First off, I love hotel bars. They're so random. And quiet. And they have comfortable bar stools and almost always some little dish of bar snacks. And I really like Moray's lounge. The location is beautiful, especially in the evening. I like coming here to get a seat by one of the fire pits and having some drinks with friends. The reason for three stars is that the food and service are hit-and-miss, and this place isn't cheap. It's hard to swallow mediocre food when you're paying a pretty penny for it. While this is a beautiful location for a restaurant the service and food are not worth what you pay. We waited over 30 minutes for our lunch. Which might not have been a problem if if was prime lunch time but it wasn't. We ordered the tomato mozzarella flatbread, a burger and kids chicken tenders. When the flatbread arrived it was cold, it was very doughy, had spots that did not cook thoroughly and had what appeared to be ketchup, tomatoes and so little mozzarella I thought I was eating a ketchup sandwich. I asked for Parmesan cheese in hopes that would make it taste better and that took another 6 minutes to come. Viktoria our server was very sarcastic and was the worst server I have ever had. The absolute worst service I've ever experienced. I ordered an appetizer for my entree it took more than an hour. The food itself was mediocre. I really wish it was worth the wait. Sat on the patio. It was a high traffic area for people entering and exiting the beach. Patrons traipsing through with bicycles, surf boards, dogs. And yes dogs were seated on the patio while we were eating. Denyse is the worst bartender. I hope the company takes Yelp reviews into consideration and either puts her through hospitality training or gets rid of her. I'm a local and I feel so bad for the people who are trying to enjoy their vacation and have to deal with her. The only reason I don't visit this bar at times is because of her. She's snooty and can never be bothered. She knows nothing about hospitality and should find a job that consists of zero human interaction. Kristi and Sean on the other hand are the best. So accommodating and make you feel right at home. They have a wonderful happy hour DAILY from 3pm-6pm. $4.50 beer, $5.50 wine, $5 well cocktails and all appetizers are $8! They need to get rid of the chicken quesadilla on the happy hour menu--- not even a quesadilla. Filled with BBQ sauce and chicken is bulky and cold half the time. Great shrimp tacos. I'm giving it a one star! We sat next to the bar so we could watch the game. While we sat two other parties arrived after us and the servers attended to them; we continued to sit and no one even looked our way. Finally my husband decided to approach the bar. We ordered two mojitos and chips/guac, 20mins later we received our mojitos and 30mins later our chips/guac. Adrien waited on us for happy hour today. She was terrific came to us immediately as we started to sit down. Never in the past years did this happen. She offered suggestions on the HH menu in which we took her advice. Everything was delicious and maybe the best pizza around SD we have had. Yum We stopped coming here because the servers were so slow and with attitude and the food was just ok. So glad we returned It's an entire different deal now. To Mark W. I love the catamaran and I have been a "staycation" customer, bar and restaurant patron and have spent quite a bit of time and money at your property. But Dick S is right as is Kram M. You need to know that I was considering coming down there today for happy hour, but after reading those reviews it will not be the case. I understand you are running a business, but when you decide to forsake what made you a favorite for locals and begin gouging your loyal customers, everyone loses. Happy hour is a couple hours during the day, and if you are doing it right you make money, not lose it. Responding to Yelp reviews shows that you care, but your overall rating shows you have a lot of work to do. I would start by bringing back the happy hour. read more

Over all, a solid "meh". Food was ok, not astounding. I had the Tomato flatbread and my friend had the burger and we shared and both agreed the burger was better. The drinks were also just sort of ok, I had the Blood Orange French 75 and it was fine. The view was great. Honestly, the thing that overshadows ever other aspect is how SLOW the service was . We stopped in a few times during our stay at the Catamaran. The fish torta was terrible. It was like like a 1/8 inch disc of fish with no flavor. It may as well have been a lettuce and tomato sandwich. You seriously could not taste any fish. That was a bummer because over the years we would drive from San Marcos to the Catamaran just for that sandwich. The Crab fritters were tasty and I liked the sauce they were served with. We also shared the burger. It was moist and flavorful. The service was outstanding. Every server we encountered had a fabulous, upbeat, happy attitude and we very much enjoyed that! Oh! Went Moray's patio bar/restaurant. Great view of Mission Bay, comped parking if you're there for eats. Have been here a couple times over the last month with great results, service from Sabrina and Sierra were fabulous and really made the time fun. Good wine/beer selection, sushi is decent - sausage/fennel/arugula flatbread is terrific, ask for jalapeños on it . Have been told the burgers are good, maybe next time! San Diego's best happy hour died today! Mission Bay once had San Diego's crown jewel of happy hours at Moray's outside of the Catamaran Hotel. Their appetizer menu used to have exquisite calamari, tender ginger-sesame chicken wings, and a plate of two wonderful, nice sized fish tacos, all for $5 during happy hour! R.I.P., cool happy hour, I miss you! I paddled across the bay yesterday to find that management had decided to gut the happy hour and appetizer menu. All appetizers are now $10 at happy hour. No more wings or calamari, and the fish taco plate contained three of the smallest fish tacos I have ever seen! Helooo Guiness Book of World Records: World's Smallest Fish Tacos!! I would have been livid if I had paid the $14 normal price. the rest off the appy menu was pretty meh. Crab fritters, cheese plate, cold cuts, dip, and bacon wrapped dates. Really? Great beers on tap still, but only a buck off the normal price at HH. Great staff, but the overall feeling I got was that the goal was to fleece as much cash from the hotel guests as possible, and give the finger to locals. i don't know why people are commenting about terrible service. i started coming here several weeks ago. i've biked here, i've paddle boarded here.... and i love it here! it is right on mission bay on the view is stunning. i can only comment on Happy Hour as thats the only time i show up. (i know, i am a cheapie, but a smart cheapie!!) Their HAPPY HOUR is EVERYDAY 3-6PM. $5 dollar APPS and cheap drinks. This is a great place to stop for Happy Hour if you are on the Bay side. It is a great spot with a great view and if you come during happy hour you can get some good deals, considering you are in a Resort. They also have a check in special here on yelp for happy hour beers whenever you check in. Have a decent selection of beers to choose from and the $5 apps are good as well. Also try not to sit at the bar for some reason it seems to take longer to get server there then at a table with a friendly helpful waitress. read more

Wow. Worst service ever. When we finally flagged the server down my friend ordered a glass of wine and before I could order anything the waitress left. When she came back we had 2 glasses of the wine my friend had ordered. I asked the waitress what was up and she said she thought we'd ordered 2 glasses and I kindly informed her that she'd left without asking me what I'd want to drink. Surprised, she asked me what I'd want to drink (no apology) and I ordered. We then had to ask for a dinner menu (you would think the restaurant would be happy/accommodating for us to order a $60 tab each person with a 20% tip, if service had been good...). Very sad. Beautiful setting. Horrible service. We stayed at the catamaran for a week and had non stop bad service. There is a huge sense of apathy at this place. I have been a regular here for 4-5 years. Service and quality started off great, service over the last few years has gone down hill while prices rise. Last night was the worst I have ever had and I hate to say I wont be going back. It took well over 45 min to get my check after asking for it. I asked for a to-go box it took my server 3 trips to remember to bring it to me. Instead of my server getting my drinks I just walked to the bar because she was taking too long. When I asked to speak with the manager he appeared right away, When I spoke to him about the issues of service esp taking 45 min to get my check he basically said "yeah she is off tonight" Well that's all fine and dandy, however my 2 kids were ready to go home close to an hour ago. Normally I wouldn't mind slow service, esp on a Friday but when its not the first time and the manager just dismisses the problem its hard to want to go back. Yes the view is amazing, the kids can play on the grass while parents eat and relax but with happy hour going from $4 to $6.50 and service going down, I will not be going back.... =( read more

The food here is either subpar and bland, mediocre, or really good depending on what you order. The service is very hit or miss. Many of the people working here didn't care that we were in the restaurant or seemed annoyed that there were customers in the restaurant, while a few of them were amazing and went above and beyond for us. But mostly the service was not good. Overall it was fine for us for dinner-- just give yourself plenty of time to eat here as service can be very slow as well, and if you have plans after dinner you might end up being late. read more

We use to come here all the time for the french toast over the last couple of years. In the last year it's jumped in price and the quality has gone down dramatically. Today was the last straw as the chef accidentally used, (instead of the powdered sugar on top of the french toast), baking soda.
