Since I live out of town, It's been 30 years since i've been here. While visiting my son, we decided to make the drive. It was worth it. The Good: Great Shrimp, oysters and stuffed crab. Whenever I am somewhere between Houston and Galveston, I try to make a detour to this restaurant for my fried seafood fix. I love the panoramic view of the Houston ship channel - especially if I am lucky enough to get a booth by the window! Their onion rings and stuffed jalapeños are also favorite items from the menu. This is a casual restaurant, you will need to climb some stairs since it is on the upper floor (there is an automatic chairlift on the stairs if needed). We have been to this restaurant multiple times in the past. We were not disappointed with this visit either. Our waitress Sydney was amazing! She answered all of our questions and if didn't know that answer went and asked to get the answer. Thank you Sydney! We ordered the peel and eat shrimp for an appetizer. The shrimp were large and flavorful. My hubby ordered the 12 piece fried shrimp with a sidecar of 6 grilled shrimp, he had the rice pilaf as his side. He was more than pleased with the meal. I ordered the Grilled Red Fish with the Ponchatrain sauce. I will say that it was simply amazing! I am very particular about the fish that I eat. I am fond of firm not super fishy fish. This place has been a favorite of mine for over 40 years. It was relocated years ago after a fire but still has the best seafood around. The old place had a salad bar which I wish they would bring back. The place is a little pricey so I can't go often but love the place. Maybe they could start a loyalty discount program. read more

This is the best seafood place around. The fish is caught daily and cooked to perfection. Their gumbo is to die for!! Calamari and ranch or marinara sauce is the perfect way to start your meal with. Our waiter, Caleb, was the coolest guy and had the best disposition and winning personality! In fact as we were sitting there enjoying the scenery with the ferry going back and forth and the tug boats pushing out tankers and vessels, I didn't see one table not constantly attended to by its waiter or waitress. This place was a mixed bag. First the good...the fried shrimp were perfect. Crisp, tastes, perfectly cooked panko breaded. The stuffed shrimp were also pretty good but I've had better. The negatives...the boiled shrimp were rubbery, overcooked and a few were not cleaned well. That's unforgivable in a seafood restaurant. The scenery was great, both the view and the people watching. As it's one of the few places to eat, I'd come back. But next time I'm sticking to the fried stuff. read more

Went to monument inn for the first time after hearing all the rave about it. Everything about this place is absolutely amazing. The food was a 10/10 but the service we got was more than anyone can ask for. Aerial was our waitress and she is one of the best I've ever had. I eat out several times a week and have had several great waiters and waitresses but Aerial supersedes all of them. Please ask for her when dinning here she will make your experience a million times better! read more

Unexpected surprise while visiting the San Jacinto Monument. The Monument Inn restaurant, situated on the Houston Ship Channel, is a great restaurant. Busy, busy but fresh seafood and great fast service. I'm not a fan of fried anything but the Snack Attack was great. Especially the stuffed crab. I also had the fresh oysters, of which I'm pretty picky. They're as good as those from MATAGORDA, which are the best. For entree, I had the stuffed Flounder. A very light sauce and real crab stuffing. Not too much breading. I'm not one for writing reviews but this place was worth it. Cinnamon Rolls alone were worth 5 stars. read more

Had a 25 minute wait so we sat in the bar. The bartender, Jimmy, took care of us promptly. We had two perfect frozen Margaritas. We ordered a snack attack for appetizer - very fresh and hot. We had not visited this restaurant in over 20 years, so we recently decided to go back because my now elderly mom has been asking to go back for a year now. The restaurant did not look as I remembered when I was a kid, but then again it was late at night. Upon entering, we noticed that there was a stairwell leading upstairs with a chair lift *yes the types you see on tv commercials*. My mom mistakenly went to the room downstairs, and was met by a rude patron who told her we had to go upstairs. Ok, our mistake, geez. My mom is disabled and could not walk the stairs and we could not find anyone who would help us with the chair lift- so my mom had to struggle up the stairs. When we got upstairs, we were told that they had an elevator (more on this later). We had the all you can eat deal. I liked the cold boiled shrimp and oysters, but nothing else. The fried foods had absolutely 0 flavor and the batter was strange and I have definitely had better catfish and shrimp at other places. I did not like the cinnamon rolls, I tasted little cinnamon in them and more raisins than anything else. I did not have the rolls, because my family would not pass them down, so I cannot comment on them. I thought the service was OK, until my mom asked about taking her fried foods home. The server then told us that "due to a strict policy" they do not allow this if you have requested more food, which I did on the first part of the all you can eat. I mentioned that there are homeless people who desperately would like to have food like that and your restaurant throws it away? He said someone had ruined it for everyone. My mom was able to take her leftovers home, but I had to leave mine there. Having had been one of" those" people who would have desperately wanted this food as a child, there is no excuse (even the one of someone else ruined it) to throw away good food. My suggestion would have been to have the waiter or kitchen box my portions up for me (since he said others ruined it), but they declined vehemently. I would love to take my grandma here, but if she saw how they threw food away she would have the same opinion. Furthermore, the elevator issue comes into play as well. My mom wanted to use the elevator, but a staff member told her that this was also a "service elevator" and that basically that stuff takes priority. So, if I understand properly, getting products into the restaurant is more important than getting an elderly or disabled person upstairs to the dining room? Wow! We liked the boats and the scenery, no one can argue that this is beautiful and a great aspect of the experience of this restaurant. But, I would only come here again if my family members requested it and if it was daylight out. I wonder if it being evening-time and the staff members really not wanting to deal with late comers contributed to our bad experience. read more

Best seafood in the area. The restaurant is located after the San Jacinto Monument. Once you get inside the restaurant which is situated all by itself next to the Lynchburg Ferry, you have to go upstairs to get to the main dining area. The place is always bright and constantly full from the neighboring plant workers so if you decide to come here for lunch during the week be ready for a wait. Service here is always great and the food is fresh. Yesterday I ordered the craw fish bisque which was a bit too thick for my liking but the flavor was on point. I am assuming since it is so close to the holidays and there are so many people on vacation that the place was practically empty and service was very fast. My co workers ordered the seafood gumbo which by the way contains chicken, red fish plate topped with shrimp, shrimp brochette, the crab cakes and of course their delicious cinnamon buns which are complimentary and put on the table once your seated. There were no complaints. The food was great, the view of the ship channel although a bit gloomy due to a cloudy day was still bright and service was fast and friendly. Their alligator bites are really good as well. We did not order them this time but they are a must try once you visit. Definitely a go to place once your in the area and you could always take the short ferry ride across to Baytown and on to I10. Can't beat the convenience. read more
