I am a sucker for a French Dip. I don't like cheese, horse radish, aioli, or anything else on it. If we are truly eating prime rib all I want is au jus, bread, and onions to get in the way of the prime rib flavor. They also said they had the best French Dip in Sacramento. While I won't go around giving them the keys to the city I had to think when was the last time I had a better dipped sandwich in the 916? I still don't have an answer . There were four of us. Everyone was pleased with their cocktails. The other three in my party ordered salmon based dishes and were all very pleased. I definitely have a new pre game spot before Kings and A's games!!! Was in Sactown for a few days and was surprised by the amount of tasty food in this town. My colleague and I needed to hit a quick dinner before heading to an evening mixer. I ordered the Crisp and Copper which is their take on a mule. The drink was definitely crisp tasking with that pop of lime, ginger beer, and some aromatic bitters. For my entree, I just had to go with the Braised Beef Short Rib. Seriously, this short rib was so tender, but without that stringy mouthfeel that you sometimes get with improperly cooked short rib. It was sitting on top of creamy potatoes, surrounded by a rich, brown sauce. Yes, brown sauce to which some people would refer to as gravy. But this sauce was incredibly deep and flavorful. The dish was garnished with bits of fried Brussels sprouts that added a nice, textural contrast to the dish. The dish was 10/10 for me. My colleague had the filet mignon, also served with the brown sauce. He ordered medium rare and it looked amazing from across the table. The restaurant offered expeditious service. Heck yes, I will pay $21 for this salad. But obviously not every day, or even every month. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is also packed with the business moguls, lawyers and shakers of the community, and perhaps a government crony (me) from time to time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff are always very nice and attentive even with a full house on a Monday lunch! I love love love the Drunken Chicken salad. It has become nostalgic and comforting to me. The chicken is fine, but the star here is the huge croutons, springy yet still crispy, the goat cheese, and the fresh avocado. It is a beautiful combination. Also, I think an order of fries a la cart is fairly cheap, so just add that to your order and you'll have a good time. The fries are shoe string type for maximum crispy, crunchy texture. Craving g French Dip? Look no further than House Kitchen & Bar! We started off with their Deviled Eggs - with a perfectly pickled whopped flavor and topped with q pickled caper. This can come in a tray of 6 or 12 egg halves. Then I had to get the famous French Dip that had crispy onions inside the sandwich! The au jus was fab and I also got the creamy horseradish. 10/10 stars they serve a lot of the business folks in downtown Sac so I feel like that heavily influenced the good service,the food was amazing!! We love visiting House when we are downtown. The Prime French Dip is the best in town for sure, but I've been counting my calories lately so yesterday I tried the Blackened Salmon salad. Top notch eats near the Capitol. My favorite here is the tamale corn cakes appetizer. It's a unique dish that encapsulates the local Mexican culture. The cheese pull is beautiful, the soft inside texture of the corn cake with the outside being crisp and topped with mild chile verde salsa and sour cream. Perfect. Absolutely perfect. Enjoyed the shrimp po boy, lots of crunchy shrimp piled on soft bread. French fries were delicious as well. Service here is great. The food is fine here - the French dip is outrageously good! However, the service is lacking, and this isn't based on a one-off visit. This restaurant is within walking distance of my office so I've eaten at House many times over the years. Today was a new low. My husband and I arrived for lunch right when they opened, and it wasn't busy (yet). Nonetheless, once we were seated no one came by to bring water or take our drink orders for 15 minutes. Also, I noted that the tables around us didn't have servers coming by but I did notice a gaggle of servers congregated behind the wall near the kitchen. That was irritating because we had an hour to eat due to a time crunch. When we finally got acknowledged, the server took our orders, food and drinks. It took another 25 minutes for us to get a burger and French dip which seemed like a lot of time for a half-filled restaurant. In the meantime, my husband went through his soda and no one came by to refill. When our food was delivered, we asked for a refill and to cash out. Took another 10 minutes to get the check cashed out (I had given my credit card at the ask) and he never got his soda. Now, this may seem full of a bunch of picky things, and I'd agree. But the sum of the problems added up to a poor experience. I know restaurants are struggling with staff. I definitely give grace for that when I can see staff hustling. But that wasn't the case here. These issues are typical of what I've experienced in the past. I can't recommend. Honestly, I prefer Camden Spit & Larder next door. read more

I really liked the corn cakes. 4/5 for taste of food, but all of the dishes were outrageously priced. $21 for the Santa Fe salad that was 90% lettuce, $14 or so for the corn cakes and wares. 2/5 for cost. We also got a purple reign and a double bubble. The drinks were terrible and I think it's mostly because they use low end alcohol like casamigos for the purple reign. The double bubble was supposed to be vodka, apple cider, and champagne and it had barely any flavor. 0/5 for drinks. Was attending music festival and tried out a trick called PFD. They said they are owned by house kitchen and bar. "Best French dip in sac". It was pretty darn good. Soft bread. Thin sliced meat. Flavorful au jus. I like it cause it's light and not overloaded with salt or other seasoning. Just a good light sandwich. Definitely gotta try the restaurant soon read more

Our tour of the State Capitol ended with lunch at House Kitchen and bar. We tried the 2 appetizers- deviled Eggs and Rib Fries. For entree, we ordered the salmon salad, chicken sandwiches. I say all the dishes were ok, nothing really stood out as good. On the other hand, the service is good. I can tell with the short staff, the servers do the best they can. On the menu, the prime rib sandwich is supposed to be the best in Sacramento. Maybe next time we visit, this will be what I order. read more

This is a modern nice setting in the 555 Capitol Mall building. The menu has a good variety of simple foods. I had the salmon BLT and it was very good - I chose the side salad with champagne dressing - the salad was disappointing. The salad seemed as though the spring mix was wet when the dressing was added so the flavor of the dressing was diluted. The wine selection was unusual for me but the "Dau?" Chardonnay was just fine. Service was great but on a Wednesday non-game night the restaurant was nearly empty. I'd like to return to try some of the other menu items. Parking is not the easiest - it's best to wear your walking shoes and park in a nearby garage. read more

Love the food choices here. Started eating here a decade ago when they hosted Last Tuesdays, pairing food with wine, beer or other booze! It was great and I hope it comes back. I got the drunken chicken salad, The cornbread croutons had a wierd taste but other than that it very yummy. Spending a day taking in the highlights of Sacramento can work up a visitor's appetite. Especially if that visitor was me who was not looking forward to a two-hour drive back home. I was parked near the Capitol Mall, so this looked as good an option as any in the area. In truth, I was looking for more of a family-run place with homestyle food from their native country. This wouldn't be it. Far from it actually. This struck me as a suit-friendly, happy hour-focused restaurant where people meet to more likely broker deals than break bread. I was here before 5PM, so they weren't particularly focused on service as they were preparing for the dinner rush. I had to wave my arm to get some attention, so I knew they weren't breaking any land speed records. I tried two items on their by-the-numbers menu, the first being the $9 Deviled Eggs. I had great expectations for this spot as they are known for their prime ribs on Mondays. We made reservations here intentionally on Monday and came in for this. First, the hostess made zero eye contacts with the line that was waiting to be seated. She was seating everyone who walked in on first come first serve basis, there was only 1 line and no other methods for helping folks that had reservations. 5 parties ahead of us all had no reservations and were seated immediately. By the time it got to us we had reservations but were left to seat at the last available tiny table at the corner. This was not a good Segway to our experience here. Then we were greeted by our waiter who said let's get your drinks ordered and I will come back with some water for you guys. The drinks took a long time and the water never came. When she returned to take our orders for dinner she let us know that they have no prime ribs today and were Un empathetic about it too. We ended up ordering the Filet and Braised short ribs, deviled eggs for App. Along with two drinks. The food was mediocre as it lack seasoning, and the deviled eggs were over powered by mustard and salt. Drinks were ok. Also the limited parking, with one parking lot that had no elevators make it hard to want to return.
