I was willing to accept that the palm locations would be less than perfect due to existing plants. Angel and crew went above the norm and transplanted at least one large plant. Paid $200 to have an expert come out to my home and advise me on landscaping. When I hadn't heard back from him in a month I called and he responded with an absolutely ridiculous photoshopped picture with gargoyles, a kitchen in the middle of the yard and unlabeled foliage. I found out latter that the "expert" had no formal training and was just a salesman. I requested a refund because he hadn't given me any useful information and they agreed. Since then I have gone back to them 3 times about the refund and they tell "it's in the mail" or "we lost your address". At this point I have wasted enough time and accept the fact that I got ripped off. In all fairness I want to let anyone reading my review to know that owner responded to my review by intervening on my behave and I was reimbursed the $200. read more

Moon Valley Nurseries were amazing! We shopped around long before we were ready to plant our trees and found a strong selection of healthy options for us. We purchased them ahead of time, MVN kept them on the property until we were ready and we then worked out a delivery window appropriate for the C-19 situations. Angel's crew of 7 showed up. Planted both of our trees properly and certainly had to work for their job (sorry guys - lots of stone here!). The were delivered on time, in and out in less than an hour. Ben Warrick and his team planted two oak trees in our front yard to replace two builder grade trees that were in tree rings that did not make through the winter snow. They removed the old root balls and planted the new trees nice and straight in the middle of the tree rings. Ben took the time to clearly explain to me how to properly care for the new trees along with the proper schedule for feeding, fertilizing and watering. The team put in the extra effort to install a 3rd tree stake at my request. They were also very careful around the tree rings and installed the trees without damaging them. This careful and conscientious effort is greatly appreciated. We had purchased from Moon Valley when we lived in Arizona and knew they were the right choice to replace our trees. We purchased a new home and decided to purchase some large shrubs to add some privacy to our back yard. Moon nursery was the only place that had large shrubs we could purchases. We purchased 2 large shrubs. 60 days after having our shrubs planted one started to die. it was replaced for free and I decided to purchase a one year warranty on the replacement. several months later the second one also died. This summer the warranty scrub was doing great but in July it started showing signs of stress and also died. I contacted Moon and explained the situation, the response I received was purchase another warranty and we will replace it. All said and done we spent 3k and have no schrubs. Moons answer was always buy more warranties, IE spend more money to make it right. read more

She loves her job and it showed. She walked all over with us answering every question in this outdoor gorgeous nursery. She personally assisted and loaded up our beauties. Then Mr. Curtis, a perfect gentleman, personally unloaded the plants from the cart into our vehicle, carefully laying plastic to keep the car clean. First, Angel and his crew are the BEST and always do a phenomenal job planting. Ask for Angel to do your installation - he's a huge asset to Moon Valley - meticulous, super hard worker, and an all around awesome person who takes great care and pride in what he does. Second, if you want a bargain, this is not the place you'll find it. But they have some irresistible, gorgeous trees. We've made several investments over the past 2ish years since we moved here - some not so great sales experiences and some hiccups along the way but we're overall pleased. If you're impatient and want instant gratification, and you're willing to pay a premium for that, Moon Valley is a great option. Third, consider getting the extended warranties - they're pricey and it's annoying that you need them, but they are super flexible and have saved my hide more than once when some of my trees went south for various reasons. I recommend Moon Valley if you are the kind of person that considers landscaping an investment and you want to see impact on Day 1. Robert is a super friendly sales rep who is responsive and a pleasure to work with. If you want something, he'll find it for you. And Angel is the greatest installer you have and a huge asset to your business, so give him a raise :) read more

We recently built a new home and while we have lots of foliage it needed more pizzazz! We scheduled an appointment with Bryn and she promptly met us when we arrived. Of course we had a budget, explained our new pool layout and she had everything we emailed over printed. It was an excellent experience as she helped us pick the best trees for our properties esthetic (contemporary). She even surprised us with a few choices we hadn't given thought to. I had a similar bad experience with Moon Valley when buying a Japanese Blueberry tree. After 2 months, it was looking bad which Moon Valley said was shock. After 5 months, it was dead. I asked to have it replaced and they would charge me to have it replaced and would not allow a selection of something other than a Japanese Blueberry. Surprising and dissappointing. read more

I purchased 3 large Chilean Mesquite trees from MVN Buda. I could not be more impressed with their "curb-side delivery services". We had a landscaping contract that included the installation of the trees but an arrangement of my landscaping company for me to purchase the mesquite trees I wanted. The trees are phenomenal. Even my landscape project boss thinks so! I could not have been more pleased with the delivery of these large, beautiful Chilean Mesquite trees. IMO-it was flawless. Kudos to Mauricio and his crew from MVN Buda for making the delivery stress-free. Updated Review! Chris the General manager reached out to me a day after posting my review. He was very eager to rectify the awkward feeling I walked away with after making my initial purchase. He explained to me the policies and procedures so that there was no misunderstanding. He made it clear that I was a valued customer and even thanked me for my military service! He made it possible for me to get the shrubs I was looking at to finish my front garden bed, waived delivery and planting charge and even sent me off with a bottle of moon juice for the shrubs. I came here to redo the front landscaping of my home. I saw on their website they offered a landscaping design so I was hoping to get this done. I was looking for a nice flowering tree and some plants to fill a flower bed that is in front of a picture window. Upon entering I was immediately approached by a coworker who asked questions about what I was looking for. He was knowledgeable on the trees and plants but it felt like he was just eager to make a sale and say what I wanted to hear to make that happen. I also didn't like the fact that he told me delivery was going to be $150 and then up-charged me $50 when doing the paperwork and said it would be $200. I didn't end up buying anything for the flower bed because it felt like he was up charging me I was looking at 4 plants that were priced $29.99 and he wanted to charge me $10 each extra to plant them in the flower bed. I did purchase a tree and would have purchased more if I didn't feel like the worker helping me was trying to tac on additional costs. I understand it's a business and they need to make a profit but the experience was very awkward for me. read more

I highly recommend Moon Valley Nursery. My wife and I made a visit to this nursery to get an idea of what they had in stock. I'm glad we did because they absolutely have the greatest and healthiest selection of trees I have ever seen, and they are enormous in size. We worked with Laurie Liedeker who has a wealth of tree knowledge and helped my wife and I sort through various options. We had copy of our property survey and explained what we wanted to do with the trees regarding shade, some evergreen, privacy, and resistance to deer. Laurie made some suggestions, answered our questions, and showed us some trees. She even offered to come out to our home to see our property in person and make suggestions. We also worked with Chris Eastwood, who helped us consider cost vs what we wanted. No pressure sales tactics and Chris listened to our budget concerns and designed a tree package that addressed all of our needs and was within budget. We purchases 7 trees that included Arizona Cypress, 2 Cherry Laurels, Monterrey Oak, Pecan, Camphor, and Sycamore. The tree sizes were "Giant" (approx 95 gallon) and "Huge" (approx 45 gallon). Prices include planting and where I live west of I35, there is a ton of rock. The day of planting they brought of crew of 5 guys with jackhammers and shovels. They finished all the planting in one day and it's been just over a month and the trees look great. This is even after having the hottest August and September since 2011, and with many days over 100 degrees. read more

Their prices are insane. Called for a quote on a Desert Museum...they said it's usually $2,000 but it's on sale for $1,000. Went to the local nursery and bought the same tree for $135. On another occasion I asked them to quote me on a several shrubs to build a privacy hedge....$28,000, for a hedge. Who pays these prices? read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Inept from the beginning. I called asking for someone to come out to my home to help design my backyard. He showed up... a day late. I waited for him to get back to me with a rendering and a quote... and waited... and waited. It wasn't until I hounded him that I got the quote. He asked us to pick out the trees and shrubs we wanted, so we went to the nursery to pick out the plants. We did and gave him a list of things we were interested in. He gave us a quote but failed to detail which specific plants we'd be getting. Again, we asked for recommendations from the list we gave him. We didn't necessarily need every plant on our list... we wanted his recommendation as to which plants would work best with the others, both aesthetically and health-wise. He didn't give us a list, so I had to drive back down to talk to him. Of note, I tried several times to call the manager. When I called the number listed on the website, the call went to voice mail. The voice mail message was, "We're sorry, the mailbox is full." I got the same message when I called their corporate office. When I met with him to voice my concerns, he immediately asked if I just wanted to cancel the order. He was clearly rude about it, as if we were inconveniencing him by asking him to do his job. We said no, we didn't want to cancel, we just wanted everything to be fixed. Now, they were supposed to come out the next day to plant the trees and shrubs. Because we had made some changes, such as deleting two trees and adding one, the salesman told us the delivery would have to be delayed by a week or two. We didn't like that, but it wasn't the worst thing, and understandable. Nevertheless, a crew showed up at our house bright and early the next morning. Their job was to prepare the yard by digging the holes for the trees. They did so, and told me another crew would be along a bit later to install the trees. When they showed, they didn't have the right plants. So, there's now a big hole in my backyard without a tree in it. When I confronted their assistant manager on it, he told me it would be at least a month before they could deliver and install the tree because they have other deliveries they had to make. Let's back up. On one of my first visits I asked for a referral of someone who could do some work in my yard like mulching. I was given the name of a person who came out, seemed nice, and took my money. It's been a month, and the guy still hasn't been back to finish the job. Not even half-way done. Oh, by the way... the guy is also works for Moon Valley. Funny how no one told me that. They've been back... delivering the wrong plants. Bottom line, if you want to buy some plants from Moon Valley, knock yourself out. But if you want them to do any actual work, go somewhere else. These guys over-promise and under-deliver. I'm seventy and spent my life in customer service and sales. This is the worst service I've ever seen. I'm hoping the job will be finished by the end of 2024, but I don't hold out much hope. UPDATE: I received the message below from Moon Valley HQ and was pretty hopeful I would get a resolution. Sadly, I haven't heard from the local manager yet, and it's been a couple of days. Just ridiculous. "Hi Jim, I am so sorry to hear you've had anything less than the best from Moon Valley Nurseries. I have notified Bryn Mahoney, our general manager of our Austin nursery, and asked that she reach out directly to you to resolve this immediately. What is the best phone number for Bryn to get in touch with? UPDATE: Naturally, Bryn never got in touch with me. Try again, Moon Valley. This just gets more ridiculous with each attempt by this organization to at least do something. I'd be happy to talk with Bryn. I'd prefer face-to-face. read more

At the nursery he showed us the many varieties that would work.He is very knowledgeable and helped us out identifying our existing plants and tree species that would compliment them. It is wonderful that Moon Valley has arrived and set up a beautiful nursery right when so many folks were afraid that the location would turn into another apartment complex. They renovated and thus saved the old house, making it just gorgeous inside, and they are preserving the old Oak tree at the back of the property. I posted photos of the old house --- now beautiful offices geared to both small and large landscape projects. **as for the plants they grow their own, and most are either native or good to grow in our zone...except for a select few, they sell some invasive plants but in Texas it is legal to do so. The top 24 Austin Invasive Plants list has more information. I say always keep them in containers, or look at the List for good native substitutions. Did you like the staff from Red Barn ( the previous owner has moved on)? I did, and 15 or so of the original staff are still working here--- and they are welcoming people who always seem to have time for customers! read more

I'm so disappointed in the customer service here. We sent a small fortune and the way they scheduled us made no sense- late in the day with hours worth of work. We were told they'd be here at 9am to only show up at 3pm. We were told trees would be planted April 15, to actually be planted May 2. Texts left ignored numerous time. Excuse after excuse was given even though they had our money and we had no trees. Zero communication with us- the customer and with each other. Installers had no idea the amount of work that was needed once they arrived. Never again. read more

Moon Valley is selling invasive plants such as Ligustrum, the Zebra Mussel of the plant world. This is very irresponsible. Austin's own Grow Green guide even lists Ligustrum as an invasive to remove and replace with native alternatives such as Mexican Silktassel or Cherry Laurel. We used to stop in when this was Red Barn and were eager to add a new nursery to our list when Moon Valley opened. We were beyond disappointment after our Moon Valley visit. Staff are welcoming but uninformed of local natives and widespread invasives. They're business model is to sell unreasonably large plants to unknowing buyers (and builders). Plants are so large you have to hire Moon Valley to deliver and install ($$$). One issue of many is that the $700 Blue Glow Agave--- it was at mature size, ready to bloom. Once it blooms, it dies. Do the purchasers of the $700 Blue Glow know that the ~$1000 or more they'll pay after install will get them maximum a few years before the plant is dead (because it lived its lifespan)? The cherry on top was a staff member redirecting our search for oakleaf hydrangea (not in stock) to another non-native plant (in stock) that doesn't like the Edwards Plateau--- they were either uninformed or outright lying to us. We were told oakleaf isn't suited to the area (not true) and the plant he suggested was more adapted to this area (also not true). Moon Valley, please demonstrate some responsibility and remove all invasives from your inventory and take advantage of the many free local classes on natives and organic practices. The Natural Gardener, Barton Springs Nursery, and Hill Country Water Gardens are 3 more responsible and informed nurseries to check out. read more
