There is outdoor dining under a covered patio. The pleasant staff took our order quickly. We got the club sandwich combo with fries and a drink ($16). This is a lot of food. I talked to a nice man who mentioned this restaurant is family-owned and introduced me to his family working that day. Just stop here for lunch on my way home from Fresno to Westlake Village. I ordered my favorite, which is a chile relleno platter which came with a green salad. My food was excellent! The restaurant and restrooms were nice and clean. We'll definitely stop by again when in the area. read more

I happened to be in Bakersfield and was craving a burger. I thought I'd stop at the nearby Woolworth. I heard it was the last one in America. Unfortunately, they were closed for remodeling, which is good if it comes back as a Woolworth. Next I tried to find this small burger stand. Maybe it didn't survive the pandemic because I couldn't find it. I ended up at the old burger spot back in my college days. It was called Sail Thru Burgers. Now it's called "Ortega Char Burgers." I ordered the Cheese Burger Combo. First, I noticed the amount of fries is incredible. It could actually be a meal if I was a vegetarian. Thank God for cows. And the cheese burger was no slouch either. The patty had a great char taste and the lettuce, tomato, and onion were nice and crisp. Better than the old Sail Thru burger of years past. Ortega's definitely get 5/5 for service. I've been coming by here lately and have gotten mostly the breakfast items to-go. Each time, I've been met with a friendly smile and polite conversation. The pancake platter and the omelette breakfast are usually my pickups here. Each order never came short with condiments or utensils which can't be said for most big fast food chain restaurants that charge you extra for ketchup or sauce. Sometimes, the small mom-and-pop operations go out of their way to create that ambiance and service that you find more appealing in local markets. This is a hidden gem. One of the best huevos rancheros in town. refried beans were so on point and alot of cheese with the tortillas and eggs. One of the co owners of this place is probably one of the nicest business owners I've met in a long time. He's understanding, will work with you to be reasonable about things. I had a charge on my bank that made it look like I got charged twice, but instead of telling me I didn't and I'd have to wait to see, he took the time to break it down to me the way the charges work and because of that I understood that there wasn't a double charge. Small space with big taste! This little restaurant serves everything from burgers to Mexican food plates to American dinners. I'm talking pork chops, steaks, fish and chips, tacos, menudo and more. When I first walked in I noticed how busy they were. Taking orders inside, on the phone and for the drive thru all at ones but somehow I still received very welcoming and friendly service. The counter man took my order and repeated it for confirmation. My order took about 8-10 minutes to be ready and while being handed my food I was repeated my order once more to ensure everything was in the bag.
