This place isn't hip or fashionable but if you are looking for a solid traditional breakfast this should be on your list. a friendly server greeted me when I walked in ( a plus) and I sat at the counter. Everything behind the counter was clean and well organized (another plus, which usually gives me optimism for the food at a given diner). Menu consists only of the brekast staples ( eggs,omlettes, french toast and pancakes) with a specials board offering a few alternatives. Like I said, traditional breakfast...just like I'm looking for when I go to a diner. My bacon and cheese omlette was done well....a nice portion of bacon in it...the hash browns were a little overdone, but that is just preference. Price was right on par with what you get. First visit to Mountain Café. We love these laid back breakfast/lunch places where the décor, food and atmosphere is more mom & pop than trendy. We decided to give this place a try based off the reviews. What a disappointment. The waitress was visibly annoyed that we had walked in. We didn't know if we had to wait to be seated or could seat ourselves. She told us to just sit wherever and was irritated at having to deal with us. A simple sign at the register that says "Please Seat Yourself" would remove all the guesswork. The "Fantastic Omelet" was far from fantastic: overcooked, dry, tasteless, never mind the cheese was nonexistent. The hash browns and toast tasted good though. I thought of sending the meal back, but I was reluctant to complain due to the mood of our server. My husband had a breakfast burrito, and even though it was swimming in sauce on a very large plate (which was unappetizing to view), it was very good. The place was clean with very nice artwork on the walls. It was fairly busy when we visited...Sunday, mid morning. The patio was open, but we ate indoors. Maybe they were short staffed (tell me that upfront; I'll understand). Maybe the A/C broke . Maybe the cook just didn't bring his/her mojo to work. Whatever the reason, we won't be back. read more

I would have not given any stars but needed to write this review. Whatever you do, DO NOT COME HERE! Came up for the day to ft collins and Snooze(my favoritist breakfast place) was very busy. Found this place and decided to go in real quick. It's small, which I don't care about, and everything in the place was old and well used, which I also don't care about. I'm not an atmosphere snob as long as the food has great flavor and it's hot and fresh. My husband and I stood just inside the door, and even though everyone who worked there (3 women) saw us no one came over to us for about 5m. I wanted to see how long it would take. The place was packed and had to wait about 10-15m for a counter seat. After we ordered a couple of tables opened up so we moved to that. We waited for about 25m and no food. People that were already there when we got there were just being served, so we asked how much longer cause we were going to leave. 3m she said. 5m later our food came out. I ordered french toast. It had cooked and uncooked egg hanging off the sides. You know that clear stuff thats on top of a sunnyside up egg? Yeah THAT stuff! Yuck! Had them take it off the bill. Server wanted to know if I wanted the kitchen to recook it. Uh, Yeah, sure...NOT. My husband had the corned beef omelet. Said it was barely ok. The server/cashier apologized saying that they got a large crowd in and that there was a 30-40m wait for food. I strongly believe that if you have a business that seats a certain amount of people that means the staff should be able to accommodate them. Do they never get full? Also, don't make excuses. We came in looking for a traditional breakfast that you picture eating with the older breakfast goers. That is exactly what we got! It is smaller so you don't have to deal with the din of chatter in the background and the owner took her time to talk to us with an extremely warm personality. Her and her husband started this cute little breakfast nook after they first came to America. She even went over the top to further smother our leftovers with gravy. I have been going into The Mountain Cafe since mid eighties. I have always loved it! I used to go in and have breakfast on my way to work and would sit at the counter by myself. I have never felt uncomfortable! I still go in from time to time and have a meal. Mo is wonderful to his customers and his employees...he looks after everyone. The food is great, reasonably priced and it's always nice to see Mo when he comes out to visit his clients. Last time I was there Mo's daughter waited on us and she was fantastic! I can't wait to stop in on a Thursday! Keep up the great work, Mo, and thanks for taking such good care of us over the years. I look forward to the next time! read more

We didn't even stay to order. We came in after the Fourth of July parade and our waitress was so rude that we didn't stay. She came to the table, didn't speak, and when we told her what we wanted to drink she made us feel very unwelcome and let us know that our food would take a very long time because they had so many people. Find another breakfast spot if you are visiting Fort Collins. I am a very patient person when it comes to food service, but this place took FOREVER. Also, when I asked the server for an iced coffee, she asked whether I wanted regular coffee or some special kind they carried. When I asked what the special kind was, she pointed to the table tent and said "It's that." The table tent just said "iced coffee." Then she looked at me like I was the incompetent one?! Food, when it finally arrived, was mediocre. I asked for a water after I finished my "that" coffee and they had run out of normal size cups. I was given a glass that was practically shot-sized that had white and green particles floating in the bottom. *gag* To top it off, the credit card machine was acting up and it took forever to pay. A great family owned alternative to the obviously trendy Snooze (which was our first choice not knowing the area). Portions were awesome and the family takes great care of their customers with very attentive service. The patio was very cozy and great for conversation. The best breakfast and lunch spot in Fort Collins! I've been coming here for years, and when family visits they have to visit Mt.Cafe at least once if not twice. Very unique to Ft.Collins. The family who owns it cooks for you, serves your meal, as well as greeting you when you enter and saying goodbye as you leave. Great patio which is dog friendly too. The menu is great but I stick to the Chicken Fried Steak (best I've had anywhere) and best burgers in town. Charming family owned cafe in Old Town Fort Collins. I've been coming here for years with my brother and consistently receive delicious food and personalized service. It's a locally owned, old time cafe that has been around forever. I eat there several times a month and have been in and out of there over a span of 20+ years. It has consistently good food which is beefed up by great reports it gets from the health department. My boyfriend and I dined here while making our first trip to Fort Collins. We rented an Airbnb just down the street on Meldrum and wanted to get a feel for being a local seeing as we are considering relocating here next year. We made the short walk to Mountain Cafe and found us a quiet little spot on the back patio for a late breakfast. Our waitress was Sandy. Sandy was absolutely wonderful! She was extremely helpful but also gave us our space and let us enjoy the empty patio to ourselves. Our breakfast was exactly what we were looking for- perfectly executed comfort food. I had a traditional breakfast of eggs, toast, and perfectly crisp bacon; while my boyfriend got the biscuits and gravy that Sandy had recommended. We enjoyed our meal then made our way out to pay. We realized then that Sandy had been the only waitress tending to the entire restaurant. The inside was pretty full even though we were the only ones on the patio. Despite having her hands full Sandy did not miss a beat and tended to our every need. Wonderful service! Wonderful food!
