This is a really sweet place to grab a sandwich, soup or smoothie and work. It's amazing that once you cross over the highway bridge and drive a few miles past Domino Farms, you end up in the cozy little land of Dixboro. I guess it's still technically Ann Arbor, perhaps? But it feels quite different. Quieter, relaxed. I've been to Moonwinks several times now, and enjoyed my meals. I believe it's the owner herself who is behind the counter much of the time, and all of the folks helping you will be friendly (and patient as you make up your mind!). The varieties of sandwiches and salads are pretty straightforward, but everything tastes pretty fresh and is filling without being heavy. I liked the chicken Caesar wrap, though I'm not a big fan of sanwiches where the lettuce is hot, so I'll probably opt for something else next time. Still, the texture of the chicken was great, and each smoothie I've tried has hit the spot. The latest was the Piña Something (that's the actual name, not just me being forgetful!), which was super-refreshing and sweet. There are a few outlets within reach of the tables, so it seems like a good place to work. I'm not sure if they have wifi, but if they do, I'd think this would be a nice place to come work/study on off hours if you were looking to an alternative to the undergrad-crammed coffeeshops downtown. Stopped by because it's close to work and thought I'd give it a try. Food is average and a bit over-priced. Customer Service was non-existent. The employee who took my order seemed like she couldn't be bothered. No Hi!, Thank you!, Have a Nice Day!, nothing. Same with the employee who made the sandwiches. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is for the Snicker latte. Really good and one of the few items I thought was reasonably priced. There are better placed to eat on Plymouth Rd. I have been visiting Moonwinks, after moving to the area about a year ago, relatively frequently. Almost everything about moonwinks cafe is absolutely wonderful! Each time I have the opportunity to stop in my food is served fresh with a smile. What I notice the most each time I step into Moonwinks is the commitment to satisfaction and personable service each of the employees have; unlike a Starbucks or other large coffee chain, one is given the opportunity to feel valued when visiting Moonwinks--even during a rush! I am leaving this review because the past few times I have visited Moonwinks, including yesterday, I have asked to speak to an owner or general manager (to express my appreciation for their wonderful food, drinks, and staff); each time I was met with the response "sorry, neither of them are here right now". While maybe I shouldn't be SO concerned, I still find it upsetting (and yet, admirable) that the staff of young adults at Moonwinks are left without general manager instruction, at least in the mornings! As someone with nearly a decade of experience in food and coffee service, I know that even the most committed team of young adults can need some support at times, especially when there's a line out the door. I would like to be given the opportunity to meet and speak to these general managers/owners one day because, as of right now, it seems like a bunch of 20 something's running the show--which is great, in a sense, but long story short, as a worker and the child of a successful and dedicated business owner, it's concerning when you never see the "face" of the company. I understand that Moonwinks has been a staple of this quite little village in the Ann Arbor area for a while now and is recently under new management/ownership; from what I read about Moonwinks from past reviews and articles, it doesn't seem like my concern of "who are the owners??" was an issue before. What a cute little place on the border of Dixboro and Ann Arbor. The menu is quite eclectic with a smattering of breakfast, lunch and dessert items. They serve Zingerman's coffee which apparently is a huge draw for this little cafe. My friend and I split the lox bagel sandwich and the pesto chicken wrap. Both were delicious although the lox bagel sandwich was definitely a great taste and deal. I loved having the smoked salmon and havarti cheese paired with a deliciously chewy bagel and some fresh veggies. Yum. The high ceilings makes it easy for noise to bounce around which results in loud conversations, but this is a really cute place in a really cute area. Used to come here every Friday. Loved the place, they used to have friendly staff, great food and awesome coffee. Since the new ownership has taken place, they've changed their menu to include weird flavor profiles that don't taste good. The staff is obviously annoyed with people asking questions about how and why things are different, and the ingredients that they claim are better, just don't make sense. Sadly, the place has lost its charm, going to have to find a new spot to eat on Fridays. read more

We were not greeted when we came in. The lady at the counter acted as if we had inconvenient her by ordering food. Is this place open for business or what? We don't understand such coldness and hostility. Her co- workers seemed to have a bad time too. When my name was called, a different person behind counter left the food in the table and walk away. There was no lunch crowds. I don't understand such rudeness. Being new to this cafe, we left our dishes on the front counter. Guess what? We were scolded for not bussing the dishes to the designated location. Wow! Such poor customer services in general. Quiche we ordered was delicious though. OKAY THIS IS GREAT! I from 2 large meca food towns, LA and Detroit. We were just going out for a day after new years drive post trash2020. I was starving and were just turned off the freeway, I mapped some 5 star place, not naming here. My sound was off and we missed it... lol, we ended at this adorbs cafe. The staff was perfectly sweet and kind and handle everyone's orders like clockwork and professional. They asked questions about how we wanted our order that even helped us incase we forgot to request something else, that really was so kind. The menu looked so great... I had to go with something staple, a chicken pesto wrap... water. Husband got some kind of bagel breakfast sandwich and a cap. I didn't know the wrap came with some kind of black pepper chips and a pickle.. .but damn every thing was so great, I never got a chance to take a photo. I thought about it... sorry? A tad overpriced but I love going here for the farmers market across the street and grabbing something to walk around town with. The Zingerman's coffee is a plus, although of course they brew older beans than Zingerman's cafe does (still much fresher than practically anything anywhere else). The food is good, not amazing. I usually get quiche which is very modestly cut. Overall, I think it has a cute, small town feel which I really appreciate. If you're looking for a wow factor, don't go here. It is hard to find parking in Ann Arbor. I was looking for a place to grab a coffee outside of the downtown area to avoid that problem. MoonWink is an awesome name so that led me here. It is a nice open layout and friendly atmosphere. I really wanted to ask what MoonWink means. I wonder if that is someone's name? Or like an alias? I watched a happy family eating food. The kids were giving it good reviews out loud, and kids are the most honest usually. Unless they are going to get into trouble with their parents or the law. Then they lie like hell. Wow, this as been the local "pub" for us for the last 2 years. We stop for breakfast on the way to school, coffee on the way to events, ice cream in the summer. Usually we see friends, neighbors, and parents from our son's schools. Stopped on Saturday and it has changed from a fun little cafe with books and games to an open box. No charm, no ambiance, and no customers. We're going to miss playing Disney Match on a Saturday morning while eating breakfast and sipping awesome Zingermanns coffee. If I wanted a Starbucks we already have that and we have a Plum Market. I hope the changes get made quickly and in the long run I see improvement, but for now it's no longer our local "pub". We'll start looking for the next neighborhood meeting spot. read more

I went to this restaurant on Thursday, Nov. 10, at about 2 pm. I ordered a special displayed on the blackboard next to the Register called "Cali" avocado toast which comes with tomato and cucumber and a large cafe latte. When I picked up the items and took them to the table, I found no avocado in the "Avocado Toast", the "cafe latte" contain no coffee, it was hot chocolate with milk foam. I went back to the register to check on the missing avocado in the "Avocado Toast", and asked them if they had run out of avocados. The person excused herself to go to the kitchen to check on it. She came back to tell me that indeed they had run out of avocados. I took them on the offer of basil sauce instead. I was so disgusted, I gave up on going back to question about the coffeeless "cafe latte". It is the responsibility of the administrator to see that they sell what they state they are selling. Poor management! It'll be a long time before I visit this place again. read more

I have eaten here twice so far and had a great experience each time. MoonWinks has a good variety of original soups, sandwiches, wraps, salads and similar items. They also have a full selection of specialty teas, Zingerman's coffee and a variety of ice creams. All the food seems to be very fresh and it presumably prepared on a daily basis. I personally recommend the soups - Fire-Roasted Asiago Tomato is my favorite. The quiches are wonderful. The atmosphere is very welcoming with comfortable chairs and reading material and a variety of seating arrangements. the secret must be out, however, as it is a little place and finding a table or parking at lunch time has been difficult both time for us. It is a ideal place for lunch if you want to avoid the typical restaurants as you can get in and out in under an hour. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and provided great service and conversation. For an out-of-the-way place (which I think is a good thing in this case) with a great food and ambiance, consider MoonWinks. read more

We were in Ann Arbor for the day and stumbled upon this cute little local cafe... it was 5:50 pm when we reached there we were looking forward to really relaxing with a cup of coffee but the cafe close time was 6 pm! what cafe closes that early on a Saturday!!! Anyway we thought we'd take it to go and went in. I ordered a latte and my husband got a coffee cake. The coffee was good. However my latte had no milk!!! And when I asked for some milk the lady at the counter looked at me like I was asking her to donate her blood or something!!! She gave me such a dirty look! but besides her all the other staff was wonderful. The Blueberry Coffee Cake my husband got was simply AMAZING!!!! that was the best blueberry cake we have had in ages! I would go back to the cafe just for a slice of that cake! As we sat in our car devouring that cake we realized we should have bought more lolz.. so we went back and requested one of the staff members for another piece and she obliged even if she had already closed her register. She opened it again just for us, that was very sweet. So besides that one grumpy old lady who doesn't know how to make a latte, I quiet liked the place.. would like to try their food next time! and of course I am buying the whole of their Blueberry cake the next time :) read more

great abundant salads with really fresh and high quality ingredients! I can vouch for the tons o' tuna and the thai salads, both are seriously yummy, and they use a nice romaine lettuce for the base. on the kid front, they have a couple of high chairs, a few kid friendly options - grilled cheese wrap or pbj wrap. mine found the cheese wrap quite scrumptious!!! oh yeah, don't forget to save room for some ice cream...it looks kinda average just sitting all alone in the freezer case, but trust me on this one - it's a culinary delight! read more

I was only vaguely aware of Moomwinks Cafe as a place on the far northeast side of Ann Arbor near Dixboro. I had driven by a dozen times without stopping. Today I met some clients there. Was I ever glad. What a nice surprise. I arrived a few minutes early for my appointment I was hungry and it was lunchtime so I tried the very veggiewrap. What a delight. There was enough hummus for flavor and the vegetables were crisp--as in fresh. When my clients arrived we had Zingerman's coffee (also a nice surprise as I am a big fan of Zingerman's beans). I was told today was a busy day but it didn't feel like it. Though there were others clearly working at their laptops or meeting people, there was plenty of room and it was quiet enough to talk with my clients. The wifi connects right away and without interruption I will visit Moonwinks again when I need a not too far out of the way place write and work or meet. I had a smoothie with a friend this morning at Moonwinks. The smoothies are $4.25 plus an upcharge of .50 for almond milk. There are several options for the smoothies: pineapple, mango, strawberry, blueberry & banana. Both my friend and I chose different options and were disappointed that banana was not available. Each of us remarked that our smoothies tasted very powdery. I could not taste the mango or pineapple in my smoothie but the strawberry was noticeable. I have never ordered a smoothie at this cafe but I have ordered smoothies at other cafes in the Ann Arbor area and this smoothie is definitely not up to standard. The atmosphere of the cafe is pleasant. Choose something other than a smoothie. read more

I rolled through Moonwinks while on Holiday. Not expecting anything at all, I was rolled over by kindness and warmth from the staff. I'm not sure which I liked more: the coffee or the food. Working not too far from here, it is somewhere I often stop for food at lunch or to grab a quick bite on my way home from work. The quiches here are outstanding! I've tried every one and its always a tough decision to figure out which one to eat. I've also had the sandwiches here and they are excellent, but I keep finding myself going back to the quiches. The deserts are also excellent. Every single food item I've had here is very tasty and very reasonably priced. The only big issue is parking is hard to find at lunch and that has caused us to not stop there before. read more

Cute little cafe with coffee, tea, sandwiches, and ice cream. Something for every time of day! Great outdoor seating with a covered porch, lovely landscaping, and a great view of the road for car watching and day dreaming. You'd never know you were in a sleepy village by the number of cars traveling on Plymouth Road. Had the matcha green tea frappé, which was good but a bit sweet but that could be since I haven't had sugar in a while. But the partner had the lavender and white chocolate latte, which he said was delicious and couldn't stop drinking. The indoor seating has a couple club chairs and many tables to sit and study at if you're so inclined. Only beef was the girl taking orders was very short with her answers and didn't smile. Was trying to ask if they had the matcha as a hot drink and wasn't being very helpful. Will stop here for lunch one day after a massage next door to try it again though. read more

All I want is to bike to a destination, drink an espresso and bike back. Initially Moonwinks made a good impression but now they have lost my business. Scenario: Me-"One espresso for here, please." Barista-"For here or to go?" Me-"For here." A few minutes later... Barista-"One double espresso for Agatha." Me-"Actually I just ordered a single shot." (Thinking I was ripping them off because I was only paying for one shot.) Barista-***irritated sneer*** "We only do double shots of espresso." So I get twice as much caffeine as I want, no sparkling water (reg water is available self-serve), no espresso spoon and very annoyed service. Later I came back looking for my missing hat and I have never seen anyone act so irritated about such a simple request. I didn't ask for help looking for it and I wasn't looking for sympathy. I visited Moonwinks cafe just today and was really excited at the fact that there is a small cafe right near my school so I could go there before class. I went with my friend and we didn't know what we wanted so we stood off to the side for probably a minute. As we were standing there, the lady taking our order behind the counter looked very annoyed with us taking so long. So I asked for a simple turkey and cheese sandwich and I know it wasn't on the menu but she looked at me like I was horrible for just asking that, also she wasn't too thrilled to be there in the first place. You could certainly see that with her attitude right off the bat. She was very rude. I understand bad days and such, but maybe you should just go home if your attitude is that bad, especially if you are being rude to the people who provide the business. The sandwich my friend and I got were okay, but I found a hair in mine. Now, I work in a restaurant myself so I understand hair can sometimes go in there so I'm not too disgusted by it. I then find another one. And ANOTHER one. I couldn't eat anymore after that, and the only good thing about this place was their cookie at the end. I will not be returning. read more

I drive past Moonwinks on a daily basis and am occasionally motivated to drop in for a morning coffee or to pick up lunch on my way into town for the day. However, I'm always disappointed. I just always want to like this place more than I do. I want to be able to support this down-home, locally owned coffee shop in premium location, but I just can't. The food is okay. Sometimes the employee making my wrap or sandwich can be a bit careless, but the ingredients are pretty quality and they have a decent selection. The wraps tend to be low on the meat, but you get what you get. The soups are good. Im a big fan of the butternut squash, but they serve it year round so I'm not sure they pay attention to the seasonality of their ingredients. The coffees, muffins, pastries, and ice creams are all pretty good (but I think those are all of the things NOT made in house...). My biggest issue with the food is that for some reason far beyond me, they don't sell bagels from 11am-2pm.... I always find myself stopping by around that time during a lunch break or on my way into work and a bagel sandwich is the perfect quick fix to hold me over until dinner or another evening snack. Why, Moonwinks? Just why? The hours are inconvenient, but it's not all bad. There's so much potential inside of those 4 walls, and they seem to be pretty popular with the locals, so hopefully sooner than later they'll start going the extra mile to step it up to the consistently higher quality experience I crave. To be honest, I just really wish the owners/employees cared a little more so they could make Moonwinks all that I really think it can be. read more

Breakfast bagel sandwiches here are pretty good - the egg is kind of weird though. Cut from a sheet, and kind of dry and not very tasty. Sometimes I get the sandwich with Lox and just leave off the egg. Excellent coffee choices from Zingerman's -- I wish they gave even one free same-visit refill though. read more

Let me just tell you....the menu is great, the coffee is good, and I am so in love with their wraps that I literally want to move to Dixboro just to be closer! Most food doesn't really impress me. It's either good or it's not. BUT...the Dix Village breakfast wrap was like one of he best things I have EVER eaten! I'm obsessed. Moonwinks serves great coffee, has a great atmosphere, outdoor seating, and the free wifi is really nice to have. But... I understand some of the staff are on the younger side and that people need to be trained, but the service is SLOW. It shouldn't take 10 minutes for a latte to come out. I still come for coffee, but I've learned to arrive 5-10 min before I need to so that I don't stress while I'm standing waiting. The training seems to be very "on the job", which is understandable, but it's frustrating to be waiting on a busy morning. Also, the food is highly overpriced. I have bought salads on two occasions when I was in a pinch, but they are extremely expensive for very little substance. I once asked if they could omit the meat and cheese from a salad, and put on some extra veggies that were offered from other salads. I got a bed of lettuce with carrots and tomatoes! Even the pine nuts that were offered with the original salad were MIA. Not only was the salad ridiculous, I was charged full price. I took OUT the most expensive items, got nothing instead, and still I was charged? I won't be ordering food there again, but I will still go for the coffee (but not when I'm in a rush). read more

I must've gone on an off day. The sandwich was fine, nothing remarkable but fine. What was remarkable was the rudeness of the woman behind the counter. I can only assume she's new, since other folks here on Yelp rave about the friendliness of the staff. It was not in evidence when I stopped in. At first I chalked up her extreme brusqueness to her being busy. She certainly gave that impression. But nope, not the case; I went back up to order dessert, and although there were no other customers at the counter, she was worse than before. My crime this time: I stood in the wrong window to order. A simple "I can help you down here" would've sufficed, but she went to lengths to let me know what a complete idiot I was by telling me I was in the wrong place, pointing at a sign that said "Order Here," and then proceeding to read the sign to me to make sure I got the message. Right. At that point I decided I would get dessert elsewhere. Life is too short for attitude. I went down the road to the wonderful Picnic Basket, where I was served by someone who actually seemed to enjoy her job. Two stars instead of one because the food wasn't awful and the decor is cute. --- Update on 3/25/17: I gave Moonwinks another chance a few times recently and am glad I did. The offensive counterperson has moved on, perhaps to become a prison warden, and the current staff is lovely. read more

I love the moonwink's cafe.. When the owner is there she is always gracious and greets with a smile. I happened to be over that side of town to visit the Humane Society to donate in honor of a friend so I was feeling a little sad but when I entered my spirits lifted. The atmosphere is very friendly and "real". I don't think prices are high at all and the value is so good. The pastries are to die for. A wonderful blueberry cake with brown sugar icing..so rich, so decadent but extremely well done. Truly homemade. Since it was not cut properly the owner just threw in some extra slices! I bought a number of things, muffins, carrot cake, pumpkin cheese cakes and brownies. I served all to my guests and they couldn't stop with the ahhhhs and oooos so good.
