Our second time here in the past two years & the sandwiches are mostly good, but not great. Fish & Chips good, fresh, crispy. All fried items are very good. If you order the Patty Melt, be advised its not a patty melt, it's a burger with bacon, no grilled onions. You need to clarify that. We did & they remade the sandwich & it was ok, but not what we would've expected from this place that people rave about. Got an italian sub & it was ok, but not what you'd expect. We ordered take our. Their variety and high reviews drew us in. Our group tried several things including the open face Turkey and toast beef. The portions are good and they include a huge side of mashed potatoes and good gravy. The meatloaf and fish n chips were also really good. The food was ready in a very decent amount of time and was still steaming hot when we got back to eat it. They have a large variety of glass bottle sodas in some unique flavors. Awesome brunch place in Big Bear. They have many, many options whether you want sweet or savory and all at reasonable prices. I ordered the combination of French toast, eggs, and bacon. Every item was delicious. You can always sub things in as well if you have dietary restrictions. My friend subbed in hash browns for his meat. Coffee was good too. Service was fast and incredibly friendly. We started out with 4 people before we realized the rest of our party (8 more people) were joining us too and they were extremely understanding and accommodating. Love this local joint. The staff is always pleasant, always. Ambiance is not what you are here for, decor wise, but it's got it's own vibe and the ambiance, in this case, is the other guests eating in the booths. Every dish we have had is simply stated, and tastes good. The soups could use an overhaul (and I even hesitate to say that in a good review, but I have tried every daily special and they need new recipes.) They are consistent, have great hours and I keep coming back for new things. Love the breakfast plates, I really love the mountain high salad. I also enjoy the sandwiches. Been coming here for over a decade. All around great place. Started eating here as a local, you know which spots are the best. And I still come here every time I'm in big bear. All of the breakfast is perfect. Flavor is there and great proportions and quality!!!. The lunch sandwiches are good too! They are large so you can probably split one order for two. That's what I do. My favorite is the breakfast sandwich it's loaded with ham and cheese and the bread is just the right amount of toasted, I don't split this it's all mine. Growing up all my life in big bear, whenever someone asked for recommendations where to go I always say here! From now I know to tell everyone to avoid eating here. First my wife ordered the chill dog which came with no sides for $9 we got brought out a "mountain dog" which is literally a plain hotdog on a bun with no sides for $5 first picture, then when they brought out the "chill dog" it was a plate full of chili with a soggy gross bun hidden underneath with a cold hotdog (I'm sure it was the same one that we returned. I got the meatball sub which normally is delicious but today tasted freezer burned and the roll wasn't Toasted so I couldn't even eat the sandwich but just the inside because the bun was so soggy. The food here is so yummy. And breakfast all day which is literally clutch when you're craving breakfast at 3 pm on a Thursday. Seating is semi limited but they are pretty fast. Service is amazing I have never had a bad experience and I go at least once a month. Affordable and quick, my friends and I stopped by this little place before heading back home. I ordered the basic eggs, hash, and toast, which were as good as basics could get (adding tapatío makes everything better anyway). My friend ordered a berry waffle-- the fruits looked fresh and the presentation was appealing. And the custom-made omelette was so filling, my friend could barely finish it. 4 stars for food and service. Food were fresh and delicious, pretty plentiful serving for decent price. Service was quick, it was a little wait for our food to come but we were a group of 5 adults so I understand it takes sometimes to get our order ready. After a day of skiing and snow tubing, this place was a stop we made since it's on our way home. First off, let me clarify that Big Bear is a town of mom and pop shops, there's not many chains here. It's a small town so of course the high reviews are from the locals so I get that. There are people from all different places trying this place out so of course they'll have different opinions. We came here and our waitress was really sweet, I liked her a lot. We ordered right away, so I got the philly cheese steak with fries (a whole order of it), my husband got the reuben sandwich and my girls shared a burger that came with fries, a cookie and fruit juice. My philly cheesesteak wasn't bad, but it was a lot so I took the other half home. The fries were good and the reuben sandwich wasn't as bad as my husband was expecting. My daughter got hot chocolate with whipped cream and we all had some and enjoyed it. My husband got the hot apple cider and it was really good. We were looking for a quick place to grab lunch - and were not disappointed! I had an egg salad sandwich and my sister had a club sandwich. Not many places have squaw bread, but Mountain Munchies did! We both enjoyed that. The service was fabulous and quick. And oh so tasty! After this place was recommended to us we have now been several times. I can tell you the food is top notch. Breakfast is amazing with some of the best biscuits and gravy I've ever had. The lunch menu is equally delicious. I've had the Smokey Bear sandwich which melts in your mouth. The burgers are also delicious. The Mountain Munchies Burger is big and delicious. I've been here a couple of times. Their service is good. Also their grilled sandwiches, I got the ruben. Serving sizes are large. That's why I went back a second time. Again grilled sandwiches were good, but their fried food was horrible. French fries seemed like they may have been refried and chicken strips were hard and dry. The chicken and fries was so hot it melted the styrofoam boxes. I likely will not go back unless I'm really craving one of their grilled sandwiches. read more
