Highly unorganized. I had the fish tacos, they tasted great but sadly the service kind of sucked. I'm rating one star because I forgot something at the restaurant that is very valuable to me, upon calling immediately to have them save it for me to pick up they said they absolutely have it safe. However they have appear to have lost my valuables. And on top of it they said they would keep in touch with me in the process of locating my stuff, to which they have done none of. Zero integrity. I feel I I don't matter to them. Which I probably don't. "I'll call you back in 10 minutes"...I call back an hour later after receiving no call back and the manager said "oh I haven't even started looking for it, call me in another 10 minutes"... Very low quality, bland and tough tasting food. They must use the lowest grade of meat and vegetables you can buy. They don't even have real butter, only margarine. If your use to eating organic real food with flavor that doesn't taste like plastic and chemicals go elsewhere. read more

I wish I would've read more of the reviews before we ate here. We always eat at the same places in Rockport and decided to give this place a try. It appears as if they are trying to expand the restaurant, so the entrance is through the kitchen. Unsanitary to say the least. We ordered brisket nachos that were just not good. Brisket was lukewarm and chunky. I ordered fish tacos for my entree. The wax paper they serve the food on begin to drip down my leg, through the table. The fish tacos were that greasy. Hubby had the grouper sandwich. The same problem. Super greasy. My daughter ordered the kids burger. Charred burger is not her favorite. We had to make to a stop on the way home because she got sick. The view is nice but I couldn't get over the overwhelming smell of fuel from boats right next to you and the sounds of construction next door. Service was not bad. But we did get there right when they opened. Only one other family there. I really wanted to like this place. Guess we will stick to the same ole places next time we visit Rockport. read more

Just ok. We had a very long wait between ordering and receiving our food. Our drinks were empty with no offer of refill till our food arrived. Mahi Mahi was very overcooked. Sadly disappointed in this place. We came in to a wait, which we expected. However, after a reaonable wait to get a table. ...there was a horrible wait to order the food. Then 20 minutes after we order we are informed they are out of crab. We then chose something else...waited 30 minutes for a burger and quesdilla only to be told that there were still 6 orders ahead of us. They gave us cold fries as a " sorry for the wait". I have been here before and thought the atmosphere great, the food decent. My daughter and I recently went back and we left quite dissatisfied. We were seated in a booth along the windows and had several visitors "flies". When we asked our waitress if we could move due to the flies she proceeded to tell us that the flies are everywhere and we should just slap them. So we tried to make the best of it. We were told they just got a new menu and the one thing we noticed was the increase in pricing. We ordered from the appetizer section. This restaurant seems to try but is just not good. We had the brisket nachos which had a lot of dry and fatty briskest chunks on top of c too much salty cheese and chips. We also had the peppered shrimp which had no real flavor and was drowned in to much margarine/butter. Not worth it. We left hungry because this food was just to hard to stomach. Poorly ran business. I don't blame them for hiring teenagers to work but they lack experience and just plain don't give a damn about the customers they're serving. They never check on you, take forever to take your order, didn't bring water when asked. I asked if the sweet potato fries could be cooked a few extra minutes and the waitress didn't know if that was possible. For all the staff I saw wandering around I couldn't get any service! The appetizer and my food as decent, but my husbands food was awful and the service left some to be desired. We got the appetizer crab cakes, they came out fast and they were yummy! I ordered the oyster po boy, it was good aside from the thick and starchy hoggy roll. It was like eating a giant slab of white bread, it wasn't toasted or steamed, just a giant chunk of overwhelming bread that really hid the taste of the delicious oysters. I asked for some horseradish sauce and was brought a side dish cup of a tiny amount of it mixed with a massive glob of watery sour cream, it tasted like old milk with no kick to it or anything, needless to say I didn't end up using that. My husband got the brisket and sausage, it was delivered to the table with only brisket and we were told they were out of sausage. We wish he would have been told before the food came out because he would have ordered something else. The brisket was tough and full of gristle. The side of "grilled asparagus" was soggy and had no crunch, definitely was not grilled, and if it was at some point is was hours prior and must have been sitting a steamer pot to keep warm. The presentation was absolutely terrible, it made it all look so unappetizing! Service was slow, we waited 20 minutes for the check we immediately put our debit card in it and the we waited 25 minutes more for her to pick it up. "Everything is Bigger & Better in Texas" usually rings true, except sadly when it applies to Moondog's. The once quaint, small local eatery with good service & great food has become "too big for their britches", & along with that, courtesy has gone out the door, in the way (back-in-the-day), record store employees thought they were "Rock Stars". On busy nights, you're corralled in like cattle or directed to the bar, where you are treated as if you are an inconvenience by the likes of...for anonymity sakes...let's call her "Maria". FYI DONT ASK FOR A FROZEN DRINK! Not only do they not serve them, but they obviously don't like to be asked. ALSO NO CALL IN TAKE-OUT ORDERS...they want you to go in, order & wait for easily 45+ min. (have experienced this not once, but twice), even if you offer your credit card info. Too bad...we are Rockport regulars @ this was one of our favorites, not only to dine, but to recommend as well. There are still a few of the waitstaff willing to provide good service, but overall sub-par & food is average at best. There are too many places in the area serving really GOOD food, with GOOD service, & yes FROZEN DRINKS on a hot summer day (imagine that!) that welcome your patronage. read more

The food was good, but I think the lack of efficiency in the kitchen is the problem. They said they weren't going to seat anybody until the kitchen could catch up making wait times 1.5-2hrs. Then with all the confusion in the kitchen our appetizer was taken by another table according to our waiter and two of our orders were not put in. Justin our waiter was great and accepted responsibility for the issue of the appetizer and the missed orders but, there seems to be a lack of management and leadership to make this place great and efficient. read more

Since the new management last year I've been here a couple of times (not a lot of options in Rockport). This place has a great view of the bay--that is the main selling point. The food can be hit or miss--during our last visit my fried shrimp were overcooked, but the time before that they were great. During the summer season they tend to get slammed and a lot of the waitresses seem new. There are some great waitresses who seemed to be really frustrated by the lack of organization/management. Pricewise it is overpriced, but you can sort of expect that in a touristy spot. The waitress we had last was pretty clueless about the drinks. There is no menu for the table and there are no prices even on the list that the waitress had. She did not even know the prices. My husband asked for a Lagunitas and she brought out something clearly not and ended up arguing a little but about it. She went to the bartender and confirmed it was wrong and brought the right beer. It should have been obvious from the color. Oddly this place seems to know their reviews are bad and told us to write one on trip advisor to get up the rating, but they really have not made any improvements. In short--overpriced, can be a lengthy experience and food can be hit or miss BUT great view on the water read more

I usually like to leave reviews the next day so I can be calm and fair after a night's sleep. We arrived at Moondog to a very hospitable and friendly hostess. Looking good so far. Then we were sat and got a table near the ocean (still looking good). The waitress was nice and appeared to be dealing with other issues in the kitchen from our impressions, but she did look like she was trying and working very hard (no problems, this happens). Then the bad crept in... LONG WAIT FOR FOOD -- One hour and nine minutes after ordering our food arrived (and it WASN'T terribly busy by now, however it was when we arrived). We saw sloppy table bussing and saw that the tables were not cleaned well AT ALL, which made us look at our table with concern. They were clearing the old dishes, etc. but not actually wiping the tables with a clean disinfecting rag. The food came and it wasn't bad (nor great), just kinda meh. Then we sat to enjoy the ocean after sunset and the ROACHES came out everywhere. No wonder the amount of food the bus staff swept on the ground from the tables with slits in them was a great lure to get the races to come feast. These were some of the largest tree roaches I have ever saw. I saw quite a few. HERE"S WHERE IT GOT BAD ENOUGH FOR ME TO REVIEW -- I asked for the manager and respectfully complained. She WASN,T warm, apologetic just DISMISSIVE. I told her what was good and bad to be objective, but that didn't make a difference. The ROACH complaint was met with I'll get the exterminator out, NEVER A "I'M SO SORRY," "I hate that you had that experience," We appreciate your business," NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!! Thinking about contacting someone higher up that may care, but probably just done. We will never return. read more

Busy Saturday night. Got there late, so expected to have to wait to be seated and for our food order. Management has to solve the problem of being shorthanded!! Were told there would be a long wait for food. Meanwhile, table on one side of us got up and left without paying when their food was served COLD! Table on other side was served cold food also, and the manager comped their food! Got worried, but our two ahi tuna salads were perfect, as was the grouper sandwich and crabcakes and shrimp. I was very disappointed with our experience at Moondog's. We waited an hour and a half for our food to arrive after ordering, all the while watching tables around us come and go. Our waiter was very apologetic. However when I order the most expensive entrèe on the menu I expect it to be at least nicely warm and a very tasty, boneless filet. It was not any of that. The food was not warm, the rockfish filet was not seasoned at all, and I pulled out five bones in my first bite. No one from management came to our table until we were finished, and then it was only because I called for them. I probably will not be revisiting this restaurant, and anyone who asks I will tell them of my experience. read more

After driving 1.5hr for a girls day of shopping with one of my best friends, we were starving! I chose Moondogs because of the great drinks, service, and food! We were told a 10 minute wait and waited about 15 minutes to be seated in the bar area. When asked what we wanted to drink, we asked for a drink menu. There was none. So we asked what was a speciality drink, he recommended some turtle something. I said I would take one and while my friend was on the fence I said "she will take one too!" Our waiter asked for my ID. I gladly handed it over. He flicked it, looked at it, held it up to the light, flicked it some more, rubbed it, and snapped it on the table. (I'm 24). This was very embarrassing and insulting. He then took my friends and looked at it and looked at her and very loudly asked for her date of birth. She was caught off guard and he gave us this look of shame. She told him her ID is real, she is about to be 22, and would like to speak with management. He walked off and returned stating that he could only serve us water. To which we replied we will take our service elsewhere. I will never return. If I could give negative stars I would. Talk about embarrassing. If you aren't grayed haired with a cane- don't come here looking for a drink! read more

This is quite a good place. The crab appetizers are very nice. The (fried) soft shell crab sandwich was good yet next time I will get the soft shell crab as a stand alone item. This is because the bun, lettuce and tomato concealed the nice taste of the soft shell crab. The sauce they serve with the crab cakes is the same as is on the soft shell crab. It reminds me of the sauce at Raising Cane's. The daily drink special was the berry daiquiri. it was good & came with whipped cream on top. I doctored it up minimally to make it a little sweeter. Please STOP using the prepackaged lettuce. It tastes like crap and is full of preservatives. It is an insult to a nice piece of fresh ahi tuna. How long can it take to chop some lettuce in the kitchen ? With fresh lettuce, you could charge more for this entree. Alot of people complaining about the spine of the romaine in all of the salads. Make a change for the better....please! I take the tuna off and throw the lettuce away. It is disgusting.....think about it management. read more

I read many reviews before patronizing an establishment. I was conflicted as there were as many negative reviews as positive. I did read the response from either owner or manager to one review and was impressed by the details of proof discrediting the reviewer's claims. It was my husband's birthday and his choice of where to eat. Called ahead and was told they weren't busy so we walked over (another positive) from our hotel (Lighthouse Inn and Suites). We had many choices of seating (about 5:00) and received the best server! I highly recommend Michael, a young man home from college for the summer. Anyway, the food. You are going to pay wherever you eat in Rockport/Fulton... it's a given. The more important issue is the quality of food you are paying for... R ordered fried oysters and I ordered fried shrimp. The portions are plentiful, the shrimp are huge and all was good! So, if you don't like long waits then get there early and ask for Michael if you go in the summer months! Also, nice view of water. Burgers and beer are great. Good venue right on the water at the mouth of Fulton Harbor. Service attitude at the door is poor but at the bar and once at a table, you will likely be happy with your server.Have had a variety of dinners with various fish and chicken fried steak and have been happy every time.
