There is so much that is amazing of this place - the people who work here you can tell like being there (looking at you, Melissa). The burgers are heaven, as are fish/chips and Ruben (all I've tried thus far). Pool table is an added dash of fun. We come here annually on our family trip to MI! (The mini plastic ducks planted all over the place are me)

We were on vacation and decided to try someplace new. This place did not disappoint. I described it to my kid as a restaurant in the middle of nowhere and that's exactly what it was. A good selection of draft beer and great food. My kids loved the boneless wings and buffalo chicken dip. For our meals we had the cod basket (excellent), a burger, chicken tenders and fajitas. We were all happy with our choices. You must get the onion rings...delicious!! We will definitely be back and next time we will bring our baseball stuff to play on the fields outside. This place is about 15 minutes from Harbor Springs and worth the drive.

Our vacation rental in Northern Michigan was in my words, "in the middle of nowhere". Imagine our surprise finding a good restaurant about eight miles past the middle of nowhere! Moose Jaw Junction is located as the sign says in "Downtown Larks Lake". I'll admit I had low expectations when I arrived but the only negative I could come up with is there was no cell phone coverage! Moose Jaw is both a popular bar and restaurant that from my impression serves locals and vacationers alike. There is a great menu with daily specials. Ribs were the special so I had to try them. They were meaty and flavorful with a really nice sauce. While I prefer the type that don't "fall off the bone" these did and were still quite good. Others in our party had whitefish, perch, and chicken fajitas. All enjoyed their meals. In fact, we went back two more times-once for lunch and another night for dinner. Service was outstanding all times we visited Moose Jaw. My feeling has been when you're located in a mall, crowded area or "in the middle of nowhere" you can relax your standards because by necessity, people will still beat a path to your door. Absolutely not the case here. If I ever return to this area, I'll definitely be back. https://s3-media1.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/Rl5-https://s3-media4.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/ABxRbfgQPfInZpQxUmlLHA/168s.jpgO1mjXWvr9ZiF3IOTGw/168s.jpg

Grilled chicken sandwich and onion rings

We'd heard the ads on the radio so drove down from the UP. The hour and half drive was well worth it. The prices seemed high until our order arrived. The portions were huge! The waitress convinced me to try the onion rings and I was not disappointed. I even snagged a piece of their homemade peanut butter pie to take home. It was incredible. We will definitely be back!

So the first thing on our list of needs, was buying a can of Off! Being that the cottage is in a fairly rural area, there aren't very many stores. But on our drive in, I noticed King's Fish Market. It was close, so I drove up. Turns out they don't sell bug spray, only smoked fish and a million other things, including Venison sausage. I purchased some smoked white fish and some venison cheddar sausage. OMG-Fantastic! They also have a little cafe and you can order fish and chips, chicken fingers etc as well. Big local beer selection too. After walking around checking everything out, I walked past a couple of women having lunch. I figured I'd ask how the food was. They then told me it was delicious, and that they have lunch there several times a week. Needless to say, my lovely wife and I will be back! And then before cashing out and leaving, the friendly owner sent me down the road to a gas station that sells Off! Bonus!

While we found this to be a charming local fish and specialty market, we were unfortunately underwhelmed by the food. Most of us ordered the 2-piece whitefish basket with fries. The fish itself seemed fresh, but the batter lacked seasoning and could have been much crispier. The fries were also fairly soggy. We also tried the whitefish chowder, which desperately needed salt. Adding a bit ourselves made a huge difference in flavor. We arrived well before the lunch rush and practically had the place to ourselves, so perhaps this was just an off day. Still, the fish baskets felt severely under-fried and lacking overall flavor, which was disappointing given the local reputation and specialty focus.

We then thought, let's wait...pizza didn't sound too appealing. Thankful we did. The food didn't take near 45 minutes. They had just served a group of 30ish motorcycle club members causing the wait. I can tell you the moo (locally sourced from the owner's brother), fin (whitefish from Lake Superior) and the fries (fresh cut!) are all great! The owner checked on us and shared his story of opening the restaurant. He built the furniture, did the stainless work, tables, benches...all of it! Not sure we'll be back through the area anytime soon, however, if we are, we'll definitely go back. I mean, we tried everything except the ice cream...so we have to? I heard it's a state law.

If you've ever been to a Five Guys burger place then you know what to expect as it's basically a UP vibe of a Five Guys knockoff that also offers fish dinners. The burger was really good, and i'd say they actually use a better bun then Five Guys but I did have a little problem with the prices. Now before anyone gets on me for mentioning price, I work in food service and don't have a problem paying but $20 dollars for a single cheese burger and fries (tip) is a little pricey in my humble opinion. On this occasion i took my lunch up the road to the rest stop and ate on beach overlooking Lake Michigan. I feel Clyde's overall is a better burger but I'm certainly looking forward to coming back to try the fish sandwich!!

I traveled to Scotland and London, and this fish and chips beat out what I had while there. The Cole slaw was enough to be a meal in itself. But the fish, were the star of my plate and the tartar sauce...I need this recipe or a bottle of the sauce.
