Overall 3.5 stars, but the service and view are what made our visit memorable (Thank you Beverly, Mateo, and Kaitey*!) - My boyfriend and I had one of our first dates here in 2018 and were feeling spontaneous and decided to drive down for a few hours. - We came and asked to be seated outside and to our luck we were able to snag a table with a fire pit. Not only this but we were treated so well and were able to joke around and get to know our waiters a bit more. (Kindness goes a long way) Food - The crab cakes were good, but they didn't come out hot. Flavor is there but it's a bit more breaded than I would've liked. - The beer battered artichoke hearts were delicious. The acidity of the artichoke hearts, created a nice balance with the batter. - The pesto stuffed salmon was flavorful, the panko crust added a nice crunch to the fish. The pesto was well balanced and the lemon topped the dish off. The wild mushroom rice was tasty, it was seasoned perfectly without being too much or too dry. - The distillery decadence (brownie w/ ice cream & whipped cream) was good and chocolatey. The brownie wasn't hot but warm in some parts but way too hard overall that I couldn't break through with the spoon. - The apple tart would've been better had there been ice cream. - The outdoor patio is dog friendly and the dogs visiting with their humans while we were there were shedding terribly and their fur/hair was everywhere due to the wind, so that was rather unenjoyable. First time here. We sat inside with a perfect view of the coast. They also have a lot of outside dining downstairs - also with great ocean views. I ordered the sliders. Three stars for these. When I get a slider, I don't expect to need to add anything to it. These needed mayo. Four stars for the fries. My daughter ordered the burger with onion rings with a side of ranch and bbq sauce. Her burger was better than my sliders. Very tasty ranch - not typical. A restaurant on the coast doesn't need to have the best food. They can book reservations based on the location. This was just a perfect Birthday supper for me. I had the clam chowder and the linguine with prawn, Partner had the fish and chips and the beet salad. Doggo had the chicken breast and the scrambled egg (which helped us learn a very important lesson, she only likes scrambled egg from home, cooked in butter, just the egg, not so much) The Chicken was a HUGE hit with her though. The day was very foggy and cool, wonderful break from the 90 degree heat at home, and honestly, my favorite beach weather. We could hear the ocean while eating, very peaceful. I highly recommend the patio seating, and the Dog-specific Menu was a great touch. The servers were top notch, just all-in-all a perfect afternoon for us. read more

This is quite the popular spot. Thankfully we had a reservation. We arrived about 12 minutes before our reservation but they were busy and it was a while before they turned to us. We had a rez for indoor but we wanted the sunset views so we chose the patio/outdoor seating. That area is first come first serve. It took us a minute to find the right table and chose one to the right and back when facing the sunset; we still had a view but weren't in direct sun. It was chilly and got colder as the sun set. The views from this area are stunning. You get a table number stand when you choose your table which is quite interesting since you still order with a server. To drink, I had the house Chardonnay and let me tell you, it was absolutely delicious! Can't remember the name but I hope they have it next time. We asked for bread but our food came out before our sever brought the bread so we ended up not having any. To eat, I ordered the seafood linguine pasta. SKIP IT! It was so tasteless and underwhelming, and for the price it is disrespectful. My partner had the fish & chips with onion rings instead of fries and it was very very good. With the views and just being in the moment, this was quite a wonderful experience. However overall I would consider this spot your general American pub with American pub food, nothing special. i made a reservation over the phone and got my request for a table by a window. the view of the ocean was so nice, highly recommend dining here. our server susan was very attentive and friendly and made sure our dinner was perfect! we ordered the beer battered artichoke hearts, coast sliders, and some oysters, (bread was complimentary). overall everything was delicious, but the sliders were our favorites. they even brought out dessert for a birthday that was being celebrated and sang. read more

Hidden away and perched on the side of cliff over looking the ocean, the views are amazing whether you are watching the sunset on the outdoor patio or in dinning room surrounded by large windows showcasing the beauty of the surrounding area. This historic landmark was opened as a speak easy back in 1927. The building has tons of old world charm and is unique. This review is specifically for their brunch offerings. I recommend making reservations so that you can get a table next to the windows. Arrive early because there will be a line prior to opening. It's $41 per person and you have a selection to choose from for your meal. The fried shrimp and crab cakes were fresh and meaty accompanied by a perfectly crunchy crispy batter along with their in-house slaw. Really it was the overall freshness of seafood that really stood out. Go for the view but stay for the food. Level up your brunch and come for the experience! read more

I've never actually ate inside the restaurant because I've always had a dog. They are dog friendly and have a very nice outdoor patio with fire pits. There food and my drink were all very good. I got their coast sliders which were three with grilled fish which I appreciate when restaurants offer fresh fish rather than just fried. Their blue lady martini was good and tart. Their prices aren't too over the top. Beautiful views of the ocean and there are stairs that descend down to the beach where supposedly a woman who was murdered spirit remains called the blue lady. The view is great, and is the reason I returned to the restaurant with friends after having gone there previously for a glass of wine and sitting out on the patio. However, this time things were pretty different. We were there for dinner, and the food was mediocre. Our drinks were actually bad enough that two people in our party sent them back and did not request replacements, because it was not clear the bartender knew what they were doing. I drank less than half my cocktail, which I think was supposed to be gin, lemon, and basil - the flavor wasn't great, and I could barely taste the gin, but it was close enough to a very expensive lemonade that I just toughed it out. I would go back for a glass of wine or a beer and the view, but would not get another cocktail or order the food. read more

First time visiting the Moss Beach distillery and I can really understand why this is a long time favorite! What an amazing location right on edge of the ocean. The views are amazing!!!!! Having lunch on their pet friendly back patio with my pups, listening to the sounds of the crashing waves, smelling the ocean breeze and watching the beautiful horizon ahead. It was so relaxing and we had a great time. The food and drinks at this historic establishment are decent and the service is friendly. I particularly appreciate how seriously this restaurant takes COVID safety with their temperature/mask check in at the entry and their efforts at social distancing the tables including lower capacity even outside. So make a reservation because they have limited seating open. There's a big parking lot next to the restaurant so it's easy to find parking. read more

I came here with a huge group of about 15 people on a rainy Friday night in Moss Beach, by recommendation of a friend who told us that the restaurant is haunted by the Blue Lady, which also happens to be the name of one of their most popular drinks. We ordered several orders of fish and chips, cheesy bread with marinara sauce, seafood platters, artichoke hearts, and calamari. Everything was so delicious! The fish and chips and the pork chops were my favorites. Everything is tender and so yummy! There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and it's gorgeous for sunsets. Unfortunately the day we went it was dark and rainy, but I could imagine how beautiful it must have been otherwise! If you visit, I'd recommend the Fish and Chips or the Seafood Platter, which is basically the fish and chips but with additional fried calamari and shrimp. The shrimp and cod were especially fried to perfection! The tartar sauce was delicious. The blue lady was quite alcoholic in taste but still worth trying given the namesake and pretty color. Prices could have been a little cheaper, though it was reasonable for the area, and the staff was kind. read more

We came here Sunday mid afternoon and had made reservations for the patio (called on Thursday and got a 3:45 reservation). We checked in and were given a table number. Empty tables were first come first serve. We were able to get a table by the view in the corner. It was a bit cold as we were not near a fire pit (wear layers!). They did have a few heat lamps spread out. We ordered the clam chowder, crab cakes, seafood quesadilla, fish tacos, and sweet potato fries. The food took quite a while to come out and by the time it did, most of it was cold. We were quite hungry by then so didn't say anything but were a bit disappointed. The food overall was alright. The star of the show was the clam chowder. The fish tacos had a good helping of fish as did the seafood quesadilla. The crab cakes were a bit salty and the sweet potato fries were overpriced given the portion. Overall, the view was nice but we wouldn't be coming back here for the food. read more

Second visit - was there in time for the Sunset. Great view. But I still think the food is mediocre. The artichoke hearts were good but the dipping sauce too heavy on what tasted like mustard. I am a huge French onion soup fan and this one I would skip. For my taste, the sherry used was too sweet and the bread ratio to cheese way off. Too much bread, not much cheese for my liking. The oyster Rockefeller was just ok. At other restaurants and may be a more traditional version, this one lacked butter and the richness that the oysters were named for. The seafood platter was a huge plate of fried food. Just a caution, this might be better enjoyed for the table to share. A bit much for one. Another stand out was the disappointing by the glass wine selection. For the types of wines on their list - overpriced for the selection. Service was better than my first visit. Maybe the third will be a charm- I might just try apps and a cocktail by the fire pit another time. read more

My mom and I came here as a memorial lunch for my grandparents birthdays. The server we had was the sweetest, warmest lady. I'm sad I can't remember her name now, but I think it started with a "J" or "S". She gave us some of the best service we had in a very long time! We ordered the pesto garlic bread as a starter. It had great flavor but was really dry and crumbly. I had the pesto salmon which was cooked perfectly, but my side of wild rice was mushy and my vegetables were just ok. My mom got the mushroom ravioli and while the tomato cream sauce it came with was delicious and bursting with flavor (we dipped our garlic bread in it which made it really yummy!), you couldn't tell there were mushrooms in the ravioli at all. My mom got some chocolate cake for desert and loved it! The view was incredible, but the cleanliness of the restaurant left a lot of room for improvement. The bathroom was also outdated which I don't mind, but there were broken tiles around the sink and it just didn't seem to align with the rest of the vibe the restaurant was trying to go for. Overall, this seems like a place that used to be amazing back in the day and has gotten a bit tired? My mom and I won't be returning anytime soon, but maybe we'll try it out in a year or so and see if anything has improved. So, the first time I came here was almost 20 years ago. It was a foggy summer's day and we just had a couple of drinks on their patio, maybe shared an app. Back then it was super casual, think you had to order everything through the bartender and walk it to the patio. Not a big deal really as I assumed it was a weekday thing. I also think there were less than 8 people total on that unassuming weekday lunch hour. I think due to time, and more importantly the internet, that this place is no longer a local's secret. The whole world knows and flocks. Rightfully so as it sits on a cliffside overlooking the ocean. The best views however are from the parking lot, which has several wooden benches to sit on and just gaze face to face with the Pacific. It is special...if you can find a spot. This time I came post beach/hiking nearby on a weekday late afternoon. Even though it was between lunch and dinner, the place was still buzzing, especially the patio. Since I had already been there, I felt no need to squeeze in there. I chilled in the bar area instead. And with this crowd here, I can only imagine what a weekend could bring, like non-stop action I'm betting. Well, it is still super casual. Anywhere in the bar, you will have to get up and order through the bartender. No servers. I luckily replaced some bar customers, so I was able to be close to the bartender. This way, you will get conventional table/bar service. The hour I chose I'm sure made this possible. Bliss Chardonnay ($11/4*) Seemed like house level, but it was a very good choice for a basic white. It was from Mendocino and it was crisp and refreshing. I would totally revisit this. Cup of Chowder ($10 per cup/4.5*) Damn good chowder, I'd say textbook. Very creamy and good representation with potato and clam chunks. I would seriously consider getting the bigger bowl size next time. Just too bad they don't serve this with a nice sourdough bread, then it would be a fiver. Beer Battered Artichoke Hearts ($15ish/4.5*) This is good Cali coast specialty. This was better than most I've tried up and down this coast. Batter was light and crisp. The artichoke hearts definitely seemed like from fresh artichokes versus from the ones in cans/jars. Nice meaty bites and the accompanying lemony aioli was an ideal dip. Prawn Cocktail ($16/3.5*) This threw me off a bit, only because the shrimps were fresh off the grill and warm. I suppose I'm just so used to this being nice and chilled. It is still served with a good cocktail sauce, not super thick with a good horseradish presence. But to dip warm garlic-y shrimp into that sauce, just didn't quite do it for me. The shrimps were grilled nicely, just couldn't surpass my expectations for the dish, that's all. Ketel Martini ($14/5*) Very properly made martini with ice crystals floating on top for the first minute or so. Perfect ratio and great shake. They also ask if you want a lemon twist, olives or cocktail onions. Not of the norm, but still appreciated the ask. I'm gonna do the onion next time, but that'll turn it into a Gibson, which I haven't seen in forever. The bartender was super nice. Just felt kinda bad cuz only the people sitting at the bar got that type of service. Everybody else sitting at the tables had to go back and forth. Well after one drink, not that bad really, but I did feel lucky. Trust. I've found my time frame that works for me, so I'm sure I'll be back. read more

This place is clearly a hidden- in- plain- site absolute GEM! The food is top notch . The venue is both beachside & historic . The servers work as a team and all seem to try hard to be helpful & casual yet friendly. The views from various levels are spectacular , the fires cozy , the drinks are strong and the seafood is both fresh and crispy . Any hour here could be very happy , but THEY call Happy hour(5-7mon- Friday) ! And happy hour features 1/2 price well drinks , draft beer and wine. In the bar only . The patio is famously dog friendly so bring your buddies and enjoy the beach in style. read more

Absolutely spectacular location overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It's a view that we will never be tired of. The service was excellent. We initially sat outside but quickly realized that the cold wind was more than we can tolerate. The restaurant/servers accommodated our request for an inside spot with an unbeatable window side table. It is with certainty that we we will return. The food we ordered was good comfort food. Nothing on the menu jumped out as adventurous or avantgarde; however that is not the point of this eatery. The food was competently prepared California/American cuisine. We rolled in at 7:30 on a Thursday night only to find they close the kitchen at 7:15. Who closes a restaurant in a vacation destination or any town at 7:15? A deliciously haunting place! We stopped by mid-afternoon without reservations, and they were able to fit us in -- not only at a window seat, but at the HAUNTED BLUE LADY TABLE! The views are to die for, pun intended. I had a regular burger (with Jack) and sweet potato fries (just okay)...and hubby had the sliders; their burgers are unbelievably tasty. I'm quite a burger fanatic, and these were outstanding; the roasted onions really added a great touch. The outdoor patio looked amazing but the weather really wasn't permitting for that this time...will have to try that next time we go back. read more

Tucked away from busy Highway 1 but overlooking the Pacific Ocean, is Moss Beach Distillery. We sat outside on the patio which, I highly recommend. The views are beautiful. You may even see the seals and whales below. Bring a jacket because it can get chilly but they do have large firepits that give off plenty of heat. Food was great, quite upscale. We had best ever Clam Chowder, the most delicious Crab Cakes (sauces are superb). Our entrees were Coast Sliders, Chicken Marsala, and Prawn Louie Salad. We thoroughly enjoyed them all. We did try the Artichoke Heart and they were okay but paled in comparison to the other dishes. We'll skip them next time....and there will definitely be a next time. Such a great experience. He said he remembered the dessert being good, something about a chocolate cake? Not sure if they still have that but let's get into the review! Char-Grilled Skirt Steak: I got my steak medium, it was the MOST, TENDER, JUICY, IMPECCABLE steak I've ever had :) there was a lot of cheese on the side I think and chimchurri but I think you're supposed to put it on the steak. I straight up ate it and it definitely is one of those cheeses that's kind of salty so it was too much but that's on me haha. Everything in this dish works perfectly and is very tasty. 10/10 Coquille De Mer: I wasn't sure what a coquille was, but according to google, it's "A meal, especially a seafood dish, served in an actual scallop shell or a dish (container) shaped like a shell. I feel like the dish is just an oval but I digress- the dish itself is soft, you can definitely taste every bite of crab & it pairs well with everything on the plate. The only thing my partner wished there was more of would be the rice. 9 1/2 out of 10! Clam Chowder: I, and I cannot stress it enough LOVE this soup. There's a lot of texture in this dish and I'm someone that frequents boudin (don't come for me lmao) but coming here made me realize there are definitely different types of clam chowder. 10/10 Calamari: This calamari was yummy but I think it slightly lacked in flavor!
