Morton's has really lost a step in being a reliable, high-end steak place. The two components of a restaurant are the quality of food/drink and service. Morton's in Northbrook has slipped on both measures. Our waiter was well-meaning and friendly, but not particularly competent. A G&T served with no lime....?...and then have the waiter kind of question my request for the traditional garnish...not good. He then brought the wrong wine ordered for dinner; not really paying attention. The food...well, just not up to previous standards. The Ceasar salad was swimming in dressing...more is not better. I was disappointed and will look for another source of red meat dining in the future. I will add that when dining out you pay a multiple of retail for wines, 3 times is common. I think Morton's multiplier has gotten way out of line. read more

I was close to giving a four star rating. The online ordering is simple, the food is appetizing and cooked to one's liking and ready on time, but the value just isn't there. I think for 42 bucks of 6 Oz filet Mignon steak they could at least include a complimentary side or two. I thought the burger was gourmet and textured well, however the fries were unseasoned and stringy. I will say that the hot chocolate dessert with vanilla bean ice cream was a pleasant treat to cap off the meal. This really is the kind of place to celebrate a special occasion or a date night. Went for Christmas Eve dinner like we've been doing for years.....BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! I ordered the lobster stuffed mushrooms as a starter. The server brought out 1 mushroom on a plate with a lemon wedge. I said, "where are the other 3 mushrooms?" (4 in an order). He said the kitchen must have gotten confused when he put in for 1 order. 10 min later the other 3 came out. They were good, not great. For my entrée I had the peppered strip steak; again it was good but not spectacular. Where were my matchstick fries that I had ordered??? They came out as I was finishing my steak (I had to ask for them). They would have been much better without that truffle drizzle. As many other Yelpers, I wish that we had an option for half a star. Since we don't and I can't give it a 3.5, I'd have to downgrade to a three star. I really wanted to give a 5 star review, however, I just can't. When you go to a sushi restaurant, you want high class sushi. Same goes for a steakhouse... The entire day I was craving that fillet Mignon that I was going to have and it ended up being a huge disappointment. I have to say though, our server was GREAT! As well as all the other food items we ate.. We came here for restaurant week (so MAYBE that's why our steak wasn't as good as it should have been) but in any case, I won't be coming back to check if I am right or wrong. The huge round loaf of bread they placed in front of us was amazing - seemed like it came right out of the oven. It had a perfect amount of onion/garlic taste to it. I had a Cesar salad for the first course, though it's hard to mess that one up, I do have to say it was one of the best Cesar salads I ever had. For the entrees, both my boyfriend and I ordered the fillet Mignon's. He had medium rare and I had medium. And both of us were disappointed. I've had better steaks for cheaper prices in many other places. The steak wasn't juicy enough, it wasn't soft enough, and it didn't have enough flavor. Oh well.. I do have to say that I ordered the mac n cheese for the side (which was not on the menu yet) and it was AMAZING. I am not a fan of it, but I have always wanted to try it at a trendier restaurant and it was to die for. It had a lot of extra cheese and a bit burned around edges, which gave it the perfect touch. My first visit to Morton's I'd like to think was a good one! I enjoyed the atmosphere and of course the company I was with. The restaurant had a classy-old-fashioned vibe, with old black and white photograph's hanging all over the walls. When you walked in, there was a bar and some seating immediately to the left, behind the host stand. However, we were seated in the dinning area which was straight back. Morton's is well known for their steak... and I could not resist, and having a few seafood items on the menu... I knew exactly what I wanted! I ordered the Lobster and fillet Mignon special! I asked for my fillet to be cooked medium and it came out perfect. I washed it down with a couple glasses of white wine. So good! My boyfriend and his dad ordered what appeared to be a double porterhouse on the rare side. It was huge and meaty and they both appeared to love it. The prices were on the high end, but the service and quality food you get is superior. I really enjoyed my evening out here, and would love to visit again another time. read more

OK, the chocolate soufflé is wonderful and a nice touch but the steaks are NOT what they should be for the price and the rest of the menu is adequate but not deserving of the premium pricing. Haven't had such a perfect meal in years. We will be back soon. To start with, the Margarita and the lobster tail were absolutely perfect! Not to mention that delicious onion bread and side of mashed potatoes! As an aficionado of Margaritas and lobster tails, I know perfect. The lobster tail was done perfectly (browned on the top, but not over done). It was so sweet and tender that it must have been a Western Australian lobster. Pricey, but so worth it! I took one of my best friends her for her birthday celebration. We had 6pm reservations on a Friday night. We were warmly greeted At the host station. The bar was packed but the main dining room was empty save for one table. We were giving the option to seat at a table or booth. We chose a booth since we had the run of the place. The host was great walked us over and pulled the table all the way out for us so we could sit down easily and then pushed the table back in. Our server was prompt and delivered the dinner and cocktail menu right away. We both chose to try the 40th anniversary pre-fix menu. It was a great deal and great options. I tried the Caesar Salad, chicken Bianco, mashed potatoes and topped my dining experience off with a slice of key lime pie. My friend had mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto, braised short ribs over flat noodles and topped with a dollop of sour cream , steamed broccoli with a side of hollandaise sauce to top the broccoli and she also topped off her dinner with key lime pie as well. Everything was prepared expertly and tasted great. My chicken was tender and not over seasoned. I took a bit of the braised ribs and they were excellent. So tender and not greasy. The mashed potatoes were so fluffy and the side was large enough for me to share with my friend. The key lime pie was decadent. The portions were very generous . I still had enough left over mashed potatoes to take home along with some of my entree. Everything came to the table in a timely fashion and was the correct temperature. Our server made sure we were happy and we had several other staff members come over and make sure our meal was prepared to our liking and we were enjoying our meal. Everyone was very attentive. Our server asked if we were celebrating any special occasions and I said my friends birthday. The host came over and took a photo, printed it out and put it in a paper frame for us to take home. This was our second visit to a Morton's, the first being the location in Schaumburg. The first visit, we were suitably impressed, but tonight was more of a disappointment. I'll be honest, we generally visit Wildfire for a nice steak dinner, but we had a $100 gift certificate for Morton's. Firstly, the wine menu was bigger than the actual food menu. The filet was not as well done, (a little too tough) and we realized that there really are no such thing as individual sides, just super sized "shareable" sides that are a la carte. For the cost of what you have to assume is high end steak, it was rather disappointing. The au gratin potatoes were cut very large, and had a lot of onion in them as well. Another surprising aspect, was it was my husband's birthday, which I had noted when I made the reservation. They brought him a chocolate lava cake, which you would think would have been complimentary. We later saw the $12 cost of the dessert on the bill. All in all, I have to say, save your $ and go to Wildfire. read more

If you're reading this you may have heard the buzz, "Morton's is better than Ruth Chris." But, I would disagree. Not because I am sick in the head, but only because I have been to the Northbrook location. After all the hype, I was a little disappointed because I was expecting the best steak of my life. When I took my first bite, there was no question that Ruth Chris steak was better. HOWEVER, I have heard that the Original Morton's is happening. They have the original chef working there too, so that must be the secret. That guy must know something that he does not tell anyone else... The steak at the Northbrook location was still great, but I just thought I have had better. And for that price, I gotta give this place 4 stars. read more

Went there last night and yes, as good as it gets! Service was great (except at the bar, it's almost as if you are invisible) and the food was amazing. Had the 12 oz Filet Mignon cooked to perfection and about as good as I've had (it came with a steak knife but I probably could have used a butter knife it was that tender). I don't normally put anything on a good steak but the blue cheese butter was exceptional. Horseradish mashed and creamed spinach are as good as everyone says. Expensive? Hell yes but you sort of expect that at Morton's. read more

So far I've been to Gibson's, RPM, Chicago Cut, Ditka's, Ruth's Chris, and Morton's is my favorite steakhouse thus far. I've only been to the Northbrook location, but it's always been a great experience. When the bf brought me here a couple years ago for my birthday, they sat us in a great corner booth like requested, gave us special birthday menus, took our picture for a take-home memento, and brought us a free dessert of my choosing. The ambiance in the restaurant is pretty great and I'm a fan of the decor. We returned this past NYE with a group of 8 and had great service again. Their rack of lamb is delicious and worth the price, especially since you're almost guaranteed to bring some home (unless you're sharing). The bf and I usually try to take each other to a new place for special occasions, but I asked him to take me here again for my birthday this year. Sadly, precautions for Covid-19 has made us postpone said birthday visit, but I will be back when restaurants in IL re-open. read more

Ever since they got bought by Landry's the food and service have steadily gone downhill. Steaks are low quality and are prepared inconsistently. Kitchen staff seem to be line cooks that just follow the system and have no ability to adapt. This results in below average quality across the board. Way overpriced. Date: April 2009 Occasion: Girlfriend anniversary Food ordered: Chicago style Bone-in ribeye (medium-rare), Lamb chops (medium), oyster as appetizer, grilled asparagus as side, raspberry souffle as dessert. Pros: 1) No reservation but we were still seated promptly at a Saturday night. 2) Great service. Very knowledgeable servant and food comes out at decent pace. 3) Fresh oyster, the asparagus was cooked perfectly, and the lamb chops are just mouth watering. Just enough fat to balance yet not to greasy, its by far the best lamb chops I have ever had. Cons: 1) The steak..mleh.. its OK but definitely did not blow my mind away, whats so special about morton's steak? I don't understand. 2) The souffle is bland, and the texture is weird. 3) very, very expensive (~$170 for both of us) Bottom line: Great service, above ave. food (some GREAT, some decent) but very expensive. read more

I've only been here twice and both times have left with high marks for the service and not so high for the flavor and value so I'm averaging my rating to 3 stars. Yes I know it's a high end steak house and charging $65 for a Porterhouse steak is the norm but I can get a better tasting and tender porterhouse at Wildfire for around thirty bucks less. My last visit here I got the NY strip for $60. The first half of the steak was great but as I got toward the mid-point and end it got a little chewy. That has never happened at Ruth Chris or Wildfire and should never happen at a prime steakhouse. Not impressed again. The shrimp dish that one of my dining partners ordered did not have the vein removed from two of 'em. That's just plain inexcusable. The broccoli side that I had was average at best. For $13 I was told it was big enough to share...not! Oh and did mention how loud it was? Huh? you didn't hear me? What? read more

Let me start by saying the food was not bad. But it wasn't great either. We had the Chilean Sea Bass -- delicious but a small portion -- and the 12 oz fillet. Fillet was medium-rare, but came out medium-well, so it was dry and just not delicious or juicy. I have been to Morton's and other corporate steakhouses before, so I was not too disappointed by this, it's pretty much what to expect. It's just OK. For the price, it really should be twice or three times as delicious. I was most disappointed in the server, who seemed like he didn't want to be there, and did nothing to make our night (last night out before the baby!) special. My pregnant wife asked if there was anything "fun a pregnant lady could have" from the bar, like a mocktail, or really anything just to have some sense of celebration. "No, not really... we have soft drinks?" replied the waiter. Wow. Didn't even go ask the bartender. And I have to hope the bartender would have been more creative. We had gone out several places in the last months that were more than happy to craft something 'special'. Bottom line, I would never really pay my own money to go here again. read more

It's an okay steakhouse, but there are some major problems I have with this place. One, whenever I get steak it doesn't have any flavor and it is always burnt. Not charred, but burnt. Also, the last time I went there I got lobster tail and it was ice cold. But I do like the crab cakes and a side I got last time were bacon and blue cheese mashed potatoes which were delicious. I don't like the salad at all and the service is never good. There are better steakhouses that I know of and I will never be back. read more

I have been a Mortons customer for as long as I can remember. I made a point of going to the local Motons when ever I was out of town and there was a Mortons there. Always reliable great food. So I find myself conflicted, last night went here for dinner and drinks, of coarse the food was as good as I expected. However, the level of customer service has slipped a bit. I will for sure go back, buy maybe not as soon as I would have, had the service been as good as the food. Unfortunately it was just ok. The service was great and our server was very knowledgeable. The decor was great and it was nice and quiet in there. Great place to have a conversation. In fact, all the staff was very attentive. The food unfortunately just seemed a little off. We had potatoes Lyonnaise and they were really over cooked chopped potatoes. Very crunchy, like something you might get at a breakfast place on the side of eggs. The lobster bisque had some kind of heavy pepper in it. We were told it was Tabasco. In our opinion, lobster bisque shouldn't be spicy. It really had a punch, like Mexican food. We like Mexican food, but we don't expect to find that kind of heat in our Steakhouse lobster bisque. We ordered two filets. One was cooked properly but one was really overdone. We sent it back and they sent out a second one which was cooked properly. That stated, they did miss on the first try. All in all, even though we thought it was a very nice place and the staff was awesome, we would probably head to a different Steakhouse the next time we have a craving for steak. read more

I've been here too many times to count and finally am just getting around to reviewing here! As you could tell by my opening statement, I've been here a lot... And for obvious reasons! This is one of those places that simply just has it down! From the food, to the service, and all in between, Morton's is a classic. The seafood has always been top notch, as well as the steaks! Some of the most flavorful cuts of beef outside of the city, and it's always consistent. The reason I don't give this a full 5 stars stems from the fact that it charges city prices despite being 20 miles out of the city. Fortunately not every item is overpriced, in the specific case of their happy hour special. They offer a limited menu between 5-7 in the bar only but at a fraction of the price regularly. For the happy hour special prices I would give it a 5 star with out a doubt in my mind, but unfortunately it's not always happy hour and the other remaining hours open tend charge slightly to high for comparable steaks in the area. But like I said, they happy hour is a must! I highly recommend the Crab Blt and Mini Filet sliders, and for under $20 how can you beat that! Happy hour WILL make you and your wallet happy! read more

This is some high class dining! We sat in the bar and ordered off of the bar menu and it was an amazing deal for excellent food! The smoked salmon pizza and crab cake sliders are to die for! It's hard to believe that they offer such gourmet food for such a good price (most of the appetizers are 5 to 6 dollars). We also had about three different people come to our table and make sure we were enjoying our meal and to see if we needed anything else! Excellent customer service! And yes, as Luke S. warned, beware of the cougars sipping on wine and lurking in the corners! Or, if cougars are your bag, baby, I suggest you come here because they are quite plentiful! read more

cant say i was overly impressed with this place. i knew we would have good food but the service left something to be desired. We made reservations through open table a few weeks before going. Didnt seem like anyone could find our reservation when we arrived with our party of 6. We were shown to our seats after a few minutes. It took at least 15 minutes to get our drinks. The restaurant was about half full and the bar was hopping but that's a long time to wait for a few standard drinks. Comedy of errors ensued. We were there for my 50th birthday party. Since we wanted to feel free to order what we wanted, we asked the waitress if we could get separate checks for our party. 3 couples so 3 checks. I understand restaurants don't care for this but it was a simple question. The waitress explained that she'd be happy to give us separate checks but we'd have to go by a numbering system. We were each assigned a number and then we had to tell her which numbers went together so she could figure out the check When we ordered a second drink, she asked us what our number was. It was ridiculous. Then, an appetizer showed up out of nowhere so my husband began eating it only to learn it was for a different table. We hadn't been to this restaurant before so we thought they may bring this dish to everyone. . The wait staff actually took the appetizer from our table and gave it to the correct table after we had sampled. It was so concerning to see. A great place like this should have left the appetizer and ordered fresh for the table next to us. My bone in ribeye was very well done on the outside but perfectly done on the inside. We also shared two sides, brussel sprouts and augratin potatoes which were delicious. Very slow water/drink refills. At one point, our waitress was gone for about 30 minutes. Never came back to ask us how everything was. The restaurant was only half full so I'm not sure where she went. Our bill for the two of us was $270. The food was good but for that kind of money, I expected to be treated like a queen. That did not happen. read more
