First of all, I never write yelp reviews. I couldn't let this one slide though. I don't mind paying a premium price for good food and a nice experience. Maybe I just ordered the wrong dish but the pasta bolognese was awful. It was swimming in a tasteless soupy mess. It had zero flavor. I tried my girlfriend's filet. Same thing. Just an over cooked piece of meat. It was very disappointing. Definitely won't be back. Sorry Mother's. But there needs to be some serious quality control in the kitchen. read more

Mothers was mothering! Came here for a work dinner and it had an old town Italian vibe to it. We were seated outside which I was afraid it would be too cold but they blasted the heater that I actually felt too hot. It was a small place too so I wouldn't recommend coming in with more than 10 people. The service was good and the place was clean - I thought the bathrooms were spotless. Besides that, the food choices were pretty standard. I was thinking to go with the scallops (my co-worker got this) but ended up with the filet mignon steak and it was delicious! Mother's is a true example of.... "Never judge a book by its cover. " I say this because Mother's is located on a street that reminds me of an alley. It's cramped due to parking on both sides of the road, plus it doesn't help that your dodging potholes as well. Upon entering the restaurant/bar I noticed right away the place is super outdated, loud, and very busy at the bar area. Normally I would have left because of this, but for some reason I was ok with that. Because everything about this restaurant fits the area and the people. So, after we were seated, Jeff our waiter came and took our drink orders. He went over the menu and specials and gave us time to make our choices. Like Jeff, every waiter and waitress was in good spirits and this included the diners. Right then it came to me that Mother's is the real life Cheer's. The food is great but the service last night was terrible. Not only did the server chase us down once we were out the door to let us know she was not satisfied with the tip, but she embarrassed us in front of other customers. Which we did not appreciate. I believe tip is given based on the service of the night, and service was not so great. We ordered 3 mocktails, and asked if one of them can be changed or made sweeter as it did not taste good. The server's response was "the bar won't do it." I have never been to a restaurant where I was told I cannot exchange a drink, or that I can't even be given some sweetener to sweeten the drink. We noticed customers that were seated after us receiving bread and butter, which we had to ask our server for as she did not provide it for us upon serving our food. Regardless of how the service was, there is no reason or situation in which a server should be running after me to let me know she's not satisfied with the tip and to lecture me about how the tip pays the kitchen, bar and servers. I enjoyed a lovely dinner with my mom and my aunt before attending an event at Kleinhan's. We had reservations for 6:00 pm and were seated right away. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, but we made sure to let our server know we had plans after dinner, and he was more than accommodating. Mother's is the quintessential Buffalo late night joint. I ended up here on a Saturday night after hosting a large event. Some friends were out around midnight and invited me to stop by. Mother's has a reputation for being THE late night food spot in Buffalo, so I didn't want to miss the chance to check it out. Where else can you dine at a fine-dining like atmosphere at like 11:30pm? Mother's is really known for their outdoor patio. It's so beautiful, with gorgeous lights and an enclosed beautiful atmosphere. Despite the summer rainstorms, we felt safe and secure under their patio. The food and drinks I tried were great and the service was upscale and professional. I'm focusing more on the ambiance in this review, since I really just picked some of the food my friends ordered and enjoyed the atmosphere, vibe and company here (didn't really come here to eat). One of the top ten restaurants in Buffalo, hands down! We made reservations for the patio on a summer evening, and were delighted that they even had that as a possibility. Most places are "first come, first serve." Score 1! Their staff is very professional & friendly on the phone, when you first enter, and throughout the entire visit. Score 2! We were here to celebrate a birthday and were delighted with a delicious meal, great weather, and relaxing ambiance. We first ordered a "Provence bread basket" for the table as it was grilled bread with sides of pesto, roasted red peppers, nicoise olives, and goat cheese. We also went with some steamed clams. Yum! We were ready to splurge all night from our wallet to our waist line! A wonderful aspect of Mother's is that everything is very well paced. There is no rush to get you in and out for the next table. Casually order drinks, appetizers, main courses, and dessert without ever feeling rushed. Also, aside from their regular menu that can be found online, there is always a Specials menu that is constantly changing so you will definitely find something that entices you. Score 3! (Get the jist?) We all ordered meals that tasted even more delicious on the palette as they sounded on the menu board. From a wedge salad, steaks, halibut and lobster gnocchi, we were spoiled! The last time I stopped in to Mother's I was a bit underwhelmed by service and quality of food, but I miss her so much I needed to check up and see how she's doing. So I stopped in at opening time on a recent Sunday. They were fully booked so I chose a seat at the bar to get a snack and a cocktail (note to self -always call for a reservation!) I spent a lovely afternoon, had delicious cocktails and all the dishes ordered were excellent and well prepared. It was lovely sitting at the bar by the front window on a rainy afternoon. Dark and dreamy, Mother's has become an iconic late-night dinner spot nestled in Allentown. And I finally had the pleasure of trying it for myself! My boyfriend made reservations for us so we were seated right away. The service here was phenomenal -- everyone on the staff was kind and attentive. Mother's offers a sizable everyday menu, but their long list of specials are the real stars. I opted for the shrimp and linguine special while my boyfriend got the scallops and black fettuccine off of their daily menu. We were pleased with both of our choices -- and we started with the Southwest shrimp fritters which were a-okay as well. They have lots of non-seafood options too, for those who prefer a steak or pork chop. Mother's could be a great spot for a special celebration dinner -- but it's just as good for a random Friday when you decide you want to go out for something a little bit fancy. The food here is a bit on the higher end but it's divine! I haven't had a meal I didn't like here. It gets busy so you should book reservations. It was summer so I sat out on their patio. Plan ahead as well for parking as it can get tight for street parking and you may have to find another street to park on. Appetizer: shrimp fritters Omg sooo good! Think cornbread with shrimp. The dip was delicious and it came with 4 decent sized fritters with nicely sized pieces of shrimp inside! Entree: sliced duck I subbed mashed potatoes for the carb cause I was in the mood for mashed. They charged an extra $2 for substitutions which I find ridiculous because it's not like they weren't already serving mashed potatoes on the menu. Entree was delicious; duck cooked perfectly. My husband and I had dinner at Mother's Restaurant last night. As always, everything was perfect. First off their cocktails are expertly crafted and reasonably priced. We sat out on the patio and it was a beautiful evening. Dinner was delicious from start to finish. Great appetizer of clams in tomato broth. I ordered a shrimp, artichoke, linguini with lobster sauce dish on the specials menu. My husband had the Halibut that was cooked perfectly. The dinners are always complete with veggies and a starch. Also reasonably priced. Dessert was an Espresso Cheesecake - out of this world!! Our server was very friendly and efficient. All in all a pretty perfect Summer experience. read more

Wow. I haven't been here in 2 years and I am glad I haven't. Everything was absolutely disgusting and foul. Besides the oysters and desert because they didn't make it. The veal was ridiculously dry and fatty. The chicken cutlets tasted like they were made 2 weeks ago and microwaved and then they dumped cooking wine on it and called it a sauce. The asparagus was even bad. I'm not sure how you can screw up asparagus but wow. $280 for 4 people to not even want to eat. I used to love this place but I am now officially an avid hater. I will be telling everyone I know not to come here. The server was nice but who cares when you can't even stomach your food. I had such high hopes for this restaurant when sitting down for my first meal at Mother's. I've heard people around town talk about this eatery as one of the best around, but I was sadly disappointed in my overall experience. The good: Service was excellent. Our server, MJ, took great care of our table. Was knowledgeable about the menu, patiently answered our questions, and was polite and courteous. Drinks were also good--cocktails were tasty. The bad: The food. Where to begin? Stuffed peppers came out lukewarm. Chicken cutlets were dry and lacking ample sauce. Only three small baby potatoes on the side, too--what kind of portion size is that? The swordfish was fine, but came with a side of rice that looked and tasted like an Uncle Ben's microwaveable package! I rarely leave anything less than 5-star reviews on Yelp. But it really felt like the restaurant was doing whatever it could to cut corners and reduce costs. For the price of our dinner, I was left wanting much, much more. Overall, a subpar experience. Definitely would not consider Mother's to be among the "cream of the crop" of Buffalo restaurants. You can find a better meal elsewhere! read more

Real rating is 3.5 stars. The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice, sort of fancy. The service was really good as well. Chicken wings were a 9/10 Spinach artichoke Brie dip was a 5.5/10 - lacked flavor Steak dinner was a 6/10 - the steak wasn't as tender as I'd like, the sauce that comes with it tasted like bbq and is just kind of a weird pairing with steak, and the asparagus was not seasoned at all. We ordered 6 or 7 appetizers: the hummus - is amazing; the artichoke dip was not (too buttery, not creamy, runny, odd flavoring); and several seafood items that I did not try but I will say the shrimp from the shrimp cocktail was the biggest I had ever seen! We did the same communal ordering for entrees. I asked for the Twin 4oz. Filet Mignon Beef Tournedos- wild mushroom ragout, demi glaze, roasted potatoes, & asparagus AND the short braised beef with egg noodles and asparagus. The filet was good, maybe slightly overcooked. The braised beef....melted, MELTED in my mouth. So good. Like homemade but more refined. Just excellent. Service was great too. Would definitely come back. read more

I hadn't been to Mother's in several years. I won't be back anytime soon. I made a reservation to celebrate my mom's milestone birthday. The ambience was fine. Pretty noisy but that wasn't unexpected. The food was... fine. Average. Nothing special for what I thought was one of Buffalo's nicer restaurants. My duck was overcooked and my son's strip steak was way too fatty. I wasn't impressed. But my bigger issue was with the staff. Our server was ok. Again, nothing special. But the hostess needs to find a different line of work. As I mentioned, my family was celebrating an occasion. At one point we asked the hostess to take a photo of us. Not an unusual request. Her response? "I can't, I'm busy." Not "I'm a little busy now but if you give me a minute, I would be happy to." Just a flat out no. Who says that?? Totally unacceptable. This really bothered us and after a while one of us went to say something to her. She came back to the table with excuses and a half-hearted non-apology that actually made it worse. Eventually our server took a photo, but that one small act really put a damper on what was supposed to be a celebration. Bottom line is don't rely on this restaurant's old reputation. This was one of the best steaks I've had in a LONG time! I ordered the 18oz ribeye that was on special and it was cooking perfectly. It pains me to write this review, as this was one of my favorite restaurants in Buffalo, but something has changed here and not for the better. My friends and I arrived prior to our reservation time and had drinks at the bar beforehand. The bartender was nice and the drinks were fine. We sat at a table near the kitchen and Anna our server was fantastic, no complaints there. But that's where the good ends as the food ruined the experience. We started out with crab cakes and stuffed banana peppers for appetizers. The crab cakes were decent, but the banana peppers lacked any flavor and no spice. For entrees, we ordered the Seafood Paella, Chicken Culets, Beef Tornados, and Scallops over Black Fettuccini. The sausage in the paella was so awful it tasted like it was freezer burned plastic and the rice had no flavor. The mushroom sauce on the beef tasted like raw mushrooms instead of a reduction. The chicken for the chicken cutlets had a weird texture that didn't remind me of chicken, but rather the meat part of a McDonald's chicken nugget. It was so disappointing and heartbreaking as the food used to be the spotlight of the evening. I may not be back for awhile, if at all. read more

Still a great place for dining and drinking. I started off with an old fashioned cocktail that was served professionally crafted by a longtime bartender Sam it was great. I tried the split pea with andouille sausage soup that was very good not too many restaurants do I need to add salt to the soup and I appreciate that I can add the amount of salt I prefer. I had the burger 10 oz Angus cooked medium with choice of toppings. I added cheese lettuce and tomato also webers horseradish mustard. It was a flavorful pillow of beefiness. Cooked to perfection I had ordered it cooked medium but it came out with a little pinkish throughout I was very pleased it was both tender, substantial and flavorful. Mother's is one of my favorite restaurants in Buffalo. The ambiance has a dim, intimate, comfortable and cozy vibe. The menu offers a variety of amazing staples on their dinner menu and there's always a special feature menu with new & delicious speciality dishes. A couple of my favorites staples are the seared scallops with black fettuccine, and the filet mignon. Recently we had a special feature appetizer of the little neck clams and they were to die for! The tomato broth, spinach, beans and garlic in the dish were a perfect match for the clams. We asked for extra bread to soak up the yummy goodness!!! The bar is always packed and lively. The cocktails are made by Sam, one of the best bartenders in Buffalo who executes them perfectly each and every time! I had a friend in from out of town that requested blue cheese stuffed olives in her dirty martini and he made them specially for her with crumbled blue from the kitchen. Now that's true stellar, unsurpassed service that seems to be rare these days and is much appreciated!!! I love the fact that Mother's is open late night for dinner too. They also have an spacious and inviting outdoor patio that's always nice to enjoy weather permitting. For reservations, you have to call the restaurant. Parking can be a bit challenging on a busy night as it's basically street parking only but that doesn't phase or deter me. Definitely get to Mother's soon and often!!! read more

Mother's is the kind of place that you walk into and instantly get that "family" feeling. When we arrived at 8pm we saw older couples wrapping up their meals at the bar and saying goodbye to all the staff, and by the time our meal was finished, younger groups were coming in who clearly knew everyone too. While they are not currently open until 3am as they used to be (COVID and all) I'd be interested to see what it's like here in those later hours another time. Same day reservations are always a gamble at proven and popular places, but mother's was able to squeeze is in at a bar table. The table was tucked against the wall in their wide main walkway. We felt like we were a part of things as hosts and servers stopped to chat, though never in the way as a table like this has felt to me in other places. I have never been disappointed with a wine from the curated list here, and while I ordered by the glass today, always keep an eye on their discounted bottle special if you're getting through a whole bottle. Today I especially enjoyed the Alhambra Malbec from Argentina. Our starters of a dozen oysters and a warm brie-artichoke dip really hot the spot. The oysters were so clean, and already separated from the shells, we didn't even need the provided forks. The dip was chunky and warm, and went perfectly on both our slice of fresh buttered bread and the crostinis that came with it. Our entrees were the ribeye special and the duck special. Both were perfectly rare and extremely enjoyable. The steak came with broccoli and the duck with green beans that were both plain and unseasoned, but dipping them in the sauces that the meats produced made up for it. The steak also came with a perfectly fried portion of potatoes wedges, and the duck came on a parsnip puree. Both meals left is full and happy. Of course, we always agree to see the desert menu, regardless of how full we may feel. A chocolate mousse cake, a couple of cheesecakes, and some other great options. We both ordered the creme brulee and enjoyed every bit. They were topped with a strawberry and a generous portion of thick whipped cream. I love this place and definitely think it's one of those places everyone should try. I'm usually pretty adventurous when it comes to food, but Mother's does the classics so well that they are a good, tried and true break from the riff raff of new restaurants that can be hit or miss. read more

Recently went here after getting in on a late flight (not much else open at 10:30 on a Monday). Sat at the bar and ordered salads (fine, can't really mess up a house salad) St. Louis ribs appetizer (ribs were fine, slaw on the side tasted fishy which was absolutely disgusting) , and meatloaf (strange order for a restaurant but it used to be great. This time it was horrible). The gravy tasted like it was made from one of those powdered packets you mix with water. The meatloaf itself seemed like it was just reheated in the microwave way too long- totally dried up along the edges. Guy next to us at the bar was vaping while we ate which was pretty off putting. Won't give one star because the place is iconic and I used to love it... but it's a disaster. read more
