I was really surprised they were open on 4 th July which was life saver for me because I wasted to ride on the weekend but had a chain to replace which I haven't done before. Since I like working on my car I thought I could do it as well just needed right tools and some guidance. I ended up spending a lot more time than I anticipated because and don't get me wrong I could have changed the chain with Wilder's help and be gone in like 20 minutes but when I saw how much dirty my bike was it almost felt like sin to put a new chain on it. So I ended up taking few things apart and cleaning them properly. If I went to a regular shop would they even bother to do that? Probably no. That's why I like this place so much. I came "all the way" from South Bay and it was worth it. I'll definitely come back if I have some more work to do on my bike. Ps. This place is excellent, friendly staff, and had all the basics parts I needed for a tune up! The stations and tools there are fantastic. Great vibe for learning,BMW mechanic helped me tune my R1150rt-p. He clearly knew BMWs and was great to work with. Bike had been sitting for year plus and was now not starting., I was not sure what to do as I did not have the bones for dealership rates and did not know a good mechanic. I have a small garage to work in at home and have learned some things on my own, but frequently find myself afraid to work on a problem that I have no experience with. After seeing it for the first time, I know Moto Guild is going to be great for this type of situation. Also just took an electrics basics class there. Learned to solder, read an electrical diagram, diagnose charging systems ... stuff like that. Was very much worth it even though I had no specific project in mind. Jake (20 years of experience including working at both Harley and BMW dealerships in the past) has been a knowledgeable as well as supportive mentor when it comes to services on my 2010 Sportster which I felt requiring some guidance. In the four separate appointments I've had with him, ranging from front suspension rebuilds, rewiring electricals to accommodate for taller handlebars, and even Rocker box gasket replacements, it has always been a pleasant learning experience. Jake is one of those rare combination of having the experience that makes a solid mechanic as well as the patience of a saint (hallmark of good teachers in any field). Yikes. I feel a little nervous being the first Yelp elite to review MG (Moto Guild). First all, like many others, my introduction to tending to my own bike is super-way overdue. I've always wanted to do so, and being long-in-tooth, have had lots of experience on way-older automobiles, like my long-gone VW bug. This is important. Also, I'm an experienced bicyclist, and have done way too much work on it in the field, so I'm comfortable with tools, currently, but not on a moto. However, none of these facts gave enough comfort for the last 8 years to work on my first Moto, my beloved Triumph Bonnie. It just seemed too scary to me, to do anything! Funny, really, but, the ignorance got to me after seeing a nearby mechanic mangle another poor guy's wheel/tire-set trying to get if off, recently. It was terrifying to think of the potential damage to the whee. When the owner came to pick his bike up, the mech didn't disclose the issues he had! Also, when the same mechanic went to "tune-up" my bike, he never looked at the tread wear on my tires (retrospectively realizing this); one of which was very worn (a 5-year old tire, something they teach you at MG). As time wore on, it just seems that often I wasn't getting enough in return for the tune-ups, repairs, or little jobs I payed for at different shops, it seemed. So, I toyed with several options of repair classes including MG, and even visited their SSF facility once, which was cool, but crowded. Recently, I revisited the idea of a DIY moto maintenance class and compared MG and a competitor. It seemed like MG had a better selection of classes, way more facility/equipment, and I was happy with their reviews. So, I bit the bullet and took the Intro class, and although I felt comfortable turning a wrench, so to speak, I wanted to not "fake" my way into a more advanced class. I totally recommend unless you have any moto experience, that you should start with the Intro class. When the time came to take the class, I looked up the directions from my home in Mill Valley and found the class to be on TI and not SSF. This seemed crazy to me. I hemmed and hawed about spending an hour (across the GGB and fighting SF traffic onto the Bay Bridge) getting to the shop. This turned out to be useless worrying. It was super easy riding across the Bridge into TI, and plus it was a beautiful day (thank the Lord for the great weather forecasting we have nowadays). As for the class....there was 5 total of us, and fortunately we each had plenty of time with each of our bikes with Wilder. Wilder gave a super-thorough of 4-stroke engine basics, and a good explanation of everything else, which was fine. He gave us an excellent tour of the facility and the array of tools and resources. Each of us was able to put our bikes on stands and give the bikes a good looking-over. We each learned how to check our fluids (brake, engine), determine wear and type of tires, brake pad wear, and other very visible information, in other words, the minimum needed to ride safely. I was amazed how easy this is, and although I'm not ready to change a tire, I feel I can fix a flat on my tubeless tire. I am now able to determine brake pad and tire wear and feel a whole lot safer, and empowered, thanks to Wilder. I can't wait to take the Minor Service Workshop, and change my own fluids, and feel way more confident to take longer and longer rides.....with confidence in that I'm riding safely. read more

I wish I could give these guys more than 5/5. I took the valve class with Sean and it greatly exceeded my already lofty expectations. Sean is an incredibly experienced mechanic, is more than happy to explain things in great detail, and has an awesome attitude towards teaching and making sure the job is done right. That class was supposed to run from 10am to 6pm, but Sean stayed working with me until after 10pm to make sure things were done correctly. Throughout the entire process he welcomed all my questions, explained what each piece was and what it was doing, but never seemed patronizing nor got frustrated when I made a mistake, meaning the work would take longer. To top it all off, when we had put the bike back together, the check engine light came on. Sean took extra time and care to make sure we could determine the cause of the engine light and resolve it, to the point of us actually driving to his house at 10pm to use his ODB-II reader. This was one of the most informative, enjoyable, and all around awesome classes I've ever taken. I highly highly recommend it. read more

What an awesome place! My review is long overdue but here it is. After buying my motorcycle my buddy and I got some parts and kits we wanted to install. But living in the city at the time, we had no garage and very limited tools. Enter Moto Guild! Found out about this place and we're marveled at how convenient it was to setup a time to do DIY on our bikes with professional help. The hourly rates are reasonable and the manager, Wilder, is a great dude who doesn't mind lending an extra hand and going the extra mile for you. If you have a bike and need to work on it while not wanting to pay exorbitant hourly fees to a mechanic, this is the place for you. As a new bike owner, I am kind of mechanically stupid so I decided to schedule an hour with one of their mechanics to learn how to use a bunch of the tools and tinker with my bike. I already read all the great reviews. It was way better than Yelp lead me to believe. By the end of my 2 hours at the shop, I felt pretty comfortable doing basic stuff on my bike without help. The shop itself is clean, the tools are great, and the even have a lounge on the second floor if you need to take a break or get a drink. read more

Great experience! Yesterday I put new rubber on my 998 at MotoGuild-SF. The process was fun and I learned quite a bit. I reached out to MotoGuild-SF and asked if they could get some tires I was looking to install. They found a "new and improved" set for a better price than what was available on the Internet. They ordered the tires for me and had them shipped to MotoGuild-SF. I showed up yesterday, was assigned a station and got to work removing my wheels. When I had questions, people were eager to help. I needed a refresher lesson on the tire machine, but in the end it all worked out very well. If you are at all handy, this is the place to go work on your bike. They have every tool imaginable included in your station rental cost. Also, they offer courses to learn various motorcycle maintenance skills. Additionally there is a "snack bar" with many food and drink items when you need something to keep you going. read more

I love my bike and that's why I come to these guys so I can have the opportunity to learn about how it works and how you maintain it. I also find other bike shops frustrating with their inflated service rates . Moto Guild really is the only way you should be thinking about having work or maintenance done on your bike, if you are a serious rider. By serious, I mean those of us who spend more time on the motorcycle than any other mode of transportation. For me, it's my six day and week transbay commute. I recently had these amazing and friendly guys show me how to change both tires of my vstar 650. After I rode off I noticed that the exhaust pipe which we had to take off (long story) wasn't fitted back on properly. The bike was leaking carbon monoxide, losing power at high speeds and making an awful backfire noise upon any kind of deceleration. All because of this simple little problem. I thought no worries, we can probably solve this by tightening a couple of screws. The problem turned out to be a little more frustrating than that. I have to say I'm truly grateful for Wilder's massive help with this. As I'm still learning, I really don't have the confidence to tinker with the bike just yet. I watched him come up with an ingenious solution to refit the exhaust pipe between answering phone calls and helping out other workshop users. It took more than an hour to figure it out. But honestly, what I appreciate the most is the courtesy and patience with which he approached the problem. And at the end he refused to take any money from me, which honestly is not something you see motorcycle repair shops do elsewhere in the bay. I have to tell you that I love San Francisco because this kind of decency and genuine interest in a customer's problems still surprisingly exists. Which is the reason why I'm writing this review because we need to appreciate and commend awesome service like this. Oh, and now the bike runs like new! Thank you for your help today, Wilder. Fantastic resource for the bay area, and great facility. I have spent about 8 hours at Moto Guild this month and its been a fantastic experience. I have been struggling doing bike maintenance on the curb and its been rough. I had a large day planned of work so I booked some time at the shop. Everyone is extremely friendly and they have everything you need and more for a full motorcycle shop. Air tools, your own tool box and disposables like rubber gloves oils etc. Even for an hour or two or work it is worth booking time here. They also have oil change supplies in stock, which I will take advantage of in the future. If you are struggling with not having garage space please check out this fantastic shop. read more

The folks here are awesome! I've worked with Gale and Alex and they are totally knowledgeable and super friendly. Gale instructed the minor tune up workshop. Knew everything about all three of our bikes (we each had pretty different bikes). He spent extra time helping us complete everything.. he even helped me sync my carbs.. I got my dates mixed up and showed up a day late for the brakes class. Alex just happened to be there so he was kind enough to help me to do my brakes anyway. Took Moto Guild's November 2016 engine rebuild class (Friday evening, Saturday, Sunday). Worth the price of admission. Moto Guild supplied multiple 4-stroke, 2-cylinder engines and assigned two attendees to each motor. Each team disassembled its engine from top to bottom, from camshafts and valve tappets to transmission gears and shift forks. Seeing how all the components mesh helps to understand the root causes of engine issues. When assembling, incredibly useful to see how the numerous component alignment marks (piston direction, piston oil ring notch displacement, camshaft, timing chain, transmission neutral, etc.) must be positioned/ matched throughout the engine to ensure the "check-engine" icon doesn't light after the rebuild. super affordable and super fun place to hang out. They have coffee and snacks and lots of used jackets/suits etc. They have all the tools and all the basic supplies (chains, oils, batteries etc.) I booked their tire change tutorial. They taught me how to use the tire changer machine, bike lift, tips and tricks, all very worth it and super friendly/helpful staff. It cost half of what I'd pay for labor at a mechanic. Best of all, from now on I can walk in and use their machines space for $5/day ( the bike lift is $20/hr). Support your local Moto Guild!!!! read more

i came here to try and fix an issue with my bike that the stealership couldnt diagnose....the owners aleks and wilder made me feel at home and were very helpful, showing me around and letting me use lots of tools(thanks guys:))...after spending $110 an hour at many many shops around the bay for other people to do basic maintenance on my bikes, its good to know theres another option out there that allows me to get my hands dirty and learn about and bond with my machines....i love this place, and the next oil change i need will be done here alll by myself. also, they offer classes, so if u really want to learn about your bike theyll teach you all about it. i hope this place sticks around for a looooong time. read more

Super great motorcycle community. They started in SF, which was more convenient for me, but the short ride to Treasure Island is doable. Excellent place to learn and an even better place for do-it-yourself for maintenance. There's no reason to pay a mechanic to change your oil, or your brake pads, or hundreds of other things on the list. Learn to fix your own bike and pass the knowledge along to your friends. read more
