We were in the area and time for a late breakfast. Looked up the popular places and there was Danica's in Danville and Monica's in Livermore that stood out. We have loved Danica's and decided to try Monica's for comparison. Both are wonderful places for a great breakfast/lunch. The long line outside was a good sign with the 45 min wait time. We were seated within 30min!! Monica's menu has some Mexican or Mexican fusion flare to their breakfast menu. We opted for Avocado toast and Roberto's special. They were both great. Loved the combination of the avocado toast with potato's and poached egg. My only complaint was that the avocado was more like shmear on the toast rather than full avocados you expect on a toast. The Roberto's Special with chili Ellen was a hit. As my husband put it, the best chili relleno he has tried in the area!!! Usually when we dine here it's good food good service but today I took my mom here and service was horrible when ordering the 40$ crab egg Benedict beware that you are to EXPECT crab shells. At least that's what manager Melissa told us. When discussing this with her and coming to agreement of taking a percentage off the bill our server Ericka became VERY aggressive raising her voice and threatening to call the cops and getting in my girls face she should not have a job in service if this is how she carries herself. One side of the menu is all breakfast items from traditional dishes like eggs benedict, omelets, chicken & waffles, scrambles, biscuits & gravy, and even huevos rancheros and chilaquiles. Their lunch menu includes salads, burgers, sandwiches and even menu items for fur babies (like pup chicken breast grilled to puppy perfection and southpaw scramble, grass fed beef and 2 free range eggs). Too cute! All human sandwiches and burgers come with fries. My friend ordered the classic breakfast and I ordered the Santa Fe chicken sandwich. My sandwich was superb. It came with citrus-marinated chicken breast, poblano pepper, habanero jack, lettuce, tomato, avocado, spicy aioli on parmesan grilled sourdough. The fries were hot and fresh and delicious too. Today is our anniversary and my wife's been wanting to go Monica's forever. We'd heard so much hype that we were excited. So, as part of our festivities to celebrate today I thought we'd start at Monica's. I am sorry to say I wish I hadn't. That's not to say it started out poorly. We walked in, the place was clean and bright, the staff were friendly and we were sat right away too. Good start, yeah? Menu looked tasty, drinks too, and our server was bright and bubbly as if genuinely happy to see us. We put our order in and that's when things began to go downhill. While we got our drinks in after a reasonable wait, someone else had to bring us water because we still didn't have simple glasses of water before our drinks came out. Then our food came out after a reasonable time as well, but no silverware. I had to get up from the table and ask another server who was rolling silverware in sight of everyone for two sets. Not a huge hassle but still, another chink in the proverbial armor. Nevertheless, we had our drinks, our food, our utensils, and it was time to tuck-in. The portions were generous to be sure, it smelled and looked delicious, but the actual food left something to be desired. My wife's Cali Omelet had a quarter avocado, which was great given a lot of places egregiously skimp on avocado, but Monica's chefs didn't skimp on was bacon. It's weird to be complaining about bacon, I know, but there was so much that it overpowered the dish, hiding the spinach, mushrooms, and cheese nearly completely. My wife was even a fan of the bacon preparation (thick cut, well-cooked) but she ended up leaving a literal mound of bacon on her plate, there was so much. I had the biga$$ sandwich, which was a decadent and delectable, albeit greasy sandwich (unsurprising for its comfort food design). However, the country potatoes were a total miss for me. They were so dry it was like trying to swallow playdough. You know how when you're eating day-old rice or some other starch and it feels like it's painfully sticking to your esophagus, like swallowing a rock all the way down? Each bite was like that, even with trying to lubricate it with beverage. Maybe Monica's was having a bad day. The guy next to us seemed to be having all sorts of problems with his meal too. The insult to injury was the cinnamon roll we ordered to go. It was an utter baking disaster that I've been asked not to talk about in detail and unfortunately we didn't find out until we got home hours later after wine-tasting. I still tipped our server generously as it isn't her fault that the kitchen failed her and times are tough, but altogether it was not a great experience, especially on our anniversary. Anyhow, sorry to say at this time I can't recommend Monica's. If my wife wants to give them another shot, we will, but I won't be the one suggesting we go back. read more

My husband ordered the Denver omelette, no cheese and breakfast potatoes and I ordered the eggs Benedict with hashbrowns and one pancake! My wife had an equally frustrating experience with her 25 dollars omelet! Omelet was as thin as paper and was served with potatoes that were overcooked and over seasoned! The Mrs. And I shared this along with... - Lemon Ricotta Pancakes: As always, brunch needs pancakes. So why not these special lemon ricotta variety! They were soft, fluffy, and included a deliciously tart lemon sauce on the side in addition to maple syrup. Was it real maple syrup? To be honest, my palette isn't good enough to tell. - Cutie Combo: this was for the Little one. Chose the Mickey Mouse pancake, which she loved. - Golden Latte: Filled with turmeric and spiceful/spicy? Not sure of the term, but the spice flavor was strong and I loved that! - Toasted Marshmallow Latte: Mrs. Ordered this. The roasted marshmallow flavor added a nice touch to her usual latte experience. The Service and Seating: The service was friendly and attentive. Indoor seating was somewhat limited but they had plenty of outdoor/porch seating. Despite it being a cold day, the heat lamps, kept it pleasantly warm. The servers gave us time to get our toddler settled before taking our order, which we appreciated. Overall, we had a great experience and would highly recommend Monica's for brunch in Livermore. This review isnt so much on food.... but more being appreciative of the smallest of gestures. So this morning was daddy/daughter time and of course we both decided that Monica's would be the place that we knew we were going to get great service, and a deliciously prepared breakfast. And again, we got our favorite server, Miss Erika, who is an amazing young lady who I greatly appreciate. Our order was taken, and served without a hitch. And the fresh orange juice was absolutely amazing. The moment that literally brought me to tears was after inquiring about the purchase of one their signature cups, Miss Erika explained the current situation of shortages with their signature mugs. And of course I was very understanding. Moments later, Erika returned to our table with the owner, Robert, whom I had never met. But we spoke briefly about how much I liked the mug and being able to put on a wait list, which I was more than willing to do. I mentioned that the only other mug that I hold dear to my heart are my USMC mugs. Moments later, he back to our table and presented me with a brand new mug. I offered to pay for the mug, but he wasn't having it. It was what he said to me that hit me like a freight train. He thanked me for my service to this nation. I am a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and newly retired law enforcement officer who has seen and experienced a lot in both careers. I've been thanked many, many times in my life for my service to this great nation, but as my children already know, I've never accepted anything free or a discount from anyone becauseof my service. I volunteered and gave everything I could to my country, to my Marines and the Corps and to the community's I served as an officer. Robert if you see this message, you have no idea what your simple gesture meant to me today. I guess I've held in a lot over the years and I was just overwhelmed by your kindness.... my daughter, just got up and hugged me to let me know it was going to be okay. My children know what I've seen and experienced in my lifetime and despite all of that, they know that I still believe that there are a lot of good people in the world and today was an example of such. Ok, I have been here many times and I have left a glowing review previously. The Ambiance is still good when you are seated and the waitstaff is good but when you arrive and are waiting to be seated there is a decidedly intentional downgrade. The link that they send you to monitor your place in line requires you to register and it seems that there is a fee associated with that registration. I refused to register and it still texted me when the table became available but since the lines are long I have left before being seated on at least one occasion. I cannot recommend this place due to this and the fact that there are so many good pieces of restaurant software that do not require this. Now let's talk food, my wife ordered the classic breakfast with sausage and received, unlike the many time she had previously visited a serving of profoundly different, link sausages of much poorer quality. Also, the "English Muffin" was a rather poor commercial substitute. Truth be known she dragged me to this restaurant the first time because of the sausage patties. This needs to be fixed! I also had the taco salad which arrived with only half the steak that had previously been served and it seemed like there was only dressing on half of the salad. This could be just a busy kitchen thing. In short, I have noticed a significant fall off in food quality and in the front service over the last few months.
