I honestly do love their food but today put me over and I will never return. Our server took our order, brought our food and never returned. However I actually understood that she was swamped with a wedding party. However, what really took the cake is when my girlfriend asked another server (I think it was Natashia, the kgb agent from Rocky and Bullwinkle) if she could get our server and she flat out refused to even listen to what she was asking and put her hands up in her face as she walked by and then did the exact same to me, that was it. I ordered a burger from Moody's pub and had it delivered to my house through GrubHub. The wrong sandwich arrived at my house and it had blue cheese on it which I'm allergic to. When I called Moody's and told them they sent the wrong sandwich they said that if the GrubHub picked up the wrong order that was GrubHub's fault. GrubHub took the sandwich that Moody's gave them. So I paid almost $20 for a meal that I can't eat. Moodys Refuses to send another meal. Shame on Moodys for blaming somebody else for their mistakes. read more

VEGANS: The Veggie Burger is the only option for a burger. It's pitiful at best. It looks like canned mixed vegetables pressed into a patty. They should make the switch to either the Beyond or the Impossible burger. You'll need to order the veggie burger on wheat bread (bun isn't vegan). Drink-wise you get more bang for the buck with the sangria...the other drinks are served in a narrow glass with lots of ice...not worth the price. read more

Fuuuuuuuk! This burger is BOMB AF! Le-fuckin-git! I do not eat hamburger but every once in a while, I get a hankering. Cheeeseburger with onion, bacon, avocado, chaze..... it was SO juicy! I've been going to Moody's for decades, and have never had a bad experience until this year...Their French fries are now SOGGY and dripping in oil, they used to be so good! It's like they forgot how to make French fries. Burger was over-cooked, not medium rare, and unseasoned. I've tried both delivery and eating-in a few times this year and it seems like they just don't care anymore...I used to recommend Moody's to everyone, so sad. read more

I love how they made a bar out of a holly place. Very unique design and I looooooved patio sitting - perfect for warm fall nights or hot summer days. Drinks are relatively cheap (but very sugary). We did spot a few rats running around the patio which kind of kill the mood (I assume they are there due to close proximity to an ally) but overall experience was good. read more

Moody's is your old-school, darkly decorated pub serving up classic pub fare. They're known for their burgers and fries, plain and simple! Inside is a large bar and plenty of tables. Outside is a pretty spacious, lovely patio with a brick wall and greenery that made a great photo backdrop for the private event I was at Moody's for. It was lovely on a summer night. I tried the burger, fries, onion rings, and fried shrimp. All were quite delicious! The burgers come with all the standard toppings - raw onion, tomato, lettuce, etc. The fries were of the thicker variety, which I love. The onion rings were thick, large, and didn't totally fall apart when you tried to eat them which was nice. Shrimp was delicious as well. I consumed a lot of Goose Island as part of the party's offerings, but I'd assume that the full bar can provide any drink you'd like. I used to go to Moody's Pub all the time. It had been a while and I was craving a hamburger but not just any hamburger, but yhe Moody blue cheese burger, sub grilled onions for fresh. I ordered delivery and it arrived early. I got a side of onion rings in addition to the fries that come with the hamburger. The burger was amazing as always, seasoned to perfection. The onion rings for crispy and yummy. I dip my onion rings and mustard and I requested extra mustard packets and my order and they were there. The reason for stars is because the fries were sad. I'm not sure if it's due to the container being plastic or just old fries, as they were oily as well. read more

A fire, a date, a burger... I savored my Moodyburger in the back booth by a fire, dipping crispy fries in mayo and dousing my non-stop day with a peachy cocktail. Primitive pleasure- meat and fire. If I hadn't had to push lunch aside, there would have been leftovers- the patty is thick, chunky and juicy, the bun toasted, topped with slice of tomato, onion slices, lettuce leaf, pickle spear and you can glob all the ketchup, mustard, mayo you want on top of that (they offer bacon too- which I recommend). The Boyfriend's Blue Cheese burger had a thick, heaping, generous topping of cheese that rivaled the girth of the burger patty itself! See the pictures posted? Stinky creamy cheesy heaven for those of you that like that sort of thing. There were no leftovers, so hearty and filling. We were there on a unexpectedly gorgeous April Sunday late afternoon. This is a great spot to enjoy the good weather and have a leisurely drink and/or meal. The service was extremely slow, as some other reviews have mentioned. Apparently they could not find servers to come in when it turned out to be so nice out and therefore busier than anticipated. But they were friendly, and the food was good! I really enjoyed my cheese burger, and the onion rings were made well. You can't really go wrong here when you can enjoy the huge patio on a nice day. I don't think I would ever have any interest in eating inside though, b/c as others have mentioned, it is extremely dark. But there always seems to be room in the patio, and that's what I go for! read more

The two best things about Moody's Pub? They have their own free parking lot just north of the building and the servers are friendly and efficient. Other than that- it is a typical bar with typical bar food. Oh sure- the ambiance is reminiscent of a north woods lodge- large timbers painted black with fireplaces to cozy up to (we were actually very close to one of the fireplaces and we kept moving away because it was so hot!) The food was a mixed bag. I had a burger which was actually quite good (order it medium as it comes closer to medium rare) set on a soft bakery bun. It is served with the normal burger "accouterments" but you do have to ask for mayo on the side. However the fries were undercooked and limp and really not very tasty. We were the largest group in the place and several of the patrons must have thought we were at a fine dining establishment as they kept asking us to be quieter. What the heck? It's a bar, people! Not Charlie Trotters! People have fun in bars! We never could get our tone to the level for everyone's satisfaction so our group disbanded and went to other bars around the area. The thing that bothered me most about the place had to be the smell. There appeared to be a lack of proper ventilation in the place so you leave with your clothes smelling like cooking oil. Not my favorite smell in the world. The good news is that Moody's is no smoking so at least you don't have that to contend with. The prices are reasonable but bring cash as they don't take plastic. Finally, I have heard stories about the Beer Garden during the Summer months so I might have to go back and check that out. Something about the very talented squirrels that live back there . . . . . .Maybe they would make my overall experience a little better! read more

First Moody's visit of the season! I love this place! My sister and I dodged the raindrops with impeccable timing on Monday (curse you Hot Doug for closing for the week!) and ate lunch in the beer garden. There were only four other brave souls out there, but I look forward to busy Saturday evenings here over the rest of the summer. The burger was not the Moody burger of old, and the school-cafeteria-quality bun was a serious handicap. Hopefully this was just a fluke. Onion rings, hand-cut fries, and the Moody salad were as good as ever (i.e. really really really good). Sangria pitchers are up to $9.50 but still a bargain; beer pitchers are $9-$11 and the eleven-dollar stuff is pretty good--Beck's, Anchor Steam, Berghoff Dark. Some of the food bargains are still amazing, like the fish sandwich and fries for $6 (it's good, too). Waitress was very friendly this time, but you can't count on that. But the idea of a burger sounded . . . great. Boom! It's still dark, but now it's . . . cozy. The stale grease smell has been cleaned up. The burgers. Whoa. Hit the spot. Just perfect. Delicious, juicy. Maybe not Kuma's quality, but it's not Kuma's prices either. Adorable waiter, he could not have been cuter or nicer. One thing. Not too long ago, I moved from Wicker Park to the Andersonville(ish) area. Although I love the neighborhood, Clark street doesn't tackle that craving for some greasy spoon comfort food. It was only a matter of time I stumbled (NOT LITERALLY) into Moody's. If you've read my reviews, I'm a sucker for wood paneling and 1970s ascetics. It's dark inside, and it has that old restaurant smell (if you've been to Exchequer downtown, you know what I'm talking about). The overall setting feels like a warm hug. As a added plus, there's an amazing beer garden that surrounds you with rod iron and stone walls. It's awesome in the Summertime. Anyway, enough with the sappy, let's get onto the drinks and food. Both are good. What can I say? If you're looking for a burger and beer, this is your spot. They have a few TVs around if you're interested in catching the game. The service is also top notch. THEY SPLIT CHECKS. I repeat, THEY SPLIT CHECKS. All these reasons and more keep me coming back throughout the year. Hopefully, you'll feel the same. "Why only three stars?" my sister asks, Especially after I said I had a good time there and enjoyed their burger. I do like their burger, it reminds me a lot like Jury's where they let the meat take center stage. It's good, not fancy but definitely cooked well. My most recent visit was spent both in and out doors since spring in Chicago has more personalities than Sybil. The outside is a great place, my friend said it reminds her of King Arthur's court, I say anything's possible but it is nice. A great open space that is set away from the street SPF (Street protection factor) 45 for sure. There's no risk of getting hit by a bicyclist or a wandering dog coming up to me. The interior is okay, it is dimly lit, but it is an old-school type of bar and that's part of the charm of the place, like Three's company or some other 70s sitcom was filmed there. Their selection of beers is interesting, a very small selection for sure. I like variety and this place doesn't have it. Also, can I say that it's weird that a place with this kind of notoriety doesn't accept credit cards? I know there's an ATM handy but it's a little annoying. I'll come back and I usually do because the place does have its charm but my last visit was almost a year ago and it will probably be the same amount of time for my next visit. read more

The main bar inside is so dark you can barely read the menu. Maybe that's why it's called moody's? But they have great burgers and the chicken is never overly dry. The outdoor seating is huge and popular in summer but you can still usually find seating quickly. My only complaint is they charge you for every diet coke you drink. Their patties are all frozen and largely tasteless, the old dark rye is now stale marbled rye and after 3 attempts, they could not manage to make a medium rare burger. 2 burgers and three glasses of overly sweet sangria with tax and tip = $60....outrageous!
