I visited Moonbelly yesterday and got some really delicious treats including a beautifully made quiche with buttery eggs and vegetables. The crust was ultra light and flaky. It was absolutely delicious and I would 100% buy this again! This bakery is definitely one of my favorites in town and it's one of the newest bakeries in Sacramento! Be sure to try them out! After coming here more than I dozen times I can confidently say this is Sacramento's finest bakery. Everything on offer is lovingly made from scratch. From crusty loaves of cheesy bread, to savory egg and ham filled pastries, to unique sweet treats like the cardamom bun, to meticulously decorated marzipan candies there is something for everything on offer here. They also have a limited but well curated drink menu which includes lemonade, hot chocolate, coffee and a rotating cold brew special. If you come during peak hours expect to wait in line for a few minutes. Although they are quick at getting through the line people understandably flock to this location on Saturday and Sunday mornings. If the whether is rainy bring an umbrella as there may not be sufficient room for the full line inside. The interior of the bakery smells and looks incredible. Aside from baked goods, they also sell vinegar shrubs, marshmallows, bandannas and other assorted swag. Brave the lines and give this place a try, you won't regret it! read more

Small bakery with great bread! This is a small bakery, in a small parking lot, and a long line (it moves pretty fast). All I had was a baguette, traditional croissant, and a chocolate croissant. Moonbelly is so delicious. I stopped by on a Saturday morning to pick up some baked goods and was blown away. Their breads are so tasty - literally everything I had was delicious. Start with a simple chocolate cossiant and go from there. The service was great. Lines get long but the staff works fast and is very nice. They answered all the questions I had. This was my first time at Moonbelly Bakery and I had a wonderful experience. They had a decent range of pastries such as croissants (traditional, chocolate, and fruit), cinnamon buns, cardamom buns, quiche, loaves of bread and more. We bought several pastries and they were delicious. Well made. The buns were light, soft and flaky; the layers were amazing. Not overbaked or underbaked. Sweet and buttery, not too overpowering. Price is a bit more than I'm willing to pay; however, it's a once in a while thing. One thing I wished was that our pastries were warmer. I was surprised especially when it felt like being in an oven when I walked in. Lines were long, but they moved fast at 10AM on a Sunday. Seating is limited, just a few outdoor benches in the front. By 10 AM (4 hours before their closing) they are sold out of their "popular items". Then you are hungry, drove all the way to the bakery, waited for parking in a cramped little spot, stood in line outside and you end up caving in to pay $7 for a plain croissant (no different from the TWELVE - YES 12 - count that you can get for $6 at Costco) or some abomination of an experiment like rosemary and grape garlic bread (that no one wants) and regret wasting your money. There is a $5 slice of banana bread - that is INSANE. Oh and there is the infamous off-putting tip screen at checkout. Not sure why they create a fake hype. Why don't they, after being in business for years, take the time to understand their customers and figure out what people want / focus more on their popular items? I don't normally leave negative reviews, but I went there two days in a row to deal with same thing. Need to stop supporting small businesses if they treat their customer base like this. Great to see a local bakery in Sacramento! I have been here for 3 times now, so I can give a thorough review. First of all, I like that I can see the kitchen in the shop and I know everything is baked fresh on that day! The traditional croissant is super flaky. Not a fan of the cardamom bun - just didn'tlike the taste on a pastry. Huge fan of the chocolate chip shortbread cookie and will definitely come back just for that. I also had the focaccia bread and it's amazing, but it's huge. I couldn't finish the quarter sheet, and have to share it with my sister. I finally had the opportunity to try Moonbelly bakery on a Saturday morning. When I arrived, the parking lot was pretty full and there was a line out the door, however, it did move quickly. It was incredible to watch the bakers as they were working, while I waited in line to place my order. I decided to try a variety of things, as I wasn't sure when the next time I would be able to stop by again would be; they are open limited hours and limited days. I also knew that I would get deterred to visit the next time if I had to wait in line again. I ordered a chocolate croissant, an almond croissant, a mushroom and Gruyère pastry, a ham and egg pastry, and a ham and cheese pastry. I split each one with my husband, over the course of two days, and everything we tried, was absolutely delicious. The pastries and croissants were flaky and full of buttery flavor. Everything was baked to perfection. I will definitely be a loyal customer, and returning soon to try some of their loaves of bread. read more

I love this bakery so much. Everything is sourdough, so easier for me to digest. Their sourdough croissant is a marvelous experience. I always love when I can get there early enough to order a good sample of their seasonal fruit pastries and their seasonal savory pastries. But if I get there after 10:30/11 those are mostly gone. It's ok though, because there's a consolation: the focaccia and sandwiches come out fresh at that time! They are so good I'm a little sad that I have to choose between focaccia and the seasonal treats. I find that the bread keeps well all week, as long as we keep it in an airtight bag. Be prepared for a line, especially on the weekend, but it's worth it. Saturdays there is often music on the patio which makes the line extra sweet. I'm also a big fan of their rotating flavored cold brew- a different interesting flavor each week with oatmilk. I'm not much of a coffee drinker anymore but I'll splurge for the more interesting coffee flavors. GF FOLKS: only 1-2 items baked fresh for you. A delicious flour free chocolate cookie. And sometimes an almond cake, which I think is gluten free, if I remember correctly. However the store shelves have lots of little goodies that are worth a thorough perusal. You can really feel the love that is put into everything here. I try to come weekly for my favorite bread and treats. Ummm how have I not known that this place existed? I am shook, in awe, aghast! We found Moonbelly bakery through social media and man, we are sure happy that we did! I have a theory that they call it Moonbelly because your belly looks like a full moon when you're done eating all of the delicious foods. We came at around 0900 on a Saturday morning. I thought that the line was long and was humbled to learn that we were standing in a very short line in comparison to what it usually is. When you walk inside it's a very small facility, and you'll see that the line wraps around the counter. They have adorable, local jams and jellies and eco friendly ways to collect them. The staff is super friendly and very sweet. But I will say if you have your eyes on something that you absolutely want, make sure that you get there when they open, otherwise your options are what's left at that point. They have an amazing selection for everybody. Those that love sweets, those that love savory, and those that love both. The parking lot was quite full. I came here in the morning before 11:00am and there was a line outside the door. People started cramming inside afterwards though. There is some outside seating- two picnic tables, some chairs and a bench. No seating inside as it is quite compact. I had the cinnamon roll, chocolate croissant, and ham & egg. I love the name of this bakery! Pastries are delicious but a bit pricy with the portion size. I tried the cardamom bun, almond croissant, fruit croissant and ham and cheese croissant. Always drove by this place and always see the line out the door. So my girlfriend has decided to try it and we were definitely impressed. It looks a lot bigger than it is. It's actually quite small so explains why there's a line at the door. They have a nice variety of different pastries and sweets. Moonbelly is new to my local bakery repertoire but it has certainly moved its way up to the top! I have been looking for an excellent croissant since moving here 7 years ago and have found a few close hits, but until today I assumed I'd have to wait until a trip to my favorite SF bakery. The wait can be a bit but it is absolutely worth it if you want a buttery and flakey croissant that gives you a satisfying crunch and those lovely bits of croissant "sprinkles" all over your shirt. You know what I mean ;) They offer traditional and chocolate croissants--I didn't see the almond today but was happy to buy both, as well as a cinnamon bun, a ham and cheese, a goat and tomato, roasted carrot tart and their Gruyère loaf and olive twist breads. I inhaled the goat cheese and tomato and the carrot tart for breakfast and had an olive twist with my salad for lunch today. All of them were fresh, flavorful and perfect. My husband said I had the biggest smile when he turned around and saw me shoving pastries into my face. Pastries range from $4-$7 depending on what you get, and the loaf was $10 I believe. On par with local handmade baked goods. There is a parking lot which has a good number of spots but it does fill up quickly. Just please be a good human and respectful and don't park like a d-bag. Everyone wants tasty pastries and I saw a car or two park such that the spot next to them was unusable. They are open limited hours and days (Fri-Sun) from 8am to 12pm or whenever they are out. Be patient as they are still settling into their bakes, customer interest and staffing. But I hope they find continued success and grow so I can regularly get croissant sprinkles on my clothes! read more

Some of our favs that were recommended and we enjoyed the most: ham and egg, cardamom bun and mushroom + cheese. We live in Roseville and it's 100% worth the 30-minute drive. Super nice staff. The peach croissant was pretty good. Flaky, moist, and crutch. While I was there, they brought out some pork belly sandwiches. It's has pork ham and some onion. I grabbed 1@$8.95. The protein got flavored, but the bread to pair with it was ok. The type of meat just reminds me of banh mi. So I need that nice crutch soft baguette. It's a cute pastry store. It is a tiny place. Moonbelly has hands down the best almond croissants - I might even say better than the top bakeries in SF (used to live there and I've tried them all!). They don't overload it with almond paste and instead use real almonds - so so good. We also love their egg and ham pastry. But you genuinely can't go wrong with anything - their bread is also fab. And personally I think the prices are very fair compared to other spots in Sacramento. Parking also sucks as many have commented. And both of our favorite items sell out SO early that if I'm not in line before 8am (when they open), I've learned to not bother going at all. I've gone way too many times hoping I'll get lucky (arriving at 8:30-9am) and have been terribly disappointed. The chaos of parking and not getting what you came for is sure to ruin anyone's day. One does not simply walk into Moonbelly ;) I wish they would just make triple or quadruple the amount of almond croissants. Or limit customers to a max of 2 per person. read more

We're very excited about having this wonderful new bakery in this side of town! Thanks to other Yelpers for tipping us off that they are open! We got in line before they opened on a Saturday morning. As we waited for our turn to go inside, we got teasing whiffs of warm baked bread, butter, and sugar. So awesome! The line moved pretty quickly and soon it was our turn to oogle at all the pretty pastries. Like many others we couldn't resist to get some of nearly everything. So far the ham and cheese and the cinnamon buns are delicious. The ham and cheese is crispy and flaky with a nice balance of ham and cheese. The cinnamon bun has a right amount of cinnamon. We ate a couple of the pastries on the bench outside the shop and got to watch the bakers work through the window on tomorrow's goodies. They also make breadsticks, cookies, and jams, which are arranged on a cupboard to the left once inside. We didn't see them until after we paid. Oh my gosh, Moonbelly Bakery is one that's been long awaited. I used to live in an apartment building next to it and when I saw the sign go up, I got so excited. Lucia's operation is small, but mighty. I got to try some of her sourdough when she was testing them out pre-opening. Her goal is to be a small, neighborhood bakery slinging goods to the neighbors. Her goal has been accomplished and she's more than just the neighborhood baker, as evidenced by how fast everything has sold out in just the three days she's been open. I came in first thing in Friday, grand opening day. I got the ham and egg croissant, chocolate croissant, and regular croissant. So good. I came in again same time on Sunday and the line was already out the parking lot, and the wait time was about 30 min. I watched her sell out of strawberry croissants as I salivated in line. This time, I got the ham and egg, ham and cheese, cardamom, cinnamon bun, butternut croissant, chocolate croissant, and almond croissant. Don't let the flaky crunchy outsides of the cardamom and cinnamon buns fool you. They are so chewy and soft in the middle. The almond croissant really stole the show for me though. Most folks slap almonds and powdered sugar on top and call it good. Not Moonbelly. The filling inside is the perfect amount of sweet and juicy. Now if I could just get my hands on the strawberry croissant... and I saw a peach one on Instagram too! read more

I'm giving it 1 star because it's a basic bakery with a line out the door on weekends and allows hateful messages on their building. I was surprised by that and unimpressed by the actual baked goods. This bakery was on my list for trying out. I finally had a chance to see what the hype was all about. The lot is soooo small, you have to be patient for parking. When I arrived there were two before me and I heard the prices as they were checking them out, 80 something, 90 something and I thought to myself- holy s$&& what! For bread?? They don't have prices listed- well you wonder why! They like to check you out with a big surprise bill! I ordered a sandwich loaf and 4 peanut butter cookies, quiche and vegan melt and small bags of cookies, totaling over 70 dollars. I drove home over 20 min to find that my loaf was missing and so were my peanut butter cookies. By the time I realized, the bakery had already closed. Zero number only an email, I sent an email right away, zero response. Next day, waited and nothing, no response so I drove back again, long line all the way to the sidewalk- come on!! Customer service is decent, but obviously they are so high stressed and worked that they forget to pack the right orders. So I didn't wait in line and just went in and asked about the email and they had to check to confirm, they hadn't even checked their emails! Peanut butter cookies are delicious, the bread is good, not drooling I need to wait an hour for a loaf, but good. The Vegan melt was ok- the quiche was good and the rest of the butter cookies are good as well. Nothing to really drag you in and say- damn that sh& is mighty delicious. I need to come back and wait in a long ass line for over 70 dollars worth of bread and cookies. Highly overpriced, I believe and just not that welcoming and personal. Wow wow wow! I came here on a Friday morning around 7:45 AM before the bakery opened at 8 AM. Already, there was a line forming and we were about 7th? in line. The bakery instantly opened at 8 and people rushed inside. The inside itself is relatively small so only a chunk of customers can go in at a time. The line itself moves fairly fast since you just ask if you want a box or paper bags, then order your pastries as someone speedily packs it for you. There's only 2 people (probably changes depending on the day) working at the front so it might take some time if you plan to order from their cafe since one person has to work the counter while the other is cashier. There were a few goodies that I've been anticipating to try but weren't able to since they were still baking some of the pastries, which would take ~15-20 more minutes before they were ready. I was able to score the last almond croissant (woooo!) which made me happy. The pastries themselves are so flaky and flavorful. The almond croissant was possibly the best one I've had. The filling isn't too thick, it's rich and buttery which melts into the croissant so that it remains moist. There is a thick crust on top as well and each bite was the perfect amount of sweetness. I wasn't able to try every pastry since I bought a few for my family before carrying on with what I had during the day. I would definitely come here again! I've been wanting to try this place but it's challenging given the distance from me and limited hours. I finally made it on a Saturday morning. We arrived around 10 am and snagged a spot in the smallish parking lot. There was a line already. Note that once you get inside there is also a small line but at least you can see the goods...which go fast. I wanted a cardamon bun but the last one got sold a few people ahead of us. We got the chocolate croissant, salted sesame croissant, garlic bun, ham and cheese melt and Sardinia bread (which includes cheese and anchovies). We enjoyed the hot savory pastries best. The combination of cheese and bread was delicious fresh. The chocolate croissant was dark chocolate which I liked, and I also enjoyed the sesame flavor on the other croissant. However next time I would try the plain croissant, along with a veggie melt. read more

Moon belly has been a place I've been wanting to try but I feel like if you're not early then you're late and all of the best items would be gone. This is also one those places you should definitely do some research on because when I ordered I only ordered what I saw and people who've been there before already knew what they were ordering and if they didn't see what they wanted they asked for it. Definitely will do that next time. Anyway this place has its own parking lot. The building itself looks big but is small. when you walk in, it smelled so good. We ordered the not pizza, which was a focaccia bread with herbs, hint of lemon, and jalapeño toppings. It was great. The chocolate croissant, which was flaky and buttery. The banana nut chocolate bread. It was soft and tasted very good together (banana and chocolate). The chocolate shortbread was good as well. They have things to drink but it wasn't that much, just coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. You can see it written in the mirror behind the counter. Staff were friendly and I'm sure if you wanted to ask questions about their bread, and sandwiches I know they'd be happy to inform and help. They're so kind and very knowledgeable about their products. They said they do have certain loaves of breads they rotate with every week. Their special loaves are ready around 10AM Saturdays and Sundays. Their main loaves they have are the Table, Seed, & Walnut loaves. Their pastries are very nice too.
