Decided to come here one morning for a Bumble coffee date and I absolutely loved it! This place is so cute and inviting and always has wonderful atmosphere. I got the sausage and egg biscuit and it was amazing! The sausage was filled with flavor and the biscuit was so fluffy and warm. My date had the avocado toast and a glazed doughnut and loved it! He said the avocado tasted fresh and the doughnut definitely tasted homemade and freshly baked. I have gone back multiple times since and it only gets better each time. read more

I have LOVED monuts since I moved to the triangle area two years ago and I still come back for the amazing donuts and good food. The donuts are tasty and they always have interesting flavors, the sandwiches are creative and flavorful, and the coffee is great as well. One downer to this place is the ongoing crowd. Even at the new location the place is packed during peak hours. I don't feel they did the best job using the space in the new building for the crowds but I will continue to come for the amazing food! read more

This place is really fun! When we walked in, huge line. Back past the door. It moved fairly quickly which was appreciated. The tables turned over quickly so by the time we ordered, got our "fun fact" card to identify our order/table and sat - we had options on where to sit. There were about six specialty donuts to choose from this day and we went with the apple cider and the chocolate coffee crunch. By far, the CCC was better. It was a nice subtle chocolate flavor with a slight coffee after taste. I thought the apple cider donut was a lacking in flavor and was masked in A LOT of sugar. Since it was Derby weekend, there was a mint julep donut which was very festive! We also got the guac dirty to me biscuit sandwich - YUM. Thank goodness for the red onion which added a little crunch/bite to it. The biscuit was amazing though. Loved. Coffee was good coffee- wish refills were easier though. They say you get 1 refill with your purchase but I didn't want to wait in line again, didn't want to jump line, wasn't sure how that worked. I really enjoy Monuts. Their biscuits are perfection! However, every time I come here I have a difficult time finding parking. I also hate that their wi-fi never seems to work. In the summer months, this place is less crowed, so I like to come here and do work. However, without reliable internet, it is becoming a less desirable place to go. read more

My husband and I are on the search for the world's best donut. So far this is his favorite place. Great selection of unique donuts. What makes me the most happy is the reasonable price. We don't like to go to chain restaurants but instead try to stop at fun local joints on our travels. Because of this we go to lots of artisan spots that tend to be a little pricier. Sometimes it's just stupid. The donuts can end up being 3-5 each. Not here! Monuts had donuts for $1.50. We also got other food and I felt it was reasonably priced with quick and friendly service. And the food was wonderful. It's a fun atmosphere with beer, booths, tables, and bar seating. We went twice on our weekend trip and will plan to go back if we are in the area. read more

The entire staff stays composed in the face of a relentless onslaught of us patrons, pumping out serious grub. Andrew is an awesome bartender. You can tell he and everyone else are highly motivated to succeed. Fresh & sweet donuts but very crowded! I had the clementine donut and the chewy texture was marvelous but be prepared for lots of sweetness. You need a cup of milk or a hot coffee to go with this baby. My family tried the red velvet and white chocolate donuts and they were very pleased as well. Of course there is ALWAYS a long line which can be tiresome when you're hungry. Cool open air ambience and some shared banquet style tables in the middle of the joint. Nice big bar area with beer and wine. You can also eat at the bar area. The first time I came here we just ordered a donut and then came back another day for sandwiches! I had an egg bagel sandwich and my boyfriend had an egg sandwich on one of their yummy biscuits. The most recent visit we sat at the bar to avoid the line and ordered the chocolate pb butter cream donut which was so amazing and different! We also ordered breakfast sandwiches. Amazing!! Went there on a Sunday morning around 10am and there was a bit of a line, but it moved quickly. I had "the usual", which included two eggs, avocado toast, and Sriracha-maple potatoes. The eggs and avocado toast (on focaccia bread) were good. The potatoes were AWESOME!!! I want to put that Sriracha-maple sauce on everything!! I also had an apple cider donut that was pretty delicious, and tried my boyfriend's traditional glazed yeast donut, which was the BEST yeast donut I've ever had!! I'm just sad that they're not open tomorrow (Monday's) so we can go another time before we leave town... read more

This is a definite 5 for the food but the coffee falls way short. It's a shame. There has to be a better coffee roaster they could source in the area. If not they should get coffee shipped from La Colombe in Philly. But the cinnamon bun was one of the best I've ever had. read more

Today I got the Sausage Egg and cheese on a plain bagel. The bagel top was hard as a rock, the bottom was soggy with all the sausage grease, the scrambled egg had way to much pepper with no other seasoning...if there was the pepper over powered it...the cinnamon bun don't get me started.... The bottom of it tasted like a caramel hard candy, it didn't pull apart like a normal bun is suppose too, no spring back when you pressed down on it...all it was was a sugar ball of dough def not a cinnamon bun! Highly disappointed in today's visit and won't be coming back as I'll be sure to let my friends and family know as well. read more

I've only been here a couple of times, and most of the time its for a quick donut with my kids and an ice coffee. I love their donuts, and the many unique flavors and varieties they create every day. I also love their avocado toast, very yummy, and filling. My husband and I came here once for an actual meal, and I ordered a beet/egg sandwich dish, and it was okay. I think I just ordered the wrong thing for me. Other than that, it still hasn't stopped me from returning with my boys for a special treat. I've recently moved to NC and was recommended this place by someone who worked at the DMV. All I can say is that was the best thing that's ever happened to me at the DMV cause I now have a favorite breakfast spot. Their breakfast sandwiches are amazing, donuts are to die for, and the atmosphere is on point. I gave one of their specialty coffees a try though and it was... well, different.. but I guess that's to be expected when you get a honey lavender latte. I would highly recommend!! read more

Went a day ago, the service was slow, but the food was amazing. Went back again today, it was a packed house, which I'm assuming is not a surprise considering the food, but the customer service was so atrocious we had to leave. One staff member was incredibly rude and standoffish, immediately alienating us as customers and promoting a two star review. We had been wanting to visit this spot because they had apple cider donuts on the menu and being from update NY and missing the fall there, we really wanted a good apple cider donut! After waiting in an extremely long line for a good amount of time (late Saturday afternoon) we both got an apple cider and we also got 2 yeast donuts to share later on. We were definitly disappoint about the apples cider, not cakey and light like it should be, just oily and doughy with cinnamon sugar on it. The other two we got were actually pretty good, but you can get the same yeast donut anywhere in NC. Not a terrible place but won't be making a special trip again. read more

One of the first places I ate when I came to Durham for the first time and still one of my faves. The line is usually long but moves quickly and is totally worth the wait. I've had everything from maple bourbon bacon donuts to chicken and squash salads. They also have great breakfast beers on draft, yes breakfast beer. Founders breakfast stout!!! I'm sad to update my review of this place bc they obviously do some things well. Their donuts are pricy (why is it listed as only $?), but always great and the decor is cute and well decorated. What this review refers to is an experience I've had not once, but four times now. I get off work around the time that they close. I am aware that they sometimes give away some donuts that they are going to toss in the garbage anyways (a great idea btw!). However, each time I've come in at this time, I've never been offered. Now, don't get me wrong. I don't expect to get handed donuts for free *every* time or even most of the time, but my last experience left me a little pissed to be frank. It is 5 mins until close and I see a happy cashier give away three heaping paper bags full of free donuts to two separate customers in line ahead of me. I get up to the counter and need a full dozen (they were for a bunch of volunteers at a special olympics game to boot). They have very limited options, so I essentially don't get to choose even though I just asked for plain glazed. So I get what they have AND they charge me over $20 for an even dozen!! Seriously?? You couldn't have even thrown in a couple more because I'm your last customer and you're going to toss the rest anyway?? That's some grade A (for asshole), capitalist supply and demand protocol. Maybe sour grapes, but this has happened to me a number of times (last time, I am the only patron in the place and am watching from a booth as they are literally dumping dozens of donuts into the trash can in the kitchen... my fat heart weeps). Donuts and biscuits are delicious and work the wait! I also really like the diversity of the menu. You can balance out your apple cider donut with a lovely kale salad if you so choose. Staff are courteous, but some are not the warmest - I can understand this, given the multitudes of people coming in on a weekend. It would be great to have the menu posted up high so folks can read it while in line; the printed menus never seem to find their way back to the basket set up for people to read while waiting. read more

It's tough to have a best place in Durham but between this and Rise there's really no contest. Monuts is like the artisan donut place in Durham. Usually a smaller selection of donuts but very curated. Last time I went they had a delicious Blueberry and chocolate donut and a dark chocolate pumpkin donut. Now where they really stand out is there bagel sandwiches. I usually get a bagel sandwich and a donut. Build your own bagel sandwich is the way to go. Stacked as high as possible. The breakfast special plate is also a favorite of mine. They have incredible avocado toast and as a millennial i'm a certified expert in avocado toast. Paired with their sriracha potatoes and maple sausage. That's a good morning right there. Their coffee is also very good, hot or cold. I've been enjoying Monuts since they were a stand at the Farmer's Market. I'm glad to see them thrive and always have a great experience there. Parking can be an issue since their lot is small but there's street parking close by. read more

Pros: friendly staff, nice layout, can serve beer with their donuts! Cons: overpriced coffee, more bagel sandwiches than donuts on the menu, closes too early for a place with a wet bar, DONUTS JUST AREN'T THAT GOOD. Maybe I just don't get it, but if a place is called Monuts, they should serve some damn good donuts. There's a small selection of pretty hum-drum donuts that are inevitability stale by eleven, and you pay two bucks for the ones with toppings on them. I kid you not, they charged me two bucks for a donut with some pistacho dust on one corner of it, said it was the end of the day so the other ones had sold, and shame on me, I paid for it. Maybe I'm getting grumpy in my old age - I mean, just turned 33, I've seen some radical fluctuations in the donut market, believe you me - but I think that if you're in the donut business, your donuts had better be fresh, topped according to the description, and priced proportionally. Don't get me wrong I've been a monut fanatic since the beginning, I went to their new location for the first time today, the wait was aggravating, I had a foccacia sandwich: the Cheveryting and a $ 3 side salad, the salad was a joke 3 pieces of lettuce, really? I felt robbed. The foccacia was good but not impressive, for $8 I expected a lot more. To be fair the person that took my order was really nice. Toast serves a fantastic and very generous side salad for $2 with slices of parmesan cheese. their food is also superior and better value. read more

We had a perfect brunchexperience here.The line was a little overwhelming at first but moved surprisingly quickly and there was an open table by the time we ordered our food. Our order came out very quickly considering how packed they were. The Scuttlebut sandwhich was delicious. The focaccia tasted fresh, the bacon was nice and crispy and the radish slices added a nice crunch. The chocolate chai donut was very good. Not cloyingly sweet, which I appreciate. Overall, the best thing about our meal was that we left feeling good! Not weighed down and slightly ill, which is usually how i feel after a biscuit sandwhich and donut at Rise. I love Rise, but I don't love the way I feel after I eat there. It's much more enjoyable to leave brunch feeling energetic. We can't wait to go back! read more

Came here with some friends the other morning and sat at the bar. The bartender was extremely prompt and he had great suggestions as to what to try. The donuts were incredible as were all of our sandwiches . I got the pastrami and it was some of the best pastrami I've had. The bagel ( everything) was also fantastic. Will def be back! read more
