After a long drive to Morro Bay, we knew we wanted a yummy dinner from a local favorite and found Morro Grill based on some other Yelp reviews. Being that the restaurant is small, they didn't take reservations and the wait was about an hour long. We hung out at the hotel in hopes of cutting the wait time since we didn't want to stand outside at night and that did work. The skies were dark so we didn't get to enjoy any views but I imagine it's beautiful during the day. There was a large celebration happening out on the patio, that overlooks the harbor so available tables were down to the 6 that are inside. There was a bar seating was full as well and the place was alive with energy. Our wait was only about 20 minutes but it took over 45 minutes to get our food, which pushed our dinner into the 8pm hour, and we normally don't do that. I believe it was the large party on the patio that impacted how fast we got our meal. But I can tell you it was worth the wait. We had the All-American Cheeseburger and the Smoked Turkey Club. Although I was not able to snap a photo of the burger before it was devoured, it was a perfectly cooked patty with ample toppings and a super soft bun. It melted in your mouth and came out nice and hot! A must try for any burger lover in your family. The Smoked Turkey Club was fantastic! I shared mine because it was so large (so please note that when looking at the photos). I took photos of my half. As you will see the smoked pulled turkey was right from the bird and was not processed turkey. There was so much turkey piled high that the pieces that fell out, I ate with my fingers as it was too good to leave on the plate. We opted to switch the mayo to a chipotle mayo and it provided a nice heat and kick but wasn't overpowering the smokey flavor of the turkey, the crunch of the bacon or the flavor of the avocado. The French roll was not dry or hard at all and provided a nice way to hold all the ingredients in so you could bite this yummy sandwich. There was no way I could have eaten the whole thing but had I been at home, I would have loved to have the other half for my work lunch the next day. We will definitely go back as I keep thinking about that sandwich and want to enjoy it during the day with a beautiful view of Morro Bay. Morro Grill is definitely on our list whenever we come visit. read more

Really enjoyed the Beer Battered Fish and Chips they were so mouthwatering with the cocktail sauce. Also the Bbq chicken wings were really tasteful. We also tried the grill fish tacos those were awesome! Let's start with the staff. Such a friendly bunch even their 7 year old nephew that was visiting. Ok now the food, I ordered the double bacon burger. I did make substitutions, I took off the normal condiments and replaced with a garlic aioli and fried onion strings. Oh my gosh so delicious. My husband ordered the mushroom Swiss burger. He also claimed it was delicious. We both had their french fries. The fries were crisp and hot. If you've eaten at the Mainstreet Grill in Cambria the Morro Grill in Morro Bay blows Mainstreet out of the water. The restaurant is small, a bar with a few tables inside and a deck with tables outside overlooking the bay. I definitely recommend trying this place. My whole family enjoyed our dining experience at Morro Grill recently! My dog got special treatment and loved his pup patty(burger no salt). Our server, Paloma was so attentive to our 4 yr old son. He was served first thing, and not once was he overlooked or ignored. He requested to sit indoors midway through our meal, as it got cold outside on the deck and the move was done seamlessly. The server actually caught my son when he managed to tip his chair back and she did it swiftly, without making a scene and told him she's done that before, so that he wasn't embarrassed or uncomfortable. Amazing! We took our servers suggestions and loved our mushroom Swiss burger and cali fries and chicken sandwich. We had way too much food! We will definitely be visiting again. read more

Food was not appetizing or filling at all. The "3 Tacos" were 85% damp coleslaw, 15% protein, and didn't come with a side. The burgers were mostly bread with an overcooked disc of meat. The Bay Basket was pretty light on the main mahi as well. This place also served with dirty dishes. I was given water with a flake of mystery crud in it--when I asked for another water politely, they gave me a small kids cup as a replacement. It's no better than the basic Trader Joe's air fried food you'd make at home but more expensive and takes way longer to have. It took forever to get our order taken let alone receive the lackluster "meal" even though it wasn't busy. Servings were small and dull. There is a reason this place is kind of hidden. I was visiting Paso Robles with my family of 7 for the weekend so on the way we stopped at Morro Grill for some lunch. I ordered the bay basket with beer battered shrimp and a side of onion rings. The onion rings came out first and they were a little overcooked. I hit one on the table and it sounded like a rock. A few minutes later the waiter comes back and puts beer battered fish in front of me and thought that is what I ordered, I wouldn't have known because she didn't repeat the order at the end of gathering all the orders. I pointed out that I ordered the shrimp so she took it back and said that my shrimp will be out shortly. 20 minutes later and my family is done eating and she finally comes back to check on us and she asked if they had brought my food out and I said no. She then says that she saw them walking out with my food so we assumed they took it to a different table. A few minutes later she comes back with the correct order. The shrimp batter was VERY undercooked. When I peeled the breading off it was still wet. The shrimp/batter had no flavor at all. ON TOP OF THE TERRIBLE MEAL they did not offer to comp it once, they charged us for the full meal that was wrong and passed around multiple tables. At the bottom of the menu it says for parties of 8 or more there will be an automatic tip of 18% as I stated there was 7 of us not 8. We were forced to tip 18% when it was not deserved. It was overall a terrible experience and I would not recommend this to anyone. read more

Bf ordered a sandwich, which he says the bbq sauce tasted like tomato sauce ?? I ordered the Baja fish tacos and I wish either the tortilla or the fish was a bit more crunchy. I also asked a different waiter for an extra lime and never received it ( same for my bf who ordered ranch/bbq). It wasn't busy , so I figured she must have forgotten. The young man at the counter was kind and direct my daughter and I to the last table inside (outside was too cold), but when we got to the table another group decided to cut in and took the table and left us standing...rude! This employee came outside just as we were about to leave and offered us space at the bar, which my daughter hates, but we had 2 options 1) sit at the bar and feed our hungry bellies or 2) leave and look for somewhere else to eat. We chose option 1. The service was fairly slow, but food came out quickly and server was again apologetic for the table issue. While trying to enjoy our food the group who took our table moved to the table right next to us at the bar...wtf? This was not the restaurant's fault, but it left us with a bad experience. We didn't enjoy the chowder, but the garlic fries and grilled shrimp tacos were great. Too bad we missed happy hour with their coconut shrimp tacos...would love to try those! First things first. They do not have a full bar. They serve beer and wine. There are several other options down the road. They do not have a bathroom. There is a public bathroom downstairs. You can take the elevator or use the stairs. The inside is small and quite loud. We sat outside for some peace and quiet. Birds fly overhead and walk by your food. It is quite windy as well. I will say the view of the water and Morro Rock is great. We saw a few otters as well. We went inside to check in. A few minutes went by, we were asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside. When we said outside the girl handed us menus and told us to seat ourselves. 5 minutes later our server came out to take our order. That's when she broke the news that they do not have liquor. Visited on Sat. 4/20/2024 Morro Grill does it again, today was a lovely day and we got to sit outside and enjoy the sun and chill breeze. The staff was ever so kind and very attentive - they were checking in on us and made sure we were comfortable as I had visited with my partner and friends + a baby. OKAY THE FOOD: Did I come back for the caesar trip tip salad? yes, absolutely. Did I finish the salad? NOPE. I had to take the rest of my salad home since we ordered the pepperjack crisps for appetizers (which were a solid 7.5/10 imo but my friend LOVES it). My boyfriend got his usual tri tip sandwich with sweet potato fries- which was DELICIOUS as always- and VERY filling. Probably gonna be back again soon LOL. read more

On a road trip, from Thousand Oaks. Stopped in beautiful Morro Bay for a late lunch. Decided on the Morro Grill, it was upstairs with a nice view. I have a dairy allergy so I informed the waiter and he said he could accommodate with the power bowl, so I orded the power bowl with pulled pork protien. Long story short, the pulled pork was dry and crunchy, but I was really hungry, so I just kinda ate around it. It was so bad I could only get 1/2 down. I asked the waiter is the pulled pork usually this dry, and he said no, its usually not, but he made no attempt to compensate for this situation. I don't like to complain so I didn't ask for a manager. I paid the full price and left. About an hour later, I got sick. Obviously there was cross contamination in my order, so they cannot accommodate a dairy allergy. Needless to say, this was awful experience and DO Not recommend the Morro Grill. read more

Horrible customer service. We walked into the restaurant and we were seated at the bar. We were ready to order our food after 5-10 mins but no one came to check on us or give us water in that time. We reached out to one of the staff and asked if we should order food at the register or if someone would help us at the bar. The server said he would assist us but then he never did... I was excited about the food and it smelled good but they seem understaffed and too over packed to tend to their customers. The burgers are delicious, the fish tacos are yummy, and the fries don't look like they'd be good but they're some of the best fries I've ever had. Been back a few time and decided to come support for sure now that we are in the off season. Glad to see them just after their 9 month anniversary still doing well. The staff is always friendly and the owner (I believe) was rocking a Steelers overall which was cool and great to see at a sports bar. Can't beat the friendly service and the great location. The food is consistently good here. We try to try at least one new thing each time. This last time I ordered the Grilled Jalapeno Burger with a side salad. We got the mini corn dogs for our daughter and my wife got the Southern Bowl with pulled pork. She was pretty stoked on the pulled pork on power bowl, since it isn't something you see often as an option. The pork was tender, shredded well, and sauced just right, it blended in so well with the power bowl flavors with beans, corn and other veggies. The mini corn dogs are perfect snack size for kids, and the "parent tax". I don't often get a side salad with a burger or sandwich, but I am glad I did. The cherry tomatoes and radishes were such a pleasant surprise, lots of flavor and texture all while being healthy, a smart way to balance out a burger. The Grilled Jalapeno Burger itself was super good. Just a perfect balance with the cream cheese and the jalapenos, spicy enough to make you want to keep eating it and not regret it. Super fresh burger and bun, the chipotle mayo made it a bit messy, but no complaints here. Morro Grill will continue to be one of our go to spots in town. read more
