup (hot-n-sour or egg-flour), rice (which we never get), or wraps (which we always get), the food is always cooked perfectly, and we walk away happy at a good price. I mean, if you were to ask me what 'more' I could want out of the experience for the price... uh... well, my wife would ask for a selection of tofu in the raw food bar, and I could go for some tempeh, but other than that, nothing. It may not be the fanciest place around, but I've had many pleasant, low-key dining experiences here. The soup and rice are just average and the dessert bar is anything but appealing. That being said, I choose to eat here when I want to go out and get something healthy in a comfortable atmosphere. In my opinion, the sauces are superior to Chang's. I've never had my dish burned. In fact, the grill chef always adds just the right amount of crisp to my meal. Since my aim is healthy eating, I don't mind paying a $1 less (than Chang's) and just not eating the soup, rice, or "dessert" bar. The quality makes those options less tempting. The food is good because you pick out the ingredients and sauces that you want it to be cooked with. It is a all you can eat place so that gives you a chance to try different meats and combinations. They also have a good hot and sour soup that comes with the meal. Not sure but I think they have RC instead of coke or Pepsi? I just stick with the water and save a buck or two. The lighting could be a little better but it is an older place and could use a remodel at some point but it still works for them. Mongolian BBQ is a standard pick your meats and veggies from a buffet line and then hand it to a guy to cook establishment. There is nothing BBQ about this place. I guess the owner did not want to be another Mongolian Grill. The actual establishment is kind of plain and a tad gross looking. Completely uninspired in every way imaginable. The greeting when walking in the door is basically non existent. You walk in and sort of meander around until you get gestured towards a table. The buffet had 3 choices of meat and a fish (which looks nasty) and an okay assortment of vegetables. It would be awesome if they had mushrooms and peppers but they don't. They have a decent selection of sauces to add onto the dish but they seem to be universally impotent. Add way more sauce then you think you need. I generally put 4 to 6 heaping ladles of the garlic water onto my dishes as well as generous amounts of soy and hot oil. This would be a 2 star establishment except for the fact that I have become very good at constructing a very yummy dish that is immensely filling and satisfying. In a sense this is a three star review for me and a 2 star review for the establishment. Bathrooms are repulsive as well. read more

We like mongolian. Normally we head to changs. We had a coupon from the entertainment book and decided to give this place a try. We were not impressed. The soup was horrible. The meat was not frozen like at changes but was just sitting in a container and did not look very cold. Good selection of veggies and sauces. No rice wraps either. When I asked what the price would be for my two year old, the server looked bothered and said free as long as she ate from my plate. I went back and asked if I could just make her a small bowl as she mostly eats carrots and noodles and mine would be too spicy. Grumpily, she ok'd this. The food is not bad. Since u make it your own. And they cook it in front of you. The problems are the cooked food they bring from kitchen. Like rice , soups and drinks. I don't trust them. Last time I went there the rice was let say rotten and smelt bad. Other customers complained too. And they did nothing. I told them someone is gonna get sick if they serve it. Being a big guy, I'd be prone to awarding a sympathy star or two based off of a buffet-style restaurant's capability to dole out massive portions of moderately palpable food. Yet as you can see, Mongolian BBQ has only managed to squeak by with just the two stars. The only valid reason I can give to justify this rating is that your typical "Mongolian" fare is still partially dependent on one's ability to ladle out a worthy amount of flavor. Still, there was a lot left to be desired after a recent lunch experience here. The starter soup was oily, the fried rice had no flavor or vegetables, and the selection from the buffet fell very short. There are maybe a total of six vegetables and the same amount of meats (chicken, beef, pork, lamb, halibut, and shrimp -- but only at dinner), and when it comes to cooking stock, the options are just as bare. Do yourself a solid and next time you're in the mood for some do-it-yourself cuisine, hold it back or hunt down another Mongolian place. Mongolian BBQ was cool. They allow you to make your own food. They cook it but you pick out all of the raw products and seasonings. I have to say, I know nothing about seasoning this kind of stuff and although it was interesting and fun I don't think I can be trusted to make my own recipes haha It would have been much better if someone who knows this kind of stuff made it for me. I am just over there with the 40 containers that have sauces in them squirting this one and that one, god knows what it will taste like and I put WAY too much meat in mine, go light on the meat people you don't really need as much as you think! Definitely worth a stop, maybe you need some experience first but we will all learn how to do it eventually right?! read more

Mongolian BBQ - a man preparing food at a buffet - Noodles Near Me - Tigard, Oregon

One of the signs on the door says "Food to Go Lunch (some $ amount) Dinner (about $7.95)". Another sign talks about buffet. When we got it, we found the ingredients counter for the noodles. Like everyone doe, we packed our bowl the best we can. The problem was I didn't see the sign for the seasoning. I thought the cook had them. Unfortunatrly, our noodles were not seasoned. Because of that, we didn't get to eat our food. When we asked the server for boxes, she went to get the owner. The manager immediately told us that we couldn't take home the food because it was a buffet. Buffet of ingredients. She also lectured us saying that we should only take food we could eat. We explained our situation but she just kept on lecturing us. She even counted our plates saying that's how she was going to charge us and then saying that she would weigh the food to charge us (make up your mind lady!). We kept on saying that we would just pay however she wanted us to pay and told her we didn't want to take the food home. She charged us based on dinner buffet rate even though there was no buffet. After she got our money, she was telling us we could take home our food. We kept on saying no after she already embarrassed us but she just kept on insisting. We just left hungry and didn't take the food. So disappointed.... read more

My kids and I eat here every weekend. The food is fresh and the staff is friendly. Lots of veggies; this is the only place I can get my daughter to eat any kind of veggies other than corn. All you can eat, and extremely reasonably priced. We can usually eat here for half of what we spend elsewhere (my son has a large appetite and this is all-you-can-eat). Hardy ever crowded; I've never experienced a wait. No salad bar, but there's a little fruit bar. It's true that at times the meats are frozen when you get there, but I've never felt that impacted the flavor. If one of the food bins is empty I just tell the staff and it gets filled right away. read more

I really wanted to give this a 5, but all my 5 star reviews get f1ltered. Great food! This has been one of my favorite mid-priced restaurants for years. It is "all you can eat" buffet style. You build your own meat and noodle dish, and they grill it. It took me a few times to get it just right, but once you find your mix of spices and mix-ins, you can't go wrong. Dinner costs a bit more than lunch, but they add shrimp to the buffet and maybe some other things. My only complaint is drinks are not free refills. That seems pretty cheap these days when most restaurants that aren't "all you can eat" allow free refills. read more

I tried this place after reading the Yelp reviews, and I got what I expected. I really wanted authentic Mongolian BBQ, and this was pretty close. I've eaten at many Mongolian BBQ-style places over the years, and this was slightly different than any other. Seems to be run by an Asian family that does a pretty good job. The food is not expensive, though they seem to charge a bit much for their bottled beers. If you have two beers you double the price of your meal! The meat seemed very good, and the veggie selection was adequate. Do not go there if you have a peanut allergy (as my wife does), as they cook all the food very close together, and other diner's peanuts may end up in or around your food. Do not expect too much from the desert bar unless you like jello chunks. read more

This grill doesn't have as many different things to put in your bowl as does Chang's, but the food is all fresh and tasty. The sauces are better (imho) than Chang's and the cook is the best I've ever had at a Mongolian grill. I asked him only once to be very careful not to burn mu noodles, and they have always come out perfect. He knows how to cook the fish so it's never overdone, yet he gets the beef and lamb cooked perfectly as well. I'll admit, the fried rice is dry, and the hot and sour soup is a bit odd, (though still good). But the pancakes and plum sauce are wonderful, and the tables and flatware are clean. First, it's a Mongolian grill, like any other, and has nothing to to with BBQ save the name. Um, five stars for this place? Really? Now don't get me wrong, maybe I should elaborate. Me being the adventurous one, I wanted to try a new place for family lunch Monday, so we went out to 99W in Tigard to try this place. The staff made grunting and motioning noises to seat us, not very welcoming. The restaurant is small realative to the area, and it isn't dirty, but it isn't clean either if that makes sense. Everything seemed sort of dingy and run down in well, a Tigard sort of way. Guess that goes with the territory out here. The meal starts with drinks and the option of Soup and fried rice to start your meal. I tried the Sweet and Sour soup and my son, who is five, got the fried rice. The Sweet and Sour soup was tasty, what you would expect from a run of the mill Chinese restaurant, nothing extraordinary. The fried rice, is rice fried, with nothing else. Not much to say, but my son that rice up. Next I went through the food line. The meat choices are ample, fish, beef, chicken, and pork, or all four, typical of these Mongolian grill places. The veggies are on the limited side, cabbage, broccoli, green onions, onions, carrots, pineapple, celery, bean sprouts, and spinach. And one kind of noodle, the ramen style. Fair enough. The sauce area is also somewhat limited, garlic water, sugar water, soy sauce, teriyaki, ginger water, and hot (not really) and sesame oil. Then there are the jellos. canned pears, sad looking oranges, and bananas with some red sauce on them. You choose your stuff and the grill man cooks it for you. An advantage of these types of places is everyone can leave out stuff they don't like, so if you have picky eaters in your party, they can still eat without a problem. Also Mongolian BBQ is south beach friendly since you can leave the carbs out and only get veggies and meats of your choice. The food is average, there is nothing special about any of the food. The sauce selections limiting. The hot oil is not hot, but they do have some hot chili sauce on the tables that is good, so the heat is fixable. It was $7.95 for lunch without a drink. Now that isn't terrible, but considering the quality of the food and the establishment, it isn't really a good deal. Bottom line, if you think this place is five stars, you don't know food or value. If you were in the area and in a hurry, perhaps Mongolian BBQ makes sense, but given all of the other fine restaurants within a few miles of here, I can't think of a good reason to go here. read more

We went in about an hour before closing on a weeknight. Service was just fine, nothing to rave about, but they got the job done. Our cook had no issues, so we didn't have anything burnt. It was really slow, so no food mixing. No matter where I've gone for this style there is ALWAYS crossover (yes, definitely at Chang's) when it's busy. You know this will happen, so you shouldn't be surprised. The food all seemed at the right temperature. Personally, I don't want all my meat still completely frozen so I can't separate it and get it on my plate. It clearly had been and was slowly thawing, just like anyplace else (except when they first put it out). It was fine, no one got sick or anything. This is what you make of it, so if it's not good, you're really to blame. Our food tasted really good. The "dessert" is pointless. The soup was fine. They do, however, have half as many veggies to choose from than any other place I've been to. I would have liked a few more selections. It's fine, not great, but gets the job done. read more

This place is great to stop in during "off" hours, eg. not on weekend dinner nights. When you go in when its slow, you get fantastic courteous service, heaping well stocked veggies and meats, and everything, including the grill, is clean. It feels good to go in and eat here. Or get to-go by the pound also. Its family-run, so they care about their business. But I've had good and quite bad service during full weekend nights, and the grill gets inconsistently scraped and oiled. I know how important that is because I worked on a grill at a philly cheeseteak place in college. You do not want gross charred bits of old food tossed into your tasty plate right? So, 4 solid stars. My mom and I went for lunch. As we were waiting for our food to cook I happened to look over and see the waitress pour into the soup pot 2 soup cups. As in the serving cups she gives out. Have been here a few times over the years and never have had a bad experience (even when the grill hood was out and the food was cooked in the back). You get your choice of veggies, meats, and sauces, pass them to the cook and wait for your meal. Probably not a good option for those who may be allergic to peanuts or other foods, as they can skip across the grill. You get an option for soup (egg flower or hot and sour) and rice (steamed or fried) to complete your meal. I could see this being a good option for picky eaters, as you get to choose what and how much of everything goes into your meal. After forgetting about this place for a couple years, I'm glad I went back. Will be back the next time I'm hungry and in Tigard. read more

This place is alright. The desert/fruit bar is very sad. The only fresh fruit they had were oranges and there were only a 4 slices left. I wish they would have had more choices. I paid $12 for each person on a Sunday afternoon (around 5). They did have a variety of meat though (they even have lamb). read more
