My daughter ordered the Mac n cheese and added bacon, it was SO BAD, I'm not even sure how they feel comfortable serving that. Huge noodles, with zero taste, curdled cheese and no seasoning. Worst Mac n cheese ever!! My meal was cold and the potatoes seemed like something microwaved from the day before. Service was great! Food was not! I ordered a Mexican style chicken rice bowl - it was okay, the rice was kinda hard. My husband order a burger which he said was good. But his fries, all the fries were terrible, thin, tasteless and kinda soggy. We had 4 kids with us - 2 ordered pizza from kids menu. Pizzas were soggy, with little cheese - no meat topping options at all. The pizzas reminded me of a no-name brand frozen pizza. The other 2 kids order chicken fingers, which were okay - but the fries were terrible. We won't be going back with the kids for sure. And we will stick to burgers, with salad. Had to send the chicken back. Was not edible. Old and over cooked resembled a hockey puck. Instead of getting me a new plate of food just took the chicken away. Veggies were raw and cold. Mediocre at best is how my husband described the lunch we just had at Montana's. Our server was nice and the atmosphere was pleasant enough but that is where the warm fuzzies stop. I ordered steak fajitas for $18.99 and they were basically flavorless. The salsa lacked anything resembling spice and I don't think the veggies and steak were seasoned either. The sizzling platter wasn't sizzling and my food was lukewarm at best. My husband ordered the Texas BBQ Beef Brisket Sandwich for $11.99. The server Mei was awesome considering how busy she was The cooks burned my steak 3 times and the 4th time sent the same steak back. They comped my steak on the bill like it was a favour to me and the manager avoided us like the plague. She clearly doesn't belong in a managers role. We were not even given cutlery until 10 minutes after the food was served and asked for it. The odd part is that I was friendly and calm the whole time. We will never go back to Montana's again. Ordered Montana's last night and they knocked it out of the park. I literally downloaded and sign up for Yelp just to write a review for how amazing our meal was last night. I don't know if it's because it's Valentines weekend or if they're just stepping up their game.. but first off, the Kapow Shrimp was the best we've ever had from any Montana's, idk if they changed suppliers or if we lucked out but the shrimp seemed bigger than normal but with the same portion size?! It honestly felt like it was almost a double order lol. Second! The Honkin Beef rib was HONKIN AF - it was huge, okay? Cooked perfectly, basically just melted in my mouth and the Buttermilk Chicken sammich was MASSIVE like.. 2x more chicken than bun, tender AF with a nice crispy batter! PLUS they threw in a couple of chocolate chip cookies with our order?! (which were so soft and gooey) We're not new to ordering from Montana's restaurants, it's our go to spot, but this order truly was something above and beyond. I came here on Saturday for one of the worst meals I've ever had in my life. The service was awful, it's essentially a bunch of teenager wait staff who are more concerned with texting and hugging each other than doing their job. When the food finally came it was cold and just stodgy. I ordered a burger with the sweet potato fries and it was do disappointing. Everything was cold and I found a bunch of random rock hard regular fries in my burger along with a bunch of stale fries onions in my sweet potato fries!! And to top it all off I found someone elses chunk of carrot in my burger! What my friend got was even worse. Cold chicken, raw vegetables ( like they had literally steamed the veg for probably a min they looked cooked but when you but into them they weren't) and the side of fried mushrooms were completely burnt to a crisp!! I had sworn off Montana's many years ago because their customer service was just atrocious. But I couldn't stay away. They make a great steak and I'm obsessed with their baked beans. So I actually find myself at Montana's quite often now, and am happy to say that the service has greatly improved! On busy nights, you can wait up to 35 minutes, but they are really efficient about turning over tables. I almost always get steak when I come here. They season them really well and they are usually cooked perfectly. On my last visit, both of our steaks were a little over, but the taste was still phenomenal, so we didn't even bring it to anyone's attention. The thing I love most at Montana's is the baked beans. No matter what I order, I always make sure there's a side of baked beans. read more

I don't know why we keep wasting our hard earned dollars here when we could have paid the same price for a good meal down the street. Ugh. Well we were seated immediately by a friendly hostess who asked for our drinks. We had questions about the drink menu which she was unable to answer and just told us to look on the menu for a slush in drink because she didn't know . We also asked about the appetizer menu and was left more confused because she didn't know how to answer those questions either. We ordered drinks and waters from a different waitress who forgot the water. No biggie. Did I mention it was about 10 degrees in the restaurant ? I had to get a Hoodie from the car to stop from shivering. The women's washroom was better than last time but not great at all. We ordered our meals and I got the chicken dish on the attached photo which looked like vomit....but I gave it a shot anyway. I wiped my cutlery with my single napkin to remove the residue and dug in when I noticed part of the dish was missing...the rice. But the waitress somehow got the impression that I ordered double veggies and no rice....umm ya, I didn't even mention veggies or rice I just ordered the dish without any special instructions. So I have no clue what she was talking about?? Anyway, I got a small bowl of rice on the side a few minutes later. The mushrooms were horribly soggy and I couldn't even tell what was on top of the chicken so I just started eating things I recognized. It was terrible. The veggies that were edible were fine, the rest was a soggy mess. Our waters finally came at the end of the meal. The men's washroom did not have any paper towel so, there was toilet paper all over the floor. When it came time to pay it took about 10 minutes to track a waitress down to pay, who said she needed to find our waitress because she couldn't process our payment, so more waiting. We tried to use our scene card but of course the machine malfunctioned and they gave us a number to call to resolve the issue. Just an absolute terrible experience. We have been here before and had a not so great time then to but we gave them another shot. We decided we won't be spending another penny here again. It's too bad because they have decent steak. Had not been to Montana's for many years. Have to say I am pretty impressed with how good it is now. Great variety on the menu, the $11 lunch special is a great deal and very tasty. Their BBQ is at least as good as what you get elsewhere in Edmonton. Brisket is moist and nicely smoked, ribs were very good. Don't get me wrong, this is not competition winning BBQ but neither is anything else in Edmonton and the other places are a bunch more expensive. They also had great corn bread and other sides. The sides were much better than Memphis Blue's, meat was about on par. Service was quick. They were a lot busier than they planned for, only one waitress, but 2 or 3 of the other staff jumped in to help out, so overall they got the job done pretty well and they were all very friendly. Every time we travel from Edmonton to here to eat out with the family it is closed early, etc for a staff meeting or whatever other reason, so definitely don't recommend coming here based on the online posted hours. We're gonna travel the extra 20 mins to go to a south edmonton location next time. They closed hours early so they could have a staff party; which I have nothing against but closing the restaurant during its suppose to be opening hours to have a party was a definite disappointment. At this time I also asked for more water and napkins... Never got them. Went to the bathroom to get a glass of water... Sticky flour and no toilet paper... Gross! Horrible, horrible, horrible visit here with my daughter and granddaughter. We were told the wait would be 15 minutes, which is fine, but it extended well beyond that. Once at our table, waiting continued - it was actually more than an hour before food arrived. While waiting, we were NOT entertained by the bugs and flies at and on our table, which the manager attributed to "needing" to leave the patio door open so servers could be speedier. Well, if service is faster out there, I'd advise you to sit outside, as it was super spotty inside. We finally were able to order, and my drink had another bug or UFO inside it, which is a pretty big turn-off for me. (And just incidentally - I do not find drinking out of a mason jar to be charming, bug free or not). Our meal, when it finally finally finally arrived, was lukewarm and missing an item. The manage informed us that item was no longer available to them and their policy was to replace it with garlic toast. Okay folks, if it is no longer available, why is it still on the menu? Why doesn't the wait staff TELL you it isn't available? Why aren't you offered a substitution? And by the way, we didn't even have garlic toast on the platter, so your "policy" has a few loopholes in it. She also said, "Well, I see you ate most of it anyway....." Well, yes, it's true - we waited an hour for it to come, then another 20 minutes after the waitress said she would get you - we were HUNGRY, darn it, and did keep picking at it. We were charged for the child's meal even though we told them in advance - THREE times - it was her birthday and she belonged to their club and had the notice with us about the free meal. At the end of all the unpleasantness, the poor kid had to ASK for the horned hat birthday traditional salute, after watching others get it all evening, which really hurt her feelings. And yes, they were well aware by then that it was her birthday. The attitude of the manager needs major readjustment - it was condescending and it obvious she didn't like being bothered by us. Maybe the company doesn't train how to help patrons resolve problems, maybe she didn't care, but whatever - we will not be going back to this location. EVER. Three of us went for supper at the St. Albert Montana's 3 weeks ago. The food was about average, and the service was just average. One thing I found irritating was the "white noise", where one hears different noises from all over the restaurant. It has something to do with the acoustics, but it made me get out of there quicker than usual. Maybe that's their point? Loved it. I went there on a recommendation. Tip: Go early. Dinner is epic busy. We went early and it was definitely worth it. Since it was my first visit, I went for Smokehouse ribs. They were perfect and generous. I barely touched them before the meat began to fall off the bone. The service was great. Our server was Luc M, and if you get him, he's pretty awesome. We sat in the lounge instead of the dining room. The lounge is all ages so it wasn't necessarily to avoid noisy children. I would recommend the Southwest Potato Skins as a starter. They are almost a meal in themselves, if you aren't sharing with someone else. Or you are just insanely hungry. They are fully loaded with toppings as well as taste. My last visit to a Montana's was many years ago in Calgary International for nachos and beer while waiting for a flight back to Edmonton. That sealed my impression of Montana's as just another watering hole while traveling. So, I was surprised when friends came back from an out-of-town visit to their daughter raving about this great family restaurant called Montana's. So we arranged to go together for a Saturday night outing. Fortunately, we had a reservation so we were seated in a booth immediately, ahead of the full crowd in the lobby. There was some noise because of family birthday parties but quietened down when the kids cleared out. We were served immediately for drinks and after a reasonable wait, our orders were taken. One of our friends ordered fajitas and the other ribs and wings. The fussy eater of the two praised her meal as well as the value. My wife ordered the striploin steak and house salad with blue cheese dressing. Instead, she got sirloin steak and some indeterminate white glop on the salad. Also, her house salad seemed to be merely iceberg lettuce free of tomatoes whereas my salad had plenty of tomatoes and a variety of greens, no kale. I think the problem in getting the order correct is because the server has some sort of caterpillar in her left ear that probably is a communication device between the kitchen and other staff. My wife was seated on the server's left in the far seat of the booth. This doesn't excuse the server from not repeating the order back in cases where the caterpillar interferes with the customer. I ordered the Smokehouse plate with salad, which someone should do only if they don't feel guilty about the herds of animals that were decimated to make up this dish. Everything on the plate was delcious, although the individual ribs were slightly tough. The chorizo sausage was spicy enough for my taste. The brisket was tender but the smoking gave it an odd flavour. Call me a traditionalist, but I prefer Jewish-style brisket that emphasizes the meat rather than additional spice or smoked flavours. Other than my wife's mixed up order, everyone enjoyed their meal. That's the only reason I've downgraded my rating to a four. Wife's fish and chips was barely on the right side of cooked, my chicken under some mix of onions and mushrooms was cooked, probably many times over. Arrived at restaurant at 6.45pm. - were seated at a DIRTY TABLE that had prior guests dirty food plates, the old napkins and the stained table paper!!!! - told they were very busy and only table so if we wanted we had to sit and the waitress would clear off - table was cleared at 7.12PM!!!!!!! We sat at a dirty table for 27 mins and had NO waitress come to clean table, give us menus or take drink orders!!!! - after asking 3 different servers about getting table cleaned and service, finally girl came and reset table minus cutlery. - not till 7.40pm did girl come back to take drink and food order!!! Sat for 55mins until we had service!!! - food arrived at 8.50PM!!!!!!! 1hr and 10 mins after ordering and 2 hrs 5 mins after first sitting down! Was only for table of 3!!! - when food came all meals were stone cold!!!!!!!!! Absolutely in edible!!! OH and still NO cutlery!! Absolute waste of $80!!!! We asked to speak to manager 3 times by asking 2 different servers and the front greeter person and all said he would come see us. He NEVER came and so we paid bill and left at 9.30!! Ribs are usually good; not so recently. My server said it was a bad batch, had others complain too. The sides are quite terrible though. The creaky wood floors can be annoyingly shaky on a busy day as servers keep walking by. Seating towards the back of the restaurant will land you either next to the washrooms and kitchen. My family goes to Montana's from time to time when we go out to eat with our daughter. She loves that she can color on the table! We do our best to support local business as much as we can. That sometimes means sitting down for a meal but also can mean sharing proven professional skills that can add value to the business. I recently approached Montana's because our Firm identified opportunity to lower the cost of utility delivery on a number of Montana's locations. Considering we already helped a number of its competing restaurants like Boston Pizza, Canadian Brewhouse, Moxies and others, I figured Montana's would be extremely interested. Rather, I was brushed off by Montana's Regional Manager which suggests maybe they don't care that much about containing operating costs.
