The service was fair+, the reason for a lesser star was the overall cleanliness, the tables were sticky, the condiments were almost completely empty (ketchup). Our waitress was a young gal with a groovy type of personality with nose piercing. The view was great. I'd go back for lunch for sure. The prices were fair. Such a lovely sunset meal, the upper deck has a fantastic view we were just counting otters for our whole meal. Food was not appetizing or filling at all. The "3 Tacos" were 85% damp coleslaw, 15% protein, and didn't come with a side. The burgers were mostly bread with an overcooked disc of meat. The Bay Basket was pretty light on the main mahi as well. This place also served with dirty dishes. I was given water with a flake of mystery crud in it--when I asked for another water politely, they gave me a small kids cup as a replacement. It's no better than the basic Trader Joe's air fried food you'd make at home but more expensive and takes way longer to have. It took forever to get our order taken let alone receive the lackluster "meal" even though it wasn't busy. Servings were small and dull. There is a reason this place is kind of hidden. Keep it that way--for your appetite's and wallet's sake! read more

Went here on a Sunday afternoon and it was quite busy. Seating is limited. Service was great though. The female server on the counter was nice. We ordered baja shrimp tacos, fish shrimp and chips, cali fries, and chowder. The tacos was good and shrimp tasted good however there's too many cabbage that it caused less flavor to the shrimp. The clam chowder tasted similar to Pismo's Splash cafe thats all I can comment on that. The fish and chips I have not tasted much. I loved the Cali fries, the cheese and toppings were balanced. Modern American comfort food from a friendly and well-functioning team. The food here all tasted like scratch cooking, albeit a teensy greasy. But they used fresh oil, absolutely no smell to it, quite light eating still. I cried during a hard conversation and the waitresses were so sweet, clearly gave a dang, and checked in on me. Great view from the back deck, but unfortunately the service fell far short of expectations. We dined as a party of seven and while the food itself was enjoyable, the service experience was poor. One of our party members ordered a chowder bread bowl, which was mistakenly served with bacon--despite her dietary restriction and no mention as an ingredient but instead as an upgrade option. The server acknowledged the error and assured us a replacement was being made. However, 25 minutes passed with no updates, while the rest of our group had already finished their meals. After trying to flag someone down, another server briefly told us it would be ready soon but walked away mid-conversation, ignoring our request to have it packaged to-go. An additional 10 minutes went by before our original server returned, apologizing and saying he had only just asked the kitchen to remake it. The corrected order was finally brought out--still not in a to-go box--and had to be returned once again to be packed up. Throughout the entire meal, no one checked in on our table or offered drink refills until the checks were brought. The lack of communication among staff and absence of accountability was disappointing. While the food and location were enjoyable, the overall service experience makes it unlikely we will return. read more

On a road trip, from Thousand Oaks. Stopped in beautiful Morro Bay for a late lunch. Decided on the Morro Grill, it was upstairs with a nice view. I have a dairy allergy so I informed the waiter and he said he could accommodate with the power bowl, so I orded the power bowl with pulled pork protien. Long story short, the pulled pork was dry and crunchy, but I was really hungry, so I just kinda ate around it. It was so bad I could only get 1/2 down. I asked the waiter is the pulled pork usually this dry, and he said no, its usually not, but he made no attempt to compensate for this situation. I don't like to complain so I didn't ask for a manager. I paid the full price and left. About an hour later, I got sick. Obviously there was cross contamination in my order, so they cannot accommodate a dairy allergy. Needless to say, this was awful experience and DO Not recommend the Morro Grill. read more

So the next day we went back and had the Baja tacos and the fish and chips. I can't say enough this place puts out some quality food . Very disappointed! The meat was extremely dry and had almost no flavor at all. It honestly felt like there was little care put into preparing the dishes. Let's start with the staff. Such a friendly bunch even their 7 year old nephew that was visiting. Ok now the food, I ordered the double bacon burger. I did make substitutions, I took off the normal condiments and replaced with a garlic aioli and fried onion strings. Oh my gosh so delicious. My husband ordered the mushroom Swiss burger. He also claimed it was delicious. We both had their french fries. The fries were crisp and hot. If you've eaten at the Mainstreet Grill in Cambria the Morro Grill in Morro Bay blows Mainstreet out of the water. The restaurant is small, a bar with a few tables inside and a deck with tables outside overlooking the bay. I definitely recommend trying this place. After a long drive to Morro Bay, we knew we wanted a yummy dinner from a local favorite and found Morro Grill based on some other Yelp reviews. Being that the restaurant is small, they didn't take reservations and the wait was about an hour long. We hung out at the hotel in hopes of cutting the wait time since we didn't want to stand outside at night and that did work. The skies were dark so we didn't get to enjoy any views but I imagine it's beautiful during the day. There was a large celebration happening out on the patio, that overlooks the harbor so available tables were down to the 6 that are inside. There was a bar seating was full as well and the place was alive with energy. Our wait was only about 20 minutes but it took over 45 minutes to get our food, which pushed our dinner into the 8pm hour, and we normally don't do that. I believe it was the large party on the patio that impacted how fast we got our meal. But I can tell you it was worth the wait. We had the All-American Cheeseburger and the Smoked Turkey Club. Although I was not able to snap a photo of the burger before it was devoured, it was a perfectly cooked patty with ample toppings and a super soft bun. It melted in your mouth and came out nice and hot! A must try for any burger lover in your family. The Smoked Turkey Club was fantastic! I shared mine because it was so large (so please note that when looking at the photos). I took photos of my half. As you will see the smoked pulled turkey was right from the bird and was not processed turkey. There was so much turkey piled high that the pieces that fell out, I ate with my fingers as it was too good to leave on the plate. We opted to switch the mayo to a chipotle mayo and it provided a nice heat and kick but wasn't overpowering the smokey flavor of the turkey, the crunch of the bacon or the flavor of the avocado. The French roll was not dry or hard at all and provided a nice way to hold all the ingredients in so you could bite this yummy sandwich. There was no way I could have eaten the whole thing but had I been at home, I would have loved to have the other half for my work lunch the next day. We will definitely go back as I keep thinking about that sandwich and want to enjoy it during the day with a beautiful view of Morro Bay. Morro Grill is definitely on our list whenever we come visit. read more

Horrible customer service. We walked into the restaurant and we were seated at the bar. We were ready to order our food after 5-10 mins but no one came to check on us or give us water in that time. We reached out to one of the staff and asked if we should order food at the register or if someone would help us at the bar. The server said he would assist us but then he never did... I was excited about the food and it smelled good but they seem understaffed and too over packed to tend to their customers. First things first. They do not have a full bar. They serve beer and wine. There are several other options down the road. They do not have a bathroom. There is a public bathroom downstairs. You can take the elevator or use the stairs. The inside is small and quite loud. We sat outside for some peace and quiet. Birds fly overhead and walk by your food. It is quite windy as well. I will say the view of the water and Morro Rock is great. We saw a few otters as well. We went inside to check in. A few minutes went by, we were asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside. When we said outside the girl handed us menus and told us to seat ourselves. 5 minutes later our server came out to take our order. That's when she broke the news that they do not have liquor. I love love love Morro Grill! The best part about this eatery is a gal who "runs it like she owns it", named Sterling! She is one in a billion, the most consistent customer service ever, such a pleasant attitude, friendly, courteous and always gives us the best service possible. She makes us feel like family every time we come in, which is pretty darn often. Morro Grill has the best tacos, Cali fries, and brussel sprouts around! Their made in house sauces are legit, make sure to try the garlic aioli, the sweet and savory brussel sprouts and of course you have to try the Cali fries . If you get the tacos ask for extra Baja sauce on the side!! I always get the shrimp tacos but you can also choose grilled or breaded mahi mahi.
