    Chile Relleno

I ate here for lunch with 4 friends a couple days ago. I ordered the chile relleno and loved it! The green chile sauce on it was very tasty. I ordered the mild hot spice level, which I felt was more toward hot than mild. It was not too spicy for me though. Everyone in our party was happy with their orders. We wanted to order a cinnamon roll to share, but they were already sold out for the day. We arrived around 1:00 and were the last party they seated. There were several parties that came after us and were turned away.

We happen to run into this spot while searching for places to have brunch. This placed offered a unique dining experience in a converted older home, creating a laid-back and cozy ambiance. The walls adorned with fun quotes add charm to the atmosphere. We really enjoyed looking storing and reading them while we waited. We visited on a Monday around noon and found seating promptly, with the advantage of convenient street parking right in front. I am sure that may not be the norm as their parking seemed to only be street parking. We didn't see a parking lot. The food, while good, didn't leave a lasting impression. I opted for egg whites, hash browns, and gluten-free toast - a plus for those with dietary preferences. However, the absence of non-dairy milk options for coffee was a downside. My son's pancake, though just okay in taste, impressed with its generous size. Hubby really enjoyed his French toast. The highly anticipated cinnamon roll fell short of expectations, resembling more of a cake than the classic Cinnabon style. Service was efficient, and our waitress was pleasant. With a group of seven, the total bill came in just under $175. While the food may not be a standout, the unique setting, prompt service, and reasonable pricing make Mountain Shadows a decent choice for a casual meal in Colorado Springs.

A much needed, hefty meal after finishing the Manitou incline. Although the place looked busy, we were able to snag one of the last open tables. The service was friendly and quick. The interior is cozy and has a quaint, family feel. Philly Cheesesteak. This baby was packed and the bread was fantastic. The meat was flavorful and just what I needed. The assortment of fruit was some of the best I've had at a casual restaurant.

This place was recommended to me and my family as being a great breakfast spot. It was probably a home before, but they turned it into a cute, homey restaurant. With that, space and parking was a bit limited, but if you go early, wait shouldn't be too long. We went on a Sunday morning and had a party of 8. We split our party in half and sat at different tables so we only waited about five minutes. Everyone was nice from the beginning until we left. We ordered the giant cinnamon roll, but they only had the half roll available. It was a better size because we probably wouldn't have finished it had we gotten the larger size. We also tried the corned beef hash omelette which reminded me of my Mom's home cooking. We liked everything. We waited about 45 minutes for our food, but we didn't mind since there was a sign upon entering of new cooks that were being trained. It was worth the wait. If you're craving for a good breakfast, check out this place.

Found this location DDD and it did not disappoint! I heard it gets crowded so we went around 8am on a Friday morning. Lovely mom and pop shop with that homey vibe. It is located in a small neighborhood and looks like at one point it was a home. We were greeted by a friendly face and tons of fun decor on the wall. Got our drinks super quickly and the food came in around 10 minutes. Loved the pancakes and green chili! Best breakfast I have had in a while. The biscuits are quite unique as they are sour dough biscuits. Plenty of options to choose from both breakfast and not - I did miss out on the cinnamon rolls but rest assured I will be back to give it a try. It is a must try if you are looking for that home breakfast feel! I look forward to coming back when I am in the area. Overall, 5/5.

I came back here after coming here several years ago, remembering they had good pancakes. They do indeed still have giant pancakes. I had one with blueberries inside and strawberries and bananas on top. The flavor combination is very good, and the portion is huge. My only issue was that the cake was slightly overdone, so it had a bit of charred flavor. Not a huge deal. My husband had biscuits and gravy and enjoyed them. The service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant overall is cute, having a sort of mountain cabin feel, with a lot of signs on the walls.

This is The First Restaurant that made my breakfast order perfectly! Soft scrambled eggs that weren't slimy, hash brown potatoes that were actually cooked, perfectly toasted sour dough bread with HOMEMADE strawberry jelly, and an ice cold glass of milk! I was impressed! Brandy, the manager, served us, as well as all the other customers. Coffee was hot & refilled without begging; the place is small & inviting. Free street parking; great family atmosphere. We'll go back!

Simply perfect from the service to the food. The cinnamon role was delicious. It was drenched in a maple glaze that should be a food group on its own. It's a definite must have menu item. We sat at the counter, which I highly recommend. The staff was incredibly entertaining. Thank you, Sara, we are making good choices. We promise.

They don't take reservations here! It's first come, first serve only! The restaurant is pretty small but always full. The owner is so sweet, and all the employees are super nice! Great portions, great recommendations, and they make everything just right. Whatever toast you want, they most likely have it! I got a sausage omelette with gravy and green chili on top; delicious and filling! If you're looking for a big breakfast, come here, but expect to wait if you're not alone!

This restaurant might not seem like much, but once you walk inside, you get this feeling that you're going to be eating well. My boss and I came here for lunch before I left Colorado. We had a wait, so we went to get drinks at a nearby bar while a table was made ready. I'm happy with the food here. My boss chose a classic Rueben sandwich. I chose gravy-smothered roast beef on Texas toast. It was some good food. I packaged a third of it to take back for a meal later. Do consider this place if you're in Old Colorado City. I think this place will be great for brunch after a hike in the nearby mountains.

This little home restaurant had quite the surprises! Not only was the environment warm and quaint but the hospitality was too. We ate here with our kids - 10 & 12 - who both enjoyed their combos from the kids' menu. Omelets and eggs-to-order are fine, but the down-home cooking puts on a show with the "feeds 6" cinnamon roll (whole order) and the "Life is Good" pancake - both of which are dee-licious! We parked on the street right in front and must've had perfect timing (1030-11a) because we were seated after a couple minutes and just before a big rush. We would be happy to eat here again!

Got in on a Sunday for brunch at 8:30 with a few minutes wait. Got seated inside and orders were taken in a few minutes. Food came quickly. We got the Green Chili & Cheddar Omelet, Corned Beef Hash Omelet and Cheeseburger (served all day). Food was great, no leftovers. Service was prompt and cordial. Price was surprisingly cheap for a breakfast place in a tourist part of town. Do try this place out when in the Manitou Springs area

    Huevos rancheros

We came this morning before a hike because of the cinnamon rolls and we're seriously underwhelmed by everything. We got here at a good time and sat immediately which was awesome, but went downhill from there. We were able to get one of the cinnamon rolls and it was pretty good, but then we waited an hour for our food to come out. With such a long wait we though we were going to get some amazing meals. Not even close. I had the huevos rancheros, or what they called huevos rancheros. They were terrible and barely passable as huevos rancheros. 2 giant folded up tortillas under eggs and some sort of green Chile sauce. It was not good at all. I managed to eat half of it since we were headed to a hike, but I won't ever go back here. We had a bright spot in our waitress as she did a great job checking in and filling drinks and such, but the slowness of the kitchen and the barely passable food makes this place not worth your time or money. Oh! And if you're a woman, use the bathroom before you go. There's one stall and it's "covered" by a curtain that's so worn you can see through it and it moves with every breath of air, so if anyone else comes in, they'll see your business as the curtain dances around the room. 2 stars instead of 1 because the server was great and one of the 3 of us liked their food (biscuits and gravy).

    Is this restaurant dog friendly?

I'm not sure. They do have a small outdoor space.

Can anyone tell me if they have a kids menu?

They do have a kids menu, and I believe all kids meals are $5. I don't see it online, but I know they have Mickey Mouse pancakes and other breakfast food for the little ones. Hope this helps!

The brisket came out tender with a perfect bark, and the pulled pork melted like it had something to prove. The burnt ends were the real show-off, though--crispy, smoky little bites of joy. Even the sides had personality, especially the spicy slaw that snuck up on me. Service was friendly and easygoing, like everyone there was happy just to be surrounded by barbecue and good vibes. Parking was a little tight, and there was a short wait, but between the music and the beer list, I didn't mind a bit. It wasn't flawless, but it was flavorful, fun, and full of character--just the kind of place that makes you want to kick back, loosen your belt, and stay a while. Solid four stars and a full stomach to prove it.

3 stars. Stopped in…read morearound 6:00 on a Tuesday evening. We were really craving breakfast food and drinks, and this place met all the criteria. The restaurant itself is in an older building, but there's a ton of seating up front and even more in the back -- it's pretty large once you walk through and see how big it is, so getting a table shouldn't be an issue. There's also reserved parking behind the building, so if you don't see anything on the street, head around back. Service was fast and friendly, and our waiter did a great job. French toast -- my wife's pick. She said it was solid -- probably not the best she's ever had, but good. Pancakes -- came out hot, fluffy, fresh, and very large. Probably eight or nine inches in diameter. Two eggs over hash (+ country gravy) -- super good. I'd recommend adding the gravy to your hash, or getting it on the side so you can add a little at a time -- it's pretty heavy and dense, and there was enough of it that I had to sift through to get to my hash and eggs. Heads up: I underestimated how large their plates are. Once all the food came out, it was clear we weren't finishing it. Coffee drinks -- the biggest letdown of the evening. My wife got her regular cappuccino and couldn't even finish it. I ordered an iced coffee drink with whiskey and Kahlúa in it, and it just wasn't good -- I don't know what the balance was supposed to be, but I'd 100% not order it again. They have a lot of alcoholic coffee drinks on the menu and I sifted through them thinking this one looked like the best of the bunch. Would not recommend it. The other thing was karaoke night. I enjoy karaoke, but I wasn't expecting it -- it wasn't going when we sat down and started up about thirty minutes later, and we were fairly close to the singers. It was loud, and karaoke talent is always hit or miss. This was mostly a miss. Not what we were in the mood for at that moment. Pro tip: Come for the breakfast, skip the coffee drinks -- and know that a weeknight evening might land you in the middle of karaoke. In general, this is a great place to go for breakfast, and I'd highly recommend it for that. I'd return if I wanted a nice breakfast meal, morning or evening.
