The pancake, which I could not even begin to eat, was the size of the whole plate, very large & fluffy. Service was great, very attentive. I was craving a burger and being in Bakersfield there are many options. On the way to this specific location this restaurant is right next to a Carls Jr. which was our first choice for something quick but my partner and I decided to support a local business instead so we chose to walk the few extra steps to Mossman's. Located in what used to be a bowling alley which adds a sort of classic ambiance to the experience. Boy, am I glad with our decision. It was not so busy and we sat at a dimly lit booth where we were greeted by very polite and pleasant waitresses. They were quick to take our order and our meal wasn't long before it was ready. I ordered the Ortega burger while my partner ordered the bacon cheeseburger. Both excellent. The Ortega burger I highly recommend over the Ortega burger at Tiny Marie's (also located in Bakersfield) this Ortega burger was juicy and perfectly seasoned. They do cut their tomatoes a bit thick but that's great since I love tomatoes. The fries were okay but definitely elevated with their delicious ranch that I mixed with buffalo sauce for my own kick (highly recommend trying this mix) we didn't even ask but the waitress brought us seasoning salt which paired delightfully with the fries and burger. The burger also comes with a pickle spear (hell yeah) our drinks were constantly refilled and combined with air conditioning for this Bakersfield heat, it was a great experience. I met for breakfast with a large group of friends and everyone was extremely happy with their meals. From Biscuits&Gravy, bacon & eggs to French toast they were all raving with delight. The service was top notch!!! Courteous, considerate with conversations happening and incredibly quick. She was in high gear the entire time. (You don't see that very often these days) I will definitely be back and encourage friends and family to put Mossman's at the top of their list for breakfast and lunch spots. Ok, now I won't be back. Not because of the service, the waitress was great. But the food was awful! The fish and chips were soggy and tasted fishy! I'm sorry but cod is not suppose to taste fishy! We assumed it must have been old. Being it was a Sunday. Lemon couldn't even cover up that nasty taste. The tartar sauce tasted like mayonnaise. The fries were cold and had no flavor. It's also sad to say but the onion rings were burnt! My daughter had the phillie and she had to ask for au ju so she could dip it in something because it had no flavor. They weren't all that busy. We just had breakfast and the service and food were outstanding! Eggs cooked perfect, country potatoes cooked with onions and red & green bell peppers was an absolute surprise and amazing! We have been a couple times since they moved. First time on a Friday had an unbelievable clam chowder it was delicious and I'm a Massachusetts raised and have had the best but this is definitely equal and wonderful. My husband and I went this morning for breakfast and had the most delicious chicken fried steak and took enough home for a dinner definitely the best. An hour later I asked when will we get our food she said a party of 40 came in early and they came first- wait they came in early push us back so we left and went to Jack in the Box. We went on a Friday at 5:30. We had about 3 tables of ppl in our group. We arrived prior to the dinner rush, knowing we needed to be out of there by 6:30ish. Took a bit for the waitress to take our drink orders, but she was super nice. Our issues were not technically the waitresses fault. She was given a party of about 15 by herself, probably more than she was accustomed to. Our issues came from the kitchen. We ordered appetizers & dinner. The onion rings were over cooked. Out of our group, the 2 who ordered 1st never got their order. My friend ordered a salad & added a few items with dressing on the side. When we said she hasn't received it, the waitress said she went to the kitchen & was told that when someone attempted to deliver it, we said it wasn't ours. That never occurred. When she gave it to my friend, it was wilted, smothered in dressing & has no meet, the original salad items that were supposed to be on it, only the extra toppings she requested. So she ate the avocado only. We had multiple orders of fish & chips that were over cooked. The kids food didn't come until last & the 1 burger bun was so black, burnt, it wasn't edible. I totally understand they just opened June 1, but this was unacceptable. I don't think they were prepared to open a full restaurant, rather than the bowling alley kitchen. If it continues to have poor food like we had, they'll go out of business quickly. The waitress was great. The manager could use a little work on customer service. First time I visit this place. The worst food and service ever! Their coffee tastes horrible and wasn't hot at all. We ordered the chicken fried steak and it was worst. It was too hard and rubbery to cut with a knife. The ham also tasted like an old dish towel. At the end of our meal, we waited at the table to pay and the owner, Rick Mossman, comes out and walks over and picks up the last of the dishes and he looks at my son and mumbles "our future dishwasher" as he walks away with attitude. Like this is something he does all the time. So unprofessional and racist! I will never give, recommend or support this venue again! On top of that, they don't tell you that they charge $2.50 service charge for payments on card. Will never go back again. This was at buena vista location. We had a retiree breakfast there. It was about 20 of us. The food was great, it came out pretty quickly and was delicious. Seating for large groups inside is kinda tight, they put us in a long booth and it's hard to get in and out of there. They do have a patio, but it was hot that morning and we didn't want to sit outside, although they do have fans out there. Oof, the new location is a far cry from their catering reputation. I've now been twice, once for breakfast and once for dinner. Breakfast review first. The place was half empty yet our server never came to check on us. I kept having to walk up to the bar for refills / service. Not a good look when it's not even busy. The "world famous" pancakes were very mid as the kids say. Dinner was only a notch better because our server Jenna was so sweet and attentive. The food was still mediocre and I even got their famous fish n chips. Since moving to Bakersfield, I have heard repeatedly how I "must try Mossman's!" They claimed it was a "staple of Bakersfield", swearing the fish and chips were the best around. Now, I've been really focusing on being the healthiest version of myself. What I received was *passable* as tri-tip, but completely inedible. The veggies were drenched in some oil or something, so I really couldn't eat any of it either. I guess it's what I get for listening to "word of mouth". I'd feel just as silly running full speed into a brick wall and crying over the broken bones. Go to a coffee shop in the sketchy parts of Bakersfield, you're gonna get a sketchy coffee shop meal. I used to go to the Broken Yolk Cafe with family and friends! Every weekend I could count on a Super Great Breakfast ! The service was great ! Friendly! Helpful! It was family friendly! I have visited Mossman's 5-6 times over the past few months. Disappointed. The food and service is terrible. I thought it was a one-off, as they say. But NO. It took a while to geta coffee, no spoon to stir the terrible cheap creamer they use ( Delight ). The menu is very limited and looks unappetizing. No steak and eggs! but rather a single small patty of sausage. dry and flavorless. HASHBROWNS were like MUSH !!! I about gaged on the texture. Chicken fried steak, not on the menu. tried the avocado toast... cold cherry tomatoes slapped on it with cold toast topped with cold over easy eggs. Sad !!! waffles ... cold. Coffee cup stayed empty til I ask for more. I remember spending $200-300.00 dollars for family breakfast, I was embarrassed! We went to Black Bear the following week. It was packed. Like Broken Yolk used to be. I gave Mossman's 6 chances before I said to myself, "NO MORE !" It's not the money that I spent, it's the great disappointment of wishing I hadn't gone there for knowing better. Sorry Mossman's, I live so close by and Black Bear is so much further away for me. This is the place to go. Their food is really good. I been here during breakfast and their chicken and waffle is sooo good. They give you this maple syrup with jalapeño that just tops it off. I been here for lunch as well and their burgers are great. Good place to go with the family. The people that work there are also nice. Have not had a bad experience so far. I love it! read more

I went there because I'd loved their fish and chips they served at their previous locations in the bowling alleys. They had long been my go-to for F&C here in Bakersfield. The quality is just as good as it ever was. Sorry if the review is a little one note, just the Fish and Chips, but I can't say I've ever had anything else from them. I am sure they have other good things, but the Fish are just that good. I keep telling myself saying I'll try something else, but find I lie to myself about that. The only slight negative I can say is their Coleslaw is bland. Not bad, just bland. But the coleslaw is not a make or break of the meal to me. The ambiance is just that of a good coffee shop. Nice, clean, nothing bad to say about it. If you are looking for more in a coffee shop you might want to reconsider your metrics. read more

My family & I went here this morning. It was packed for Father's Day, but we didn't have to wait too long to be seated. Our server was really good! Checked up on us a lot! There was an older lady going around each table checking on everyone and giving the men keychains for Father's Day! She was adorable and so very sweet!
