Went to visit after a day trip in Boston (suggested from Dave Portnoy's "One Bite" series) with my boyfriend and was not disappointed. Walked in and was greeted by a super nice lady who took our order and the wait was only about 15 mins. Overall restaurant atmosphere and ambiance is small and homey, but we loved it and felt super welcomed despite the size of the space. Finally, food was wonderful, we ordered a half pepperoni / half Italian sausage which was delicious and super hot and fresh when we got it. My only possible suggestion would be to maybe make different sizes of pizzas because we had ordered a large, but it looked as though all of them were the same size. Nonetheless, for the price and quality of food you're receiving, Monte's Restaurant is a great spot to stop if you're in the need of a good bite. read more

Ok. Came here because of the Dave Portnoy pizza review. 10 he said.. best reviewed pizza in his history. Verdict: 10! Why? This pizza is nostalgic. It reminds me of my childhood favorite pizza but with the most amazing crispy thin crust and delicious sauce. This pizza brought me back and took my son by surprise. We both polished off our pizzas and we NEVER finish pizzas. Straight up, go get the pizza and see for yourself. Just no comparison. Secondly! And this is a big secondly.. we are Floridians visiting a north Boston bar/ restaurant during football season. Yes, Dolphins / Patriots is a real rivalry! We left making amazing friends and we can't wait to return. Actually, they treated us like family. We felt like we actually live here honestly. The waitresses, bartender and the locals were soooooo friendly that I might want to move here. This makes me proud to be an American! Bottom line.. the pizza is amazing!! But also, try their homemade salad dressing. It's heavenly! The drinks are poured generously by the amazing bartender who's name I can't remember.. I'm sorry but she's family to the rest of the staff. My son and I are truly satisfied and happy from this experience. Just ok. We went because of barstool's 10/10 rating. Maybe Dave has different expectations for pizza, but it fell short to me. The wings were good. Nice flavor. Staff was super friendly. Easy to find and parking was fine when we went but can see it filling up during busier times. There is separate dining area and bar. ATM available since they are cash only. read more

I grew up nearby and ate there Thanksgiving weekend. The food was awful & cold. We ordered chicken cacciatore and meatballs & pasta with side salads and garlic bread. The garlic bread seemed like bunt hot dog rolls no garlic pasta was not done & sauce seemed like it came from a can. I think this was a BAR & pizza and best for that. I have been multiple times. I definitely don't go for the pizza because it's not really my thing. I don't really like the thin crust pizza but not knocking it. Just saying it's not really what I like. However, what I do like is I like the grill teriyaki chicken and grilled teriyaki steak. I think it's the perfect combination to share with my mom and it definitely tastes pretty good for being from this place. This restaurant has the best service! We went during lunch on a Thursday and there was a small lunch crowd and several take out orders. There was one server doing it all and doing it all very very well! The pizza was delicious - the crust had a great crunch to it especially fresh out of the oven. Our dinner was solid. I wouldn't write home about it, but I can't complain about anything either. We got here at 6pm on a Saturday and were seated fairly quickly. The menu was simple and priced very reasonably. They are cash only, so bring some with you. I had plenty of pizza on this East coast trip already, so I opted for the chicken parmesan. The wife had the chicken parmigiana and the boy had the broccoli, shrimp pasta Alfredo. All were served under 30 minutes and were decently portioned. It's a small mom and pop diner and you definitely get that hometown, home cooked vibe. We enjoyed out meal and were on our way. Best Bar pie's on the North Shore, if not all of Massachusetts. I wish I could franchise Monte's in Brooklyn NY. If I am visiting home, I have to go to Monte's. It's very affordable for a family, consistent food and always a great time to chow with friends and family. luckily for me it is close to my loved ones. Long, there's much to it: latest exp. 9/15/23, sanitary issues, follow-up (owner). You ask: "Did you speak to the Manager?" This is WHAT HAPPENED when we did, ridiculed, embarrassed for it. We're regulars at Monte's Restaurant, Lynn. One of our FAVORITE places & our FAV PIZZA. We go 2-5 xs/mo, unlike most (takeout, pizza) we dine in, usually spend $50-60+ (2 p) Many HATE their pizza, call it 'Ketchup on a Cracker' but WE LOVE IT! I talk about Monte's often, have referred MANY there Fri 9/15 @ 5:00pm, we had block of time (5-6:30pm) before Cabot Theater, Beverly for Comedy Show. Noone greets us @ door so we head to bar, sit @ high top. Wait few mins. before server appears, rushed to take drink order. *Server (Michele) had much ATTITUDE from START (it's a pub, but more than we're use to). 2 waters/soda arrive in small child glasses not regular soda glasses they use. Few mins later server grabs KENO stool to pull up to our table to take order, sitting in uncomfortably CASUAL way (all of it's odd). We order a mushroom bar pizza as 'starter', salad, chix/brocc/ziti & steak tips/grilled chix combo, sides: fries, rice Approx 10-12 mins later FRIES arrive w/ nothing else? Not sure WHY fries brought w/o steak/chx. Salad eventually dropped, yet PIZZA never arrives? Server rushes by 2-3 xs, never checks in/give ETA/update. 1/2 hr later, entrees brought by another server, we ask about pizza, in gruff/rude/snarky tone told "Yeah, your server KNOWS. She's getting it" Few mins later see server but NO PIZZA, ask again, told "Ya, pizza wasn't ready when other stuff was, that's why wasn't brought out" (I don't believe that). Few mins later pizza hastily dropped off, pathetic looking + BURNT, clearly sat 'dying in the window' forgotten about, & I HATE when appetizer/soup/salad arrive AFTER ENTREES Entrees/fries/salad are good *except miniscule thimble of rice--dry, hard, barely warm. They can't be serious w this portion, but it's a side--$4. More drinks are needed but server's busy, 'in the weeds'? PIZZA: We ate 3 slivers TOTAL so maj. left, 70%? (it's cut uneven). Pizza is OVERCOOKED + BURNT, crust not edible, or barely if you like pizza WELL-DONE, tho was BEYOND 'WELL' (receded edge) Flag down server to get check, ToGo boxes (now 6:25pm, been there 1.5 hrs!) Server brings boxes for everything but pizza (no pizza box). I say to friend: "See, even she KNOWS the pizza is CRAP, sees we barely touched, knows don't plan on taking it" Server shows again + now HAS pizza box, picks up pizza + chucks it into box, friend says: "The pizza is overcooked, we don't want it" Server is mortified + this ensues a 2-3 min. ARGUMENT w indignant server going great lengths to PROVE US WRONG? Server (clearly annoyed): "Are you SERIOUS? You don't want to take the pizza?" adding: "Great, now I just dirtied a pizza box for nothing" + attempts to dispute "BURNT" claim: "The pizza's fine, it's NOT overcooked" Me: "Are you kidding? It obviously sat 'dying in the window'" Server: "No it didn't, we don't have heaters" Me: "You clearly see IT'S BURNT" Server (getting more frustrated by the minute): "No it's NOT!" + flips pizza over w/ her hand, which actually reveals MORE char marks, & to demonstrate (friend calls 'The Puppet Show') how our pizza isn't 'overcooked' picks up slices one by one, waving them back & forth in air stating: "SEE! It's not burnt because the tip BENDS" Server states (defeated): "Well our dough's been 'OFF' all day, but IT'S NOT OVERCOOKED!!!" Server finally (settles?) "Fine, I'll take HALF off" Me: "Half? We don't want it" Server loudly: "Half off because YOU ATE HALF" I point out: "Most of it's left" *2 men doing Keno hear whole convo ...KENO: server touching food w/ bare hands after handling multiple Keno transactions @ Keno register yet her bizarre statem't: 'Dirtied pizza box' as she just dirtied our food w/ her filthy dirty Keno-running hands. Restaurant staff shouldn't be running back & forth between touching food + KENO transactions. Check comes + see $5 comp was given using server's EMPLOYEE DISCOUNT? Standard practice? Out of laziness? Or not wanting mgr/owner to find out? We pay (incl. tip) + finally leave 6:37p yes, that's TOO LONG. Owner was behind bar entire time, but (on fb) denies being there? yet I recall details of actions/convos he had (steps away) unless that's not the owner: 'Tony'? Posted experience on FB, Monte's "OWNER" commented on it stating server: "WAS THE 'MANAGER'" + pizza WASN'T BURNT? Owner claims "wasn't even in building" at time? + added "Where else can you get a $10 pizza?" ...as if that's ALL that matters? I GET Monte's has SALTY SERVICE, but this was unacceptable. It takes A LOT for me to say sumthing & yet I'm challenged by server? ridiculed? treated like this OVER $10 PIZZA? After minutes of dispute, Monte's settles for a "HALF refund" To receive 'FULL' REFUND, was I to regurgitate lousy BURNT PIZZA? First and Last. Maybe Bar Stool Sports liked the pizza, but the pasta and service are sub-par. (The pizza didn't look great either, but we didn't have it. ). The alfredo sauce was 100% from a jar - gross. And my pasta came out cold. By the time I could flag down our waitress to send it back to be heated, my dinner partner already finished their meal. Much like other Barstool pizza review victim's I can attest to the average, at best, taste of the cheese pie from this place! Sure it's crisp, light and no flop with great undercarriage. But, where is the taste? To be fair I must include Phantom Gourmet to the list of sources that compelled me to try this pie out. Maybe, just maybe, it's worth looking at the way Doug DeMuro does his car rating system on YouTube. Yes, they are much longer and contain a lot more information and detail. However, they follow a system of universal attributes for every single rating. I'm sure as subjective as human taste buds are there is a way to put together three to five easy to follow matrix and give them each a rating and combine the total for the final score. I'm also pretty sure that it could be done from a Barstool, take that Dave! Now, to be fair to Monte's... I'm more than confident that they make great meals that tourists and locals alike enjoy! The staff is friendly and easy-going, the area is outstanding! Even if the pie may be a bust, the trip won't be. The beach, waterfront and Red Rock park are well worth a visit! My grandparents lived in Lynn and I went there frequently as a kid. Was always great. I go every so often and it hadn't changed. My mother made mention that she thought it had gone downhill. I went there recently when in the area. I got a house salad and a sausage pizza. The house salad was fresh but otherwise unremarkable but it is the house dressing that makes it. Was excellent. The pizza came out with crumbled sausage, i seem to remember sliced sausage but may be mistaken. The pizza was good, not great like i remember. Service was friendly and the prices decent. Hoping i hit it on an off night and that they haven't slipped. Will give it another shot. read more

The waitress was friendly and attended to our party well, however she served our beverages with her fingers at the mouth of the glass - uggh. The food came fast. We order pizza, seafood combo platter and chicken parmigiana. The pizza was just OK, very thin, nothing special. The seafood was just OK maybe a little below average, fries and coleslaw again, nothing special, average at best. The chicken parmigiana and ziti was very good and the cheese blend on the top was outstanding. Cleanliness of the restaurant was not up to par. Window sill at head level showed dust and hair, the wainscoting wall next to me had food and a spill drippling down it, and greasy hand prints on the dividers in between booths. We come here quite frequently. This pizza is hands down the best pizza I've ever had. Period. It's your traditional bar pizza and very thin and crispy. It's the exact style of pizza I love to eat. I've driven hours just to get this pizza. One issue is that their business is cash only and during the pandemic, they've moved to Venmo, though I'll happily Venmo them for one of these pizzas. We've been wanting to check this place out after seeing the amazing Barstool Sports review. We finally went but to say this place is complete let down would be an understatement. The reviews are mostly shams and not accurate. The pizza is some of the WORST I've ever had, and I'm not picky. First of all - it came out cold. They come in one size...on the smaller side...which is fine....but they taste like bad frozen pizza at best. Style wise - they are relatively thin...with "zero flop"...but like in a stiff cardboard way...and totally bland and tasteless. The veggie pizza was also just thawed bag of veggies in a microwave dumped on top...so gross. We also orders "boneless buffalo wings" which were only frozen chicken fingers soaked in Franks red hot and served extra soggy. Totally bummed with this place and cannot recommend it... read more

I live a couple of streets down from this place and my family and I have gone here a few times. The food isn't bad, but the service is horrible. I went here yesterday and waited at the "wait sign" and no one came to greet me. There were 3 employees who were chatting away. They looked right at me, and continued chatting instead of coming to help me. People were just staring at me as well. So, i left empty handed. Oh, Monte's. A solid divey dining experience for sure. I drove about 35 minutes to meet up with a friend for dinner last week, having been promised amazing, thin crust, piping hot, awesome pizza. So, I arrive and the first thing I notice is beers cost between 3 and 5 dollars($5 being for Guinness, clearly the premium offering.) A Sierra Nevada Celebration for $3.75? Don't mind if I do. Wachusett blueberry's only $3.35? Okay, I'm in. I pushed my friend hard to split a pizza so I could sample more menu items (the chicken parm was calling my name), but he said no, so I settled for splitting an appetizer of fried calamari, which were breaded mozzerella stick-style. I'm mostly a fan of plain cheese pizza, but I went for a pineapple-topped pie. Sadly, the pizza was "meh" for me. It tasted a lot like a Celeste frozen pizza. :/ I wanted there to be waaay more cheese. Nice waitress, good ambiance.
